A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Yikes

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on July 29, 2021

Well, that was ugly. That’s actually how I expect every game vs LA to go but, luckily, I’m usually wrong. I have very little faith in Cueto these days but we have no choice but to support him this evening.

I’m surprised at the Max Scherzer news. I never thought they’d trade him unless it was for a king’s ransom. I guess that still might go down like that but it’s starting to look like Washington would take less. I’d still way rather have Berrios than Scherzer.

Got home in time to see the Jarlin Garcia strikeout of Bellinger…love the cut of Jarlin’s jib. Love seeing the white shoes on Rogers.

And way to stick it to L,A. after last night’s drubbing!

Oh, yeah! Great series. Now tomorrow is going to be a wild ass day, well before the stros show up.

  6. alleykat69 said, on July 29, 2021 at 3:33 pm

    Giants!!!
    Getting it done!
    3 game lead again!
As they take the series 2games to 1 and add a SHUTOUT to boot!! 12 shutouts now incredible!
Great job by Cueto and The bullpen..

      Yes it was.

They showed Wilbur Flores baseball shoes.Cracked me up not only a small picture of the Friends Cast, but also Elroy from the Jetsons!!

I love that tomorrow will be the one trade deadline. No more sketchy waiver wire deals.
    I hope we stand pat.

    • alleykat69 said, on July 29, 2021 at 3:54 pm

Is Harvey on the trade block?

      • sandog said, on July 29, 2021 at 3:57 pm

He was rather Brebbia-like coming back from camping, but he has 10 and 5 rights and isn’t going anywhere…..

    • alleykat69 said, on July 29, 2021 at 4:04 pm

Good to hear Harvey’s a Flap institution! 10/5 rights have a lot of pull..
Yeah like Brebbia, Harvey was sputtering and not running on all cylinders..

  10. djloo27 said, on July 29, 2021 at 3:55 pm

Well for those who don’t think a CF platoon of GD/Slater can win a WS, they did it in 2014 with Blanco/Perez.
Pagan did not appear in the PS…

    • xoot said, on July 29, 2021 at 4:25 pm

Pagan was injured by then. No more stand up triples. The Giants entered the PS with Pence as the only legit starting OF. I think Perez and Blanco both played at the same time. Certainly in game 7 they did.

      • djloo27 said, on July 29, 2021 at 5:25 pm

        They had Morse, too.
        Had to look it up.
        I get blurry between the 2012 & 2014 teams…

  11. unca_chuck said, on July 29, 2021 at 3:55 pm

Funny, in that video I never noticed the Dodger fan in the background.

Great win. I heard bout half of it till the mountains knocked it out

    • alleykat69 said, on July 29, 2021 at 5:58 pm

      That would truly suck!
If that happens, the Giants have to counter punch with Bryant&Kimbrel are atleast Bryant and Berrios..

  13. alleykat69 said, on July 29, 2021 at 5:55 pm

Dubs select at #7 Forward Jonathan Kuminga NBA G League Ignite..

  14. unca_chuck said, on July 29, 2021 at 5:58 pm

    Another high-upside guy
I just jhope he can bang underneath

  15. unca_chuck said, on July 29, 2021 at 5:59 pm

I hope the Dodgers gert scherzer. He’ll cripple the team and we’ll still kick their ass.

  16. willedav said, on July 29, 2021 at 6:08 pm

good luck to Ziaire Williams from Stanford, headed to Memphis. Like him a lot what I saw in college, versatile player and good passer too.

  17. willedav said, on July 29, 2021 at 6:10 pm

Good players that can shoot and score left for GS. Wouldn’t have gone Kuminga route, but next pic needs to e someone more able to help right away at offensive end.

  18. unca_chuck said, on July 29, 2021 at 6:13 pm

The Warriors need an inside presence. They have scorers.

    • unca_chuck said, on July 29, 2021 at 6:25 pm

As long as he can defend and bang underneath, the scoring is gravy.

    • willedav said, on July 29, 2021 at 6:27 pm

not enough of them. They are gonna start Green and Looney. what happens once Curry comes out? Need more reliable bench scorer than Poole.

      • willedav said, on July 29, 2021 at 6:28 pm

Yeah dig Moody! from the university of Arkansas love it

      • unca_chuck said, on July 29, 2021 at 6:33 pm

        Klay and Curry overlap.

  19. alleykat69 said, on July 29, 2021 at 6:13 pm

And the Sacramento Kings at pick 9 take Guard Devion Mitchell from Baylor, a tenacious defender/relentless driver, won 3 National Defensive Player of the year awards. Nickname “Off Night” cause the guys that he guards have off night. Solid pick for a team that wasn’t that good on defense.

  20. unca_chuck said, on July 29, 2021 at 6:28 pm

Think they go with Moody. Defender and can grow as a scorer.

  21. unca_chuck said, on July 29, 2021 at 6:30 pm

    Yep. Can’t pass him up.

