Lead Dwindling

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on August 31, 2021

Jose Quintana is listed as our starter tonight. Oh boy, this entire operation is falling apart at lightening speed. Not sure how to fix any of this. Have we gotten any word on whether or not Cueto and Wood were vax’d?

Nothing else to do but turn our tired ours to Jose Q and just hope for the best….

We never heard if Solano was vaccinated, so that kind of makes us think he probably wasn’t. When the athlete is vaccinated and still catches the virus, teams are usually quick to point out the player was vaccinated, to keep the athlete from getting some negative vibes from the public.

    • willedav said, on August 31, 2021 at 8:49 am

Pretty sure Solano was vaccinated: someone posted that on thread couple days ago iirc. Nothing on Cueto or Wood, who was the one feeling much worse. giants had hit 85% threshold (players and staff) too I do believe.

    • unca_chuck said, on August 31, 2021 at 8:56 am

The Chronicle reported Solano was vaccinated.

      • xoot said, on August 31, 2021 at 1:30 pm

yeah, Slusser tweeted about it days ago.

Q was the hilarious Quartermaster with all the modern gadgets for James Bond to help him succeed.
Are Mr.Q has only hittable gadgets served up on a tee.163 Lifetime HR’s allowed is not good,so expect a few to reach the seats tonight. Let’s see how the Giants pull off their phantom move putting him on the roster, since he’s not on the 40 man?

  3. willedav said, on August 31, 2021 at 8:54 am

Quote this morning from MCC blog host Sami Higgins, “Solano said he had been vaccinated.”

    • willedav said, on August 31, 2021 at 8:55 am

Also had only mild symptoms. Not so with Wood.

  4. unca_chuck said, on August 31, 2021 at 8:57 am

Sounds more like Wood wasn’t vaccinated. In other words, if they are not at 100% then there are outliers.

I think most of us do not really think we were going to hold off the Flodgers with their superior starting pitching for long. With reason, I am hoping the Brew Crew will win the NL but will enjoy a wild card entry amd a series against SmelLA would be entertaining.

    • Winder said, on August 31, 2021 at 10:48 am

Yep, it always comes down to pitching.

    • unca_chuck said, on August 31, 2021 at 11:48 am

Well, the pitching was doing their job, but they have faltered, gotten injured, and now COVID, but there’s still time. LA could go through some of this shit as well.

tomorrow’s the 50th anniversary of the first game in which a mlb team started nine Black (American or Caribbean) players in the LU.

anything about a vax is subject to player’s discretion on what can be released to public.

  8. willedav said, on August 31, 2021 at 11:41 am

Thx Xoot. Gene Clines, local guy played HS ball in Richmond and was Giants coach 1995-2002.

  9. alleykat69 said, on August 31, 2021 at 11:47 am

That wasn’t the case with Cam Newton where the whole league knew he was unvaccinated.Clearly Belicheat was ticked off with him about all the confusion and practice time he missed. No surprise he got cut and who knows how many other teams now want a unvaccinated QB on their roster..

      I bet Pettini does, too…

      • unca_chuck said, on August 31, 2021 at 6:20 pm

I do not remember the GIants having cable cars on their warmups. That is pretty wicked..

  11. denniszu said, on August 31, 2021 at 1:15 pm

I can’t put myself in the minds of this team; but surely it’s conceivable that they are thinking they have owned 1st place this long and are not ready to give it up.
The Dodgers are still looking up in the standings and not seeing their name and I think every member of the Giants mgmt and players will look up and remind themselves that when they take the field tonight..
That’s enough for me to keep thinking they will hold the line, find a way and fuck any thoughts of doubt.

    • chipower9 said, on August 31, 2021 at 3:02 pm

I like the way you think, Dennis. I mean we have held the line for over a month…playing really good teams, so why give it up now…let’s roll!

  12. unca_chuck said, on August 31, 2021 at 1:28 pm

Bosa finally got vaccinated. This was beginning to piss me off, as he could have fucked up a game or 3 for the team.

