Let’s See A Sunday Win
A fantastic east coast trip could be taken over the top with a win today. We are winning at an unreal clip but it’s a clip we must sustain to stay ahead of LA.
Hurricanes are such a trip to me. You’re literally waiting for something to arrive. You know it’s going to happen. Destruction is guaranteed. Earthquakes give no warning. I feel terrible for the people who will die today. I don’t believe The Flap has any boots on the grounds in that area……
Agree with you on hurricanes. I met this chick when I was at the First Sergeant’s academy in lovely Gunther, Alabama. She lives in Fort Walton Beach, Florida (panhandle near the Alabama border) but is originally from SF. They get hammered almost every year with hurricanes where she lives. We were out one night and I asked her why she doesn’t move back to SF. She looked at me incredulously, like “are you kidding” and said the earthquakes. I explained the last major earthquake to hit SF was the Loma Prieta back in ’89. Didn’t matter…she was having nothing to do with the earthquakes.
But back to the important things in life…yes, let’s get a win and extend that series win streak to 10. Bums just keep winning, so we have no choice than to match them. Would be nice to have a two or three game cushion when they come to town for our final series with them.
Amazing we still have 10 games with the friars. And six with the Rox…all in Colorado, where they have an excellent home record.
What doesn’t kill ya makes ya stronger. Just win.
At least one Flapper commented that this sort of feels like the ‘93 division battle with Atlanta. Of course, no Wild Card back then to act as a safety net.
On this date in 1966, the Beatles gave their last concert for a paying audience, in, of all places, Candlestick Park.
They’d had enough of the craziness and exhaustion of touring amidst Beatle-mania, and just wanted to focus more on the creative recording possibilities of the studio, which would result in the Sgt. Pepper album, arguably the most influential record in rock music history.
Beatles at the ‘Stick. The crowd wasn’t allowed on the field, although several fans did jump onto the field and attempt to run to the stage before being tackled by security.

Love how Ringo doesn’t miss a beat as he watches a a crazy dude karate chops a cop in the balls!
That could have been distracting!
Disco back on the bump today. Let’s beat down these chopaholic bitches…
It’s crazy that we have the best record in baseball and freaking Logan Webb is the only starting pitcher I trust
Right…that is fucking crazy. Loved the stats WillieD posted at the end of the last thread. Webb 7-0 in his last 13 starts with like a 1.48 ERA. It is gonna be one wild-ass ride to the finish line.
I think that was me, but Willie may have done it, too. 🙂
Says something about being patient with a player.
Wade too.
When the patience pays off, you look brilliant.
More often than not, it probably doesn’t…
I just hope we pound the Braves today I really dislike that team.
I feel so sad for the people of South East Louisiana. So many of them will lose everything they have. It looks like it’s gonna take things like this to make everyone realize climate change is real. I don’t have much empathy for the South but on this I do.
There’s been a lot of pondering on when such a strong anti-science segment grew in our nation. Some people believe it was when the tobacco industry fought back so hard against health scientists. The tobacco companies attacked science in a way it hadn’t been attacked before, with large-scale PR campaigns and lobbying. It opened the door to attacking scientists, who had been so revered in U.S. culture before that.
That’s probably the biggest advantage of having little to lose…
Am I wrong, or is the Atlanta organist not playing the ‘war chant’ anymore? Without the organ, the few in the crowd trying to do it just sound like disorganized drunken racists. The chant now sounds completely exposed for what it is.
I’d like to see it abandoned in Kansas City as well.
Even when it wasn’t widely thought of as racist, it was no less moronic…
Fun fact:
The day before the Beatles concert which was held on a Monday night, the Giants concluded a 15 game home stand with a loss to the Dodgers. They were tied for first with the Pirates at the end of the day. Perry would win only one more game after starting the season 20-2…
https://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/SFN/SFN196608280.shtml
Very interesting! I didn’t know any of that.
As far as I know, the only recording of that concert was on a hand-held tape recorder held by someone in the Beatles’ entourage standing on the field next to the stage. So it’s a very low-quality recording that can be found on YouTube.
Here’s about a minute and a half of that concert. The tape-recorder synced up to film footage.
“Man, they were blowing like a hurricane.”
Yeah, that line is more poignant right now.
Yes that was Zum with amazing Webb stats. He’s so different than last season, no more nibbling/80 pitches to get out of 4th inning. Less BBs, lower BA against, more groundballs and fewer line drives and fly balls. Throw strikes and work quickly is game plan of coaching staff.
I really liked the old Atlanta mascot guy from the 60’s thru 80’s Chief Nocohoma ?