  22. alleykat69 said, on July 29, 2021 at 6:34 pm

Pick 14 for the Warriors is….
Moses Moody Guard Arkansas SEC Freshman of the year.

  23. djloo27 said, on July 29, 2021 at 6:34 pm

    I agree with Kat.
Looks like this Dodger blockbuster is going down and the Giants have to respond…

  24. unca_chuck said, on July 29, 2021 at 6:36 pm

    I’d take Story

  25. djloo27 said, on July 29, 2021 at 6:41 pm

This “little engine that could” crap can only get you so far.
Time to step up and make a statement…

  26. zumiee said, on July 29, 2021 at 6:44 pm

The Nats are doing a tear-down/rebuild two years after winning the World Series. Sheesh.

    • unca_chuck said, on July 29, 2021 at 7:02 pm

The Marlins did it the year after they won it all. Twice.

  27. alleykat69 said, on July 29, 2021 at 6:48 pm

Damm right Loo, they can go way over anyone’s expectations by stepping up RIGHT NOW and strike while the irons hot! Counter punch 🥊, no rope a dope at this point!!

  28. zumiee said, on July 29, 2021 at 7:01 pm

The Dodgers are giving up a highly regarded prospect at catcher, but they’re already set with Smith.

  29. unca_chuck said, on July 29, 2021 at 7:02 pm

Giants don’t have to do shit. This year is gravy. False expectations is what got us into the mess we are in.

    • zumiee said, on July 29, 2021 at 7:02 pm

      Ah, the counter-argument.

      • unca_chuck said, on July 29, 2021 at 7:11 pm

So, Kimbrel at what $22 mill for this season and next? For what, Bart and Ramos and a few others? More? They want a ton for him. We spent the last 2 years stopping the stupid deals and getting out from under bad contracts. It ain;t a gigantic contract but it’ll cost us prospects. I’d rather get Story.

    • unca_chuck said, on July 29, 2021 at 7:03 pm

At least nothing involving highly rated prospects.

    • willedav said, on July 29, 2021 at 8:23 pm

I’m with Chuck on this. Don’t do anything foolish and give up players that are going to help you down the road. You respond to LA and SD same way you have all season–manage what you’ve got to best of abilities.
They got Crawford back and Longoria and Belt due back early next month.

  30. alleykat69 said, on July 29, 2021 at 7:32 pm

Bart and Ramos aren’t going anywhere Chuck. There’s plenty of talent the Cubs can look at from 8-20 are beyond.Players like Pomares, Toribio,Canário, Wyatt, Hejelle,Wilson,Genovês etc..
Z/H could get real creative if they need to.Plus the Giants are well below most teams in luxury tax, they can easily absorb a Kimberly contract. It’s Bryant they would like to extend as more then a rental if they can.

  31. zumiee said, on July 29, 2021 at 7:36 pm

    Could be interesting tomorrow.

    • zumiee said, on July 29, 2021 at 7:39 pm

Every day of this season has been interesting.

      • James said, on July 29, 2021 at 7:54 pm

Yes, in fact we are feeling lucky …

  32. unca_chuck said, on July 29, 2021 at 7:54 pm

The Cubs ain’t taking some 75th ranked guys for Kimbrel. Shit i don’t know. i’m usually wrong about this anyway so what happens happens. I WAS right about Trey Lance though!

    • alleykat69 said, on July 29, 2021 at 8:25 pm

Oh I don’t think any of us were really believing they were going to take Doughboy Jones.. All just smoke and mirrors. Hell I nailed the Kap pick but I’m not proud of it now.Lance is going to be a Stud in the NFL..

      • zumiee said, on July 29, 2021 at 8:28 pm

Kap came darned close to winning a Super Bowl.

    • unca_chuck said, on July 29, 2021 at 9:24 pm

I won a signed Alex Smith jersey for the Kaepernick pick in a contest the Niner Insider ran

  33. djloo27 said, on July 29, 2021 at 8:11 pm

Athletic reporting the Dodger deal is done.
    Your move Z…

  34. zumiee said, on July 29, 2021 at 8:27 pm

The Dodgers gave their top two prospects in that deal, I think. I would be surprised if the Giants do that.

  35. alleykat69 said, on July 29, 2021 at 8:32 pm

Padres finalizing a deal for Nats reliever Daniel Hudson..

  36. PaulinAsia Banh Bao said, on July 29, 2021 at 8:34 pm

2014 Giants also had Ishikawa in the OF. I recently watched the 20-minute highlight videos for all 3-in-5 wins. Good fun! Forgotten so much of it all. Both 2012 and 2014, especially 2014, I still wondered how we won those championships. 2014 OF of Ishi, Perez, Blanco, Pence…. man. They were all playing at their maximum, and good things happen when they do that. Fuck Sherzer, fuck Trey Turner, fuck whoever else LA might get; perfect recipe for a big fail. G’s will need to counter, but not by giving up the future, Z is too smart for that.

