KAPitalizing On Opportunities
I woke up wondering what Kap will be right about today. Everything? It’s a lot easier to push the right buttons when you’ve got literally every match up in your favor as the game wears on. A lot of that credit goes to Z and how he built the team.
Mac I forget are you going to these games? Loo wasn’t something threatening your trip?
Roll up your sleeves, every game is big from here on out.
Well sometimes he outtoxes himself. Especially while Belt and LaStella were out, he’d make a PH move in middle innings, maybe subbing LHs in for RHs who had started game vs. LHP who had been replaced. Then he’d wind up with same handed match ups once other team changed relievers again. Unavoidable, but since SPs rarely go very long any more, and even pen guys don’t throw more than an inning at a time, he still wound up with same handed ABs for platoon guys–Estrada/Solano Ruf Slater, or GD Tauchman and Wade.
And remember, Wade was like 0-30 vs. LHP at one point, and Slater’s primary value as hitter is vs. LHP only.
I know we’ve mentioned “Earl Weaver special” 3 run bombs with this team a lot, but those old O’s teams he had great platoon options in OF, where he could bring guys in off bench with power like Lowenstein or Roenicke late game.
HUGE stretch coming up. 16 games without a day off. After the Mets we get three with Atlanta, who had won 9 in a row going into last night (Yanks cooled them off – Yanks now have won 10 straight).
Then we have four with the Brewers at home followed by a weekend series at home against the bums, followed by three on the road in the Box of Rox.
Bums start a three game set with the Friars tonight. Go SD!
can you imagine the pussies of today doing this?
Nope. Today = immediate trip to the 10 day IL…
Flav, I won’t be gonig to any of the games this week. I was hoping to go Thursday when Loo’s there, but I can’t make it. A bummer, but it’s okay, I got my Giants and Flap fix last week.
Rolling Stones drummer Charlie Watts has died at 80..RIP Charlie 🥁
Oh damn. Keith is gonna be very sad.
I’d miss A’s if they left. Giants fans helped their crowds surge to 35-40 thou all weekend, and then there were 4100 in attendance last night vs. M’s as Trivino blew another save op.
I like having the A’s in the Bay Area and hope they can stay. Will be weird if they leave.
Watts had been sick and they had another drummer set for the upcoming tour. RIP, Charlie Watts.
Gotta keep that money machine rolling…
Dusty Hill and now this.
Damn, sad to hear about Charlie Watts.
Watts was one of my all time favorite drummers, he was really good. Sad day indeed RIP.
I still hope they move to Vegas. I used to average around 10/15 games a year at the Coliseum but that was a long time ago and imo they are just a hindrance now. Sorry for some old friends who are A’s fans but I think this ownership has set this whole thing up.
Sure, agree ownership is problem. Wonder what take was by Giants fans who went there over weekend. Park amenities imo are overrated–just go to watch a ballgame myself. Gad, btw howling wind at day games by afternoon, freezing night games and trying to get in/out of the Stick with big crowd, joint was pain. Games themselves though, wonderful.
Yeah, I was going through some old boxes and found a few Croix De Candlestick buttons. I think I was just as cold at some day game as I was at night games. I knew to take a jacket for the night games.
Stick was brutal in night games, you could leave from the peninsula in sunny weather at 5:00 in 80 degrees weather and the time you got in the park it was 60 and the fog was rolling in from Pacifica dropping the temp even more! ( hence the crux de Candlestick button for the true gamers)
Then never a comfortable feeling leaving the back way out thru lovely Hunters Point with potential gun fire in the air.Windows up, doors locked, have has a must, and just gun it out there as quick as you can!!
I have two Croix pins. The coldest game I attended at the Stick was a day game (double header) with the Cubs. We were under the overhang on the first base side. Between innings everyone would scamper down into the sunlight and try to get warm.
I couldn’t check in yesterday I was having a birthday 🥳 bash as I hit the senior discounts and Medicare lol at 65!!
