A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Disco is Back!

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on June 12, 2021

And it couldn’t have come at a better time. Our momentum had begun to spin sideways and now it’s back up again.

After deGrom left the game I popped off to my A’s fan buddy that Gausman is now the favorite to start the all star game. He replied back “no chance.” I said “none?” He said NONE.

So, I had to make a bet. It was tough to quantify odds seeing as how he was giving this 0% chance of happening. I risked $50 and took 10-1 though that in itself is bullshit after his “no chance” claim.

Obviously I’ll need deGrom to sit out the all star game but I could see that happening even if he’s not critically injured right now. What would be the point in risking him for a meaningless game?

For now I just need GasMan to keep dominating and that starts with the game today….

Chances are they’ll be real cautious with deGrom even if it’s just a minor thing.
The other thing about starting the ASG is when you last pitched, which could eliminate you altogether…

      Shit I forgot about that

      • alleykat69 said, on June 12, 2021 at 9:24 am

And don’t forget that Dodgers Dave Roberts is the manager, he’ll he could stick to the Giants by starting Bauer are Urias..

        Fuck me

    • djloo27 said, on June 12, 2021 at 9:59 am

I think only pitchers who started the Sunday before are eliminated.
Happened to Bum in 2016, I believe.
      Otherwise, they’re good to go.
Roberts seems like a fair guy, far as I can tell…

      At 10 to1 I think it’s a great bet.

I watched Disco’s start a second time and he really was dominant. The Nats looked overmatched most of the night. This guy has some serious stuff. Gausman posted on IG that it looked like he was throwing a Wiffle ball and that’s a perfect description. Filthy, darting slider and his two-seam fastball was running into the hands of righties all night and with overpowering velo.

One hell of a start. Before this year, I had no idea this guy had this kind of talent. Not to mention a great nickname. lulz

  3. Lurker John said, on June 12, 2021 at 8:48 am

Tauchman’s two great catches alone damn near make up for his dearth of offensive production (almost). Most guys don’t make one catch like that in their entire careers, let alone twice in the same season. And both were critical to the Giants winning each of those games.

  4. xoot said, on June 12, 2021 at 9:08 am

That ESPN article on the Giants that Flavor noted yesterday is a pretty good read, especially for it’s discussion of Gausman and Disco, although Belt gets some review, too. The Giants FO and coaching staffers know wtf they’re doing. (Obviously, I guess.)

I noticed something this morning that surprised me. The team’s at 62 games. (Nice milestone — go only .500 from here on and it’d still be 89 wins.) But here’s the thing: Dubious Dubie has appeared in more games (55) than anyone else on the team. Crawford, 54; Slater, 53; Wilmer, 52; Dick, 51; Longo 50. The fluidity of the LUs and defensive arrays has been quietly miraculous.

Yup, Yaz and Baragar both back with the team. Good news. And Menez has been good in his latest stint with the team. Maybe he’s getting it figured out.

    A 9 inning game is 28.6% longer than a 7 inning game.
    A 7 inning game is 22.2% shorter than a 9 inning game.
This is why a lot of people hate numbers.
    They fuck with you…

I agree with you 100 per cent and disagree 50.

  13. snarkk said, on June 12, 2021 at 12:59 pm

I don’t understand why nowadays they are bringing guys directly off the IL (Yaz) into a starting gig. Used to be not that way at all. Particularly if coming back on the road, where you don’t have home ballpark training amenities.
Not taking 2 rehab starts or some such at AA or AAA to see real pitching and game action to get timing back and kinks out seems counter productive to me. Belt came straight back, and had a very good first game ABs, then phtttt pretty much since.
Seems that Covid now should have nothing to do with this approach…

    • djloo27 said, on June 12, 2021 at 1:11 pm

Might depend on how long they been out or just team policy.
I know the Mets are sending injured McNeill & Conforto to Brooklyn affiliate to re-hab.
Those guys have been out awhile…

  14. snarkk said, on June 12, 2021 at 1:14 pm

Giants hitters recently have looked like they got a memo to take time off.
Pitching is good enough to keep winning these games…

  15. alleykat69 said, on June 12, 2021 at 1:16 pm

Most uninspired game they have played all year..

