A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Disappointing and Dull

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on June 30, 2021

I guess the good news is that we were in both games. It’s not like we got taken to the woodshed. And now we return to the comfort of the warm Arizona heat. Sure, bank wins, yada yada but this team has holes and I don’t think Z can just keep filling them from AAA–although I do hope Jaylin Davis finally gets a shot and he might with Sock Man looking at a stint on the injured list.

this dude gotta be a part of Flap Nation, aye?

    • Lurker John said, on June 30, 2021 at 7:28 am

That’s awesome. A man has to have his priorities in order. lol

    • chipower9 said, on June 30, 2021 at 9:09 am

LMAO…that would be me…especially with those $12-$14 beers!

    • gianthead said, on June 30, 2021 at 10:15 am

He looks like a Neanderthal…must be a Flodger fan instead…

  2. Lurker John said, on June 30, 2021 at 7:22 am

My hatred for the Dodgers has not diminished in the least over all these years. Fuck them.

  3. Lurker John said, on June 30, 2021 at 7:24 am

And I don’t care if it’s April or September, games against these fucks are always meaningful and carry extra importance. As far as I’m concerned, a game is a game and they all matter in the end.

  4. Winder said, on June 30, 2021 at 7:45 am

Every team in baseball goes through losing streaks. The fucking Dodgers still look like the better team but we are close. It’s still a long season and I have a feeling we will be right there in the end. That is because we just don’t give up.

    • Flavor said, on June 30, 2021 at 7:47 am

this is a great point. I think we are close as well. I trust Z to get them closer to even by the trade deadline.

    • Lurker John said, on June 30, 2021 at 8:08 am

Absolutely, Winder. No quit in this team and that might be the most important characteristic any team can have. It’s certainly what the 3-in-5 guys had.

    • chipower9 said, on June 30, 2021 at 9:10 am

Agree. This team has resiliency. And this team has not lost more than three games consecutively all year. Fuck the bums.

  5. Winder said, on June 30, 2021 at 7:53 am

That little video reminds me of how many times a foul ball came real close but I was holding a beer. I have had foul balls roll right under my seat but my hands were full so I just said fuck it.

  6. unca_chuck said, on June 30, 2021 at 7:57 am

Your title sums it up. Both games I just felt we wouldn’t get it done. Esp yesterday after leaving so many on base the night before.

  7. Flavor said, on June 30, 2021 at 8:05 am

the best part about that video is there’s like a swallow left in each of those beers

    • Winder said, on June 30, 2021 at 8:09 am

Maybe they belonged to someone else.

  8. chipower9 said, on June 30, 2021 at 9:13 am

Great point, Flav. We gave up three runs a game to arguably the best team in baseball. We were in those games. We had the same amount of hits as the bums last night (the walks and a timely hit killed us), and we out-hit them 2-1 in the first game. Both games were possible wins with a timely knock.

Fuck the bums. I suspect we’ll be right there with them end of season.

  9. alleykat69 said, on June 30, 2021 at 9:29 am

Who would of thought the way the team was spiraling out of control before Zman (morroco mole) shows up,that he can turn this club from pretenders to contenders and I’m sure he wanted to be a seller but the team has played so well under him that they have now become realistic buyers and I’m diggin that!

The real scary thought is this isn’t his team but a reclamation project, but with good coaching hires, especially those nameless hitting coaches and Andrew Bailey the pitching coach who’s been outstanding, the players have bought into selective aggressiveness and the pitchers throwing strike one constantly puts them in a better situation to succeed.Future only looks incredibly bright when his legion of good draft picks are ready to take over in a few years..

    • chipower9 said, on June 30, 2021 at 1:02 pm

LMAO Kat. Love the Morroco Mole reference (from Secret Squirrel). There is definitely a resemblance.

      • alleykat69 said, on June 30, 2021 at 4:46 pm

Thanks Chi, I knew it would take a seasoned old timer to catch that one!
And yes it’s a striking resemblance..

  10. sandog said, on June 30, 2021 at 9:32 am

I still think we will fade and I don’t see us making any sexy trades, but I’m enjoying the hell out of this season and love this team. Always hurts to lose to LA, but I agree that playing them tough is encouraging. We’re on the right track for sure, but they still have a massive talent advantage over us imo.

    • Flavor said, on June 30, 2021 at 12:33 pm

trades don’t need to be sexy. Z did fine last year with under radar type deals. I’m at the point where anyone he brings in I’m like “Ok let’s go!”

      • sandog said, on June 30, 2021 at 1:41 pm

Then I think you are going to be pleased. I got the feeling you were hoping for bigger names. I see more Sherfy/Jose Alvarez type additions happening.

      • Flavor said, on June 30, 2021 at 2:32 pm

No way I’m down with anything Z does.

  11. gianthead said, on June 30, 2021 at 10:13 am

    Heliot Time…

    • chipower9 said, on June 30, 2021 at 1:03 pm

Ramos has been struggling his ass off of late…not a good time to promote him, have him struggle, and probably do a lot of sitting.