Was busy between partying doing are Football Fantasy Draft!! 1:30 on the clock between picks gets somewhat stressful as the computer voice says 10 seconds left are you get an auto draft highest rated pick( good are bad)
I’m feeling pretty good about my teams pick though..QB Josh Allen WR Stephon Diggs &Calvin Ridley( flex options DJ Moore , OJ Beckham, Javonte Smith, Courtland Sutton. RB’s Aaron Jones, JK Dobbins( flex options James Robinson who now with the season injury to Etteite (sp) sad for him but good for me, could be moving into my starting LU and was a stud last year.Alexander Mattison another good stash if Dalvin Cook gets banged up)TE..Noah Fant & Irv Smith jr, DST Washington Kicker Jason Meyer..
Team name Diggs in a Blanket..
Nice, your gonna win some games.
Congrats on making it to 65.
Thanks Winder!
Happy Birthday AK, hope it was a great one
HBD, Kat. You need to make it to one of the future Flapaloozas…
Happy happy, AK! As they say, it beats the alternative.
Kat — Happy BDay !
I’m heading up behind ya’ — 64 in Oct, and want a WS appearance from the Gyros as a nice BDay gift ! …
Awesome Kat, hope you had fun day. Sonny jurgensen turned 87 yesterday.
Loved to watch him play, even if those Skins teams were rarely any good.
1967 he threw for 3700 yds. 31 TD passes–27 combined to Charley Taylor Bobby Mitchell and Jerry Smith, awesome receiving core that caught almost 200 passes btw them. And they won 5 games, lol
Loved Jurgenson. George Allen and the Over the Hill gang.
Thanks Chi,Unca,Snarkk &Willied. Yeah share my Aug 23 Day with Yaz who’s only 33 my junior in years lol 😂
Yes another run at a W/S trophy still amazes me,Wow wouldn’t that be something crazy!!
With the Giants mystifying the whole baseball world and we’re criticized for Kapler putting a way to young coaching staff together, they have every other organization rethinking with their success on that now!
But sadly with the fruits of their labor could cause changes next year as other clubs could be all in getting in line for coaches like Kapler’s right hand man Kai Correia 33 (could be a reach for a manager gig but who knows) hitting coaches Donnie Ecker&Justin Viele even Richardson the 1st base coach all could get interviews..
Yeah, everyone but Wotus. Happy birthday Kat, let’s hope the Giants make it a great one!
I’ve been to SF, NY Yankee, NY Mets and Philly games over the last 50 years, but today.is a special time. It’s the first time being at a Giants game while they are in first place. Even my wife Deb, who agreed to come, is showing some excitement. lol.
Atmosphere is electric and Giants fans are everywhere. Nice to be in good seats behind their dugout.
I must say it gives you a pumped up feeling in this situation with a little less anxiety.
Let’s have some fun!
From Pav: Longoria on the IL with a right hand contusion. They also put Kevin Gausman on the IL, it is vaccine-related, per the Giants.
Belted in the Big Apple!
Wow Belt launched that bomb to CF 433 ft off the Apple 🍎 emblem!!
Thanks MacDog, I see your back home just in time for the Giants to destroy NY in this series hopefully!!
Where’s Bryant?
Yaz first to 20!
Yaz it all about Birthdays that get you fired up!
That was like a 450 ft Rocket 🚀
Wow. Yaz waking his bat up.
Met fan friend at Citifield says it feels like a road game.
Giant fans all over the place…
LaBomba!
Hey 19 Belt!
Wade is the Man!!
He needs ROY votes!!
Wow now Belt number 2 of the game and BACK to BACK Baby!!!
Hell get me to a bat rack!!
Good to see the Giants pound this guy after he held them to 1 run in the loss last week.
CrawBI single.
Every hitter in lineup now has a hit, top 4th.
His name was Megill,
He’s gone from the hill.
From now on they’ll know him as Nancy…
The Giants lead MLB with 189 HR, but the playoffs and the WS is all about pitching. Are any of you guys worried about the Giants being shutdown in the playoffs?
