KB Arrives?
I’m still super irritated with KB for lollygagging his ass to town. Turns out we didn’t need him but that is a BAD sign as far as I’m concerned. I’m sure my irritation will go away once that first bomb flies out of the park….
Two flap up salute to the passing of Dick Lamm. He was the dad of one of my best friends. We are at the age where our parents are starting to pass on–it’s a heavy, unknown burden to bear, one that I’m not sure how I’m going to handle when it happens to me. I’m thinking of Scott and his family today. I’m so thankful I got to see both my parents this Summer. You reading this dad? I love you!
Players technically have up to 3 days to report to there new team, so no surprise Bryant’s first game would be today.( they will bat him cleanup from here on out)It’s a lot to deal with for a player, packing bags, wives, kids ( pulling them out of schools/daycare) relocation, finding a new condo, house, travel, cars, it’s just not easy mid season, compared to being traded in the winter for an easy transition to ST..
Read where a new player going to a new team usually takes about 15-20 games to adjust and really feel comfortable hitting there stride again.Hopefully that won’t be the case for Bryant, they’ll need his RH power bat to help stave off the Dogpile right away..
Well said.
I just hope he learns to want to be here.
1. LaMonte Wade Jr (L) LF
2. Kris Bryant (R) 3B
3. Mike Yastrzemski (L) RF
4. Buster Posey (R) C
5. Brandon Crawford (L) SS
6. Darin Ruf (R) 1B
7. Steven Duggar (L) CF
8. Donovan Solano (R) 2B
9. Logan Webb (R) P
In the interview with Z right after the trade was made, he said that Bryant was ecstatic to be coming to the Giants. Giants have a couple months to work in a long-term deal. Three with an option would work, IMO.
Go Giants – Best the cheaters…
We play in a band box.
FA hitters will be lining up to come to SF…
65 degrees at game time, but conditions seem ripe for another homer fest today…
Ripe for Gurriel it seems..
That’s Kris with a K.
The teams with the two best records playing each other this weekend, and not one game shown on any of the national networks. Way to go MLB!
It is the free game of the day on MLBTV, if that helps anyone…
Geez a double for Ruf…Fuck Ruf..😒
Bryant bomb!
What a laser beam!!!
There you go a bomb by Bryant welcome sir!
And Yaz follows it up with a ringing double to the 415 kiddie section..
Was the Red Rhino DFA’ed?
Lol he’s too big for his britches now to bother with a Giants game.
KB addition already shows how his bat really extends this LU…
Freaking Ruf another huge hit knocking in 2 for the lead!
GD WTF???
GD struck out twice in that AB.Freaking swing the back when you have 2 ducks on the pond in scoring position ferchrissakes!! As Twin would say..
Nice quick shutdown by Webb…
We all know the Giants pitchers suck as hitters , so they to drop a bunt down to help themselves out.
Webb is there best bunter easily. That was was beauty and 1st pitch too always important..
Chi, dont think 3 year deal with an option year is going to do it for KB. He finally hit his free agency year after much heartburn with the Cubs and this will be his only big free agent contract. Begin at five years because someone else will. 5 year $100 mill does he take???
Not nearly enough, GH.
He’ll need an AAV of $30 million…
OK Mr. Bryant, I forgive you for yesterday’s lollygaggin’
I’m not worried about signing KB. It’s probably much less than 50/50 ESPECIALLY if he performs like we hope he does. Driving back from Reno today, listening to Marty’s show, maybe it was Laskey, I forget, they made a big case for Greinke to get into the HOF *in 10-15 years* once you start comparing him to what today’s pitchers do—which is shit, they do shit. How are any of these young guys gonna get into the HOF pitching 5 innings a start?
Garcia is impossible to watch pitch
You sure lit a fire under Ruf, Flavor!
when someone needs a kick in the ass I am happy to step up and kick them
Ruf.
Hot Ruf!
Fucking RUF stay HOT 🔥🔥🔥
Grave Duggar not looking ready to play today.
