Stretch Run Stud
If you didn’t know, now ya know. Kris Bryant is the anchor we needed for this stretch run. And with the Dodgers now in full flight to the wire he is a pick up we desperately needed.
Mac Dog’s vacation continues it’s upward swing, he sent me these photos from the game yesterday. Thanks for the content, my man!

That last pic:
Sittin’ on the dock of the Bay
Watching the lead grow today. . . .
I think the Watson get is nearly as big.
Big but no way it is anywhere close to Bryant. And he is absolutely the highest priority to get signed long-term, IMO.
Yes Kris Bryant will be pivotal for the Giants continued success down the stretch!
And Kris Bryant knows he’s in the drivers seat come off season for his first crack as
a F/A.Its going to take off the charts dinero to get him signed, but he’s for sure the Giants
Top concern to get him signed. They have plenty of money better then most teams cap wise
he likes the team, he likes the city, give him the keys and a place in Pacific Heights are that area by the
Golden Gate
where Robin Williams use to live.
Zman and team I trust to get this one done, even if they have to bring out the all mighty
“Cone of Silence “ out of retirement to seal the deal.He will probably want 5 years I would prefer 4 with an option
Bidding starts at 4 years 160 million? might be to low with a player that play 9 positions if needed..
Moves I would make are: sign Posey now. 2 year deal. Nothing for Belt. Trade Longo for anything, work on Bryant hard in the off-season.
Sign Wood to a deal, we’re stuck with Cueto, Webb is signed, let Gasman go, Offer DeScaffolding something decent. I just don’t buy Gasman reaching even his success pre all star break. Farnham can find another reclamation pitcher project in the cushions of his couch.
Nice photos, Mac. My brick is just a couple rows behind you at the statue.
Hope you’re having a blast.
Agree that Bryant was the perfect guy to go out and get and I also agree with Unca about Watson, we needed that arm in the pen.
A pleasant night at the ballpark, and I mean that temp-wise too. I could’ve worn shorts and been ok. What a great experience to see Bryant and Belt launch no-doubt bombs and celebrate with fellow Giants fans. Craw too with his triple to cap another great game at the plate. It is concerning that Gaus barely got thru 5. Alvarez got the 2 biggest outs vs the lefties, and thank god Rodgers got it together and avoided a match up vs. Alonso with 2 runners on base. Flav, I hope you noticed who’s on the scoreboard in the first picture. We had garlic fries before the game, we were underwhelmed because they weren’t hot, or even warm! Also went to the Dugout store after the game, I’m not a big merch guy but wasn’t impressed. My buddy was hoping to get a t-shirt with Mays or Flores, but they had nothing like that. Outside of Posey, Craw and Yaz you wouldn’t know who else is on the team walking thru the store. Alright, back at it tonite for one more game.
My sightseeing yesterday. Took the cable car to the (gasp!) Fisherman’s Wharf area. From there I rented a bike and rode to the GG Bridge and back. A bit challenging on the way out, but a breeze coming back and it’s a great way to take in all the views. Also some nice non-city views along Marina, haha. I also had the chowder in sourdough bowl, yeah I know that’s a touristy thing, but fuck it, I’m a tourist.
That’s awesome you are getting a bunch of games in. Didn’t even know the cable cars were running again. If you get a chance, go back along the Marina and get an Irish coffee at the Buena Vista. Most excellent. Spent some time out there in the crazy old days, and it was the best hangover cure known to man. A lot of tourists, but a lot of locals as well cuz they are great. A lot of the old haunts have gone away, but they are going strong.
Thanx Unca. We may be back that way today, I’m not a coffee guy, but I’ll tell my buddy about it.
All about the whiskey!
Moves I would make:
1) First and foremost…do everything in my power to sign KB to a long-term
2) Tear-up Posey’s year left and do a two-year deal
The rest is subjective. I disagree with Charlie on trading Longo. For what you would get in return…no bueno for me.
