A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Arizona Bound

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on May 25, 2021

Well, my list of SF Giants pitchers who are eligible to start the all star game has shrunk from 3 to 2. GasMan going today and I expect another dominant performance. The question is, what will happen to our bats? Was Farhan right in stiffing Solano out of $500K? Is his roster spot at risk if he doesn’t start hitting? He’s certainly not out there for his glove.

The aged POTD is speaking volumes today……

OK. Hopefully the team has washed-off that series against the bums. The only good thing about that series is that we were in two of the three games, and maybe that game three ass-whoopin’ woke the team up a bit. We shall see with the two against the snakes, and then the four gamer in the latrine later this week.

Arizona is pathetic, but those scuffling teams can be dangerous. Go down there and take care of business (two game sweep), and then hopefully take at least two against the bums in their house.

While the bum series was discouraging, our boys still have the 3rd best record in the NL. And while it is way too early to talk the WC, just for shits and grins, we are 3.5 games up on the cubbies for the second WC spot.

You can forget all about playoffs after the west coast’s superior baseball team demolishes the Gyrats again. The only difference is Dodger fans aren’t pathetic enough to let the best ballpark in baseball get filled up with Giants fans. Thanks for letting us take over your sad little yard while we slapped SF around. Hahahahaha! Go Blue!

    • zumiee said, on May 25, 2021 at 10:35 am

The joke is on you because I think the nickname “Gyrats” for the 2021 Giants is actually pretty cool. The Gyrats! The 2021 Giants just scratch and chew out the victories!

    • chipower9 said, on May 25, 2021 at 11:52 am

It’s a rebuild year for the Giants. This team has far exceeded my expectations. Never thought they would hold first place for as long as they did. So, go fuck yourself, troll.

“Just got the book, “The Bona Fide Legend of Cool Papa Bell” by Lonnie Wheeler. Looking forward to reading this one.”

That’s one I’d like to read, too, eventually. I’ve read a few books about the Negro Leagues and each book has been very interesting.

    • Bozo said, on May 25, 2021 at 12:14 pm

Zumiee, have you checked out this Negro League Baseball Museum link on MLB? It has some great stuff, Octavius Catto is one guy that I really want to know more about.
      https://www.mlb.com/history/negro-leagues/

      • willedav said, on May 25, 2021 at 12:27 pm

mm thanks. Let us know if you enjoy the Cool Papa Bell if you get a chance.

      • zumiee said, on May 25, 2021 at 12:33 pm

        Bozo, thanks! Very cool site.
My wife has been to the museum in Kansas City, and bought me a couple of hats there. The Birmingham team; the team Willie Mays was on. Those are my two baseball hats that I wear the most. Flappers have seen me at Giants games wearing one of those hats.

      • zumiee said, on May 25, 2021 at 12:36 pm

In the Flapper Photo Bucket, in the group photo on the sombrero night, I’m wearing one of those hats.

      • Bozo said, on May 25, 2021 at 1:00 pm

On a trip to New Orleans my wife and I stopped at Regions field in Birmingham so I could see the Mays statue. The field is close to the Negro Southern League Museum but we didn’t have time to check that out but I’d love to go back and spend some time there, maybe catch a game. The current Birmingham team is just called the Barons now,

Who says you have to be a starter to start the A/S game?
MLB is so whacked with they’re constant dicking around with the game and ruining it even more.I say just start a reliever, preferably Trevor Rodgers what’s the big deal? A starter only goes one inning anymore, another joke,so start Rodgers and put a bad psych in AL hitters from the start.

  5. unca_chuck said, on May 25, 2021 at 2:08 pm

So bummed that on my work trip to Mobile Alabama in 2019, the one night I had free the Mobile Bay Bears game was rained out. They play at Hank Aaron stadium and were an Angels affiliate back when the southern league was a thing.

  6. unca_chuck said, on May 25, 2021 at 2:10 pm

Shit, just looked them up, and the Bay Bears moved to Madison, AL and are now the Rocket City Trash Pandas.

Pablo’s got a coaching job when he retires.

  7. unca_chuck said, on May 25, 2021 at 2:11 pm

Fucking Trevor Bauer was a Bay Bear among others. Goldie, Scherzer, and our own Jake Peavy to name a few.

