Lame Loss
Bumgarner beating us is irritating but it’s more irritating that a team with a .315 win percentage beat us. I actually liked to see a little fire out of Kap last night even if it didn’t totally make sense to me why he got so bent. He did say the “BS” word though. Oh my.
Big start for Gasman tonight. Estes was on KNBR yesterday saying this was all mechanical with his split and it’s an easy fix. Ok, well, let’s see it fixed tonight.
We really need Gausman and Disco-dude to find their mojo again.
Well, if Gausman’s fix is so fucking easy, why in the hell has it not happened yet. And I don’t want to minimize the potential impact of his wife’s pregnancy/delivery. But we really need him to get right…now.
Have to give AZ some credit. Sunday Dogs pounded them 13-0 and scored off every single one of 6 pitchers they used. Then SF got 7-1 lead, and instead of folding they knocked D/S out and tied game up. Last night they were just good enough, and Giants bad enough despite some unlucky loud contact, to end up 3-1.
Kap should have Crawford/Posey back, plus LaStella and maybe Belt in a week according to baggs. LaStella also would take up spot on 40 man so roster move needed.
It would behoove couple struggling CFs (with options as does Dickerson) to up their game a bit. The LH one is 4-22. Ramos last game in Sac he was 4-4 with 3 rbis. And Kapler did say Bryant can play that spot. hmmnn
zero angst over these 2 BC guys not playing either. Posey had slogged through 4 hour extra inning game night before as second of back to back; Casali freaking homered too. Real chance Estrada is one sent down today for LaStella, so Crawford (with only Solano as backup) gets day off to rest while Giants have 1 day off in next 2 weeks. Kapler is trying to win a pennant, not appease anyone in fanbase.
If you don’t think posey wanted to take hacks off bum or that bum didn’t want to pitch to him, you are missing something
Do you know if Kapler asked them or not if they wanted to play? Baggs suggested he did or at least explained what his intentions are. Both were available to PH according to Flem. But if you have more inside intel on conversation inside clubhouse, pls enlighten rest of us.
If you played sports growing up one of the best parts was to play your friends. I am assuming it would be 100 X more important to guys like posey and bum. It’s human nature. I’m very surprised you don’t understand this concept.
Bochy would have played one of them, at least, guaranteed.
Likely Posey.
If Giants had to lose one of 4, might as well lose to MadBum.
Hope it’s only one…
That’s a great point, Snarkk.
Kotter has no emotional investment in Giant history…
I think it will be Aaron Sanchez sent back down right now, he won’t be needed after throwing 3 innings last night in his Houdini act of só só pitching.Jackson 3 straight bad games could be an option as well.If they really think Solano can backup Craw which I’m leery about then Estrada is another option I assume. Didn’t realize Dickerson has a option as well, but that Slam bought him more time..
Kapler’s really looking bad on his challenges lately, that one last night involving Ruf was just a waste of time, you can tell the homeplate ump was pissed off having to get NY involved on a obvious no win challenge.Shit even Ruf never flinched are played it up that he got hit..
I read a piece last night where Kap was speaking to playing Posey and Craw against Bum. His main point was they have a plan for days off, etc., and he said he would address them playing or not with each, but that what he felt was best for the players and team would drive his decision. With this said, I assume those conversations were made. I do not see this as a big deal.
I don’t see this as a really big deal.
And, Kapler has done a great job this year.
But, it gives me pause about Kapler’s ability to see the forest for the trees, and get his head out of his scheduled ass in situations down the road that call for a common sense assessment of a really important situation. Go by the book no matter what, or go with a decision that seems to make more sense in the moment under the facts and circumstances presented?…
I do not see whether or not Posey or Craw played or not against Bum as a big deal. People are making too much of this, IMO.
I don’t think it’s a question of whether or not it was a big deal. The question was, would posey and craw want to face bum in the batters box (and vice versa). Personally I think that is a resounding yes for fairly obvious reasons. And Kap should have appreciated that
I think they probably had a conversation and that all were good with the decision. We’ll probably never know.
For the 13th consecutive season Larry Baer has the Giants starting the 2022 season on the road.4 in SD and 3 in Milwaukee before facing the Marlins on April 8th.Screw Larry that’s a rough 7 game stretch. Will they ever start at home under his dumbshit thinking ever again?
While the Dogpile at home against 2 patsy’s Rockies&D-Backs!
What’s the reason for this?
Weather? The weather has to be much worse in the rest of the country in late March/early April.