Overmatched again.GD needs to get his act back together..
It’s hard to criticize the one pitcher who can bunt, but Krukow’s right. If Webb had pulled back and butcher boyed that pitch Gurriel charged, even if he missed it or fouled it off, Gurriel probably wouldn’t’ve charged so hard again. And, of course, he might have made hard contact.
Shocking, a nice defensive play by a Giants pitcher — Leone…
Wow, I didn’t know all that about pinch-hitter Castro, going back to Cain’s perfecto.
Leone with a great effort.
Rally slapped down, with a smooth defensive play on the bunt leading the way.
Friggin’ pitchers for SF need to bump up their defensive play.
Part of that is on the coaches, too. Have some infield for the pitchers. If they already do that once in a while, it doesn’t show…
Another good play by a pitcher!
The usual dinks and doinks off Rogers
Rogers generates the grounders, and some will find their way into hits, it’s just the way it is with him.
Infielder placement is key, because not many are going to K.
A few more Ks would be nice from him…
Still very aggravating
Nice play tho
Hell yeah, that’s two good defensive plays in a row by Gyros hurlers !…
I’m going to start calling Wade “Bobbles” he’s good at it in 1st are the outfield.
Don’t want to say that if I ran into his mom at a game though, she’s got a menacing gamer face on and would kick my ass..
Lol!
Man, solano is making me old watching g him field geounders
He’s making me think about bringing back my “Stonehands” moniker I used for Durham way back when…
shaky Rogers gets thru the 8th…..
So, this has been bothering me for a bit. I don’t have a problem with teams advocating getting vaxxed. But I don’t like it on the field. It’s just a PR move. Almost everyone on this side of the Bay is vaxxed. And those who aren’t will not be swayed at this point my a PR move on the field. In fact, most of these anti-vaxxers are stupid and therefore stubborn and it will make them less likely to get the vax–although at this point I can’t imagine anything motivating them. Which brings me back to the Vax Up ad scrawled all over the field. Get rid of it.
like, maybe run a Vax up ad across the ad line behind home plate once in a while. On the field is overkill
The only thing that will make these anti-vax people get the vax will be that their choice of “freedumb” actually has consquences for them. Such as, vaxx up, or lose your job, or no entry to the ball park, or no movie theater. Lets see how much their principles are worth to them when it actually costs something. Europe is starting to introduce consequences like that and withholding of other privileges, and lo and behold, they are having a sudden spike in vaccinations…
Like anything that’s in front of you all the time, you don’t really notice it after awhile…
Give the morons a beer and a hot dog voucher and vax ’em at the yard.
In NY, they’re paying people to get it.
I should’ve waited…
https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/new-york-city-will-pay-people-100-get-covid-vaccine-n1275290
that makes more sense to me that scrawling “Vax UP’ all over the field. I hate that.
Woo Hoo! McGee! My favorite!!!!
Mr Magoo!!!!!!!
These guy are just fucking amazing.
Really good series win for the the GMen.
They can more than hang with the big boys.
Dusty’s charges are totally legit.
This Kris Bryant thing looks like it will be a good add for sure…
I agree 100%.
Good series win!
They play like a team that expects to win…
Kris Bryant will be peppering those LF bleachers like Jeff Kent did, that I’m going to dig..
Giants went 7-3 in the recent 10 games with LA and Astros…
On a weekend that had Giants vs. Astros and Dodgers vs. D-Backs, the Dodgers gained no ground.
That Astros squad looks like it is the AL team to beat to get to the WSeries. They can friggin’ hit. Their pitching may not be the best, but they upgraded their Pen at the deadline. To me, the AL title is theirs to lose…
The 2021 Giants are a perfectly constructed organism, ready to absorb all the positive or negative shit thrown its way. If there’s a God, no question who wins this year’s WS.
yeah, that’s a master amoeba we got there, ain’t no upstart bacterium or even some badass virus got a chance so long as we trust in god.
