Bay Bridge Series
Whatever happens, if we win, please PLEASE leave that stupid trophy behind.
Nothing to worry about these days with guys named Brebbia and Sherfy closing the door.

Loo that’s funny. Kimbrel really had no idea Cubs had no hitter going into 9th? what game was he watching from the pen? He did walk Taylor to lead off the inning on 4 pitches before he K’d side, Cubs 8th BB of night. But no hits.
A’s are playing really well, just under .600 ball. Olson at 1b is tremendous hitter and very good 1b too.
Saw reports earlier in week Duane Kuiper might do game this weekend for SF.
Official word on Belt yet?
Wade was probably told to stay ready for the drive to SF.
Bochy holding the scrap-metal trophy.

If a person scratches their hand with the trophy they have to get a tetanus shot.
In all honesty, I think that trophy is spectacular.
I would give almost anything I own for it…
Wade did play for Sac last night, went 1-2 scored twice walked and homered. Played LF and 1b. Kazmir with 6 shutout innings in 8-0 W.
Slusser did say on twitter yesterday afternoon there would be no word from Giants on anything Belt related until today (Friday) because of day off. Wade Jr. did leave Sac game early after starting and leading off.
Interesting read on the Athletic from yesterday. Basically saying while everybody and their brother is clamoring for bullpen help, do not be surprised if the Giants target a starter at the deadline. Premise is that you have a couple of guys with ERAs over 4 (Cueto and Wood), and that by adding a solid starter, you have someone (Long, etc.) who could become a solid long guy.
Looking forward to Sunday…my daughter and I are going down for the game. Will be my first time to the yard in well over a year. Cannot wait!
Beat the Fucking A’s!
Bring it home, Chuck! Need some wins for the flappers.
According to Farhan, Belt likely for the 60 day IR.
https://t.co/htQBWpmrVT?amp=1
The link says 10 day, Chuck…
He’s gonna need surgery.
Not surprising,Belt wakes up in the morning and he’s already on the IL for some unknown maladies.
The complete list of injuries& illnesses have to be one of the highest in MLB history..
Found Duane Kuiper story, from Bruce Jenkins in Chron on Tuesday. Kuiper said he’s got one month of chemo behind him with 3 more to go. Normally goes in for treatment on Friday but it was moved to Thursday this week, so he hopes he feels well enough and has clearance from MDs to do a game this weekend.
LHP Manaea going tonite and another Sunday, so Slater Ruf Flores maybe Dubon get some more action.
Slater btw is 4-31, all singles 1 BB 11 Ks.
Manaea lost 2-1 game to Yanks I was watching last weekend on HR iirc and has a badass looking glove.
wasn’t HR it was 2 run double by Gary Sanchez. Went 5 1/3 gave up 3 hits 2 runs 2 BBs with 11 Ks.
I’m glad the Giants are missing A’s pitcher Chris Bassit in this series, he’s won 8 straight games and been pitching lights out..
My yearly quasi-rant that the goofball “geographical rivalry” games in the schedule are uneven and unfair. The Giants get 6 games vs. the A’s every season, who are usually good; and the Dodgers get 6 games vs. the Angels, who are usually not very good.
The Padres have no clear-cut “geographical rival,” so it would be interesting to know what the schedule gave them this season.
Seattle I think
Figures.
1. Austin Slater (R) LF
2. Darin Ruf (R) 1B
3. Mike Yastrzemski (L) RF
4. Buster Posey (R) C
5. Wilmer Flores (R) 3B
6. Brandon Crawford (L) SS
7. Donovan Solano (R) 2B
8. Mauricio Dubon (R) CF
9. Johnny Cueto (R) P
My son took off for the game tonight with a small handwritten sign, well designed for tv, that says: “VegA’s.” As I’ve mentioned before, he and his brother grew up Giants fans in Oakland little league dugouts.
Ha very cool we’ll look for him on giants telecast. Always tons of crowd shots, foul balls, kids, yada yada
Kinda doubt A’s sports channel will show them. And I avoid commentary, though Braden can at times be OK.