No. We’ve hit just about everyone.
Only if they league discovers the aluminum under the wood covering bats..
12 hits in 4 innings?
They appreciate the good lighting…
Long with the knock AND the bunt.
Kev, for rest of season whether pitching (starters mostly) holds up would be primary concern. Other than Cueto and Watson, what other Giants have ever pitched in post season? Wood maybe for Dogs?
McGee, obvious miss.
Gasman pitched for the Bravos in the playoffs iirc.
Also for Orioles in ’14.
No shit.. The Orioles made the playoffs in the last 10 years?
Yeah, hard to believe. Got swept by KC in ALCS, I think.
Yeah right now the pitching into the post season is at the top of the list. I was just curios if anyone was worried about the hitting.
Adding Bryant makes a big difference as every day guy that sends platoon guys to bench. Enough balance and versatility btw LH and RH, and vet guys, I think Unc is right.
Alvarez too 2013 for Detroit, 3 innings.
Long’s curve is pretty sick.
Yeah, but he’s throwing too many pitches…
I was happy to get 3 out of him.. And so was Mr. Kotter.
I think the strength of the pitching when the PS starts is key. Of course, the Giants had only one real SP at that point in 2014 but the pen was strong. And that one SP was MadBum vintage 2014 . . . .
The Giants got to the WC that year with 88 wins.
Wonder if Mets collapse continues if Rojas (deep SF Giants roots) survives.
Rojas has the strangest, if not the slightest, CV of any manager in mlb history, doesn’t he?
I’d say it’s about average…
I don’t know if he sucks, but he’s unusual. I don’t think he played at mlb or milb levels at any time, even in ST. He was the mets’ new “quality control” coach when they suddenly bumped him up in an emergency situation to be mgr. He may be good, but I agree that he’ll probably get blamed if the mets fail now.
yes. Nothing above AA as mgr., very brief minor career as player.
Cohen probably wants splashier hire.
I can’t find much on his milb player time. fangraphs, a bit, ambiguously. Football and basketball coaches and head coaches come up that way, right? I can’t think of another mlb manager who has.
Mets want Theo…
Ted Turner?
Dickerson would be better off doing Addams Family are Munsters commercials, would be so much more realistic..
Quality Control at a Wack-O Mole company
…is really hit and miss..
This guy’s a fucking disaster..
Chatwood walk and beaning to the head with 2 out and 8-0 lead.
As he got going, Flemming said it’s easy to see why they wanted to sign him.
A rare stress-free win, especially vs the Mets. And a great start to a tough stretch Chi posted about earlier.
First team to automatically reach a .500 season with number 81 real good chance they can’t lose 37 straight right?
Love Wade!! Hard to believe after all these years belt career high in HRs today at 19.
The wife and I will be at Dodger game sat the 4th! Cant wait!
Early appearance for the SportsDude.
I’m concerned about Stix.
Also have a bad feeling about Ewisco and OSF.
And where the hell is Dirt?
The mention of SOAD the other day got me thinking a little…
Dirt interacts with me almost daily on twitter. Not sure about the other guys but if he’s fine everyone probably is, right?
Well, glad Dirt’s ok.
But he’s a kid in this place…
Braves lose again to the Yanks. Now they get the next two days off before the Giants come to Atlanta on Friday. How the hell does that happen with the schedule?
And why isn’t Thursday an afternoon game?
Belt’s grandma passed away earlier today before the game.
He dedicated his game to her. 4 hits, 3 RBI, 2 dongs.
Nice…
We may have to whack a few grannies come post season…
BTW, we’ve got somebody, somewhere better than Chatwood.
Right? …
mm 12 other pitchers. He’s last resort. Moronta lastest outing–2/3 inning 2 hits 1 BB and earned run.
Faced 5 batters, got 2 outs.
There’s nothing about Chatwood’s stats that makes me think he can hang on to a BP job much longer, no matter how much the broadcasters try and build him up..
Cool game.