But the Giants did take a series against the second-best team in baseball. And the new super-utility player contributed a lot. I was hoping for Watson in the 8th, but that’ll come.
Truly intelligent design would have included a Watson appearance.
Giants as the Borg…
Madison Bumgarner turns 32 today.
I could somehow see him finishing his career as a Giant…
Cueto vs. MadBum set for Tuesday.
I could see that too Loo. And what’s even better the Giants could low ball him again on another contract..
as to the vax up, I hope to see it during the world series. even the EU has passed the usa in vax % now (and that’s pretty piss poor, let me tell you).
The birthplace of fascism still has its share of “independent thinking” petit bourgeois nitwits. But the latter day sans culottes just needed a bit of compulsion to get in line. I suspect we have a cruder, more perverse sort to deal with.
the inability to use enormous resources to distribute effectively was the problem, from my son’s perspective (not that he, at the age of 23, perceived the problem the way I did), Here in the USA , where genocide and slavery took off fast in the olden days, the petty bougies got jabbed real quick.
Only 19 of the U.S. states have over 50% of their people fully vaccinated for Covid-19. None of those states are in the South or in the northern ‘mountain states.’
VAX UP signs on a baseball field are about as effective as Gerald Ford’s WIN buttons…
la lucha sigue, compa
call from Stix tonight. No news, really. Health issues, but not bad; work continues, but not swiftly. He’s always happy to hear about the 2021 Giants.
Stix should be really happy—as Kap said, they played well vs. 2 very good squads. Interesting to see how Bryant/Boras and Giants/Kapler plays out. right away he sends platoon guys to the bench, especially in OF.
What is best spot in lineup for him and how does that affect others? $$$ shouldn’t be an issue—if he likes it here and plays well, Z/H should be able to make him an offer he can’t refuse.
added bonus–his family can drive down from Vegas every time team is in AZ–like for next 4.
I would say 2-3 hole for Bryant, I want him up as much as possible.I believe Ross was trying him some at leadoff knowing he would get the most AB’s then anyone there, but not for the Giants I don’t think that’s a good spot for him.You can use Yaz,Slater,Wade , and maybe Estrada even.
There’s other options behind with Yaz&Posey 3are4 depending on pitcher L-R even a healthy Belt would be good protection, possibly Longo as well lots of veterans with experience..
My guess on contract 4/140 with a 5th year option is what will be needed. This is his 1st chance at F/A to test the market after the Cubs screwed him over at the start of his career..
He’s a definite player they need to hang onto with his multiple positions he can play..
Interested to see how we come out in AZ. After winning a couple of dogfights against LA, and the Stros, I just hope we don’t have a letdown like we did in the Pirates series.
Agree, Winder. Trap series?
Tuesday – high drama…Cueto vs. Mason Saunders.
Looks like it could be a trap series. I don’t think it will be though.
Mason Saunders, haha.
Good memory, Chi.
I hadda google…
Giants the only team in baseball with less then 40 losses at 39! Incredible what they have done ✅
Saw Camilo doval pitch for Sac vs. Reno Aces yesterday. In 8th, with 1 run lead, he left after walking bases loaded. Threw more sliders than fastballs, dunno why. first guy up, RH, he threw 3 sliders at 87 bending one in for a strike. Then here comes high hard one at 98, inches in front of bill of batting helmet.
yikes epitome of uncomfortable AB. None of fastballs he threw were less than 97. command, um still lacking.
Somehow, so far, the Padres and the Dodgers have played a few more games than the Giants.
Padres- 108
Dodgers- 107
Giants- 105
The Giants lead the Dodgers by 4 in the loss column, and lead the Padres in the loss column by an astounding 8 games.
Padres and Dodgers are off tonight.
I noticed the Indians and Bluejays have only played 102 games the least, I’m assuming more rainouts?
