A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Worst Loss of The Year?

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on August 19, 2021

Getting done by 1.0 like that was….predictable.

Just an absolutely awful game made worse by the terrible Greenwald on the radio. I finally had to start watching it on tv and Miller made that a little better. But then Longo failed as well as everyone else.

Look, LA is coming. Hard.

Blade: I just saw on FB that you’ve evacuated. What fire are you threatened by? Holding good thoughts for you, my man.

Blade is threatened by the same fire, the Caldor fire, that threatens Gail and me. We have not received evacuation orders yet, but my daughter and ex did a couple of days ago.

  2. chipower9 said, on August 19, 2021 at 6:56 am

Yeah, after we failed to score with a runner on 3rd and less than two outs, the handwriting was on the wall. The positive? We still won the series. Seven in a row now.

    • djloo27 said, on August 19, 2021 at 7:29 am

Unbelievable and sad what you folks out there are dealing with.
Hard for people back here to grasp.
Hoping for the best for all you guys impacted by these fires…

      • chipower9 said, on August 19, 2021 at 7:49 am

Thanks, Loo. Much appreciated. It is hard to grasp the absolute swift and powerful destruction of the wild fires.

  3. Flavor said, on August 19, 2021 at 7:40 am

Chi (and blade). Does climate change effect your decision to want to continue living in these yearly threatening conditions? I used to see myself moving up to central Oregon one day but now I don’t see it happening. Fire danger too serious.

    • chipower9 said, on August 19, 2021 at 7:53 am

Well, climate change is always a concern for me, and I firmly believe it is a primary contributor to the carzy weather we are seeing across the globe (drought, wildfires, floods, etc.). Gail has mentioned that she has thought about moving. She mentioned a small town near Portland.

Both my kids and my grand daughter are local, so it would be tough for me to move elsewhere.

we gotta get some gold today so I can change out the aged POTD

  5. alleykat69 said, on August 19, 2021 at 8:44 am

I was finally able to get a text thru to my friend Howard( golf club buddy)who has a house on Lake Almanor where the Dixie fire was raging thru along with completely destroying the small town of Greenville. He said he had to evacuate 2 weeks ago with his wife to Reno to stay with friends. He said they got the word that they’re letting people back in but he’s giving it another week he’s just so depressed and devastated not knowing for sure if his dream retirement place is still there. He and his wife just moved up there 2 years ago from the Bay Area (Belmont). The Dixie fire is reported up to 663,000 acres burned and is reported now has stretched from the Northern tip of Nevada to the Eastern floor…

Hey Kat, didn’t see your post til late. We’re going to Mets-Bums tonite at the Lateine, that’s the only game for us here. We got here yesterday while Giants were blowing the game,, then roamed around Venice Beach and got something to eat there. We head back east tomorrow.

Out of curiosity, what is with all the Doug Greenwald hate? I rarely listen to him but just happened to hear his call of La Stella’s game tying hit in the 11th and it brought back memories of his dads infamous call of The Thrill’s clutch RBI hit off Mitch Williams in the 89 NLCS. Ok, so maybe I am exaggerating a bit, but I do enjoy hearing him because it brings back so many memories of his dad, who will always be my GOAT.

    • Flavor said, on August 19, 2021 at 9:15 am

I was down with Greenwald (dad) but his son just has a voice that grates. I literally can’t listen to him. When he gets excited he sounds a little like his dad but the moment to moment stuff sounds like him broadcasting from SpongeBob’s 🍍

    • chipower9 said, on August 19, 2021 at 11:03 am

I just do not like his voice or delivery. He and Randy Winn as a team are damned near unlistenable to me.

  7. Bozo said, on August 19, 2021 at 10:18 am

My least favorite of all our sportscasters has to be Ted Robinson. He would get excited as a Chihuahua on speed for anything and everything. I’d be out of the room doing something and hear him going nuts only to find out the other team hit a home run to take the lead, or maybe he just caught sight of the banjo guy and bubbled over as he shared that.
Just the thought of that guy still makes me cringe.

    • unca_chuck said, on August 19, 2021 at 10:52 am

That’s about how I feel about Greg Papa, Bozo. He’s an annoying piece of shit and it really bums me out he’s the 49ers radio announcer now. He tries way too fucking hard. “TOUCHDOWN San FRANcisceeeew!” Hideous.

Spits on the memory of every announcer before him from Bob Fouts to Lon Simmons to Wayne Walker and the “Tocuhdown 49ers!” call. Fucking lame.