Big concern right now is that outside of Webb, none of our starters are getting past the 5th inning…
Yeah, it’s definitely troubling always having to go to the ‘pen by the 6th. Webb has come close to getting thru 7 a couple times, hope he’s on tonite since Stroman is probably Mets’ best pitcher of late.
Yep. With ya on that. Gasman esp is not doing well these days. He’s been struggling just to get to the 5th. Wood seems to be going decently and can get through 6. The benchmark apparently these days.
Gausman seems outta gaus.
I wonder if the sticky prohibition is biting him.
He seems to still have velocity, but the control seems off, and he throws too many damn pitches.
None of these SF starters seem to be able to consistently go 6, let alone 7. Webb looks like he’s starting to get the rhythm to do that.
I’m concerned that at some point the Pen will be full of guys that need a cart to lay their arm on when they walk from the Pen to the mound…
I just think that between Flores, Bryant, and Estrada, we have 3rd base covered fine. Longo is hurt too much. I hope he proves me wrong and rakes for the rest of the year AND stays on the field, I just see him as Belt 2.0. Solid when he plays, he just doesn’t play enough.
Mac –
If you’re in North Beach, check out Trattoria Contadina, just up from Columbus at Union/Mason. Just off the tourist track on Columbus; very good kinda old style Italian food in there. The old style minestrone is very good. Haven’t been in there for a few years, but it’s always been good whenever I dropped in, and the internet says it’s still there and open. Don’t know about outdoor seating, though.
Also, a really cool little pastry shop for an Italian pastry and a coffee is on Columbus, it’s Stella Luna…
Thanx Snarkk. Hmm, we might get out that way, sounds tempting.
if you’re on Columbus, night or day, you might want to drop just below Broadway to City Lights Bookstore, one of the best, and then grab a drink at the bar next door.
Xoot, good chance we’ll go there, we were there yesterday but before noon they weren’t open yet.
Vesuvio’s is the bar . . .
Buying a good book and heading to Vesuvio’s is always a good time. You can sit upstairs and watch people come and go. I once saw a huge European tour disembark from a bus, gather for a group photo at the front door of City Lights, then immediately climb back aboard to head on down the hill. Not one of them went into the bookstore. The Zapatista-themed mural in the alley is very cool, too.
We just passed it on the cable car on Mason, it’s closed right now, haha.
Not sure where you’re staying, but if y’all are still doing the cable cars, grab the California line to the end on Van Ness, walk up a few blocks to the House of Meat (House of Prime Rib), a great old school prime rib joint. Pro tip: If you’re still hungry after eating your selected cut, they’ll give you more if you ask.
I’m not as worried about Gausman as some are, he went thru a difficult time with his wife’s recent birth and mentally that had to take a huge strain/toll on him.He still sitting at 12-5 ( staff leader)which any pitcher would love, and he still has 2 of the top pitches going in baseball. He’s struck out 169 batters in 142 innings, his most ever was 179 but in 186 innings, he will easily pass that. His stuff is nasty it’s just a few tweaks in mechanics and like every club were in the dog days of summer when teams are scaling back And monitoring there pitchers more. But I see him getting thru 7 and that would be fine for now..
Agree Kat. Not concerned and I would definitely make a run at signing him…
We have to keep Bryant in a Giants uni his attitude and spirit are almost as important as his hits and glove. It looks like everyone is feeding off the other and that is just gonna make everyone better. I think Gausman is a driving force for this team also and deserves consideration for next year. By then we get some of our younger arms up here that might let us give Gaus a break here and there. When he is on he’s really tough.
If they want to keep Bryant, they will need to fill a wheelbarrow full of more cash than 29 other teams are willing to give. That’s the way Boras and his clients roll. It doesn’t matter how good the clubhouse chemistry is or if Walnut Creek is a darn nice place to raise a family.
I hope I am dead wrong, but I don’t see us keeping him. Certainly nice to have him now though and maybe he can contribute to something special in this short stint.