Any idea general vicinity where they might sit?
He and his Giants fan friends are near the rail club level above 3B/short LF. Orange Friday of course.
Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Aaron Nolan struck out 10 straight NY Mets batter to tie a MLB record ironically set by a NY Mets great Tom Seaver back in 1970 against the San Diego Padres..
Latest Belt news…
https://www.mccoveychronicles.com/2021/6/25/22551156/san-francisco-giants-brandon-belt-injury-lamonte-wade-jr
Not surprising.
Belt has been a walking DL for several years now. Concussions, knees, heels, there’s been more I can’t think of at the moment.
The guy just can’t stay on the field. Unfortunate, but he needs to move on next season.
Maybe he should just DH for somebody, though he Ks a lot…
If his knee needs to be operated on, he should retire. As his biggest supporter here, it really is a bummer to see this happen again now that he’s at last got bosses who understand his value. I’ll say it again: the Giants offense took off when they got the message “be like Belt.” Snarkk, Ks too much? LOL.
Taking a lot of called third strikes is a frustrating thing to watch. The Giants fans are a lot kinder than fans in the Northeast.
Belt’s an example of the power of luck, bad luck in his case. He’s an excellent 1B and middle of the LU hitter. He won’t be laughing happily as an announcer a few years from now like JT. I don’t think BABIP covers this.
Belt has power, but prefers to take called 3rd strikes too often in dashed hopes of getting on base from an umpire with a worse eye than he has or a different vision of the K zone. I recognize the efficacy of his OBP, but swing at a damn close pitch once in a while when down 2 strikes w/RISP.
He’s gotten a bit smarter lately or maybe listening to a coach — dropped a couple of bunts against the shift to drive in a run and get on base.
I’ve been the guy’s cheerleader here longer than anybody, but I’m cheer weary as he frequently has week or two long bouts of swinging through thigh high hit me fast balls, then a week of being hot, then hurt enough to be on the bench a few days in PH role only, then hot, then hurt enough for the DL, etc. I don’t need a lecture on being a Belt backer after being one for a decade. He was undeservedly screwed by the prior field management for years, in public, Bochy in particular, and badmouthed on air by the announcing team, and I said so at the time, early and often. This management seems to have his back more…
Taking ball 4 rather than grounding out more than makes up for the taken third strikes. Belt knew that, Kapler knows it, Zaidi knows it.
Sure. They cracked the code of baseball. It’s just not what the inventors of baseball intended for the sport, and what made the sport popular for 100+ years.
What the inventors intended? A century of tradition? Those are absurdly reactionary comments. My gawd.
I wouldn’t call those absurd comments.
Not in the least. It’s a legit POV.
Baseball’s popularity is down.
That’s why Emperor Manfred is trying all these changes.
Now, some of those are absurd. Like mid-inning strip searches…
Wait, wasn’t there one inventor of baseball? Involved a peach basket right?
If Belt could stay healthy as a DH say in Houston, he’d hit 35 HRs easily. He could play 1b on occasion. Kind of a reverse Posey situation…
Yeah let’s go back to the founders’ intent and resist innovation. Brilliant.
Posey scratched. Back.
3/4 of the used-to-be Bore Core out for tonight’s game.
Belt really was having a good year, yeah the dream type player Z/Harris is always looking for, high OBP, power, great defense, when he’s hot there’s few like him, same when he’s cold, though he still will get his walks. But I don’t see anyway Z will bring him back along with Cueto, just to much injury history with both. Only Buster&Craw will be back imo, their positions are still irreplaceable at this time.
Belt if he continues on which I think he will, he should just be a DH/ some 1B in the AL.If he wants to stay close to home, Astros with Dusty Baker a good match, Rangers meh, Yankees? A’s ?
Well said.
You see how mayor Schaff urged SF mayor breed to move real close to the plate for the first pitch? That’s exactly why she’s a shitty Oakland mayor.
Cueto didn’t give up a HR to the first batter, so that’s good.