  16. djloo27 said, on June 12, 2021 at 1:16 pm

  17. Bozo said, on June 12, 2021 at 1:42 pm

I haven’t been to the Nats stadium in awhile, every time I’ve been to see the Giants play, we’ve lost. All and all, it’s not a bad yard but going 0-9 (or is that 10?) makes ya think twice about a joint. Gotta say though, that Ben’s Chili Bowl half smoked sausage (half beef and half pork) with chili and onion, is some awesome ballpark food.

    • Flavor said, on June 12, 2021 at 2:02 pm

They handed it right back to us.

  19. snarkk said, on June 12, 2021 at 2:09 pm

I think Yaz has been injured pretty much since the last day of ST with multiple, consecutive issues, and isn’t physically right. The guy is striking out at a scary high rate. Will Giants say that? No.

Meanwhile, beloved catcher Scrubini is due back onto the 27 for game 2 today. Ugh.
All of a sudden he had a disclosed bad wrist, which he supposedly had for a while before they revealed it (as usual, or this was just an excuse to get his .100 BA outta there for a while) and put him on the IL. OK, so now he’s back, I want to see him actually hit a few balls.

If he doesn’t start hitting, I want Tromp as backup until something better comes along, or they decide Bart can handle pitchers — when he’s 29 years old, apparently and no longer raking AAA pitching.
Did anybody see a massive decline in pitching quality with Tromp in there vs. Scrubini ?
    I must have missed that….

    • snarkk said, on June 12, 2021 at 2:23 pm

BTW, here’s Tromp’s performance so far:

      3 games: 1-2
Lost 8-1 to Angels. That was the game Wood lost control and couldn’t find the plate.
      Won 4-3 vs. Cubs
Lost 4-3 vs. Rangers, in that xtra innings game

      9 ABs
      4 hits
      .444 BA
      1 HR
      2 RBIs

      • Flavor said, on June 12, 2021 at 2:38 pm

I listened to Kap”s argument for bringing back Casali and jettisoning tromp and he literally said “he’s our guy”. Absurd.

      • snarkk said, on June 12, 2021 at 2:42 pm

Yep, I think I did hear that or some S like it on the “Kap” pre-game show.
If I’m Tromp, I think I want out and go to another organization.
I really want to know what specifically it is that Scrubini does so well with pitchers that he is allowed to stay the backup C though as a hitter he is statistically near useless…

  20. alleykat69 said, on June 12, 2021 at 2:49 pm

Of course he would, the vet presence always out rules a rook even if it’s obviously wrong with Casali.
This outfield is really getting shaky with the bats.Way unbalanced with all the lefties, then u add the RH bat are lack of with Slater and his 51K’s in 152 AB’s it’s time they need fresh blood with Ramos now!

  21. gianthead said, on June 12, 2021 at 2:51 pm

That was an ugly game to see live….what nade little sense was very few of the Giants took BP and it looked like it during the game. Posey did not hit. Crawford did not and never saw Wade in there and never saw Belt. Even Cueto went into the cage and took a couple swings. I would have expected a split in this double header so let’s make it happen tonight. It was getting very muggy and hot at the game…

      Sorry. The eighth.

      • xoot said, on June 12, 2021 at 7:06 pm

So if kap had made a double switch, putting Posey in to hit and catch with someone else maybe the next pitcher into Casali’s spot Buster would’ve been the runner on 2B? I hate this rule.

    • zumiee said, on June 12, 2021 at 6:38 pm

I think so. But they could pinch run a pitcher for him.

There are a few others in the running for the Giants. What a semi-gift win. That was a comedy of horrible Giants ABs in the top of the eighth to leave it getting only two runs. Sheesh; we’ll take it, though…
