Bauer Zaps Our Power
Look, Trevor Bauer is one of the best pitchers in baseball. No shame in losing to him. It’s too bad we wasted such a great pitching performance by our staff.
I think Bauer is great for the rivalry. I don’t hate him at all, he’s extremely smart and he loves baseball. That sword thing he did after striking out (?) on the check swing was awesome as was walking off the mound acknowledging the boos. He’s clearly quite the Showman. But I get why he’s not some people’s cup of tea, especially being a Dodger now.
Giants are swimming in the deep end now. It gets no easier facing Buehler today and with a 4:15pm start I’m thinking the ball could be hard too see the first few innings (though I honestly can’t remember what that time of day looks like in the Spring at Oracle Park).
We were never going to get to just keep facing shitty teams. If they want to stay at the top or near it they have to compete with LA and SD and win games.
Well said, Bauer is great for rivalry. Let’s just hope Giants hitters can make it one. As Mac said end of thread, too many Casalis were at bat last night.
The guy’s a jerk. He’s a talented jerk, but a jerk nonetheless.
Agreed. His antics coming out of the game shows he’s a potential head case and a piece on Real Sports last year on him left me with no surprise .
There are many talented athletes who aren’t jerks. People don’t have to be jerks. It’s a choice they’re making.
True Zumiee, but always remember the wisdom of the great philosopher, Beaver Cleaver:
“Sometimes you don’t realize you’re being a jerk, till after you were being a jerk”
Yeah….but he knows.
At least Belt healthy enough to get some swings in, good sign.
However, CF remains an issue. Tauchman has been regular part of lineup (playing some LF too) since he got here. First game, at Rox 3-4 April 28. Couple days later homers and drives in 4 vs. Pads. He now sits on 8 rbis 3 weeks later and is in 4-33 slump, kind we used to bemoan of Blanco or Nate the Less than Great. Slash line for SF looks like this:
.194/.310/.319. 5 XBHs in 72 ABs, with 24 Ks. These are like Dubon numbers, and he’s 30 yrs old with 0 options.
Slater isn’t doing much better but at least has 4 bombs. Honest, I’m surprised GD hasn’t gotten more run since Tauchman has basically sent himself from leadoff into 8 hole.
Follow.him on twitter you would have a better idea of what he’s all about. He’s extremely smart. Comes across like a jerk sometimes but he calls people out for real shit. I like him
Bauer’s Lasorda gag was pathetic. Seems to be a me-first kind of guy. Wish I had an orange to fire at him. Frankly the game was pretty sad. Even if we won. Of the scattered crowd there were 2 sections of vaccinated areas where there were actual crowds. Bleachers and the RF triangle. Of the 8,000 folks, prolly close to 2,000 were Dodger fans.
Having nothing to cheer about made it worse, and Christ, $16.00 beer is just terrible. Concessions were fine as they had walk-up service now, but the hope is they let more people in.
On bright side, story on mlb.com on Ramos night, 3-4 with bomb and 4 rbis as he breaks out of slump. now hitting .304 with OPS high .900s, in pitchers AA league. Was DH as someone else played CF but he’s batted first all year long so far.
Put me in the hate Bauer camp. Once he started that one-eye shit that was it for me. It’s rubber hit the road time. If we can’t at least split the dodgers series this year we really don’t deserve to be in the equation.
We still don’t have a starting pitcher listed for tonight.
WTF???
Johnny All-staff tonight!
I’m not convinced Bauer is so super smart. He has behavior that people have tolerated because he’s really good at pitching a baseball. He’s a cocky schmuck whose baseball skills will decline someday for the first time in his life, and he’ll get some humility served to him.
he graduated high school (early) with a 4.8 GPA. He studied mechanical engineering at UCLA. And you don’t think he’s super smart.
I was glad when Bauer figured he had strike 3 on Longo( which he should of had) and starts walking off the mound as the ump is looking at him, where the fuck are you going?Have a slice of humble pie butthead..
That was actually pretty funny. Longo and the whole crowd thought he was out as well. The delayed calls by the ump were infuriating.
Kareem is super smart, and an all-time great athlete, and someone who has always been an example of how to act with dignity and respect. I prefer those types of athletes.
