A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Banking Wins

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on July 1, 2021

With our lead down to 1.5 games it is a good time to face the D-backs. Honestly, I’m not worrying about the standings anymore. LA and SD will be in full stride soon and it’s very likely they pass us in the standings. But who cares? If we fill the gaps we have and we stay close there’s no reason we can’t be in this race all Summer.

It is time to get back to winning games.

Mac, you know what Alvan’s favorite joke was? “You know we have triplets on the Suns. We have Tom Van, we have Dick Van, and we have Al-van.”

    • Macdog said, on July 1, 2021 at 8:03 am

      Ha!

  2. djloo27 said, on July 1, 2021 at 8:01 am

Would you guys sign right now for a wild card game vs. deGrom at Citifield?

    • Macdog said, on July 1, 2021 at 8:06 am

Sure, deGrom would pitch his usual 6 innings, Gausman keeps it close and the Giants beat their ‘pen for the win.

      • djloo27 said, on July 1, 2021 at 8:07 am

        Bumgauser?

  3. gianthead said, on July 1, 2021 at 8:11 am

Just need to play .500 ball at worst the rest of the way and should get us a WC spot. But time for them to bring up Heliot and see what other right-handed bats are out there for pick-up and another starter. Playing over .500 is even more likely…

  4. zumiee said, on July 1, 2021 at 8:21 am

“Gary Brown was a career .429 hitter (3-7).
    Who knew?”

And he got a World Series ring. Ted Williams and Ty Cobb never got one of those.

  5. gianthead said, on July 1, 2021 at 8:24 am

Would the Rockies entertain a deal sending us Jon Gray and Trevor Story???? What do we have to give up? Both free agents, so maybe 1 upper tier prospect 2-3 mid-lower tier?

    • Flavor said, on July 1, 2021 at 8:27 am

Story plays 3rd base in the scenario?

      • djloo27 said, on July 1, 2021 at 8:37 am

He’ll have like $6 million coming to him for the 2 month rental…

  6. gianthead said, on July 1, 2021 at 8:25 am

    Logan Webb one piece?

  7. zumiee said, on July 1, 2021 at 8:39 am

GMs almost never trade top prospects anymore. Verdugo for Betts is the only time that’s happened lately.

  8. willedav said, on July 1, 2021 at 8:43 am

Don’t see Z/H doing the high cost rental thing.
Here’s a momentum thing for you though—Joe Ross W for Nats vs. Giants started them on 10-1 run, and after 2 Ls they’ve run off 4 more in a row. 14-3 gets them right back in race.
Gausman-Darvish WC game would be pretty cool too.

    • willedav said, on July 1, 2021 at 8:44 am

Nats are 19-9 for month of June after consecutive losing months to open season, so before that game 5-6.
Lot can happen in short period of time.

  9. Winder said, on July 1, 2021 at 9:06 am

Looks like it’s gonna be a rubber hits the road scenario for the rest of the season. We just gotta out pitch and hit most every team we play. We need the ball to bounce our way on occasion too. It’s kinda funny but since we’ve had so much success I have come to expect it. When in reality expectations were extremely low for most around the league. Winning does spoil you for more.

  10. unca_chuck said, on July 1, 2021 at 9:09 am

The Giants would be very foolish to trade draft pieces for a misguided run this season. Farhan ain’t gonna go down that road in a million years. That was Sabevans thinking. Which got us 5 months of MehCutcheon, and Pittsburgh is getting 5-10 years of Bryan Reynolds.

  11. unca_chuck said, on July 1, 2021 at 9:17 am

Frankly, I don’t think the pitching holds up, but we’ll see. This team desperately needs bench help and a pen arm or 3. Longo, Belt and LaStella are distant memories. We can’t play every game 3-1.

Haven’t heard a peep about Longo. We are at the 4 week mark of heim being out “4 to 6 weeks” and that was early May.

LaStella? Well, he broke his thumb a few days ago, so he’s dust in the wind.

Belt is, Belt. 4 weeks? 4 ever?

  12. unca_chuck said, on July 1, 2021 at 10:08 am

BTW, it’s Bobby Bo day. He gets his $1.1 million check from the Mets today. He retired what, 20 years ago?

  13. alleykat69 said, on July 1, 2021 at 10:11 am

Have to figure all 3 teams the Dodgers Padres &Giants are getting in the playoffs.
The Giants have a sizeable lead 7-8 games over any other wild card teams. It would have to be a major epic collapse not to make it.Their pitching and defense has carried them and the 116 bombs leading the way doesn’t hurt either. Just don’t see them going into a major slump, especially when they can keep beating up on D-backs and Rockies..

    • djloo27 said, on July 1, 2021 at 10:27 am

If the Giants play the Mets in a WC game in NY, I would fly in Gillaspie to bring out the lineup card…

      • alleykat69 said, on July 1, 2021 at 10:52 am

For sure Gillaspie could stroll up to the plate with his gamer face on!!

    • Flavor said, on July 1, 2021 at 10:47 am

      Agreed

    • chipower9 said, on July 1, 2021 at 2:54 pm

      Sound logic IMO…

  14. chipower9 said, on July 1, 2021 at 10:42 am

GH – Do you follow the minor leagues? Ramos has been struggling of late. Now is not the time to bring him up. He needs to play every day and work to get his hitting stroke back. Up with the big club is not the place to address his current issues, IMO.

  15. chipower9 said, on July 1, 2021 at 10:45 am

    Ramos for June:
.155, .261, .268 with 2 home runs. 15 hits in 97 ABs. Those are NOT stats that get you promoted from AA to the bigs.