      • Bozo said, on August 19, 2021 at 10:55 am

Wasn’t Ted doing some 9er games as well?

      • unca_chuck said, on August 19, 2021 at 11:01 am

Yeah, and he was worse than Starkey, but I didn’t really like Starkey that much either. Robinson was OK when he did the Niners. Much better football guy than baseball.

  8. unca_chuck said, on August 19, 2021 at 10:58 am

Chuck, when we drove down from Seattle last year, we drove through Astoria and Cannon Beach in northern Oregon and loved it there. Since 2 of our kids are in Montana, hey we can go anywhere.

We were in Montana last weekend, and it was smoky as hell there as well. Really sad. Went through Yellowstone and drove to the Grand Tetons, and the smoke was so thick you could barely see the mountains.

The phrase ‘future generations’ is losing its meaning. We are looking at a Soylent Green scenario. The timeframe is that movie is eerily spot-on. it puts the oceans starting to die around 2015, and the food supply getting scarce around 2023.

  9. chipower9 said, on August 19, 2021 at 11:06 am

In regards to Flavor’s 7:59 (need of new gold for POTD), and in reference to James’ current POTD…what makes a mane a “redneck mane?” (but the way he strokes his idiotic Central Valley redneck mane after every pitch is laughable.)

Just curious. I have a “mane” (have not cut my hair since Feb. 2020).

  10. unca_chuck said, on August 19, 2021 at 11:07 am

Got a cousin with a house on Lake Almanor. Hopefully it is still there. Need to call him.

Flav, I know about 10 people who have recently moved to Bend. Seems to be the place to go.

    • Flavor said, on August 19, 2021 at 3:07 pm

my sister lives there. Eh, it’s ok.

  11. chipower9 said, on August 19, 2021 at 11:08 am

Charlie – Gail knows a dog agility friend who moved to Tualatin, Oregon (south of Portland) and we kind of looked at that. When I looked at the yearly weather breakdown…it is gray and rainy there quite often. I don’t do gray and rainy for a majority of the year very well.

    • Flavor said, on August 19, 2021 at 3:07 pm

i lived in Portland for 3 years. The winter’s are just not doable. Everyone is depressed for months and it’s all weather related.

      • unca_chuck said, on August 19, 2021 at 5:01 pm

It’s different now. I have another cousin who has been in Seattle for 25 years, and she says the winters aren’t nearly as long or harsh as they were in the 90s.

I could live on the coast out there. Cannon Beach is the spitting image of Morro Bay

  12. willedav said, on August 19, 2021 at 11:31 am

Worst L? no. They’ve won 9 of 12, 13-5 this month and still lead NL in bombs, including some recently from guys who got F Bombs yesterday. Emergency pen game shut Mets down til 9th.
Giants have 78 Ws on season…exactly equal to what I predicted they would have at end of same. So next one puts everything else after it in category of gravy.

  13. chipower9 said, on August 19, 2021 at 12:36 pm

Yesterday’s loss as the worst of the year? Nope.

Worst loss would need to be with someone in-division, IMO. So, take any of the losses to the bums, especially any that we lost late when we were on the verge of the win. Those would qualify as the worst to me.

    • alleykat69 said, on August 19, 2021 at 5:38 pm

Agree Chi.No way close to the worst loss!
Any Dogpile loss is the worst loss ever!
Those ones cut deep into my heart&soul forever!

  14. unca_chuck said, on August 19, 2021 at 1:03 pm

A loss is a loss. Losing to the Dodgers will always be worse than something like this. It sucks that we had numerous chances to put it away, but, for a pen game of 7.1 innings, it was pretty solid. Joy Fuckwood can go back to Sacto and lament his failings. I am worries about Moronta as I thought he’d be back by now.

I’ll say one thing, it is pretty alarming that for all the injuries on the Dodgers, they haven’t faded one damn bit. They are still right on our heels. Sure, we have had our share as well, but I’d love to see the lead get up around 5 games.

  15. unca_chuck said, on August 19, 2021 at 1:08 pm

Last piece of news on Moronta I can find is his rehab assignment on July 21st. Nearly a month ago.

    • djloo27 said, on August 19, 2021 at 1:29 pm

I think Moronta and the Panda re-hab at Taco Bell…

    • chipower9 said, on August 19, 2021 at 1:45 pm

Agree. WTF happened? I cannot find any stats for him in Sac.