Hard to be excited about the outfield, one of the worst in baseball, averages, power, ops, below average fielders, arms. They need a shot in the arm and Ramos could be that guy it’s time to let him play..
San jose Giants got hammered 10-0. Luciano 0-4 BA .224. 1b Abdiel Layer got 3 of their 4 hits BA .370 OPS 1.200.
Richmond SP Tristan Beck from Stanford went 5 gave up 5 hits 4 runs ERA now 5.89
Thairo 3-5 scored 2 drove in 2 OPS 1.070.
Wade Jr. homered 2-5 drove in 4 OPS .900
Slusser says only other Giants pitcher on 40 man is Conor Menez at Sac, with ERA over 5.00 Moving up either Kazmir or Beede once he comes off 60 man IL will require roster move.
Stix get straightened out on site yet? Remind him he can find these boxscores at MCC site or milb.com
Flavius in the 9th at Belmont?
I didn’t expect Bauer to be so entertaining. He’ll definitely boost the rivalry, be more fun to “hate” than any other bum right now. Jon Miller’s into it. When Bauer grounded out to RF last night, he really enjoyed making the call. And I do think those unhittable mid-90s heaters are suspect. He must be cheating. lol.
I heard from Stix for a while after he got back to the twin cities, but nothing recently. Maybe he packed back up to the north country.
“Expected Line-up” on Roto Wire has Kazmir as the SP and the Sock Man once again starting over the Grave Duggar. I don’t fuckin’ get that…
Well — MAY-be.
I’m adding Bauer to my list of most despicable Dodgers. That is noteworthy as I’ve never seen him before last night. It usually takes some time to brew up a deep seated loathing of one.
With his dumb ass Sword imitation( which Krukow called weak) but not nearly as harsh as the social media was ripping Bauer calling him Sir Lance-a lot and a Massive Tool..
Mr. Genius went 0-2 in the 2016 World Series, costing Cleveland the championship, because he almost cut off one of his fingers working his mechanical brilliance before the start of the Series.
George Washington Carver invented hundreds of uses for peanuts and soybeans, feeding billions of people over the years. And he was humble about it, and didn’t like to draw attention to himself. Bauer should read about Carver. He could learn something.
again, if you think guys who graduate HS early with 4.8 GPA and go on to study mechanical engineering at UCLA aren’t *super smart* I’d like to see where you actually draw that line.
We’ve all met Sheldon Cooper types, who have an area of technical brilliance, but can’t even read basic social cues. Bauer is probably one of those. That’s fine. A little grace and humility would go a long way, though. Obviously he can behave how he wants to, he’s in the prime of his baseball career, and that’s how our celebrity culture works.
Gandhi’s good, too. Game on Fox today; time to pull the KNBR boom box out of the cupboard for some commentary to go along with the video, delay be damned.
Good zinger from you, and to be expected.
Bauer’s career numbers so far ain’t that great. 80-66, 3.80.
He does have a pitch that moves to the right like a really good screwball. He did figure out a really hard-to-hit pitch.
Is that the pinky he almost cut off? Or was that his ring finger? I think it required 10 stitches. That’s a lot of stitches for a finger. And then the stitches immediately broke when he tried to pitch. Bummer.
His record is 1-4 in the playoffs, with no championship. So basically, he’s done nothing yet.
he’s evolved. Who gives a shit about career stats? The goal of every player is to get better as they get older. He’s also played on some shitty teams. It’s weird you don’t think he isn’t one of the best pitchers in either league or that he’s not extremely bright. Very weird.
Weirder than you defending his behavior? I guess we just disagree, as the song goes.
“So let’s leave it alone ’cause we can’t see eye to eye
There ain’t no good guy, there ain’t no bad guy
There’s only you and me and we just disagree
Ooh ooh ooh, oh oh oh”
I thought you would’ve gone with this, Zum:
Think of what you’re saying
You can get it wrong and still you think that it’s alright
Think of what I’m saying
We can work it out and get it straight, or say good night
We can work it out
We can work it out
Not sure what being extremely bright has to do with how good a baseball player you are, or how annoying one can be while playing it. Through a coaching friend, used to play pick up b-ball with Stanford types that were both.