He was full of energy and war dances. He would do a special spirit dance on the pitchers mound before a Braves pitcher took the mound for luck.He also had his own cool section that was raised in the stands with scaffolding ( totally not osha approved these days) where he had his rockin cool teepee he could go in and out of but especially on a Braves HR where he would do his War Dance to the crowd!
The Chief had an awful lot of time to kill in that teepee.
God knows what went on in there…
An hour before game time and still no Giant line up released.
Waiting on Bryant’s tightness maybe?
i read earlier on twitter that Bryant is out today but available to PH
Scientists can be bought off to produce business friendly reports just like anyone; Pentagon and big business have been doing this forever. Dow chemical? Monsanto? Standard Oil refineries? list is endless…nothing to see here/Bart Simpson you can’t prove it defense yada yada.
When Shrub Bush was elected governor of Texas he immediately got laws passed making it difficult for any Erin Brockovitch type whistleblower suits to be successful.
Asbestos? Lead in paint? Water in Flint Michigan? Miners and lung disease? Cuyahoga River catching fire? No one knew, lol?
The general public seemed to be getting onboard eventually. The Cuyahoga River was cleaned up, SF Bay was no longer being used as a dump, asbestos was getting removed from a lot of places, etc.; but then a big pushback happened along the way. The tobacco companies, oil companies, etc., fought back in a massive way, helped along by certain media outlets. Now I have a cousin that thinks the Earth is making petroleum as fast as it’s being pumped out.
There are some people taking animal de-wormer instead of the Covid-19 vaccine.
Kuiper must get tired of being reminded of his lone bomb.
Hope he can last through this wonderful season and enjoy future that looks bright for Giants…and his career lasts longer than Cole Kuiper’s does.
No way Cole would have gotten that gig without the family connection.
Lol does Cole Kuiper and his band of idiots really have a future?
They’re all dressed like Orange Cheetos Sperm ready to be entered in a new forbidden zone like Woody Allen..
I can never take this bunch seriously, they add nothing..
Shatwood era over
For every Wade theirs a Tauchman can’t hit on every player..
When did Jethro Tull’s Ian Anderson become a pitcher?
Well I’m calling Brandon Belt’s 20 HR today right now for Grandma!
Ha. and Belt says it’s Up to Me.
1. LaMonte Wade Jr. (L) RF
2. T. La Stella (L) 2B
3. Darin Ruf (R) LF
4. Brandon Belt (L) 1B
5. B. Crawford (L) SS
6. Wilmer Flores (R) 3B
7. M. Yastrzemski (L) CF
8. Curt Casali (R) C
9. A. DeSclafani (R) P
Senor Saliva’s really picked it up of late…
I wish everyone on Earth regardless of what sport they are talking about would stop using the idiotic
expression “if the season ended today.”
I get the point of it, but the season ends when it ends.
So fuckin annoying…
And the Yankees 13 game winning streak didn’t end.
What actually happened was that their winning streak ended at 13…
Oh shoot one of my musical heroes died recently. Chron has nice obit on pianist Larry Harlow, whom I saw play couple times in Bay area. Brooklyn born into Jewish family of performers, he was in on ground floor of famed 1970s latin music record label Fania, and was featured in movie “Our Latin Thing”, live concert (and street scenes of NYC) filmed at Cheetah nightclub in Manhattan 1971.
Takes great long solo in theme song of all star group, Estrellas de Fania.
llegaron pa gozar, indeed.
The great Ed Asner has passed away at 91…
He was great in “The Invaders” and “Rat Patrol” when he had hair..
But he’ll always be Lou Grant…
Weak changeup by De on Soler.
Collapsing DeSclafani.
When are they gonna end this dugout interview with this boring, stuttering prick on TBS?
Right I’m sick of this freaking interview. They going to go thru War&Peace next???
Giants cannot start this guy vs the Dodgers next weekend.
What’s Ty Blach up to these days?
Bungle in the Jungle.
Even if Loo disagrees the Giants need to hold back Webb a day and pitch him against the Bums! U think the Bums aren’t stacking their pitchers for this big series? Urias (Fri) Buehler (Sat) Scherzer( Sun)
Just hate to mess with his rhythm now.
All wins are still equal at this time…
Exactly, leave Webb alone-it’s filling out rest of rotation they need to worry about. DeSclafani obviously wasn’t ready as he thought today.
Wilmet screwed on check swing?
Won’t get that replay
Giants no clue vs. another slop pitcher.
Nice scaffolding folding Loo!
I had that same National Geographic moon map that was on Lou Grant’s wall. As a kid, I had it on my bedroom wall for a few years, until I started putting up music posters.