  8. xoot said, on May 25, 2021 at 2:33 pm

Good stuff. I think I still have a Crawfords hat I saved from a season coaching my son’s ten-year-old LL team.

  9. djloo27 said, on May 25, 2021 at 3:03 pm

Were white players allowed in the Negro Leagues?

    • zumiee said, on May 25, 2021 at 3:22 pm

Any white player playing for a Negro Leagues team would have been in great danger of being killed by racist whites, so I’m doubting that any whites ever even thought about asking about it.

      • zumiee said, on May 25, 2021 at 3:25 pm

The whites who kept segregation in place did it by being merciless in their violent racism, even if that involved killing the occasional white person.

    • willedav said, on May 25, 2021 at 3:58 pm

Players from those leagues did come to play winter ball in Caribbean and barnstorm. Funny they were so well accepted abroad. Read a book once about Satchel Paige playing in the DR for Trujillo’s fav team.

    • xoot said, on May 25, 2021 at 5:04 pm

You’d think any white player good enough to make it in the Negro Leagues could play in mlb and earn more money under better conditions.

The extent to which mlb raiding its stars (their stars?) led to the demise of the Negro Leagues is a story I still haven’t tracked down. Some baseball scholar-fanatic must’ve considered the dynamic.

My great fear tonight is the return of the do we have an ace debate.

    • Flavor said, on May 25, 2021 at 6:20 pm

you don’t fear the aged POTD?

      • James said, on May 25, 2021 at 6:37 pm

Yaz is still poised to have a pretty good year. He could hang out where he is a good while longer and ride a two week hot streak to a nice mid 800s OPS. Solano has very few PAs … there are a lot of games left.

  14. alleykat69 said, on May 25, 2021 at 5:45 pm

We have an ace,Gausman is going to mow down this crappy D-Back team then do it to LA who he didn’t get to face last time.

    • James said, on May 25, 2021 at 5:59 pm

      Thank you!

  15. djloo27 said, on May 25, 2021 at 5:49 pm

Nice to see the Grave Duggar getting the nod over the Sock Puppet…

    • willedav said, on May 25, 2021 at 6:35 pm

mm still think an OF would be first to go not named Solano for pen help. Best to solidify position if you want to stick around.

  16. alleykat69 said, on May 25, 2021 at 5:49 pm

6 Cy Young pitchers are throwing tonight, you don’t see that every day, if at all..

  17. djloo27 said, on May 25, 2021 at 6:51 pm

Dodger fans posting here would be a good thing if they’d offer up some useful insight once in a while.
The Roooster is capable of that but can’t sustain it and reverts to the character that Twin used to berate…

  18. djloo27 said, on May 25, 2021 at 6:56 pm

    Crawford looks so locked in…

  19. alleykat69 said, on May 25, 2021 at 6:58 pm

That’s how you pounce on a starting pitcher.Baseloaded clear the them all double by Crawford!

  20. willedav said, on May 25, 2021 at 7:01 pm

Love Gausman glove, what a beauty.

  21. unca_chuck said, on May 25, 2021 at 7:20 pm

Crawford’s foul of the pitch before the double was nearly as impressive.

    • djloo27 said, on May 25, 2021 at 7:26 pm

      You get my e-mail, Chuck?

  22. djloo27 said, on May 25, 2021 at 7:34 pm

Why are K &K defending the RF who looked absolutely blind on that play?

    • alleykat69 said, on May 25, 2021 at 7:45 pm

Absolutely Loo, that was as bad as it gets.Reminds me of Burrell&Morse attempting to play LF..

  30. alleykat69 said, on May 25, 2021 at 8:36 pm

How can you not resign him especially after that photo of him at 5:”Save the Giants from moving!”

  31. djloo27 said, on May 25, 2021 at 8:38 pm

    Duggar now at .292
    He’s not just a nickname anymore…

  32. willedav said, on May 25, 2021 at 8:38 pm

There’s another one. As Krukow said, Tauchman better get rolling. 4 LH OFs, only 3 gonna be in there.