Yay ballpark dimensions! 🙂
Archways/portwalk now open too.
Zman v. Beane, the Match of the Stats…
I had the strawberry sundae at Costco recently. That’s quite a dessert. I had to sit next to the Costco tire shop to eat it, but that was OK.

Your experimentation has some range.
It was spectacular.
Like to see Giants draft a Manaea type; maybe there’s one already in system. But he’s now started over 100 games for them, established himself as legit SP…and only makes $6 mil. Arb eligible next year, still can’t be FA til 2023.
Sure Giants can bring in FAs that want to pitch here, but years of control sure come in handy.
Not getting into politics of Ms. Breed, but Miller calling game always suffers with this noise. Gotta be Baer and marketing dept.
I never much liked Breed but she has her moments. I don’t think mid inning is one of them.
Uh oh.
Cueto losing some focus…
The strike zone was created in baseball to make sure the pitcher threw the ball where batters could hit it. It wasn’t created so players could grind out long at-bats and get walks or strike out a zillion times. It turns out that teams can win doing that, but that’s not how the sport became popular. And now the sport has declining popularity. That’s all I’m saying.
The reasons it’s losing popularity are various. Figuring out how to play a game more successfully is the fate of all games.
You mean … innovation? Maybe even … progress? Oh dear lawd. Where’s my bible?
Progress is an interesting concept. Cutting down forests used to be called the march of progress. Manifest Destiny.
That’s just terrible. Have you even heard of radical historicism ? You’re a history buff, right?
I have awareness of radical historicism.
Casali is the whisperer. He ain’t Buster, but he’s good.
Giants have 2 whisperers with a bat in their hands.Tauchman&Casali.
Phew, Cueto gets through some trouble. If he can get through early frames like this, he tends to be OK and gets in a decent groove for a few more…
Damm lucky to get out that base-loaded jam with Matt Olsen up…
“A century of tradition? Those are absurdly reactionary comments.”
MLB is a product. And the product has changed.
Coca Cola tried changing the flavor and it didn’t work out well, so they changed it back.
Baseball is not going back to old-school knowledge, nor should it be expected to, so what’s left is to make rule changes. That’s the only option left. But that’s a whole other topic.
That’s nonsensical. Baseball by your own admission is a cultural treasure. Capitalism will capitalize, especially cultural treasures. But the game can adjust. The capitalists need to see that it does, but they’ll always be paying attention to us — the culture. Is that wonderful? Fuck no. But it’s not the end of the world, much less the baseball world, either. it definitely ain’t co’ cola, as the hillbillies say. or the beatles. 🙂
I hope it all works out. It bummed me out that I couldn’t find the World Series on my car’s AM or FM dial last year. It’s hard not to think about how things used to be.
“Figuring out how to play a game more successfully is the fate of all games.”
I totally agree with that.
The goal is to win. I like winning.
Competition is not inherently virtuous.
Back in my punk rock fan days we despised competition. We completely rejected it. We had a great community of fans. It was a bit ‘60s-ish, which was cool.
Yeah, it’s tough to hang tough. My condolences.
Since I don’t know what that means, I have no response.
I was agreeing with you about competition in the whole society sense, which I take as your meaning.
I don’t know what that means is the most amusing passive aggressive response imaginable. What it generally means is yeah you nailed me but I refuse to admit. And you can’t force me! True.
No, I honestly have no idea where this conversation has gone.
Airhead is a good ploy.
Or maybe it really is hard to understand what you mean sometimes.
That’s passive aggressive too. You should talk to your spiritual advisor about that. Imo
The Wilmer&Craw show gets the 1st run in.
Flores is really locked in right now!
The awfulness of the umpiring strikes again. That 2-0 pitch call to Kemp was sheer incompetence.
Aldrete is ready to level a haymaker on Manaea over this warmup jacket BS..
Big-time escape there by Cueto.