There must be a marketing angle…
They always seem to end the season at home, which will again be the case in ’22, so I think that has something to do with it. What the reasoning is for wanting to end at home I don’t know. I’m pretty sure Buster, and also Belt and Craw, have never experienced a season opener at home. Maybe they don’t care, but I would think just once they’d like to stay in the Bay Area after their couple games with the A’s to end the preseason instead of always hitting the road.
Sorry Mac, I missed your reply before I posted mine.
My guess would be starting on the road means they end the season at home. That gives them home field advantage if they are in the race and would also bring in mo money.
I never knew that teams had any say in their schedule outside of the availability of the stadium on a given date.
Do they?
Baer seems to have clout somehow,he always ask the scheduling far in advance to have them start on the road and finish at home and they certainly oblige for now 13 straight road starts..
You can’t blame these 2 anymore . . . https://www.espn.com/mlb/news/story?id=1936328
Blade the article was from 2004, so we shouldn’t have been blaming those two for some time now.
John, I knew that. That’s why I said “anymore” . . . Nor can you blame the Sports Scheduling Group LLC of Butler, PA – which had the contract immediately following these two people. They were cut loose in 2017.
Dunno who got the contract after that, but it’s BS that Baer has any input imo.
I didn’t realize it’s been so long since a home opener to start the season. I think it would be nice for the fans if they had a few here and there. Not sure how ending the season at home really matters unless you are in a tight race. After a long season I imagine the players appreciate ending it at home.
You can start complaining about the 2022 schedule . . . https://www.mlb.com/news/2022-mlb-schedule
The Giants schedule where they play the Pads 10X over the last 27 games is ridiculous…
Casali gaffe last night wasn’t the first time that has happened.2018 Boston’s catcher Christian Vasquez ( sp)had it happen to him.Stopped a pitch with the ball rolling just behind him and he put his mask on the ball.Umpire immediately pointed for both baserunners to move up a base.Had that what did I do bewildered look at the ump..
What is the rationale behind the rule? A mask is a legitimate piece of equipment.
Can a fielder catch a pop up with his cap?
A catchers mask is only used for protection not to gain an advantage it’s just common sense. It would be like an outfielder trying to stop a ball in the gap by throwing his glove at it, same with a cap it’s just a no no.Now u can pull a Kevin Mitchell and barehand a fly ball though, still one of my favorite plays of alltime..
It’s an automatic three bases for the batter and any runners “if a fielder deliberately touches a fair ball with his cap, mask or any part of his uniform detached from its proper place on his person.” Rule 7.05(b). I checked it out after last night. Don’t think I’d ever before heard of the automatic triple.
yeah, I think Kat’s right, too — a catch is defined so that only the glove or hands are involved. A foul tip that gets stuck in the catcher’s mask ain’t no third strike.
Well we all remember this…
yeah, I think that ball stuck in the glove play has happened a few times. Funny how that lands outside the rule.
Casali’s fuck up last night on the dropped pitch isn’t unique either. Red sox catcher did it fairly recently, too.
I also skimmed past a prohibition on using equipment to interfere with the path of a foul ball that might roll fair. No mask throwing at a bunt down the line. I think it may be ok to kick a foul ball, though, to kill it.
1-1 A’s/SD going to the bottom of the 3rd. HR for Jed Lowrie, and a RBI single for Adam Frazier who has an incredible 88% contact rate. Its no wonder why every team wanted him except Pittsburgh lol ..
Another side note..Mark Cahana got hit by a pitch in the 1st number 19! already.
Team record Don Baylor&Jason Kendall with 20.He should easily piñata his way past that mark..
And I always thought a guy like Ron Hunt was a ball magnet, though I do remember Baylor getting drilled a lot ..

You can start complaining about the 2022 schedule
Ok, I’ll bite. After the first homestand, the Giants go on a three-city 10-game road trip to Cleveland, New York and Washington. That’s in April. It’s probably safe to say there’s going to be a rainout or two during that trip.
I’ll also throw this out there: Giants play at Minnesota Aug. 26-28, Fri-Sun.
take Stix to a game day?
That would be bad ass….
That would be awesome. Swing through Wrigley after.
I like the way ya think Unca. No way you go to Minny-Sota and not hit Wrigley.
The fuckig league, schedulers, or whoever the fuck does it, should make it alternating home and road. Simple.