    • willedav said, on August 19, 2021 at 4:01 pm

He pitched recently gave up couple hits and Arun in 2/3 of an inning. Very mixed results in AAA. And other than Kazmir, isn’t anyone else besides Doval down there either. I watched Doval walk bases loaded and blow a save too.

  16. alleykat69 said, on August 19, 2021 at 1:41 pm

Chatwood=Firewood ready to consistently get burned!
And Chatwalk has those issues as well with his control.
I can’t argue to much with their moves, but sometimes these guys really are cut from other team’s because they do suck and Z probably feels, hey he’s a vet with experience, so u hit and miss attitude, this ones a miss.He sure doesn’t mind messing with the pen at anytime, but I hope this will be a very short stay with this dude.Jackson could give you better overall production..

  17. chipower9 said, on August 19, 2021 at 1:49 pm

My two favorite teams…The Giants and whoever is playing the bums. Go Mets! Bring us a win, Mac!

Walker going for the Mets vs. the infamous TBD…

      Tyne B Daly?

      • unca_chuck said, on August 19, 2021 at 5:01 pm

Never liked Gag Me and Lay Me, but Tyne was great in the Enforcer.

The flasher at the end is a nice touch.

      • alleykat69 said, on August 19, 2021 at 5:23 pm

She was great in the Enforcer, it’s all about the penetration..

    • snarkk said, on August 19, 2021 at 7:02 pm

He won a skirmish here, but I think he’s going to lose the battle to play, for a while.
Media uncovered a woman in Cincy that over a year ago claimed essentially the same violence.
      If there’s two, there’s a chance there’s more.
IMO, there’s no way the Doghairs ever bring this dude back, and they’ll try to void his contract, which will start a litigation war because they owe him around $84 million…

$20 million left for 2021 to be paid on 11/30/21 for this 2021 year
      $32 million in 2022
      $32 million in 2023

    Damn good catcher…

    • alleykat69 said, on August 19, 2021 at 5:19 pm

Sure was Loo.. I’m sad to hear of the loss of Bill Freehan RIP Bill..He was the unsung glue of that team.Terrific catcher who made a terrific play when Lou Brock tried to score standing up on a throw from LF Willie Horton and Freehan totally blocked off Brock from reaching home plate, a huge momentum series changer!
I just loved that team, with some of the unsung guys like McAulliffe,Northrup,Oyster? Stanley, and my favorite Gates “2 hotdogs shoved in my jersey Brown the part time outfielder but the most lethal of pinch hitters that year!

  19. willedav said, on August 19, 2021 at 4:30 pm

Sac hasn’t played in couple days due to rainout but here are Moronta’s totals there per B/R:
    10 games 8 innings 6 hits 3 runs 8 BBs 7 Ks. WHIP is 1.75.

    • unca_chuck said, on August 19, 2021 at 4:51 pm

Ouch. Well, Moronta may need to find his mojo here. Fucking Shitwood ain’t cutting it.

  20. alleykat69 said, on August 19, 2021 at 4:55 pm

Chatwood would be better off In Deadwood..

In enemy territory at the Latrine. Just had a Dodger dog, it was meh. Got nice views here though. Also a Kershaw shirt giveaway, I’ll gladly entertain suggestions what to do with it. Wish me and the Mets luck.

    • snarkk said, on August 19, 2021 at 7:03 pm

RU sportin’ any Giants gear — if yes, RU getting hassled?
Watch out after the game as you walk out and through the parking lot.
For tonight, go Mets ! …

  22. mrsprtdude said, on August 19, 2021 at 7:46 pm

No SF gear at the latrine. You get hassled a LOT. If in lower deck its ok. Middle and upper I’ve had food thrown at me. 3-4 idiots each game eyeballing you trying fight. Full beer bottle thrown at my head in the parking lot.

Strange times around the world and around Flap Universe these days, in so many ways. Ya’ll in the fire zones, take care of you and yours. Geez, there you are, some must leave their homes, and here I am, under lockdown and curfew and can’t leave my home… WTF. Never thought 2021 would be worse than 2020. And yet, there are the Giants atop the baseball world. Ok, time to open another can of baked beans for breakfast…

  26. zumiee said, on August 19, 2021 at 10:36 pm

Some teams are so futile against the Dodgers, it’s sad. The Giants generally play the Dodgers tough, but it’s frustrating watching so many other teams look hopeless against the Dodgers.

    • snarkk said, on August 20, 2021 at 8:30 am

There are 13 teams in MLB that are under .500.
Lots of bad ball out there…
