A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Tough Loss, On To Washington DC

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on June 10, 2021

Yesterday’s game was terrible. This picture is the opposite of that:

I’m gonna need some clarification from WilcoJoe about the 3 gen comment. Dude on the right doesn’t look that old.

Game today in Washington looks like a washout which is probably good for us. Get a day of rest in.

Yep that’s my dad on the right. The camera just happened to catch a good angle….Since he was in town visiting for the first time since Covid, I splurged on some killer seats in the home plate club. All inclusive food, beer and booze. Face value was $400 a piece but I paid $250 a ticket after taxes and fees on Stubhub. We drove up from Waco yesterday morning and made a day of it. The hotel (a must after a day of drinking) is literally a baseball long toss from the ballpark. Really cool little entertainment district between the Rangers new park and Jerry World next door. Almost a Vegas like feel to it.

I had never seen so many Giants fans in Texas and that includes Game 4 of the 2010 WS when they flew in a 767 full of team employees. Lots of great memories of that game when looking out my hotel room at the “old” ballpark across the street. Not sure what they plan on doing with it but the exterior is a beaut compared to the new park which from the outside looks like a giant gas bbq grille.

I wasn’t expecting a win with a bullpen game and a scrubini lineup but seeing back to back jacks from Vosler and Tromp was so enigmatic of this season to date. Unfortunately so was the back end of the bullpen. All in all, a damn fine day for three generations of Giants fans.

Sounds like a kick-ass time, Wilco, and glad you and your son got to get together with you dad. Way to represent deep down in the heart of Texas. Hope all is well for you and yours, and miss seeing you here more frequently.

despite L, lot to build on in first 8 innings of 1 run 2 hit 2 BB 12 K performance in all pen game.
Always amazed to look back at varied means by which 3/5 pens put together by coaching staff/GM.
Not out of question for current version to figure it out…suspect more likely from in house than from outside.

Well, if we remain hot, I see no way the Z cannot be a buyer. This season and record has far exceeded expectations, but if this team makes the playoffs and has any hopes of going deep, they are going to have to have some bullpen help. Not sure that exists internally, but they absolutely have to get more consistency out of the back-end of the pen.

Rainout would provide some much needed rest as Flav alludes, but the flip-side is we would then be playing one of those mickey mouse DHers. I can’t decide which is worse…runner on 2nd to start an extra frame, or the lame-ass seven inning DHers. They both suck royally.

Cool pic, Wilco, what a bummer the Giants couldn’t get the win but sounds like a great time was had by all.

Yesterday June 9 was day Les Paul was born in 1915. Gibson Les Paul was introduced 1952, quite a creation. Remember his recordings with Ms. Mary Ford from 50s. Died at age 94 in 2009.

Cheers to the 3 generations of the Wilcojoe fam at the game. Despite the loss, it sounds like y’all had an awesome day at the yard.

Thinking about all those pitchers we had in camp and here we are still talking about filling the backend of the bullpen.
It’s great to have a utility guy who can play both OF and Inf positions, I just don’t think Dubon is that guy. It isn’t just the errors in the field but the base running gaffs are really wearing thin on me.
I think Wade is a keeper, don’t care if they trade Ruf and/or the Dick.

Great Photo and we need all the young Giant fans we can get. Baseball is so much more alive when you are young.

        Agree with all that!

Wilco – your dad has the hard-ass stare going in this picture. Love it.

Caption for him: “WTF you looking at…you got a problem?!”

Great photo and breakdown of the game experience Wilco!

Looks like our latest candidate for the bullpen has arrived–James Sherfy, late of the D-back and University of Oregon. Not a real big guy, but it sounds like he has a good arm and has had some success at the MLB level–mixed in with some struggles as well–thus his availability on the waiver wire.
Bringing in guys like this are the moves I expect from Z—and I’m totally fine with that. I thought this was going to be the year we bottomed out, so I am ecstatic with Z and company right now.

    • djloo27 said, on June 10, 2021 at 11:11 am

      Sherfy don’t bother me…

If the ball has been “de-juiced” this season, I guess Crawford didn’t get the memo…

      • alleykat69 said, on June 10, 2021 at 12:41 pm

That’s for sure,Crawford is in a league by his own this year with his offense and defense.Giants probably don’t give a shit about juiced balls are not since they never participate in top F/A signings, always a smokescreen just to keep the fan base intrigued…

    Nice report, Wilco !
The Dick is back on the IL as of yesterday. Back issue. This guy is regressing to his mean. Hurt a lot, long slumps. Sounds like Belt. At least Belt is not a defensive liability. Really look forward to the day where there is at least one dependable, stud OFer that solidifies the OF…

    • alleykat69 said, on June 10, 2021 at 12:10 pm

That would be Ramos and with the uncertainty in this outfield it’s time to get him up and see how he can rake!
Dick out,Ruf out, and the biggest loss Yaz and Longoria out, they could use Ramos for a RH power bat there lacking..

Looking at a couple of weather apps, looks like the rain is supposed to come in tonight, so it that holds true, they will probably get the game in…tomorrow’s looks questionable per the forecast.

  16. chipower9 said, on June 10, 2021 at 12:48 pm

Grave Duggar really staking a claim on the CF position.

I won’t lie San (and good to see you here, brother), at the beginning of the year, I did not expect this from him (much like I did not expect our Giants to be in first place at this stage of the season). I really like how GD has made some adjustments. He’s solid.

      • djloo27 said, on June 10, 2021 at 3:59 pm

For a guy that strikes out so much, the Grave Duggar actually has a very good eye.
A lot of times (like Belt) it hurts him.
He takes way too many called strikes on borderline pitches right at the bottom of the zone.
As a lefty with a big upper cut he should be wailing away at these.
It’s usually followed up with inside breaking stuff that ties him up or he lets go for another strike.
This is how he gets in trouble. Maybe he just needs to be a little more aggressive, IDK.
He has surprising power and he’s lost 2 homers in triples alley…

I saw that Pete Alonso take while watching the Mets last night. Seems pretty wacky to me.

These 300+ million contracts are insane though. Thanks to those numbers, we now get commercials between at bats, which drives me nuts. I go to a lot of trouble to rarely watch a commercial, and now they are squeezing the damn things in while a guy makes his way to the freaking batter’s box. Thank you Owners and Players’ Union! I don’t think that helps “grow the game.”

    DH Saturday?

Surprised they waited so long, I took a look at that radar and scrapped this game at 5:30am

      • djloo27 said, on June 10, 2021 at 7:43 pm

In NY, they like to wait until a whole bunch of people pay their non-refundable $40 parking fee before they call the game…

wilcoJoe what the fuck how old is your dad? I have looked at this pic probably 30 times today, no way that dude is over 45, but I think that’s about how old you are so none of this is adding up.Please disclose his actual age so I can sleep tonight.

    • wilcojoe said, on June 10, 2021 at 8:05 pm

He is 68. Pretty good genes on his side of the family. My great grandmother lived to 101 and both my grandparents are still alive in their early 90’s. My dad was a bricklayer and still smokes a pack and a half a day. Other than a little skin cancer scare, he has been pretty healthy.