OK, I never heard of that rule before re: prohibition on using a catcher’s mask, or a cap, to catch a ball or otherwise deal with one. Learn something new every day. I don’t like the rule. It stifles athletic creativity. If your glove somehow falls off as your run to catch a ball, seems perfectly OK to me to use your cap to try to catch the ball. It’s on your person, it’s not an illegal piece of equipment, it’s the opposite — a common piece of equipment, maybe the rules even require wearing one, I dunno. What if you catch a ball with your bare hands, but cradle the ball in against your uniform to catch it? Or you fall while catching with your bare hand and you press the ball against your cleats to catch it, or press the ball with your hands against your cap (on your head) to catch it, ala David Tyree’s “helmet catch” for the NY Giants in the Super Bowl some years ago. Aren’t those uses of equipment other than the glove..?
a baseball catch is secure possession of the ball in flight — with hand or glove. Athletic precision, I suppose. seems ok to me. t ballers often try to trap the ball. Almost as funny as seeing the entire team run after a grounder.
You can’t take your shoes off and stop the ball with it. If your shoes are on your feet, you can trap it against your shoe.
Love it!! Down 3-1 bottom of the 9th and 2 outs the A’s rally to tie it off Melonface!!
Man I can’t stand that guy for the 2 wasted years he had with the Giants! Happy for him today though, helping the Giants cause..
Ghost runner times now..
They showed MadBum’s 2 HR game in the season opener at Arizona during last night’s game, of course it was Melonhead who blew that game and the Giants lost.
A’s just beat the Padres 5-4 on a Matt Olson 2 run double off the wall!!
WTF was Myers doing out there?
There you go. We need to make hay against the snakes.
1. LaMonte Wade Jr (L) 1B
2. Mike Yastrzemski (L) RF
3. Buster Posey (R) C
4. Alex Dickerson (L) LF
5. Brandon Crawford (L) SS
6. Donovan Solano (R) 2B
7. Tommy La Stella (L) 3B
8. Steven Duggar (L) CF
9. Kevin Gausman (L) P
LaStella back. Not sure who they optioned.
Apparently they optioned Bryant…
he’s probably back in SF meeting the moving van with his wife lqtm
Hopefully, he can round up a couple of teammates to help carry in the furniture…
Disco to the 10 day injured list. Phantom injury?
I think him and Gauze have dead arms…
agreed. McGoo and Rogers might not be far behind.
Disco to IL, Menes designated. That’s at least a little surprising, he showed some promise earlier in the season
Kap called the Disco move “a freshening”
Why not just spray some Cruex on his nuts?
sounds old school, I like it
Lulz 😂
Menez did pitch pretty well, a bit of a surprise but was getting lit up to a tune of 6.75 at Sac.Maybe the Giants feel they have better arms down there are coming up thru the system they like better. They probably also think with his struggles teams will pass on him and he would be back.Don’t think that will be the case this time. He’s better then a useless Tauchman, who sadly returns..
Wonder who gets T-Bone’s next start? Openers? Anybody but Sanchez..
LMAO…
What’s good old Black Shoes Beede up to these days?
Ask his wife, she apparently controls everything.
If she were in charge of his pitching, he’d probably be throwing strikes…

Gabe Kapler said the expectation is that Anthony DeSclafani will only miss one start. Aaron Sanchez will be a candidate to make a spot start in the interim.
Kat, from Baggs: Aaron Sanchez will be a candidate to make a spot start, Kapler said.
I think “freshening” Disco is a darn good idea. Maybe Gausman, too, with maybe a changed approach on how he uses and sequences his split finger pitch.
The Doghairs were doing fake IL stints for starters a lot a few years ago, if I”m not “misremembering”; IDK if they still do.
Give the guy’s arm a rest, come back ready to rock and roll…
And, WTF is Bryant not starting?
He’s exhausted already?…
Whatever happened to the trainer always spraying that cold chemical spray on injuries — like a batted ball to the shin? I think football players got that, too. Ethyl chloride or something. Must have turned out to cause prostate cancer or something…
From Ball Four, Snarkk…
https://tinyurl.com/3jwwfu49
funny stuff…
Who’s this guy batting 2nd?
I don’t know but he seems to have a good eye..
Krukow:I think every starting pitcher should take a 10 day leave off during a season!
Those are fighting words in the old days, Marichal would of taken a bat to your skull 💀
Couldn’t even fathom what Gibson would of done to you as well..
Dick’s magic is just no more. No more lightning in the bottle. 2 years ago he woulda crushed that pitch
Sorry to say the inconsistency of the Grave Duggar is really frustrating…
now you’re joining the *1 eye open when sleeping* crowd?
