Thud!

Can’t hit. Can’t pitch. The eyepopping comebacks from weeks past are no longer. And we are now in second place. It’s a terrible start to a Thursday gents, but at least we have a 13 game lead in the wild card. Now THAT is an eyepopping number!

Yeah, Mr McGoo hadn’t pitched in 8 days or some shit. Like someone said I would have put him in yesterday before the Brebbia aisle had a major disaster.

    Appropos of nothing.
I figure most of the Flappers here are 50+.
I got my second of two shots today for Shingles.
That’s not roof tiles. It’s a disease related to Chicken Pox, a second coming of the same virus; if you’ve had that before; most have. Mostly, it seems to rare up in people over 50, and moreso over 60. Out of the blue. Nasty. Painful. Bad rashes, fever, muscle weakness and general fatigue. Way worse than the initial Chicken Pox. It can F you up, especially if you’ve got some other health issues going on already. A woman I know in my work, probably early 50s, got it some months ago. Hadn’t had the shots. Put her in the hospital for about a week, and knocked the heck out of her for nearly a month, so she couldn’t work. Check it out with your doc if you haven’t had the shots. The first shot and booster are at least two months apart. Beware, the shots can make you feel crappy the next day with some low fever and aches. First one did to me. Probably this second one will do the same to me tomorrow. But, apparently worth it compared to what could happen if you get the full blown Shingles…

I’ve heard the shot’s not all that successful, Snarkk.
      Is that true?

      • snarkk said, on September 2, 2021 at 6:02 pm

No, not what I’ve heard. But, no vaxx is 100% effective.
I always take the annual flu shot, and it’s probably 50% -60% effective, depending on how good they guess which variant will be prevalent for the season. That said, the flu shot supposedly helps reduce the sickness severity even if the match isn’t so great. Like I said, check with your doc. My doc is good, she’s a recommender, not an orderer, treats you like an adult. ( BTW, I ALWAYS have a woman doc for primary care). She has been after me, though, the last couple of years to take it since I’m over 60 and am not in stellar health and condition, let’s say. Mrs. snarkk got hers last year, she just popped over 60 last year. She knew a woman friend who got the Shingles, and a bad case of it. When I heard about my work colleague early this summer having an extremely bad case with no shot, and she’s at least a decade younger than me, I decided to pull the trigger.
        YMMV…

i haven;’t gotten Shingles vax but I know many people who have. I should deal with that.

I do get the flu shot every year and my doctor never suggests anything else.
I think he’s just burnt out.
He only wants to talk baseball with me…

      Get a woman doctor.
Good hands. Thorough. They may like to mother you a little, depending on how you talk with them.
Usually don’t have the God complex — actually answer questions without appearing like you’re threatening their intelligence and/or dick size…

Loo’s picture of Yankee Stadium brought this to mind, TD Bank Ballpark in Bridgewater, NJ, after yesterday’s rain. Home of Yanks AA team. I think Paul in ‘Nam has been to this ballpark.