      • alleykat69 said, on June 30, 2021 at 1:40 pm

Yes agree Chi besides Ramos Fizz&Lucky Luciano are both going to be competing in the Future Stars A/S game
in Colorado, so that won’t be happening for Ramos who looks like he needs more reps anyway.

Now as far a Jaylin Davis goes the time is now especially with a banged up outfield.
Now with Santos off the 40 it’s a perfect time to activate Davis Thursday when he’s eligible to be added back on and I’m predicting he will start in Arizona tomorrow night as well!!!

      • chipower9 said, on June 30, 2021 at 1:59 pm

Agree whole-heartedly it is time for Davis to come up and see what he can do.

  12. Winder said, on June 30, 2021 at 12:37 pm

There is a SS for Eugene named Will Wilson that just might make some noise for us in the future and at the moment we are in 1st place by a 1/2 game. There are gonna open it up to capacity starting in July. FWIW

  13. willedav said, on June 30, 2021 at 1:37 pm

SD’s 9:32 hits nail on head. there IS a big difference in talent, position wise. Dogs hit A J Pollock, in 3rd yr of 4 yrs $55 mil deal, who is having slightly above average league season, 8th in their lineup.
They don’t need to platoon near as much as Kapler does, because they have guys who can play every day regardless of who opponents SP is–and they only play the kid Lux at SS because another stud Cory Seager is still on IL. As someone on another blog said, Giants “have less room for error.”

At deadline, let’s see what Z/H can do but bridging that gap unlikely to happen. More concerned about health of Longoria and whether others can continue to outperform what they’ve done in past. Or, in case of Slater Dickerson Solano, live up to 2020.
Pitching will matter most of all and can mitigate talent gap, but—rotation already leaky after Top 2 (who took Ls last 2 days despite decent outings) and every contender will be after reinforcements. Another Scutaro walking in the clubhouse door?

  14. willedav said, on June 30, 2021 at 1:58 pm

Still think good pitching can beat good hitting, especially in playoffs. Z/H have been able to make good additions, but not without some fails along the line. Not sure anyone from minors ready yet, so adding to talent base will have to come from somewhere else. Maybe Brebbia aisle still offering reasonable quality at low price.

  15. unca_chuck said, on June 30, 2021 at 2:21 pm

Praying for the pitching to hold out is going to be a fool’s errand. We will end up with a lot of games like these last 2 if we don’t do something about this anemic lineup. The bench is thin as Karen Carpenter so we should at least rotate some guys through. Davis especially. Been wanting them to give him a shot since he got here. But they continually overlook him. And I hadn’t even heard of Esparta till they brought him up. ANd I occasionally check the AA and AAA stats

Not expecting any big trades, and God knows we aren’t dealing ANY prospects (hello Bryan Reynolds) but a bat or 2 and pen help would be good to see.

  16. alleykat69 said, on June 30, 2021 at 2:55 pm

I would like to see Z/H speed dial the Marlins and see what it might take to get Trevor Rodgers, Yes Tyler’s younger twin brother who’s been solid and is a left handed reliever but not a submariner.
Plus for other great positive vibes the Rodgers boys have a cousin we’re all too familiar with named Cody Ross, now that would be added juju for sure.

  17. Flavor said, on June 30, 2021 at 2:55 pm

    cool pic

    • Flavor said, on June 30, 2021 at 2:56 pm

i went to try to find this bomb but the only thing on youtube was a clip/interview of him during an all star game. Look at how old Bob Feller is as he pitches to Mac in the all star game, lol

      • Flavor said, on June 30, 2021 at 2:58 pm

that’s got to be an old timers game right?

      • Winder said, on June 30, 2021 at 4:40 pm

Yep, They had one before the 84 all star game at the stick. First time I saw Mays at the plate since I was a kid and it did bring a tear to my eye.

    • unca_chuck said, on June 30, 2021 at 4:02 pm

Crazy they had these old-timers games. Told y’all I nearly caught a foul pop from Wille Mac in an Old timers game in 1983 (I think) Mac was newly retired, and he hit a mile-high popup down the RF line, and we were in our usual ‘razz-Jack-Clark’ seats and I camped under it and drifted up the stairs as it got pushed further foul, and it just ticked the upper deck railing and landed on the field. 1 inch to the right and I would have caught it.

      Still bums me out.

  18. snarkk said, on June 30, 2021 at 2:59 pm

3 game loss streak not a time to panic.
BUT, this set with Doghairs emphasizes the position player talent divide. Huge. And, LA is missing a couple of top line guys who should be back in the second half. Tauchmann — he probably wouldn’t be good enough for the Doghair’s AAA outfield. Likely, Giants won’t have the talent to win the division, but given the great start, should be able to get a WC berth, unless the wheels absolutely come off. Once in the post-season, you never know. All the Giants championships of the 3 in 5, they did not have the most OVERALL talented team. Pitching is the most important thing in post season, and avoidance of errors / cool under pressure is maybe next. Giants in all three of those, rarely gave anything away, it was the other team that F’d up or came up short in pressure situations. Because IMO, Giants were totally used to winning close games, as a routine matter…

Oakland a’s host the rangers tonight — some baseball to take a look at, I guess. This news story, which obviously has attracted some national attention, reminded me. Ah, The Town!