Some of the best ballplayers ever have come from coal miner families, third world countries with very limited educational opportunities, and rural poverty of South and Midwest. Baseball players often have interesting backgrounds.
it doesn’t have anything to do with it necessarily, other than you are probably more likely to be open to learning the science of the game. I watched him pitch in college, I have followed his entire career and I watch all the videos he puts out on twitter. I happen to like listening to smart people discuss their thoughts. I keep bringing it up because Zumiee, for some reason, doesn’t think he’s smart. And that, frankly, is dumb
I said he was smart, in a Sheldon Cooper kind of way. I’m sure when Bauer was gesturing to the crowd last night it was with all the disdain Sheldon would have felt for people who he believed are clearly his lessers.
And, of course, being good on Twitter is just…..indescribably essential.
It’s not being “good on twitter.” You don’t even use twitter do you? So basically you don’t know what the fuck he’s even saying, right? Nice to see you commenting on something you don’t know anything about
whoa–Kazmir IS going to start today. Giants sent down Selman and DFA’d newly acquired Braden bishop to get Kaz onto 40 man. just saw this headline over at MLBTR.
this is bidness, but kinda ruins feel good story that got some twitter run about brothers Bishop reuniting in same org. Turns out older bro by 5 years Braden has a young child, and the family lives in nearby (to Sac) Lincoln, so he’d be able to enjoy both worlds without major commute. Hunter is on High A Eugene team.
Giants can still hang onto him should be get through waivers; profile seems to be classic good field/no hit OF.
Not digging this move with Kazmir, he hasn’t pitched in the show for over 5 years(2016) seems more like a PR move for years tendered then what quality he has left in the tank.Like Hans Solo says:”I got a bad feeling about this.”
Wow just amazing at 50 years old Riverboat Gambler Phil Mickelson is blowing away the field in the PGA Championship -10 up by 5 strokes!! Shock the World Phil..
Now if sanctimony gonna moan, I’d say this riles me. There may be better articles out there on it, but this will do. LaRussa, be it remembered, is the same stand-up guy who let his pioneering 1989 Oakland team jab each other in the a’s right under his nose.
https://www.si.com/mlb/2021/05/19/tony-la-russa-teaches-unwritten-rules-yermin-mercedes-the-opener
I think all the starting pitchers were butt slammin also. They got away with it clean as a whistle. Just more reason to hate some ex Dodger pitchers like Stewart and Welch.
LaRussa has been a jerk in the sport for a long time, often flat-out ordering pitchers to hit certain batters. His type of managing is over. The players of today don’t want it.
Oh, my. Sanctimon’ be riled today. (I don’t know what that means; sorry to have triggered you; and various other passive-aggressive pieties I never bothered to learn. Lighten up. That LaRussa story is actually pretty complex and enlightening — with cameos by both Alex Wood and Trevor Bauer.)
I’m sure everyone already knows- today’s game is on local Fox stations.
Does Kotter think the Grave Duggar needs load management?
1. Mike Yastrzemski (L) RF
2. Buster Posey (R) C
3. Brandon Crawford (L) SS
4. Brandon Belt (L) 1B
5. Evan Longoria (R) 3B
6. Alex Dickerson (L) LF
7. Mauricio Dubon (R) 2B
8. Mike Tauchman (L) CF
9. Scott Kazmir (L) P
Bullpening this game seems like a suboptimal approach
Seems like a fucking loss. Webb going down just as he was figuring it out sucks.
Minus Seager and Bellinger, LHP vs. LA not near as important, or optimal. Though wood certainly did well enough last night.
I’ve never seen Bauer before highlights from last night.
I’ve got no problem with his “antics”, or at least the ones I saw.
Baseball is entertainment, it needs some hot sauce on what is turned into a bland game.
The unwritten rules of the past are dumb, all this “showing up” stuff. If you don’t get jazzed about yanking a home run or striking out a guy in a key situation, then there’s something wrong — and if you show that emotion without directing it specifically at the guy you beat, I’m all for it. Hell, Romo used to do some antics on key strikeouts, I was totally fine with that. A little juice like makes the game more interesting. Nobody gives a damn anymore about all the showboating in NFL. I don’t really care about it either, other than the guys that make a first down catch of 6 yards on a Z out and celebrate like they just won the Super Bowl. That’s weak…
Agreed.