  37. djloo27 said, on July 29, 2021 at 9:01 pm

If we don’t have a prospect worth bringing up to replace the likes of Sock Hop and Brebbia
how good can they be? This season is about winning now. They’re not building anything.
Who’s under contract beyond this season?
What minor leaguers are ready to step in?
Z must go all in now!!!

    • unca_chuck said, on July 29, 2021 at 9:34 pm

They aren’t ready yet. The whole point of building for the future.

      • djloo27 said, on July 29, 2021 at 9:41 pm

  38. PaulinAsia Banh Bao said, on July 29, 2021 at 9:21 pm

Sure, but if they’re not good enough to replace the likes of Tauchman et al, why would any team trade for them? If Z can get a Bryant and/or a top-rated starting pitcher for a bunch of not-very-good *prospects*, great, pull the trigger, but I’d hate to see a few of them who actually do seem promising get traded for a pitcher the Giants won against in the World Series 9 years ago…. (Yes, technically Scherzer didn’t get the loss in game 4, but still.) Agree, win now, and hoping for a sizeably significant trade in the next 24 hours, just hoping Z has some untouchables that are part of his longer-term plan.

  39. willedav said, on July 29, 2021 at 9:25 pm

Crawford, as quoted by Shea: “If we add, great. If we don’t, great. We’re playing well with the team we have.”
Dogs and SD were supposed to be class of the Division and better on paper than Giants; not arguing it and they still are. but game is played on the field, and Giants are team still in first with other two looking up at them

  40. unca_chuck said, on July 29, 2021 at 9:29 pm

All in now? They are JUST getting out from that kind of thinking that led them to shit-town. Before this season EVERYONE said the team would be ready in 2023. So, throw away those picks to bank on now?

Foolishness. Like Doyle Alexander for John Smoltz, or even Reynolds for fucking Cutch, you can’t make that move regardless of the short-term impact.

    • PaulinAsia Banh Bao said, on July 29, 2021 at 9:37 pm

I remember late ’80s in Boston at the deadline, Sox traded a prospect to Houston for middle reliever Larry Anderson, who was pretty much useless down the stretch. That prospect? Jeff Bagwell. Oops. Just don’t want to see a major oops here, that’s all.

  41. unca_chuck said, on July 29, 2021 at 9:31 pm

If wee can get Story for mid-level guys, great. But a blockbuster move like the Dogs are doing will blow up in their face. The Pads will fuck up all on their own.

  42. PaulinAsia Banh Bao said, on July 29, 2021 at 9:32 pm

Had to chuckle at a news item from China: A billionaire pig farmer was sentenced to 18 years in prison on Wednesday for “picking quarrels and provoking troubles.” My goodness, if the US did that, they’d need a shitload more prisons….

    • xoot said, on July 29, 2021 at 9:49 pm

I don’t understand the charge, but it sounds funny — as if the authorities are touchy, instead of politically zealous. Zealots. Man.

      • PaulinAsia Banh Bao said, on July 29, 2021 at 9:55 pm

There were some other “instigator” charges besides just picking quarrels, I just thought that was funny. Obviously the gov’t had their sights on that guy for some reason and could word the charges anyway they want. Yes, they are touchy. Very thin-skinned and see threats to their power everywhere.

  43. alleykat69 said, on July 29, 2021 at 9:41 pm

With you all the way Loo! We will fight till the trade deadline is over!
Every Giants pitcher but Webb is even a F/A next year.Lots of 1 year deals on position players as well. They have a shitload of money coming off the books and even right now there 30 plus million under the luxury tax. What’s holding them back?Get Bryant atleast but both would be perfect,as the Giants are banking on Longo and Belt to comeback healthy and produce, that’s backwoods thinking and I know Z/H are better then that. Most prospects never end up panning out anyway.Shit u can have an outfield of Bryant,Ramos,Yaz,GD&Slater platoon, but of course they will hang on to Dick like they wasted a 1st half worth of Sockless.
They can’t stand Pat and expect to win the division, while Pads and Bums reload.

  44. xoot said, on July 29, 2021 at 9:41 pm

I never understood fan trade demands until I found the splash and saw twinfan go into action after the Giants signed Rowand. “This is it! Now they need another big bat! They MUST trade Lincecum for Alex Rios. NOW! Go all in, Sabean!”

    • PaulinAsia Banh Bao said, on July 29, 2021 at 9:52 pm

You’re right, I also remember Michael pushing hard for Rios, although I wasn’t sure it was Timmy he proposed for the trade. Glad they didn’t make that one, huh…

    • zumiee said, on July 30, 2021 at 12:08 am

TF had an odd sort of dislike of Lincecum, on a personal level. He rode Lincecum very hard on the blog when Lincecum started to decline.

      • zumiee said, on July 30, 2021 at 12:13 am

The roots of it were probably TF’s usual thing: the white players are beloved, but the Latin players don’t get the love from white fans. TF’s race theory about MLB fans.