Some great city recco’s for Mac on here. I was at Vesuvio’s not too long ago having a few with my brother.
I will also throw out il Pollaio in North Beach, for great flame grilled chicken, or a burger, or rabbitt! Funky little triangle shaped place.
I wonder what percentage of English speaking people think the word is “wheelbarrel”…
I get San Dog’s meaning, but who’s the real competition?
Mets? Dodgers?
Bums are not in a great position to add a player that will require the kinds of cash that KB will get. They could do as they always do and overspend and pay the penalty. Fuck them…
I think you can also rule out Yanks, Bosox, Cards, Braves, Angels plus the usual non-participants.
We got a real good shot at him…
‘Dog, the teams in the running are the usuals. Boston, Yanks, Giants, Dodgers, Cubs of course, maybe the B-Jays, maybe the Mets.
All those teams spend like sailors on shore leave. They are all in the hunt.
Thanx for all the recommendations, we ended up eating at a Mexican place on Chestnut. It was pretty good, though they were a little slow with our drinks.
Tacolicious? A name that matches its reputation as a gringo faux mex place with gourmet pretensions. The tacos are pretty damn good, though, at least they were a few years ago when I was last there.
Hey James, pretty sure that wasn’t the place.
Well Yaz is #8 tonight anyway…
1. LaMonte Wade Jr (L) RF
2. Tommy La Stella (L) 2B
3. Buster Posey (R) C
4. Brandon Belt (L) 1B
5. Kris Bryant (R) LF
6. Brandon Crawford (L) SS
7. Evan Longoria (R) 3B
8. Mike Yastrzemski (L) CF
9. Logan Webb (R) P
Bryant got scratched.
Damn. Dick now in LF batting 8th, Yaz up to 7th.

When I razzed my brother, a lifetime Mets fan, about how pleased I was getting Bryant instead of Baez, he texted back “the hamstring will give out.”
The Merc says “hamstring tightness” – it didn’t give out. Why are you scaring people?
Also optioned Jackson and activated Chatwood…
The exchange with him was right after the trade deadline, not today — sorry that wasn’t clear. He was just trying to rain on my parade because he knew we got the better player.
It was my brother, a dirty Mets fan, not me! I had no choice but to report it . . . .
Rotten hamstring? of course.
Dick suck dick
Beede put on the 60 DL ending his season.
He was getting hammered anyway in the minors, time to just cut him, black shoes is just another Shaun Anderson, Dereck Rodriguez with no future left..
Arm troubles from the TJ surgery?
Yeah, unfortunately it looks like he’s done.
A total bust of a #1 draft pick…
Where the fuck are the fans?
Looks like 15,000 to me…
Awesome slider to fan Alonso!
Webb & Craw bail out dumbfuck Longo….
Craw still has the glove. Nice play.
John, your bike ride out to the bridge and back brought back memories: Back when Crissy Field still had the old airfield landing strip (now a naturalized park near the bridge), I’d ride my bike out from the Marina toward the bridge against that wind… man, my thighs would be burning by the time I’d get near Ft. Point. Then I’d turn the bike around, point it east, and just fly back down the landing strip with the wind at my back. Sometimes the speed felt dangerous and I figured I’d die if I even slightly twitched the handlebars, but it was too fun to stop. Hated to see that landing strip go, but it is a great park now. So great you’re enjoying your time there.
Lots of great resto recommendations from Flappers. I had some favorites, but if you’re looking for a good dive bar or three, I’m your man. Have fun!
Yeah Paul, between the wind and those hills, that was a tough ride out. I couldn’t really cut loose on the way back downhill, too many pedestrians in the way.
Routine fly ball is OUTTA HERE!!!
Another Giant with double digits HR’s
As Longoria joins the club.
Webb continues his mastery of pitching, let him go the distance!
Ease his pain…
Longo adding on! Webb is a bad ass. He reminds me of Cain. Kid is a bulldog…
The kid can pitch.