I’ll contrast Bauer with the other Dodger pitcher we love to hate — Kershaw, except the dislike is borne mostly out of respect over how damn good he’s been now for over a decade and that by all accounts he’s a classy guy who wouldn’t think of pulling the crap a douchebag like Bauer did last night, and god knows Kershaw has had plenty of chances to do just that vs. the Giants.
If Kershaw celebrated every time he whiffed Belt he’d have probably pulled something by now.
Haha.
Tauchman should be on the bench. He can’t hit his weight right now and looks completely lost at the plate. With as hot as Duggar has been, it makes no sense not to start him. Tauchman has been awful.
Grave Duggar should be starting every game but I do still like me some Sock Man. He’s a gamer. Forget batting averages they don’t matter anymore apparently
I don’t dislike him, he’s just stinking it up right now. Duggar should be in there.
getting on base certainly does. The guy is on 4-33 slump right now.
Dammit, we got Red Sox-Phillies here in the east.
The game needs as many personalities as it can get. Frankly, it’s gotten to be pretty dull since the days when I was a kid, so I’ve no issue with Bauer. I just don’t like the Giants losing to him or any other Dog-ear.
Bauer’s evolved into what? A grandstanding prima donna assclown? Beyond that he’s a dodger. Fuck him and the rest of them.
There’s nothing wrong with being animated and players having fun. but Bauer trying to insert himself into the storied rivalry is such a fucking obvious ploy. He thinks he’s above all the rest and can pitch with his eye closed?
I think that splashed down in the Atlantic…
Here’s one for Zoom :
What’s that Unca?
https://pbs.twimg.com/media/E19szWdVcAYagr6?format=jpg&name=small
How did that turn into a double? Whoa nice grab by Yaz.
Kazmir was fine.
GD double switched in…
Shadows are awful. Stupid time to play.
So true…
Yeah nothing wrong with Kazmir’s outing it’s just Groundhog Day again with the Giants offense.
I find it funny that Kazmir is getting paid 8 million dollars ( deferred deal signed by the Dodgers in 2016 3/48mil deal that runs out this year. So he’s getting paid to pitch against his former team and chump change from the Giants..
Tropeano doing his best to fit right in.
Does every fuckin announcer have to day “center cut” for a FB down the middle?
Tropeano might be better served pitching in Tropicana park in Florida..
WTF is Ruf looking at?
Wasn’t sure if he was pinch-hitting or pinch-looking.
Grave Flubber…
Yep that doesn’t help his cause, but then again this outfield basically sucks anyway!
Free Ramos!!
⚰️🤣⚰️🤣⚰️🤣
Only time I want to hear center cut is my choice of steaks 🥩
Porterhouse,Filet Mignon, not some dumbass baseball phrase..
Dodger broadcasters did the Fox game. That’s bogus.
Well, that sucked.
Giants getting a wakeup call playing a real team …
Well if you want some extended baseball the Sacramento River Cats are playing the Reno Aces on KBCW.
Yamaguchi on the bump going to the bottom of the first no score..
I missed the game because I was doing something I haven’t done in over a year; I went to a concert. It was a local outdoor event. Well, the group was performing on a porch and we all sat in the front yard, but it was a concert! Outdoors, old folks like me, people I know, everyone vaccinated. A nice comfortable event. The performers were playing older singer/songwriter songs, great stuff. Neil Young, Grateful Dead, Beatles, John Prine, etc. They did a nice job on guitars and the vocals. A small well-mixed sound system was used. Very nice. So cool to hear live music again.
“Lighten up. That LaRussa story is actually pretty complex and enlightening”
Dude, I read the entire article. Good article; thanks. But I’m not going to write a homework essay. I only gave a reaction about LaRussa, admittedly.
“Gee, Wally, when you’re busy moralizing sometimes you can’t see your own obliquities.”
“Yeah, Beav. I know. Hey, let’s check out that concert down the street. Maybe we’ll lighten up.”
Good zinger. You did not disappoint. You’re on a roll today.
I was basically agreeing with you, criticizing both of us, lightly. I had a good, sociable day, too. Glad you did. Except for the drought, which is nothing to discount, of course, this is an inspirationally good Spring. imho.
