They Caused Me Pain
Even after we took down the 3 beauties I continue to dislike the Angels. Hate is too strong of a word. I did hate the Rally Monkey. I find it hilarious that they are now wasting not one but 2 generational talents on another hum drum season. Every year they stink. I always want to see them lose. I hope we make short work of them.
We miss facing Trout again, because of his calf strain. The same injury that caused Cody Ross to miss two months of the 2011 season. The Ross and Posey injuries, of course, did a lot to mess up the Giants’ chances to repeat in ‘11.
Agree Flav. Hate may be too strong a word for the Halos, but I did hate the fucking rally monkey.
Let’s take two…
I hate the rally monkey too.
Some teams need gimmicks to “Rally” their fans. 😂😂😂
The resurrection of the Grave Duggar is truly amazing.
Probably sits tonight vs. lefty…
fangraphs has following for WAR:
Posey 2.7
Crawford 2/3
Longo and Yaz 1.7
Duggar 1.6
Duggar does rank 2nd on team for wRC+ at 160
Duggar leads team in slugging at .573. Others over .500 include Posey Crawford Longo Belt and Ruf
Duggar also leads team in BABIP at .463, 100 points above anyone else.
Sustainable, any of above? unlikely, but .750 OPS, fewer Ks plus D still would make him valuable. I believe James said this awhile ago.
Depending on what numbers matter, of course.
With Duggar, yeah, the high BABIP is something that will probably come down somewhat at some point this season. If I understand BABIP correctly it can kind of indicate how “lucky” a player has been. Of course, if a player is hitting the ball hard a lot, they’re going to have a big impact on their own luck.
In the ESPN broadcast last night they noted that Machado has a lower than expected BABIP in spite of hitting the ball hard a lot. He’s hit a lot of at’em balls. His BABIP is expected to go up.
The shifts have skewed BABIP a bit, though. If a player is continually hitting line drives right at shifted infielders, isn’t that on the player somewhat?
Especially harsh for hitters is the ball hit up the middle that is no longer a hit for a lot of hitters. It was a hit for over 100 years, but not so much any more.
Adjust. It’s not like anyone has been hitting balls up the middle for 40 years and suddenly he can’t get a hit.
Pitchers adjusted when they lowered the mound.
Hitters adjusted when the ‘new’ splitter was developed in the 80s.
There have been countless changes to the game going back to when it was begun.
If players are too stubborn/stupid to adjust to what they face defensively, then so be it. let them hit .198.
My hunch is that BABIP is a simple stat, easy to understand (the name itself defines it) that may or may not mean much. It’s probably already stale. Originally, when people still cared about BA, it seemed to help. Look at Tony Gwynn’s numbers. BA and BABIP are close year after year. Career Totals: .341 / .338. Does anyone give a shit about BA now?
Time to get Jaylin Davis up here for an extended look for the Right hand hitting outfielder they desperately need.
Another HR Sunday to dead Center field.
In his first 7 games with the Rivercats he is batting.286 with 1.196 ops!
He has already hit 4HR’s,3 doubles,9 RBI’s and a .821 slugging pct!
Get him up here while the irons hot!!
Kat, you should be his agent.
Why has he played in only 8 games? Hurt? Some of those River Cat dudes have played in 30+ games.
I think he has a better chance of being eventually traded than brought up.
For whatever reason, management seems not to be thrilled with him…
He just came back Snarkk starting the year on the 60 day IL due to left knee tendinitis thus the limited games.
But as his agent I’m pressing the Giants hard everyday,he’s striking out less, showing good plate discipline, and just raking the ball to all fields. They need to get him up to the show as soon as possible,at 26 he’s reaching his prime years and he wants to remain a Giant instead of being traded while they continue to wait on Ramos..
Duggar’s last 48 PAs, 14Ks and 7 BBs. That’s a foundation for sustained success. It would be fantastic if he could put an end to the homegrown OFer lament. He’s also in the middle of a nice no injury stretch.
I didn’t realize until this season how fast he is. It’s nice having some speed on the bases.
Probably because until this season, he was never on base.
lulz
Isnt that a little high for k rate? About a third of time striking out. But bug Slugger Duggar fan…
A little high, but the ratio matters, too. If he’s making consistent hard contact when he does connect and is drawing a lot of walks, he’ll be very productive. His numbers might not be All Star good, like where he’s at right now, but plenty good enough.
