A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Lost In The Wood

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on June 20, 2021

It was just one game so probably shouldn’t make too much of it. But if you asked “Geez what has happened to Alex Wood?” that is a legit question to be asking. He’s now got an untidy 8.50 ERA for the month of June. The most obvious answer is that he’s lost without his precious Spider Tack. But who really knows…..

I’m excited about Daddy Long Legs start today. Finally get a chance to see what he can do without that stupid opener mucking him up.

HAPPY FATHER’S DAY TO MY DAD, WILLIAM MAYONAISE VAUGHAN!

Batters have now mostly stopped swinging at Wood’s breaking stuff that is out of the strike zone. They aren’t being fooled by it anymore. He has to come into the strike zone more now, and he’s getting hammered.

    Mayonnaise?

    • alleykat69 said, on June 20, 2021 at 8:34 am

I’m going with Richard Gere’s nickname “Mayonnaise” his drill sergeant drilled into him in Officer and a Gentleman..
      Happy Fathers Day Flapper’s!!!

Votto got ejected in the first inning yesterday. Dude just doesn’t get it, somehow. People have criticized him sometimes over the years for not being as team-oriented as he should be, that his personal stats were more important to him.

    • Flavor said, on June 20, 2021 at 9:11 am

Did you see what he did for the little girl who was crushed she didn’t get to see him play?

      • zumiee said, on June 20, 2021 at 9:54 am

        No.

  4. willedav said, on June 20, 2021 at 8:02 am

well, there’s strikes and then there are ones to be crushed. Few of McGe’s 97 fastballs wound up in seats. Happened to Doval, Santos etc.

    • Winder said, on June 20, 2021 at 8:18 am

I didn’t know McGee could throw one 97. i think the highest I saw was 95 and those were rare.

Yesterday’s game the ball had Phillie eyes, nothing you can do about that. That’s why I know there are baseball Gods.

  5. willedav said, on June 20, 2021 at 8:21 am

Odd to me Kap hit for GD, one of hotter hitters right now, for Slater in like 3rd inning. Yet he left equally hot Wade Jr. and also Vosler in. Slater not doing much to secure RH spot in OF mix.
Meanwhile, Vosler a keeper? better player overall than Flores? Can he survive platooney ball when LaStella comes back?

    • Macdog said, on June 20, 2021 at 8:56 am

Especially since Wade is hitless so far vs. lefties (0-12, heard that from the Phillies radio announcer).

      • willedav said, on June 20, 2021 at 9:50 am

and Slater doesn’t hit RHP very well either.

  6. alleykat69 said, on June 20, 2021 at 8:51 am

Not the first time Kap’s done that to GD. Its one thing when he was struggling but it’s different when he’s hitting better, both Slater&GD have high rates so I don’t see an advantage doing that .
Just happen to ketch the only highlight for the Rivercats last night, as Dickerson went oppo LF HR for there only run.Back looked healthy as JT Snow in the booth pointed out, expect him back soon..

That’s his middle name. He’s from Virginia. His dad’s name was Boozy. Lived up to his name too

    • Winder said, on June 20, 2021 at 9:21 am

Great name. I come from a long line of boozers myself.

ah very cool. I had just turned on the game when Reds scored and then Votto AB. Looked like home plate ump said something to him, and then he blew up at him. Padres fan sitting in stands in pin stripe jersey near the end of Reds dugout also got tossed. Argument and ejections lasted forever. Bell appeared to not know he had been tossed too, and that prolonged argument because he was still in dugout and came out and argued some more.

    • snarkk said, on June 20, 2021 at 12:47 pm

Pretty obvious to me Votto broke his wrists. He knew it. Watch him duck his head immediately after the swing, to act nonchalant. That was a bogus brewhaha. So his team loses him for an entire game for that? Bad move by Votto…

  9. zumiee said, on June 20, 2021 at 10:00 am

The Reds ended up losing a close game without Votto, but it was nice that he wrote the message on the ball.

  10. alleykat69 said, on June 20, 2021 at 10:35 am

Wow that’s one sharp turn the clock back Jersey the Chicago Whitesox’s recently wore.
Gothic font lettering spelling out “Southsiders”with dark gray pinstripes and matching pants, outstanding! Sold out right away and I can see why.Not a fan of the team but I would rock that one around places..

multi instrumentalist innovator Eric Dolphy would be 93 today had he survived diabetic coma in Berlin 1964.

      Hilarious!

      • willedav said, on June 20, 2021 at 1:21 pm

? he was only 36 at time, cloudy circumstances. Something like this did happen to guy I used to play softball with. family discovered him dead in their home one morning, about similar age.

      • djloo27 said, on June 20, 2021 at 1:26 pm

Are you really sure he’d have otherwise made it to 93?
        I’m not that positive…

      • willedav said, on June 20, 2021 at 1:27 pm

He collapsed while on tour and was taken to hospital in Germany but instead of getting blood sugar tested medicos treated him for drug overdose and left him. He never recovered, and btw unlike other jazz musicians wasn’t a junkie.

    • alleykat69 said, on June 20, 2021 at 2:06 pm

Is that the coolest shot ever!
Abgail is a rockstar! That’s what baseball should always be about!
I’ve never had an issue with Votto.Shit that was a legit check swing, yeah he might off bitched alittle but I think someone in the dugout bitched more and they just blamed him. Then of course Boone has to object and get rung protecting his player.Standard protocol

  24. snarkk said, on June 20, 2021 at 1:45 pm

Long needs to be taught how to bunt.
He’s up there doing a vertical jab at it.
Chances of getting a bunt down doing that are slim.
Just me or are pitchers absolutely worse at sacrificing and fielding than before?
No wonder they’re agitating for the DH…

  25. James said, on June 20, 2021 at 1:54 pm

Those 2 runs courtesy of that piece of shit ump.

  26. snarkk said, on June 20, 2021 at 1:54 pm

  31. snarkk said, on June 20, 2021 at 2:13 pm

Long has a super duper curve if he gets in a groove with that thing.
Looks like he needs to spot that fastball just a bit better, and get a bit more movement on it.
Changeup looks like it needs work, if that’s what he’s throwing otherwise.

  32. djloo27 said, on June 20, 2021 at 2:13 pm

ZZ Top broken up – Menez to Sacramento…

    • snarkk said, on June 20, 2021 at 2:27 pm

Brebbia was good with the Cards before the TJs.
If he can get back to that, it’s a real plus for the Pen…

  36. Macdog said, on June 20, 2021 at 2:27 pm

      I just got that!

  46. snarkk said, on June 20, 2021 at 3:05 pm

    I’m diggin’ this Long kid.
He’s got a curve as good as Zito, maybe a little sharper.
And, he can control it once he’s in a groove.
Just get some more control and movement on that fastball, and work on the change, or whatever that other pitch is, which is just kind of a “show me” change of pace right now.
This kid might put Webb into the Pen…

    • djloo27 said, on June 20, 2021 at 3:19 pm

Reds fans have had the “Votto wars” over the years like Giants fans have had “Belt wars.” Pretty similar in that both players draw a lot of walks and their fans get frustrated sometimes with them taking pitches in certain situations.
I was just miffed at Votto for getting thrown out in the first inning of a 2-run loss to the Padres.

  55. zumiee said, on June 20, 2021 at 7:39 pm

The D-Backs and Reds didn’t give us any help this weekend. Oh well, the Giants just gotta keep winning. 🙂