Dbacks have been playing a bit better lately, overall. Gyros should take the series 3 of 4, you can’t assume a sweep, obviously, but take it if it comes. Getting the first one tonight would be big. The schedule is kind to Giants the next two weeks, with 10 of next 13 with Dbacks and Rockies. If they can take 7 of those 10, that would be great. Brewers are 3 of the 13 , in Brewtown, so that looks tough. After those two weeks, the schedule is brutal the rest of the season…
Gotta get Gauze Pad straightened out.
If there was ever a season that a 6 man rotation made sense this was it.
But I don’t think anybody tried it…
Got to wonder if the umps cracking down on spider tack has something to do with Gasman’s ineffectiveness. He didn’t drop off right away, but he seems to have lost velocity.
He’s not controlling that split or forkball like he did before. They’re spitting on it, not swinging on it.
I think that kind of trick pitch doesn’t depend on high spin rate, but a lower spin rate, so I’m not convinced the sticky stuff ban is really impacting him.
His post AS game and baby emergency control seems to me more of the problem.
I’d like to see League offense stats on before vs. after the ban on the sticky stuff.
I’ve seen a few articles that say the early returns show increased offense…
Chron had some of that today for Giants and A’s. Everyone on SF has less spin rate Cueto is affected the least, DeSclafani a bit more than him. As for ERA change, most dramatic by far is Gausman at over 2 runs; Cueto and Wood up 0.75. Webb and DeSclafani ERAs have dropped a full run.
As you said, other things factoring into Gausman slide. James mentioned loss of velo on fastball too.
spin rate and ERA stats since June 3…these were only ones listed so some other statcast stuff might say more, like hard contact or BA or bombs.
I don’t think that was it Chuck, I’m more inclined to believe his wife’s birth was more complicated then we’re led to believe and that messed him up,along with his mechanics are out of whack and he mentioned that one after his last start.Just need to find my release point.Teams in their prep work are laying off his splits, sliders, breaking ball more when it’s “ out of the zone”.It’s all about continually making adjustments on both sides.
For all of are cringing when :Oh great it’s McGee coming for the 9th to close,
well guess what he was just named closer of the month in the NL with 7 saves in July!
Amazing.
Smoke and mirrors, baby. Mr Magoo still makes me nervous, as do all the seemingly seeing-eye hits that Mr. Rogers gives up, but they are getting it done, so why worry?
And 23 saves out of 25 save opportunities. Giants first in the ML with 38.
If the shoe fits…
Yeah, most of the blown saves go to the likes of Whisler’s grandma Brebbia, ZZ Flop, and the rest of the AAAA relievers we blew through. Diigging getting Watson back.
Count me as still not convinced by McGoo.
Bottom of 9th in game 7 of NLCS, up by one run in oppo’s house.
You’re not nervous about McGoo giving it up?
I am, and would/will be…
That’s why God invented whiskey.
In that situation, I’d be nervous about ANYONE, Snarkk.
Even the greatest have failed…

I know Kap likes to make sure everyone is getting playing time, but unless he’s injured (and he might be) I think Wade should keep getting those leftfield starts against the righties, now that Ruf has earned more playing time at first base. Dick hasn’t really earned starts. But Wade might be dinged up.
When people start coming off the IL, and Wade is probably sent back to Sac, that is going to hurt to see happen, and Dick gets to keep a major league roster spot. The guy hasn’t been real good in a long time.
All that to say, I guess, I don’t like seeing Dick getting starts at Wade’s expense. But, obviously, Wade might be dinged up.
They’d better not send Wade down at the cost of Limp Dick. Certainly they see how well Wade is doing. Plus, his mom may very well kick Grandpa’s ass. AND Kapler’s.
Dick has an MLB deal, but it’s in late season stages now.
If he got DFA’d, not a lot of money wasted.
Wade instead of Dick, for sure, if that’s the choice.
Dick has been limp or hurt all year, so it’s time to stop Waiting for GoDick…
Action Jackson is an easy called to be shipped out as well.3 bad outings and Options , the double killer ..Can’t believe this crap 💩 up 7-1 now tied at 8-8!!