“Tradition is the illusion of permanence”
-Woody Allen
I did not fuck that baby. Woody Allen
This is a nice crisp pitchers’ duel. Retro-baseball. 🙂
Just because they can continue to stink on the road,, the Padres jumped on the D-Backs for 4 runs in the first inning as they head towards their ongoing losing streak to a potential 24 games straight..
That is amazing.
I hadn’t realized Manaea was so stocky…
Cueto got a groove going. I’d take his 6 frames with no runs, and call it a success, take my chances with Pen…
Watching Manaea makes me think Wood can have another good run.
I hope Wood isn’t a Spider wash-out.
That won’t be the reason for washing out, not if spin rate is supposed to be the measure of the advantage (I hope you appreciate the consistency of the metaphor.) Wood was a good pitcher before the stickum controversy.
I am distressed at how batters are spitting on his slider lately.
I am distressed at the prospect of Rogers or McGee being objects of contempt tonight. But, yeah, it’s weird how that happens. I just assume it’s temporary.
You saw Kimbrel in the 9th inning last night? Oh my goodness. How can we get one of those? That may be the most dominant inning of closing I’ve ever seen.
Yay, Cueto got the 9th spot out!
The whisperer.
Wowie Casali!
Tauchman and Casali with last 2 bombs …
Casali started hitting a bit right after Tromp did well during Casali’s stint on the IL.
Good, I hope he’s figured something out with the hitting coaches, and/or his wrist is better; get that BA over Mendoza…
You know your team is going great when “The Whispers Boys” are hitting..
Ooof, Miller a little off there.
Is he in the park or watching on a monitor somewhere?
That was pretty funny.
Settle down on “That ball was smoked call Jon”
An embarrassing moment..
I was with him! Uh oh
It looked like he’d squared it.
It is totally awesome to be looking forward to a Duggar AB.
He has a really cool label on his bat.
Ok, I’m officially done with the rah rah positive attitude crap. It’s not me.
Cueto with a surprise 7 frame no run stint.
If SF can get some upgraded stints by Cueto, that would be most excellent on the back of the rotation.
He should look at how he warms up. Maybe change something. He usually gets hit early, then settles in if he escapes the early peril…
Mr. Rogers gets through the big boys.
Rogers has given up more goofy hits this year than most pitchers give up in a career. At least it seems that way.
Did get himself 2 Ks. though always good sign.
Mr Roger is the fucking best. It’s not just his effectiveness. It’s his cool. He is never distressed. Meme anyone?
That was a pretty tough ball to Dubon.
Blank the A’s!
lulz
Nice. Shut the fuckers out. McGee still makes me nervous.
Kudos to Cueto, that’s gotta be his best game of the season.
And the first game goes to the Giants!!
League leading 11th shutout of the season
to go with the most HR’s and best record in Baseball!
Who are these guys?
Game played in 2:23. That’s groovy.
My son’s VegA’s sign didn’t get on tv. But he did attract the ire of a nearby a’s fan. Dumb fuck. That chump is long gone now and my son and his friends are settling in for the fire works show. I think there’s some extra juice going for these games.
ah good for them and for all Giants fans that showed up. good to see yard filling up. Players gotta dig it too.
Game went 2:23, yippee!
Yeah, nice; that’s kinda like games used to be.
Before all the progress…
Concurrent with “progress”. The game is alive.
Couse, we all know the opposite of progress is congress.
I’m here all week. Try the veal . . .
I think you hit on the team slogan up top:
Your 2021 San Francisco Giants………WHO ARE THESE GUYS???
Casali said that was Cueto’s best fastball and A’s couldn’t catch up to it so kept calling it. Plus he hit bomb and caught 6th shutout of year so far. Baggs said SF now has 11 of them, no one else more than 8.
Pitching!
On great night with 37 thou listed for attendance. Hope good time was had by all not wearing green/gold.
In other not so good news, Heliot Ramos is 9-59 and batting .167 in June. Overall .241 BA and OPS .723. 10 doubles 5 bombs in 170 ABs. hmmnn. Tis a pitching strong league, but wondering if it’s fastball or off speed stuff he has having trouble with
