There Is Not A New Sheriff In Town
I know their record is still nice to look at but that series felt like we got catapulted back to Square 1. The vast difference between their talent level and production and ours was impossible to ignore. But it was also a weirdly set up series. A bullpen game for Game 2? No Posey or Longo yesterday? It didn’t feel like Kap was putting his best players out there.
Now we get to go back to the safely of playing crapping teams. And that’s fine, W’s are always welcome.
But the Dodgers put us in our place. That was ugly.
Our place could still be a playoff spot! 🙂
you looking forward to us shitting the bed in front of a national audience?
Well, at least it’s only a few short days for a chance at revenge! Until then, enjoy!
Fuck you. You are nowhere to be found leading-up to the series and now, after a sweep, you decide to appear.
Easy, Karen, it’s just sports.
It is just sports. But for a month or so, your team has been in a tailspin and we didn’t hear jack shit from you. Now once you sweep the first series, here you all boastful and shit. Fuck you, Rooster.
Oh, and “Karen” said to tell you she has a boot she needs to bury up your ass.
We all figured that this was the reality from the beginning. We are a better team that how we played this last series. It will be interesting to see how we respond. Hopefully getting thoroughly spanked will wake the team up.
Most sobering thing was that Giants strength so far, starting pitching, was outclassed by LA too.
Nothing a few bowls of Grape Nuts and a little more Grave Duggar won’t cure…
weirdest thing was how Rooster didn’t show up to Gloat after their asterisk World Series last year
True story.
No team should of gloated winning a pandemic World Series last year. It’s such a sham and will never be included (*asterisk) in a normal baseball season of a full season.
I have seen them hit fast balls better than they did. 1 series does not make the Giants a bad team, and other than Sundays game they were in the game, could have one at least one of them
All 3 teams SF,LA,SD have been red hot starting from last week. The best division in baseball,I never like the idea of a bullpen game in a huge early season series, ( though Kazmir more then held his own) it just sent a bad vibe when u don’t have your best arms setup to go.Hopefully just a small hiccup and they get back on track and go down to LA next weekend and turn the tables..
I’m not convinced the person posting as The Rooster right now is the one we know in the past as The Rooster. The tone seems kind of off to me.
yeah, Zum. Sounds like Richard Pryor imitating a white guy to me.
RIP James Harden. Helluva good blues band back in the day with Hollywood Fats on guitar.
Oh shoot–James Harman, right? Loved that guy heard he had cancer. Two Sides to Every Story is great, with “My Little Girl” and “If the Shoe Fits (Wear it)”.
“Shoe Fits” song had one greatest lines ever in chorus:
“They ain’t glass slippers
And Baby you ain’t Snow White”
Oh, shit. Yes, James Harman. I can’t believe my phone inserted that “correction.” And I can believe that I posted before checking. Age, man. Age.
I saw JH and HFs with the Blasters circa 84 at Keystone Berkeley. Those two came out to play with the Blasters for a long semi-set toward the end. That was a show. Had a great date for it, too. Youth, man. Youth.
giants have held their own vs. Pads, and Pads-Dodgers have been riveting series. Just don’t see a Tatis Jr. type for SF capable of rocking Bauer and taking him out the yard. Giants still waiting on most of offense to get rolling.
Casali C ERA/SP whisperer status took major dive yesterday. If he can’t hit any better than what’s been seen so far, idk. Bart btw had groin problem the other day that caused him to come out of game, with Tromp taking his place. Bart is off to great start at plate so far, though PCL definitely hitters league.
Bart didn’t play yesterday so must still be hurt. Cats lost, backup C was Fabian Pena. Thairo Estrada btw made his 7th error of season, which is less than 3 weeks old. hmmnn
Richmond lost thought SP Hjelle had good outing–5 innings 4 hits 1 run 1 BB 8 Ks. Lowered ERA to 3.63
Ramos 0-4 BA .277.
Lost interest early yesterday–how did Dubon look at 3b? He get any action? Can’t remember who it was, but one of announcers said he makes better defensive option than Solano at 3b when Kap rests Longo, with Flores out.