It’s nice to see the WAR stat getting some air-time on the Flap today. 🙂
A quirk of the schedule has the Giants playing a 2-game series against the Dodgers next week. A little moment of weirdness in the schedule.
How about fuck? As in Fuck the angels. I hope we beat them into the ground. Like the 49ers losing to fucking Flacco, it shouldn’t have happened.
Ruf back in the line-up. No Swinging Dick, yet.
1. Austin Slater (R) LF
2. M. Yastrzemski (L) RF
3. Darin Ruf (R) DH
4. Buster Posey (R) C
5. Brandon Belt (L) 1B
6. Wilmer Flores (R) 3B
7. B. Crawford (L) SS
8. Donovan Solano (R) 2B
9. Mauricio Dubon (R) CF
Bummed about Wade. But I’m warmed by the fact that Ruf / Dick will trip over a fungo bat, or pull an oblique swinging the bat, or pull a hammie legging out a double in short order. Slater is the latest hologram outfielder. Wonder when he completely disappears?
As David Byrne said, Same as it ever was.
DH suits those two…
Slater was raking for a while, HRs to right center and pull to left.
Didn’t he hit that massive HR to dead left upper deck in Phoenix a few weeks ago?
He’s disappeared, WTF? If he’s injured, as usual, bring somebody up…
https://www.mlb.com/video/austin-slater-s-460-ft-home-run
Slater&Duggar are both just journeyman players in an outfield that’s full of them except Yaz.
Both average a strikeout every 3 AB’s which is way to high even for the occasional good game and defense provided. Then to have Tauchman who’s more worthless, and Dick&Ruf total liabilities in the field, and Dick’s often blown out back at any moment, u have a sad outfield.
Well, these guys ain’t available, Kat…
That’s a great picture. Fierce competitors on the field and looks like friends off the field. I wonder how many all star games had that outfield.
The only other outfielder that would fit in that picture would be Frank Robinson imo.
Duggar and Slater haven’t journeyed much, at least not in the majors.
exactly. When given the chance they have excelled. Duggar especially. He’s been productive and that’s got some Flappers doing a slow burn and that’s stupid. He’s on you fucking team goddammit. Be happy. And stop sweating the K’s, everyone in MLB K’s these days.
We root for them.
My son is stoked about Duggar. The stats and anecdotes roll. I just raise my hands in surrender. He’s right. So are the seers here.
That kind of thing happens organically, which is as it should be. I obsessed over Bobby Bonds as a kid. Sad day when he was traded.
An astounding number of kids in my neighborhood when I was growing up were sure they had a chance to play pro ball someday. Most didn’t even end up playing high school ball.
this has all been handled so stupidly. Manfred is a fool
I think this is kind of fun.
Adds some emotion to the game.
Arguments between managers.
Still, it’s bogus to get frisked in between batters. I wonder how many times this can happen to one pitcher?
Let’s get Scherzer for a rental before the trade deadline…
to a point. But it’s total bullshit that a manager can call for this.
imagine what this guy could have done if he’d stayed straight.
Yankees pull off a walkoff triple play to beat the A’s 2-1…
the next Tatis and this guy will be better.
He was born in 2001 which is something to make us feel older.
JT looks like he’s been forced to play 3B but he’ll try!
It was a weird feeling as a kid to open a pack of baseball cards and see Angels.
Any Angels…
They still don’t seem like a real major league franchise.
The OF play in MLB is horrendous.
I see one of those every day…
Bunted!
Wilmet!
The roster crunch probably won’t squeeze Wilmer. He and Dubie should be locks.
Gotta get to 5-0 to feel safe against this team…
There you go.
As usual, the homeplate ump is bad.
Bring on the electronic strike zone.
This ump calls the corners strikes on the LF side of the plate but not the RF. Obvious fuck ups. Don’t they beat the mofos over the head with this data and threaten suspensions or demotions?
What in the fuck is going on out there?
Forget it, Jake. It’s Disneytown, Jake.
Someone needs to explain to Disco that Disco is a better than average nickname.
Yeah and some other high profile SP uses gimme shelter as a warm up tune. Forget who. He needs to relax a bit and go with the flow.
I think JT may have a higher WPM count than Winn.