We don’t take advantage of the walks. Atl does
Asner had an astoundingly long and successful acting career. He never really stopped. He was doing voice-work for American Dad in his 80s, for example.
Will someone tell this TBS dope that it’s a 2 run triple, not a 2 RBI triple?
Karen is not pleased with this game.

This one looked like it could get ooogly, and it has.
Sammy looks like he needs more AAA development.
Giants are leaking a little oil as they head into a very tough week at home…
Obviously Ian Anderson’s day as Long and Giants spiral out of control.
August 28 (yesterday) 2014 original bassist with Tull Jeff Cornick died in Hawaii. He was with band for first 3 LPs, Stand Up This Was and Benefit. fired from band in 1970, before Aqualung.
Always dug his solo in their version of Bouree.
In the pic of 4 of them from Stand Up LP, he is the one with glasses long hair and headband.
A ticket in great condition from that concert at the ‘Stick sells for a couple of thousand dollars in the memorabilia market.

Nice Zumie in pristine condition!
Yeah back in the 60’s before FM radio it was KYA 1260 and KFRC 610 if you wanted any rock& roll .KFRC had Doctor Don Rose as I recall?
Kya used to put on shows at the Cow Palace. They had the Surf Party and the Limbo Party with all kinds of acts. They were both great shows.
The first show was the Twist Party. The Greasers came out of the woodwork for these shows.
yeah Kat that was local rock AM. KYA had “Emperor” Gene Nelson. When Dylan’s “Like a Rolling Stone” at 6 minutes became a hit, had to be longest single on 45.
Dodgers/Rockies game is on the MLB Network.
Rockies widen their lead to 5-0.
Justin Turner pitching the 9th…
why do that? They are only down 5
Bullpen gassed per broadcaster…
Kenley pitched the 8th…
Giants will miss Scherzer next weekend…
Good, they fuckin lost…
Rockies win again!
Gotta be the baseball Gods.
https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/mlb/javy-baez-has-a-brutally-honest-message-for-mets-fans/ar-AANStvs?ocid=msedgntp
i saw that, i guess he’s right. But he’s sucked for the most part with the Mets, right? This ain’t soft-ass San Francisco. You’re gonna get boo’d if you suck especially if your team gives up guys to get you and you suck from the start/
agree with LoDuca here (not how he spelled the dude’s name).
Yes. Mets self destructed vs. LA and SF and he isn’t hitting much since trade. What was his excuse for getting doubled off on ball Yaz caught?
One thing that earthquakes and hurricanes have in common, each incident is different.
I will say this, it is a special kind of torture to sit through 22 hours of 60 to 70 MPH sustained winds with gusts in the 100s. Especially if you are in a room on your 2nd floor while your 1st floor floods up. That there is a fucked up day in my book.
i can’t even imagine.
I don’t like how NorthEast fans boo their own teams sometimes. It rarely happens in SF, and I’m fine with that.
One of the stupid things in news media is they feel they have to have reporters standing out in the hurricanes. It’s the “money shot” or whatever. It’s just so pointless and stupid.
they had 67 year old Al Rocker getting fucking ROCKED by waves. Put that motherfucker in a studio where he’s safe he’s earned it
Totally agree.
Spectacular use of “motherfucker”
You’re Brooklyn material, Flavor…
There was a black comic who had a funny bit about how news stations only send their black reporters out in the hurricanes, etc.
While I was still living in Boston, mid-’90s, I remember talking to a friend who lived in Ontario outside LA. Northridge quake had just hit. I said to her, how can you stand living in a place threatened by earthquakes? She replied, how can you stand waking up every morning in your 6 months of winter having to shovel the driveway and scrape fucking ice off your windshield, every morning? She had me there. I ended up moving to SF 2 years later….
For me, a rare day-trip to the mountains to see some snow is cool, and then I’m over it. I don’t ski, so I don’t really want to be in it much.
Yes, after leaving Boston, I swore I’d see snow again only on a pay-per-view basis….
I woulda just got rid of the car…
Good idea, woulda simplified things. But I loved my Jeep too much and the freedom it provided. It took moving to Asia to get rid of a car………….
Niners fans at Kezar were legendary for throwing stuff at them coming on or off field through tunnel to locker room. Reason they kept helmets on
Lulz
“One anecdote relates that in the mid-1980s, an intoxicated Jagger phoned Watts’s hotel room in the middle of the night, asking, “Where’s my drummer?” Watts reportedly got up, shaved, dressed in a suit, put on a tie and freshly shined shoes, descended the stairs, and punched Jagger in the face, saying: “Never call me your drummer again.” He expressed regret for the incident in 2003, attributing his behaviour to alcohol.”
Watts then said the best line of all, “You’re my fucking singer!”