Good for you Zumie! Yeah I miss those concert in the parks they have here in San Carlos every Friday night during the summer but of course sadly postponed do this covid shit..
Hanging in the bar down the street is pretty much back to normal.
No masks, no distancing and nobody seems to care.
Then again, this is a crowd that basically packed it in years ago…
Thanks, Kat, for the heads up on the minor league broadcast. It’s showing on a local station. McCarthy goes yard!
That’s a nice AAA ballpark in Sac-town; I’ve been there several times.
I proposed marriage to my wife not too far from there. Across that nearby cool bridge is an area that has the Crocker art museum. I proposed to her in the parking lot of the museum. So romantic. 🙂
None of that silly “get down on one knee” stuff. I have no idea why that became some kind of cultural thing. It’s some kind of fake chivalry thing. It would be interesting to know where that came from.
I proposed to Mrs. snarkk in the Rainbow Room on 68th floor of Rockefeller Center in NYC. I think it no longer exists. Long weekend, we trained on a Friday afternoon up to NYC from DC area. She sprained her ankle getting into a cab at Penn Station at the start of the weekend. The apartment we rented on the Upper West side kinda sucked. We saw a dance show on Sat night, I said OK, let’s have a night cap at the Rainbow Room uptown. She wasn’t too thrilled, ankle hurt, but said OK. I proposed over Kir Royales. I think there was one other couple there at about midnight. The city lights were beautiful, could see the Empire State building. She thought for a few seconds, like “Finally, it’s about time”, and said yes…
Nice! Very cool.
Nothing brings me greater joy than looking at my final divorce papers.
They are my prized possession…
🙂
I’m warming up to the idea of trading Yaz.
He really is a good fit for the win now Yanks who’ve lost CF Hicks for the year…
Teams aren’t trading good prospects anymore, though. The trade market has fallen through the floor.
It sounds like Lasky and Aurelia broadcasting the AAA game, but I’m not sure.
Cool story Zumie..Night at the Museum ( I seem to recall a movie titled that?)
Funny I’ve never been to The Rivercats stadium it looks sharp, but I’ve been to the Reno Aces stadium several times and it’s like a mini Oracle with the brick walls on the outside and a train track yard beyond the LF wall.I would go there with my sister and her husband and there 2 daughters (my nieces) really nice layout downtown and a couple times they had fireworks show after the game and they go all out! Minor league games are a blast especially if u get to see a potential star are 2 on the rise up..
Yeah, minor league ballgames are fun. It’s great to sit close to the action, in seats priced reasonably.
Only wished the Aces were a Giants minor league team then the D-backs.It was hard in the scheduling to be at a Reno game opposing the Giants organization. Did see former Giant Brett Butler managing the Aces team way back that was cool. That pitcher Yamaguchi looks sharp tonight. Did see the 2B Mitchell Tollman ? go dead center for there 1st run, pretty impressive for a small player showing that power..
Yeah, I had no idea who Tollman was. I didn’t remember hearing of him.
In that article Xoot posted, LaRussa really went off on that player way more than other managers would nowadays. It’s hard to believe LaRussa is going to make his old-school style work. The White Sox are pretty loaded with talent now, so they’re going to do pretty well anyway. LaRussa could end up being a hindrance, though.
I had a varsity high school basketball coach that was a Bobby Knight-ish screamer and yeller. It ruined the experience for the players. It just sapped team morale. And he didn’t have close to any bit of Knight’s knowledge of the game.
Did he throw a metal chair across the floor as well?
He did throw a chair in practice one time. I was the culprit. I had missed a layup.
One time in practice, in a rage of anger, he threw the ball hard at me when I wasn’t looking, and it hit me in the side. Coaches get fired for doing that kind of thing nowadays.
I was the second-leading scorer on that team, but that coach was always angry at me because I wasn’t better. He had a fantasy in his head of coaching at the college level someday. I doubt there are many college coaches taken from the high school ranks.
The leading scorer on our team ended up playing pro basketball in Portugal for many years. He had a nice ball career there. It’s been 40 years since I’ve seen him. I heard he got into coaching.
The broadcasters for the AAA game were Johnny Doskow and J.T. Snow. I was way off.
Johnny Doskow? He did a good job.
Sac won on a Reno throwing error.