  33. alleykat69 said, on May 25, 2021 at 8:39 pm

GraveDuggar up to .292 compared to Sockless .211

  34. alleykat69 said, on May 25, 2021 at 8:45 pm

GraveDuggar even ripped his booty looking for more playing time as socks is down to .208

  35. xoot said, on May 25, 2021 at 8:48 pm

Talked to Stix for a while tonight. Bummed by the sweep. Encouraged as I told him about the progress of tonight’s game and Gausman’s gritty survival, well, success, really, so far. Etc. He hauled his computer with him back to the north country and intends to figure out soon how to electrify it there and then to log onto WordPress for free. During the day he’s busy mowing, trimming low branches off the blue spruce trees, clearing out rubble and trash, rebuilding. It’s May in the north country.

I think the best I can do right now is a two-mile walk around the fucking golf course and some serious calisthenics tomorrow. Stix is doing fine.

    • djloo27 said, on May 25, 2021 at 9:05 pm

      Great to hear, Xoot.
      Stix is pretty amazing…

  36. xoot said, on May 25, 2021 at 8:57 pm

Buster still has the best turn side and walk away third strike third out profile in mlb.

  37. snarkk said, on May 25, 2021 at 9:31 pm

    This just in.
    Dbacks suck.
Hopefully, Bum is enjoying his big checks every two weeks, and probably a ranch somewhere north of Scottsdale, north of the 101 loop, with some horses and scorpions…

    • zumiee said, on May 25, 2021 at 9:35 pm

Yeah, less than a sweep in this series will be kind of disappointing.

  38. alleykat69 said, on May 25, 2021 at 9:32 pm

I’d give most of the regulars a dayoff tomorrow, the second string can still be the D-backs.But more then anything just a fresher team starting out this 4 gamer( Thursday)against the dog pile..

  39. unca_chuck said, on May 25, 2021 at 9:39 pm

Grandpa with the nice catch and the triple. Belt looking to hit the DL. Again.

  40. zumiee said, on May 25, 2021 at 9:41 pm

Belt was injured and trying to play vs. the Dodgers. That doesn’t really make any sense.

    • Macdog said, on May 25, 2021 at 9:43 pm

Looks like that won’t be an issue this weekend.

    • alleykat69 said, on May 25, 2021 at 9:49 pm

Belt had the 4 games off in Cincinnati, so obviously that didn’t work.Need to put him on the IL this time even if a vet says I’m good, they’re lying 🤥

  41. alleykat69 said, on May 25, 2021 at 9:45 pm

Curt Casali sighting raises his average to .117 with an rbi knock to boot..

  42. zumiee said, on May 25, 2021 at 9:46 pm

Today I heard a really terrible song. BTS singing “Butter,” which apparently is a big hit. It’s so forgettable, you forget it while you’re listening to it.

  43. xoot said, on May 25, 2021 at 9:47 pm

Kruk and Kuip just spent two or three minutes mocking the appearance of the Asian American coach in the Giants dugout. wtf? His beard’s thin? His voice must be falsetto? Those guys are near their expiration date.

  44. zumiee said, on May 25, 2021 at 9:50 pm

I think I kind of just tune K&K out nowadays. I like them, but I don’t listen closely to them anymore.

    • xoot said, on May 25, 2021 at 9:52 pm

      Butter?

  45. unca_chuck said, on May 25, 2021 at 9:50 pm

This team still doesn’t know how to work the IR. Hurt players miss multiple games without getting another player up. Guys come back too early. It’s like this is all so hard to figure out.

    It isn’t.

If you think a player is relatively important, give him the time off. Belt was struggling before he hurt himself in the 1st AB. Ahhh, he’ll work through it. Until he doesn’t. Now? Who knows? Let’s let him sit on the shelf until we figure out what it wrong. Derp.

  46. zumiee said, on May 25, 2021 at 9:51 pm

The Mets have a strong broadcasting crew.

  47. unca_chuck said, on May 25, 2021 at 9:56 pm

For some reason I’ve had a line from a song stuck in my head since 1971.

    Day’s done
    Cousin Jack
Cooking steaks on the grill that I’ll never get back.

Don’t know why. But it just floats by my brain every once in a while.

Didn’t know who sang it or what. But I found out today it was Bobby Russell, Saturday Morning Confusion.