    • xoot said, on July 1, 2021 at 10:52 am

Yeah. And that comes after a great May. I haven’t seen any writer dig into that drastic nose dive.

  16. sandog said, on July 1, 2021 at 10:57 am

    “This is your team”

Yes, I am sure we will shuffle a few deck chairs around as time goes by——and Z and co are pretty damn good at doing that, so who knows, maybe someone like Sherfy saves 10 games from here on out.
For me, this season is found money. Whatever happens, I’m gonna enjoy the ride.

I would “bite your hand off” as the Brits say, to sign for WC game V DeGrom.

    • chipower9 said, on July 1, 2021 at 2:56 pm

“For me, this season is found money. Whatever happens, I’m gonna enjoy the ride.” I could not agree more SanDog.

  17. alleykat69 said, on July 1, 2021 at 11:04 am

They can activate Jaylin Davis today as his 60 days IL ends and he’s tearing up AAA..
They still need to clear up a 40 man roster spot, but no big deal Santos took care of that.
Hoping they call him up for tonight’s game and stick him in the LU as Sockless will probably head to IL..

    • unca_chuck said, on July 1, 2021 at 11:13 am

I hope so. After letting Pence suck in the OF most of last year, the shit of tail gunner Joe, Wasabe, and Cap’t. Rickard, and their ignoring of Davis, you have to hope he gets a taste of 10 days while Tauchman cools his heels on the IL.

    • snarkk said, on July 1, 2021 at 11:27 am

If they IL Tauchmann and Davis doesn’t come up, you’ll know he’s way back in the doghouse for some reason…

      • alleykat69 said, on July 1, 2021 at 11:39 am

Yeah that’s for sure.Doesn’t BLM count for Jaylin Davis?
It looks like he’s found his stroke and has cut down on his K’s
so hopefully the doghouse door has opened!
I’d even like to see him leadoff with Yaz 2nd if he’s ready to go again..

  19. willedav said, on July 1, 2021 at 11:28 am

M Kelly and Zac Gallen are listed SPs for DBax tonight and tomorrow, both RHPs so maybe Davis gets couple more days in Sac. Read Yaz might be OK for tonight. Seems likely LHs Dickerson GD Tauchman will be rolling…have a feeling btw RF friendly yard and AZ pitching Yaz could be much improved health wise.

Great read in Athletic from Eno Sarris on giants hitting coaches and improvement of vets. All were open to info and approach and result is more barrels/less chasing, and great numbers at plate for Craw Posey Belt and Longoria.

  20. willedav said, on July 1, 2021 at 11:39 am

Hope Thairo gets a start too, give Solano/Flores a rest. Solano this season has hit RHP for higher BA than LHP, but all 3 bombs are vs. LHP.

    • djloo27 said, on July 1, 2021 at 11:43 am

Yes, Wilmet can’t handle every day usage…

    • alleykat69 said, on July 1, 2021 at 11:45 am

That would be a good move Willied, don’t want to overwork Flores&Barrels
and Thario can handle the bat he doesn’t K much. What’s great is he can spell Craw a day here and there and can play multiple positions on the infield..

  21. unca_chuck said, on July 1, 2021 at 11:43 am

Pretty good synopsis of the recent drafts by Zaidi and Co and all the minor leagues in general. This comes out once a week by Roger (no relation to Scott) Munter.

“I would “bite your hand off” as the Brits say, to sign for WC game V DeGrom.”

Fun fact or not fun fact: DeGrom was drafted several rounds after Gary Brown was drafted. All the teams passed on DeGrom for many rounds until the Mets finally drafted him.

      • snarkk said, on July 1, 2021 at 4:44 pm

people have told me that those short-term domestic violence TROs are easy to get — the later injunction hearing with the defendant’s right to respond being another thing. You’d think her lawyer could’ve obtained the TRO without disclosing so much detail. I guess it may be a wild-ass, publicity-stunt shakedown. In any event, he and the bums surely are locked tightly to the imbroglio now, and it won’t be easy to get loose. Too much Spider Tack on this one.

Hawks btw have exactly the type of player GS desperately needs, imo—John Collins, taken at pick #17. Supposed to meet up with coaching buddies Saturday, see what they have to say about wild GS trade rumors etc.

Unbelievable another pitcher with a base hit and this one was costly.,

Christ. Another base hit by the opposing pitcher for an RBI.

Krukow is fading fast, game by game.

    • unca_chuck said, on July 1, 2021 at 7:26 pm

Kruk and Kuip both may not make it through the season. Fucking weird.

      • snarkk said, on July 1, 2021 at 7:29 pm

I know Kuip in on some chemo regimen.
But, has it been said what for?
I’ve heard him a couple of times on KNBR, his voice seems a bit raspy.
I know he was a smoker of some sort for a long time…

Yeah that stupid phrase I want to get that, I want to get that, is really getting stale.
Besides the club will get him anything he wants anyway..

Escobar couldn’t beat that out? Solano was in CF for fucks sake.

  60. alleykat69 said, on July 1, 2021 at 7:36 pm

Escobar was moving like he had a big shit dribbling down his pants..

surpised, that typically would have been Assdribble Cabrera, not Escobar 🙂

    OK time to get nitpicky.
Every time Kuiper (and lot of others) says Cueto’s name it comes out “kway-toe.”
I don’t think that’s accurate; the sound of the “e” even after the “u” is softer.
My experience around Spanish speaking people who use the expression “andale pues”, the sound of the “e” in pues is soft, not “pways.”

    • xoot said, on July 1, 2021 at 7:47 pm

I agree, the entire diphthong is soft. It’s not really “w” for the u either. Pueblo isn’t pweblow and it’s not pwayblow.