Giants aren’t as good as sweeping the Reds, aren’t as bad as getting swept by the Doghairs…
No, this is the same asshole Zum . . . Read the last time Flavor handed Rooster his ass in a thread and also click on the (Edit) button along side Rooster’s post (within the thread). Same guy, e.g., email is the same and he spells his name the same way (theroooster). L(ost) A(gain) Rooster . . . Go Giants!
I truly don’t give a shit about what any Dodger fan says. I have never been able to take them seriously.
Here Here Winder!
A bunch of Punkass gangbanging choulas from the hood is a Dodgers fan..
If that’s the same Rooster, he sounds more bitter or something. The Rooster I remember would chime in once in a while on the off-topic things, like favorite TV shows. He seemed friendlier in those days. Maybe the 32 years between championships finally really got to him.
Several years ago, the Rooster and I discussed historical fiction a little bit.
I remember literary exchanges with the capon, as TF called him. He’d attended U.C. for Lower Achievers, he said, but decades before Crawford or Bauer. He thought Cormac McCarthy was great literature. That’s not an indefensible take. imho. I like those go-for-broke novelists. Capon’s energy and competitiveness always seemed a bit frat-boyish to me, but nobody’s perfect.
In the link Blade posted from the Flap in 2018, in the comments section someone posted a video clip of Kareem sucker-punching someone after the guy had given Kareem a cheap-shot elbow to the ribs. I had never seen that clip. I wonder what the punishment was for Kareem. In those days, the punishment probably wasn’t much for the players on things like that.
Yeah during the late 70’s and 80’s all the. Fouls would be flagrant. There were even some clothes lining fouls
Kevin McHale clothes-lined Kurt Rambis in the finals, as Rambis was going up for a breakaway layup. Both benches cleared, and it was probably just a 2-shot foul for being fouled in the act of shooting. Scary times in those days.
Go to YouTube and search Bill Lambert fouls and compare them to now.
Yeah, that dude, and that Piston team were about as dirty an NBA team as there ever was.
Regarding BF’s question about how I feel about the Giants making the playoffs if they were only to get humiliated in the playoffs…..I do see that point. I have no memories of the ’89 World Series other than the earthquake. That’s all. I’ve mentally blocked the rest of it out. It was a humiliation. Granted the A’s were cheating with steroids, but that’s another topic.
I will say that I do prefer this season’s team to make the playoffs even if they get crushed mercilessly, if only because when a team clinches a playoff spot they get to have the obligatory champagne celebration, and it would be nice to see the Giants get to do another one of those for the first time in five years.
I would have preferred a Warrior’s 4-1 playoff loss to the Jazz this year, too.
You mean to tell me you don’t remember Bill Bathe’s bomb???
A 5-7 record against SD/LA seems like an accurate reflection of the overall gap between SF and the two best teams in baseball. Just in case that sounds not too bad, 5-7 is a 416 winning percentage, or 67 wins over a season. Still hopeful they’ll be competing for a playoff spot in September. Just keep the season interesting is all I ask.
Hey, as they proved before, if you can get in anything can happen. To not want to get in for fear of being humiliated is pussification of the highest order.
If they can keep beating the shitty teams, they stand a tinker’s chance to get in. Getting in with this team would be utter insanity though. We’re barely 2 months in and 3/4 of the team has hit the IR. IL. DL. Whatev.
Yeah but that goes both for LA&SD both hit with major injuries are covid issues ( mostly SD) and yet both have continued to win without they’re star players . It’s called DEPTH as backups have performed well. The Giants are not nearly as deep as both them and it’s starting to show.To me they need some rejuvenation in this team, starting with Ramos. I’m sick and tired of the Giants always lengthening out players in the minors who could make an impact now.
Yeah, we all saw how well Bart did in his early call-up.
Giants need a core of young players that can produce. Yeah, easier said than done, but that’s part of what this year is about. Belt, Posey, Craw, and Longo are constantly being rested, getting hurt, sorta hurt, whatever. I want to see some young position players up here later in the Summer for some real action under fire. This team looks like it can be competitive and maybe near .500 all season due to starters, but that might go away with injuries to one or two of those arms. The Pen is a total crapshoot. If Ramos doesn’t come up in the Summer, it’s like the Dubs season with Wiseman — a waste…
I have been saying that same thing myself. I know so far all the bore core have won us some games, with their bats and their gloves. Quite a few games. Personally I would hate to see Posey go at this point. But I would also like to see Bart get sent back up. I think the next month will be telling in how the organization will move forward. It is still the same problem of owing so much money on contracts, but there are a handful of players that just might benefit the club by being up here. I think it’s worth the gamble just to see how they handle the pressure.