So what if he looks like a half sucked lollipop…
lulz
Can’t say I didn’t see that coming.
Of course Kap shouldn’t wait too long to get someone up in the bullpen. Managing pitchers, you gotta be an Einstein!
Sucks they had to pull Webb there, 1 mistake to Alonso is all it takes.
An MLB writer Jason C ? said Logan Webb’s emergence as a solid starter and a homegrown product has been one of the keys among others that have helped key the Giants incredible run to the best team in baseball..
His stuff is some of the best going in baseball right now..
Even if he is a “squint-faced crab.” 😉
The fan that ran on the field last night is warming up in the bullpen…
I don’t think it was Stroman pitching Buster like no one else before …
4 K’s for Buster. A 1st ever?
Come one. 3 more outs!
Then again
Fuck yeah…love me some Scarlet Begonias…
And with MTM…oh yeah…I knew right away she was not like other girls…other girls…
Hah!
Think Webb still looks like a squint face Crab..
YES!!!!
Less than 2:30.
Spaghetti western Leone gets the save!
That will make Clint Eastwood going with his bad ass nod!!
In a tidy 2:27!
Another call from Stix. I described the late innings for him. We were both hoping for a Webb shutout.
He’s out of the hospital and housesitting in the country, recuperating. His friends are doing their best to fix him up with rehab and PT and a secure place for the winter. An Amish clan “two forties over” has fired up a sawmill that disturbs the bucolic serenity a bit during daylight hours, but overall things are good.
Tell him I said howdy. And can you share that number again? I really want to call the man…
I was expecting the last line of your post to be “And now ya tell me Billie Joe’s jumped off the Tallahatchie Bridge”…
Ran into Webb’s mother, grandmother and other family members outside the park just now. They were beaming.
That is fucking bad ass!
Nice win. Your friend must be going nuts…
He’s now resigned to another lost season.
Is that where he gets his looks from?
My daughter and her husband had to evacuate this afternoon (as did my ex – we are still good friends). Keep them in your thoughts. I hope they (and all of the other evacuees) have a home to come back to. Blessings to the firefighters and first responders, too.
Gail and I have our fire boxes, go bags with clothes and essentials loaded, and crates in the vehicles for the dogs loaded and I have my truck hitched-up to my truck. Ready to roll if we get the notice to evacuate.
Crazy, scary shit.
Aren’t you somewhere up there off of 50, Chi?
Is there a fire up in there now – on the CalFire website I see something called Caldor fire up there by Grizzly Flats…
Yes. Only about seven miles from where my daughter lives. And yes, this is the Caldor fire. Incredible how fast this thing is growing and moving.
Holy hell, literally. That’s scary shit, stay safe Chi.
That awesome MacDog! You’ve only been here a few days and you’re already a celebrity getting the scoops!
Hitting up cable cars, bike ride to the Golden Gate Bridge 🌉 , restaurants/bar scene, fisherman’s wharf with a clam chowder bread bowl special!! Glad your enjoying your stay! Maybe a trip over to the pacific coast? Half Moon Bay, Princeton área both fun spots with killer food places!
MacDog lives the right way.
I’d probably be hanging out with the homeless shitting in the street…
💩💩💩It does keep the street sweepers on top of they’re shit atleast..
To me, Webb looks like that laconic, young soulless murderer Todd — on Breaking Bad —
https://breakingbad.fandom.com/wiki/Todd_Alquist
Yeah, and even more so than in BB, Webb has the El Camino Todd-look going….
Damn! 36 over .500 and they’ve won their last seven series! Boom!
I forgot to mention this, I’m pretty sure I saw Alonso while out and about this morning. I was walking down Powell toward Market, and he was walking up Powell. He was walking very fast, and by the time I processed all this, he was likely out of earshot, so I just kept going.
Oh man, I saw A’s pitcher Bassitt get hit in the face by a line drive on the news sports report, hope the guy is ok.