Apologies if anyone has already mentioned this.
Nowadays, who knows whether there is substance, or a money grab against a rich athlete?
All I know is if I were these young dudes with millions, I’d be extremely careful. I can understand that these guys could be better off just paying for the interludes, probably safer in many respects…

apparently he’s got text messages with her that she was complicit in * rough sex*. He says he met this chick on the internet. Whatever, he’s in a boatload of trouble now regardless of what those text messages say I bet……

    • unca_chuck said, on June 30, 2021 at 4:08 pm

Met her on the internet! “Hit me! Choke me! Beat me! Well, not really.”

      What could go wrong there?

I swear, do these guys think this shit won’t come out? Doesn’t the last 800,000 guys to get exposed (heh heh) ring any alarm bells?

      • snarkk said, on June 30, 2021 at 5:41 pm

He’s going to say that she wanted all that — before learning he was a Dodger zillionaire.
Then, it was money she wanted.
She’ll say the texts mean near nothing — he went way too far when she said stop.
He’ll end up paying, whatever the reality was.
These guys just don’t think, or continue to think with the wrong part of their body, after they’re millionaires.
Their agent probably warns them, but they’re young, rich and stupid…

    • unca_chuck said, on June 30, 2021 at 4:10 pm

Well, DeShaun Watson did go the massage route. That didn’t work out so well. But hey, he should have rubbed up against Robert Kraft for advice.

      • snarkk said, on June 30, 2021 at 5:45 pm

Kraft could have a harem of $10K hookers on nightly retainer and his bank account wouldn’t move.
But, doofus he was, he visited a garden variety massage parlor.
Got caught up in a revenue raising John sting.
He’s a white billionaire. He got off that rap with barely a pinky wiggle to his lawyers…

      • unca_chuck said, on June 30, 2021 at 5:57 pm

I’m sure that’s part of the thrill.

      • snarkk said, on June 30, 2021 at 6:01 pm

        Could be.
Maybe he should just have a shell company buy a handful of massage parlors in various NFL cities, and drop in for a “sorry we’re closed” visit when the Patriots are in town…

  21. Lurker John said, on June 30, 2021 at 3:16 pm

That’s a cool video, Flav, replete with a knock off Rapid Robert and a clip of Willie Mac’s 500th dinger at the old Launching Pad, Atlanta Fulton County stadium. I seem to remember the Giants having a lot of luck hitting there over the years against some admittedly bad Braves teams. And how about those 1978 double-knit unis? Reviled by many then, they are classics now.

  22. djloo27 said, on June 30, 2021 at 4:36 pm

My understanding from the younger crowd is that EVERYONE meets on the Internet now.
    We all did…

  23. snarkk said, on June 30, 2021 at 5:59 pm

Instead of a pre-nup, maybe these rich athletes need to get a pre-date document signed before even meeting in person. I give Timmeh credit for not yet being married. He’s got his approx $100+ net millions intact, and all separate property…

  24. djloo27 said, on June 30, 2021 at 6:28 pm

Is it necessary for every home announcer to claim that their grounds crew is the best in the business as they ready the field after a rain delay? On and on about 40 guys who roll up a fuckin tarp and rake sand…

    • Flavor said, on June 30, 2021 at 7:20 pm

excellent call. How great would it be if an announcer went “oh shit these yoyo’s again? They could roll a doobie how are they going to roll this tarp. I fucking hate these losers”

  25. PaulinAsia Banh Bao said, on June 30, 2021 at 8:22 pm

I always find it interesting whenever asian massage parlors (AMPs, in the local vernacular) come up in the news, ala Kraft et al. There’s definitely a generalization to be made about them, but really, there’s quite a range of levels of service, many of them actually being just straight-up massage. How many Flappers have ever actually been to one? Or two? Or twenty? …. It’s too bad they get such bad press (it’s too bad some of what they do is even considered illegal). Of course, it’s also too bad there are bad apples that basically are sex traffickers, but many of them are above board and fill a neat little need in the community. IMO.

    • snarkk said, on June 30, 2021 at 11:25 pm

good for the suns, always liked them going back to purple unis with boiling sun on hip. Ricky Sobers smiling somewhere. Tried not to miss Connie Hawkins Paul Silas (McClymonds of Oaktown) Walter Davis Paul Westphal when they came to town either, special shows always.

    • blade3colorado said, on July 1, 2021 at 6:57 am

I always liked the old Suns, especially the Van Arsdale twins (Tom and Dick) . . . eerie how they both were excellent free throw shooters, and made the all star team 3 times.

Edit – just looked it up: both played a dozen seasons too. Weird.

    • Macdog said, on July 1, 2021 at 7:23 am

Alvan Adams another nice player, and of course who can forget Gar Heard’s heave in the 3 OT finals game vs. the Celtics.

        Excellent, Mac.
If I was in charge, I would absolutely use that to hype the series in a big way.
Unfortunately, Walk passed away in 2015, otherwise I’d try to get him and Kareem to attend some games together…
