The Best Part of the Summer Begins…..
The second half of the season is about to kick off and thankfully Daniel has done all the work for me with this comprehensive breakdown of the series vs the Cardinals.

As I am still on vacation this is greatly appreciated. @c70
I don’t put any stock into the 2 games we just played them. I like our pitching line up (Gausman, Disco and Cueto) and they seem pretty lost in that category with Waino and then the dreaded “undecideds” after that….
Morikawa fires a 64 today to get the Open off to a rocking start! And down at the Old Del Mar…take it away Bing….
“back to the summer heat in Sac..”
It’s only a mere 97 tomorrow. 🙂
I never heard of Jay Jackson.
He’ll be 34 in October…

he’s the kinda player rambunctious ex jock dimwit racist white guys call bad ass. I think he may have a season or two in him as the taller, harder throwing Romo.
Guess it doesn’t matter who the Giants pull out of a hat 🎩 they do well.
Can’t quite figure out how Jackson got the win when they led 4-1 after 5 with Littell in there then up to 7-1 and they went thru 5 other pitchers before Jackson came in? Best of the quality relievers gets a win?
If the starter doesn’t go five innings, technically the scorekeeper can give the win to whoever he or she feels most deserves it. It’s not usually done that way, but it can be done that way, like tonight.
Brian Kenny hates pitchers getting wins and losses. He feels it’s something that skews perceptions of pitchers, and that the sport doesn’t need it.
I see his point, but there’s something kind of nice and traditional about it. It adds something special to box scores.
Any time the Giants defeat Kershaw, and tag him with an L, that adds something extra. He has to wear that L.
Who’s Brian Kenny?
Giants had a badass black pitcher by the name of Mike Jackson who was as nasty as they come being primarily Rod Beck’s setup man from 92-94 he had great stuff! And a look on the mound that would pierce thru a hitter.. Wonder if there’s any relation with Jay?
Nice win. I assumed gausman starting. Why Webb (although it worked out well!)?
Gausman out due to medical issues involving his wife’s pregnancy.Should hopefully goes well for her and he will return shortly.Think the Giants didn’t want to tinker with the rotation and start T-Bone so they went with Webb who pitched well..
“Who’s Brian Kenny?”
He has an analytics-focused show on the MLB Network called “MLB Now.”

Thanks. I’m sure he’s informative, but listening to Saber guys prattle on gives me a headache.
Their saber prattling should never rattle an Old School guy!
“saber prattling”
Well done! 🙂
Mike Jackson was tough, hard throwing RHP. In defense of GD, 2 balls hit hard (thought for sure last one was hit to opposite field) plus all important BB as he came around on Wade Jr. bomb. Pregame stats for lineups, he still had no worse than second best OPS on entire Giants team and better than every single Card.
Walks do matter and so do 3 run bombs that only come with good on base skills.
Rogers with clean inning and a K.
Cards to start 2 LHPs rest of weekend so see how platoon stuff works; hope Crawford just had cramp as reported.
wow Nothing is Easy for Braves as they add Ian Anderson to IL list.
did add Steven Vogt in trade with AZ. In other ex-Giants news Christian Arroyo homered in BoSox 3-0 W over Yanks.
Ha, nice one!
Who’s gonna play the flute now?
Heavy dose of Ruf at 1B and maybe Slater since both usually destroys LH pitching.
Crawford will get a dayoff with Estrada at SS.The RH hitters come in today with Kapler’s LU..
Yeah I used to have all the confidence in the world when Mike Jackson pitched, he just had this steely eye attitude coming into a game with dominating stuff and was the perfect setup in the 8th for the Shooter in the 9th to close out a win..I believe Jackson a few years later after he left the Giants he picked up a W/S ring for the Reds? Good for him..
Unless Casali plays 1b again, they are short a RH I think unless Posey activated. Yaz Slater Solano Thairo Ruf Wilmet Tromp Casali?
As Mac said, Casali sure is raking lately, with power.
From yesterday: Kat’s observation that Duggar doesn’t hit offspeed/breaking stuff well is right. But he’s not that unusual. Here’s Yaz’s profile:

Of course, one purpose of junk is to get hitters to chase. When hitters go out of the zone, it’s often going to be on the slower stuff, and the numbers will reflect that.