IF Bart keeps hitting at AAA, he has to get better defensively too, with more reps. I’d then like to see him up after the AS break, maybe by mid August. I don’t see the purpose of keeping Casali around for a season where the team at best might be a WC entry, without developing Bart with significant exposure to Posey…
Great point. No guarantees that Buster’s a Giant next year.
No way at $22M.
Right now I’d guess they exercise the 3M buyout and offer him a year at about $12M or so…
his father was a sumo wrestler who fought for the Tokitsukaze stable
idk, you wonder if this will turn into 2019all over again or not for Z. If BC are holding their own and rotation is OK, and they are in hunt for WC, would Z bail on vets and start trading away Yaz etc.?
Other than Bart (for Casali) and Ramos (for any of current Giants OFs), tough to see who they would bring up barring season ending injury to BC. Dubon backs up Solano, who could certainly be let go for younger player. Thairo Estrada is 25 and lighting up AAA, hitting .355 with OPS over 1.000, and has 4 bombs in less than 20 games.
But rest of prospects are in either High A or Low A, and only couple will Wilson and Luis Matos, really doing anything. Luciano is hitting about .250 for San Jose–he’s a ways away from taking over for Crawford.
Give me some odds and I’ll put money on Tromp being up before Joey.
It’s less than 50 games, but only 2 other teams behind Giants for WC are even at .500 right now. Even after weekend they are still 9 games over .500.
Chuck– I didn’t see anyone say they didn’t want to get into the post season. You’re right, anything can happen. But this weekend was a serious reality check. I don’t see how we compete vs LA after what I saw in our own home park against them. Also, Giants fans need to stop selling their tickets to Dodger fans. That shit is weak.
Ask Mac about football Giant fans selling their tix to Cowboy fans.
In lean years it’s epidemic…
better than Pandemic. Or, the dreaded Stix touted….PLANdemic. LOL. That one always had me LOLing
I was psyched when the Knicks drafted this guy…
i have never really had a problem with the Roooster. That one day I had kinda had it with him but otherwise, as far as Dodger fans go, he’s not bad. Though last year most certainly comes with an asterisk and their last legitimate championship was 1988 when I was still in college I hope he celebrated that win. It had to have been better than all those post season losses. Those had really started to pile up.
As James said earlier, Sf is 5-7 vs. SD and LA. Also 6-3 vs. Rox for 11-10 vs. NL West.
After Wed., they have just as many games with AZ and Rox as they do with Pads and Dogs. Stay .500 overall with those matchups, good things could happen.
Back in town from Chicago for my son’s college graduation. Good times. Never a better time to miss SF 3 games right!
Last thought on Dubs..
We used to bemoan the lack of hard hitting journalism from the SF beat writers. Did any of these guys lay our playoff exit on Curry and Green?
An astounding non HOF level from those too re the turnovers in the Laker game. A few soft and misdirected stupid passes from the 7th seed. You would think they would have been tighter with the ball vs Memphis and it got WORSE. Combined 25 turnovers from Steph and Green combined in the 2 games. Horrible. In the Laker game more turnovers than assists as a team with our 2 best leading the way..
I now we were not a threat to win title anyway but playoffs are playoffs…
congrats to your son. Where was he going? And what’s his plan now? I would hate to be a young person today….
No Sportsdude, they didn’t. Local beat writers for GS are awful apologists, refuse to criticize vets and didn’t have much to say about what you mentioned, nor how flat GS came out (especially defensively) vs. Memphis in first half, or second half vs. LA.
Yes they went from talking about what playoff team Utah or Phoenix to match up best with, to dropping out of discussion altogether.
Dubs wouldn’t even have been in that position without Steph.
He had an MVP level season. With him out, they’d have won maybe 25 games.
Criticizing Steph for turnovers is fine, but it’s fleeting in the scheme of things.