    • snarkk said, on August 31, 2021 at 3:44 pm

Bosa reportedly also has a girlfriend with a Twitter history full of racist comments, which account she deleted after that was discovered, and which I haven’t seen that he’s publicly disavowed…

      • djloo27 said, on August 31, 2021 at 4:16 pm

        Does he have to?
They’ll only have a big fight over it…

  13. snarkk said, on August 31, 2021 at 2:55 pm

The NFL rules on getting vaxxed should be applied across the country, in other contexts. That is, the NFL says if you are unvaxxed, there are significant consequences for you and potentially your team and teammates. Especially if you get infected. When it starts costing people money and jobs, their “principle” or claimed personal liberty in being unvaxxed becomes suddenly far less important …

    • unca_chuck said, on August 31, 2021 at 4:15 pm

They already did that, Snarkk. Teams will be forced to forfeit games, and suspend pay for players that cause a cancellation.

  14. djloo27 said, on August 31, 2021 at 3:58 pm

The Giants may need to be “carried” to the division title.
Like Cespedes did for the 2015 Mets and Manny for the 2008 Dodgers.
Bryant seems like the guy who can do that…

  15. djloo27 said, on August 31, 2021 at 4:02 pm

I thought Cueto was on the IR.
    Definitely saw that someplace…

there was some bullshit report that he tested +. He’s still sick as a dog and that has to still be better than what J-Q was going to give us

      • djloo27 said, on August 31, 2021 at 5:26 pm

So apparently, he did go on the IL but was re-instated because he didn’t test positive.
        Fuck it – administrative horseshit.
Need 6+ good innings from him and some fuckin offense.
I’m starting to pine for the Grave Duggar…

  16. unca_chuck said, on August 31, 2021 at 4:18 pm

Fucking Kapler said it the other day in the Bleacher Report article. Can’t find the article now of course.

  17. unca_chuck said, on August 31, 2021 at 4:20 pm

Apropos of nothing, just watched this. For you basketball fans, here’s the 4th quarter in the 1969 NBA finals with the Celtics holding a 15 point lead. Just watch (19) Don Nelson shoot free throws!!! The logo is on fire.

    • unca_chuck said, on August 31, 2021 at 4:23 pm

The names are nuts. Baylor, Russell, Chamberlain, Jones, Havlicek on and on.

      • djloo27 said, on August 31, 2021 at 5:15 pm

        All pretty ancient, though.
I don’t know how those old Celtics got past the fast breaking Bullets of Unseld, Monroe, Gus Johnson, etc.
And Jack Marin had one spot on the floor he never missed from.
Right side – foul line extended…

      • willedav said, on August 31, 2021 at 5:59 pm

wow thanks Chuck this is awesome. Always dug emmett bryant. Siegfried and rest of Celts not so much. Bailey Howell was good player at end of career who helped them off bench.
        Wilt’s finger roll, lol.

      • unca_chuck said, on August 31, 2021 at 6:22 pm

Thought you’d dig that, Willie!! Have you read Walton’s book. Good read,

      • willedav said, on August 31, 2021 at 6:27 pm

The Walton bio? Yes, very well done. Man, health problems he had, that dated all the way from childhood, wouldn’t wish on anyone.

      • willedav said, on August 31, 2021 at 6:38 pm

Jack Marin, on short list of likable Duke players. Gus Johnson, talk about man among boys, what a physical presence, Unseld too for that matter. Pearl used to average 30 a game, just couldn’t win until traded away. that spin move of his was awesome, first time I’d ever seen something like that.

    • willedav said, on August 31, 2021 at 5:52 pm

Nelson had the worst FT form ever. How any of them ever went in is mystery.

      • djloo27 said, on August 31, 2021 at 6:18 pm

        Did you like Walt Bellamy?
He seems to get disrespected here, because trading him for DeBusschere was such a great deal for the Knicks.
He was a little quirky, but I always liked him.
        He’s a HOFER…

  18. willedav said, on August 31, 2021 at 6:25 pm

Russell was player coach. Wilt said he was ready to go back in but Schaus refused to play him.
This was also balloon game—owner Jack Kent Cooke had tons of balloons set up in rafters to be released if LA won. Russell and Celts saw that and vowed it wouldn’t happen, and it didn’t as announcers said after game was over.