He looks into the camera like Garth without Wayne…
I actually had a flashback to The Magnificent Ambersons when Snow was shown looking into the camera.
Solano and Dubon at the bottom of the class, but the coaches will remain positive and keep working with each to help them become their best selves!!
Can of corn for T-Bone making 2 nice plays with an assist from Belt on the second one..
Which of these doesn’t belong?
Canned corn/T-Bones/Disco
Canned
Not in the age of disco.
All 3 can work. You have your big fat ass T-bone 🥩 with a side dish of gnarly canned corn, and then head to a Disco joint 💃🏻🕺to burn off the calories.
Snow is just so bad.
I don’t mean to pick on him…
They have to many left handed voice guys..
I guess I’m going with this order
1) Estes
2) Affeldt
3) Lopez
4)Snow
Pence will be back to right the ship. Book it.
Floyd Eddings would be better than this guy.
Wikipedia says: “He played for the New York Giants from 1982 to 1983.” Not a long NFL career!
Also a Cal guy!
This ridiculous motherfucker should be fired on the spot. Fuck these fat fucking incompetent pieces of fucking shit. This is the big problem that needs to be fixed with baseball.
He’s not particularly fat given the pads under his loose garb. He surely is fallible. But his fuck ups seem so random it’s hard to complain, objectively.
It’s a trope. I’m not complaining on behalf of the Giants in particular.
Well tropes aren’t objective, I’ll give you that.
Rough night for Slater&Solano both with the 3K’s Golden Sombrero..
James when he talks about homeplate umpires:

I’m not just about OPS, motherfuckers!
You got range!
Giants pitchers when they throw to first base….yikes.
JT was sort of grudging in his reaction to Belt’s terrific save on that play.
Sergio Romo dropped his pants when the ump inspected him? Gotta see that. I want Rogers to do that.
What was done to Scherzer was flat-out wrong. That shouldn’t be done while the guy is on the mound from now on.
Every manager could be asking for that to be done to mess with the opposing pitcher.
You got range!
Phx game was fucking crazy. Got to say I’ve become a big Booker fan watching g him inthese playoffs. Dude is nails on his midrange game
Thanks.
Over-reaction by Romo. He wasn’t on the mound.
Yeah breach of white people etiquette. Not acceptable.
Mound or not, what the fuck? This whole thing is such a grandstand by fucking Manfred as ti be ludicrous. He’s doing anything he can to get attention.
gimme disco shelter t bone is a good two. A very good two, so far this season. Smart signing.
What’s Slymy doing this year?
Day game tomorrow. Too bad Thursday is an off-day.
What’s coming next with these umpires checks,a full wedge?
And Joe Giradi was way out of control insisting on a 3rd check of ( which the umps should of refused) and after Mad Max stared him down heading back to the dugout, he was baiting him into a fight, before the umps tossed his ass..This shit is already getting out of control…
Blank the Hal000000000s!
10 shutouts for the season is insane!
Tops in baseball ⚾️ along with their record!
I was going through some memorabilia recently and came across some Chico Outlaws stuff. I went to a few of their games a while back. They were a minor league team in an independent league. The team doesn’t exist anymore. Part of the long history of minor league ball.

Interesting to hear Snow talk about the pain of ‘02. He said he thinks about it every day. I hope he’s exaggerating.
Really? Fans think about it all the time. To be that close as a pro and not get it? 5 outs? Ask Donnie Moore.
According to the internet: “J.T. Snow is a retired American professional baseball player who has a net worth of $15 million.”
It seems like he could move on from it, in my opinion, and fill his days with many amazing things.
Machado made a great play to turn a double-play and help get the Pads out off a bases loaded no-out situation with minimal damage.
If I’m a pitcher, and i get called out 3 times in a game, I’m throwing pitches into the opposing dugout.
Three times shouldn’t be allowed.
And none on the mound.
Looks like the pitchers are playing this frisk stuff to the hilt.
That tells me that lots have been using the S out of this Spider Bait or whatever it is.
Let’s give it two weeks to see how the league-wide offense is doing after the start of this stop and frisk business…
Scherzer basically admitted he’s used it in the past. After the game tonight he said “I had no feel for the ball tonight.”
It got dicey, but Melancon got the save. Pads win.
MLB caused all this by switching to a juiced ball from about 2016-2020. The pitchers did what they felt they had to do to compete.