Losing the other night started the Dubs’ golf course visits earlier by about a week, and gave them a lottery shot, albeit small…
again, I totally agree with you. Steph was magnificent this season I wouldn’t spend a second complaining about turnovers or the fact that he couldn’t get the W in the Laker or Memphis game. Goddamn, you can’t win a game by yourself.
Without Steph and Dray this is a 12 win team. Yeah, they made some dumb turnovers, and it is infuriating. But what happened to this team is a lack of presence in the middle. Poole came around nicely, and Wiggins, despite his disappearing act, is a good 3rd option scorer. JTA is a true find, but again it is about interior defense and rebounding. Fucking Marc Gasol ate our lunch. Ibaka killed us. Any big slow white guy gets 20 points and 20 boards a game. We have ZERO inside presence. Much like the Don Nelson years, but they didn’t defend near as well.
And Wiseman isn’t the answer at all. Looney is terrible blocking out and getting position on the boards. Dray is good but not big enough. They routinely get eaten alive on the boards. Over and over and over. I think they cant afford to wait for Wiseman to get a clue. He’s out all next preseason, and he’s not a passing big man anyway. He’s not a very good fit. They have Wiseman and a couple 1st round picks they need to turn into someone that can attack the boards and score occasionally.
I might’ve just sent you an e-mail, Chuck…
Dubs got WAY better after Wiseman went down. But he’s nobody I’m giving up on. He needs coaching and playing and he can get that this Summer
one of Chron guys suggested they have to dump Wiseman and that take got shot down about 10-1 by bloggers, and deservedly so. The idea they have “championship DNA” and can get back to one with Curry Green Thompson is delusional. I’ve seen suggestions by beat writers they need to dump guys including Wiggins and picks for an “impact” player so they can win right now yada yada. It’s nonsense–you aren’t getting Iguodala and 2015-17-18 teams back. It’s a different era and game is played differently, with more shooters and big men coming in every season.
Get over it and build off what you have and upcoming draft.
And yes one guy certainly can win game by himself–I’ve seen it over and over where one guy takes over and can’t be stopped. Trae Young won in MSG by singlehandedly dominating late game. Curry carried them through 15-5 end of season run. but he was also guy on the floor for 40 minutes when they lost those last two games. Good players make mistakes and bad decisions, and don’t deserve a pass especially when team loses.
I was at that game.
Warriors made their run after Wiseman went down. They got BETTER. When are you going to admit that?
Because Curry went off during the last 20 games like he had never ever done in his entire career. why don’t you realize this? He uplifted the entire team when they only were running 8 guys out there. He carried everyone along with him.
My soon went to Elmhurst university. Has a job already. Selling his car and living close to wrigley.
Re steph Don’t take the critique that way. I love Steph. Always will. Yes they only had a shot because of him. That is missing the point. They deserved at least some discussion re the turnovers.
If Buster or Timmy had us on the doorstep of the playoffs in 2010 but in addition to 3 rbi’s buster had 2 or 3 critical errors or timmy back to back wild pitches late in the game that led to the runs that beat us none of you would have mentioned it? Come on.
no. i don’t get caught up in moments or games. Steph and Draymond have already proven themselves. They were great this year. That was enough for me to appeciate.
Exactly Sportsdude. If team loses everyone could have done more or made fewer mistakes, which is what you rely on better players to do. That’s why you give them ball in first place–they are supposed to be smarter make better decisions and more good plays than the other team. Letting Memphis get better of them not a good look.
The Mets injury situation is almost laughable.
And Lindor remains lost…
the Lindor thing is bizarre. What happened? The Mets are just destined to suck
Hey, the Giants gained a half-game on the Padres without even playing.
Just got the book, “The Bona Fide Legend of Cool Papa Bell” by Lonnie Wheeler. Looking forward to reading this one. Cool Papa is a player I wished I could have seen play, even just some footage.
Yeah I remember watching that Knicks/Pacers game and that was the worst choke job in NBA history! Miller scoring 8 pts in 9 seconds with the help of Anthony Mason&John Starks
Matter of fact trash talking smack specialist Reggie Miller even flat out said it after the game:Starks choked 2 FT and we won! Brutal in your face analysis ☠️
Wiseman does not fit their system at all. He’s not a savvy passer who can generate offense on his own.