I never miss a Grave Duggar AB, but he’s so up and down, it makes me nuts…
Over/Under on Gauzepad 1st inning pitches: 19.5
Place your bets…
OVER
i always think it’s funny they send these cam crews to random places to get a photo of some shit like a cactus with a sun setting behind it. Or is that just a web cam? I bet it’s a couple dudes who drove around for a while before finding that one spot to cam
I didn’t see what you saw, and IDK if you’ve been to Phoenix, but there are Saguaro “cacti” all over the place. You could set up a camera in a strip mall that has a Saguaro next to it in a field, or somebody’s front yard, and shoot a shot that looks like you just hiked 50 miles out into the Sonoran desert to get that shot…
Just a couple dudes that are real pricks when it comes to a cactus 🌵
Needles won the 1956 Kentucky Derby…
Grave Duggar bumming me out with the swing and misses but I like living and sleeping with 2 eyes shut, I’ll never disparage him…..
Amy G just barely hanging on with her mid inning spots.
Like the Sunday Funday millenniums, just stupid. They offer nothing, my as well let the Red Rhino 🦏 take it over..
The last thing Amy broke was her water…
Our 2 fastest guys are batting 7th & 8th…
Love that Kruk’s old ass has finally come around on the DH. Pitchers can’t do anything with a bat anymore, end this nonsense.
Tell it to Chi…
If Estrada’s so fast why don’t they let him steal a bag?
Buster was wagging his bat behind his shoulder like the olden days in the last AB.
Look at that, the D-Backs pitcher can get down a bunt.
this is the weirdest fucking ad. The Dick is on the verge of tears about his old man and 2 seconds later he’s celebrating a sando….
See?!? Gramps does it right. Meat. Cheese. Nothing else.
Gasman absolutely needs to help himself there. He got thru the 1st tho. I’ll give him that.
Donnie Rebarrels!
Solano solo!
Way down across the ocean…
Good one.
…….below……..
You right…
a merman I should turn to be
Giants no doubt would have the most DH candidates in all of baseball.
But for my money it would be Barrels full time gig.
He would turn into the modern day Edgar Martinez with 4 quality AB’s a night..
uh,he doesn’t have 1/10th of his power
Doesn’t matter he would hit for the same average, others can supply the power, he’s a doubles machine..
Edgar is another joke HOFer…
Agree
And now Gausman no longer pinches the bill of his cap before every pitch.
2 great observations by you tonight, Xoot.
You’d think our broadcasters might notice…
Gasman hitting 96.
Nothing wrong with Gausman’s mechanics tonight.62 pitches thru 5 .. 2 hits 7K’s he’s dealing gas, and some crazy stuff that’s filthy..
hey, as I said, Estes said it was a simple fix
Guess they never had a simple fix for Tauchman..
Buster more upright that AB
Liked that Miller&Krukow both gave high marks in the 1st game of the series about Dale Murphy and how dominant a player he was in the 80’s.They both absolutely agree he should be in the HOF..
Apropos of nothing: Watching Yaz run, he sorts of lopes. It reminded me of someone, couldn’t place it, then I remembered Robin Yount. He always looked like he was loping. Like, anteloping… I always thought he should’ve switched names with Rob Deer…..
Barrels clutch again!
Always count on GD to kill an inning off..
Not a particularly good omen that the top 2 starters have tired arms. August is always a grind, and September is ramp it up time. I’d kind of hoped they’d pick up another good starter at the deadline. Hope they’ll be ok going down the stretch…
Grave Duggar:
June 27:
BA: .325
OPS: .974
Right now:
BA: .270
OPS: .790
Steal 2nd base it’s the backup catcher ferchrissakes..
Wade starts a 2-out rally!
Buster is hitting well this season, but he’s only got 35 RBIs in early August. At this rate, no way he’s going to have enough RBIs by career end in a few year to realistically have a HOF chance. But, the HOF is a joke now anyway, so what do I know?…
Wow, the Dick stiffens again, for 3 runs this time !…
Dick in a bandbox!
A Dickcheesesteak special, just cheese and steak 🥩!!!
Fromunda cheese.
Donnie coming back strong
What I really like about their manager Torvello he always lets his pitchers get hammered with nobody warming up..
7-1 lead.
Hmmmm, sounds good, except that score seems weirdly and menacingly familiar…
Wow. Jast realized I’m an inning behind
Fun with bikasoer