    • willedav said, on August 31, 2021 at 6:33 pm

Auerbach hiring a black coach in those days was trendsetter at time. He also played an all black starting 5 couple years earlier–with Satch Sanders Willie Naulls Sam and K C. Sixers matched it, I remember watching as HS kid, with Wilt Luke Jackson Chet Walker my hero Hal Greer and Wali Jones, coached by Alex Hannum.

Loo, Bells just never impressed me much but he could score points. It’s kinda funny to watch Celts run the high post split play with 2 guard front, with passer screening for opposite guard to go through.
who were the refs–looked like Mendy Rudolph and maybe Earl Strom?

  19. Macdog said, on August 31, 2021 at 6:30 pm

It’s US Open time in NYC, one of my favorite events to watch and occasionally attend. Unfortunately, ESPN has it, which means having to listen to Chris Fowler, who I don’t like much on college football and even less so for tennis.

it’s wild to me how old Nellie is

    • alleykat69 said, on August 31, 2021 at 6:57 pm

He looked old when he was young. Now days he looks like death warmed over..

      • Flavor said, on August 31, 2021 at 7:08 pm

my buddy used to tell me stories about him on planes. His company ran the gas for the private jet company that ran the Dubs around. He said they used to have to carry Nellie off the plane ALL THE TIME lol. Like, he was so fucked up at the end of the flight he couldn’t walk. ALL. THE. TIME.

  21. Macdog said, on August 31, 2021 at 6:50 pm

    Maybe they should’ve started Quintana.

  22. Macdog said, on August 31, 2021 at 7:05 pm

Posey’s average has dropped nearly .30 since Aug. 11, maybe Bryant should move ahead of him?

Fucking Cueto stinkin’ it up tonight.

  23. Flavor said, on August 31, 2021 at 7:06 pm

On second thought, where is Josie Q?

  24. alleykat69 said, on August 31, 2021 at 7:15 pm

And why did they start Johnny when they know he’s sick?
Just throwing batting practice, 5 hits a walk a HR as Kruk makes me shake my head, saying Cueto needs to go 6 innings are more.He will be lucky to go 4 with the shit he’s tossing up there..

  25. unca_chuck said, on August 31, 2021 at 7:24 pm

Getting a real Aaron Rowan vibe from Yaz lately.

Watch the strikes, swing at the balls

      • Macdog said, on August 31, 2021 at 7:26 pm

Brewers sure don’t watch the strikes.

  26. unca_chuck said, on August 31, 2021 at 7:25 pm

    • willedav said, on August 31, 2021 at 7:28 pm

yeah think most CFs would be quick enough to get to that ball.

  27. alleykat69 said, on August 31, 2021 at 7:35 pm

The joke is they didn’t even bother having a pitcher warm up! Cueto bats second next inning and there probably let him hit as well..

  28. mrsprtdude said, on August 31, 2021 at 7:39 pm

I get that players are supposed to be tough but if Cueto had enough symptoms to have the flu yesterday isn’t he weak today? If he was asymptomatic they would have never said he had the F**ing flu. Lame move to start him

  29. PaulinAsia Banh Bao said, on August 31, 2021 at 7:40 pm

I think Yaz will be fine, but yeah, he’s a corner outfielder. Someone still needs to nail down CF. Duggar had his chance; not sure anyone else seems ready to grab it and run with it.

  30. Macdog said, on August 31, 2021 at 7:41 pm

  46. snarkk said, on August 31, 2021 at 8:05 pm

Giants pitching staff is looking very shaky now. Webb is the only dependable starter…

  47. alleykat69 said, on August 31, 2021 at 8:09 pm

Yeah it was dumb by Belt to try and bunt for sure. But Kruk&Flem are merciful still ripping himself a new one, and adding this will get back to Kapler and the players in the dugout just got deflated more!WTF? What they were doing in the field was a lot worse then Belt’s AB..

    • unca_chuck said, on August 31, 2021 at 8:33 pm

Yeah giving away 2 outs and 2 runs is a little more egregious than a strikeout

  48. unca_chuck said, on August 31, 2021 at 8:13 pm

Belt had always been the whipping boy of the announcers. Fucking row and would strike out 37 times in a row and all we would hear is how hard he works.
