A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Cubbie Time

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on September 10, 2021

Bring on some easy wins, woo hoo let’s go! Ah, not so fast. The Cubs are still a major league baseball team. Sure, their front office gave up on them but they didn’t seem to care. They’re 8-2 in their last ten games. They are a bunch of no names with the slow and weak Duffy batting in the middle of the line up. Nice weather in Wrigley today with the wind blowing out a bit.

Kyle Hendricks is beatable if you lay off his sinker. We are good at laying off pitchers and only hitting what Kai Correa has instructed us to hit so we should put up some runs today.

But we are going *opener* and all you have to do to be scared of no name guys is take a look at our line up once in a while. The guys who can get hot and take two put of the ballpark in a game are Schwindel and Wisdom, two cast offs. Their catcher bats lead off but he’s got big power, too.

Anyway, let’s go, we need to keep winning. I am NOT winning over 100 games and settling for a damn play in game…..

Going to be interesting to see Duffy. Very interesting.

The games at Wrigley usually are hard fought games for us lots of scoring but back and forth IIRC.

  3. Macdog said, on September 10, 2021 at 7:45 am

I can’t remember the last time the Giants won a series at Wrigley, always a tough place to play. Of course that was against Bryant, Rizzo and Co., but yeah, the Cubs scrubs are playing well of late and aren’t gonna lay down this weekend.

  4. Winder said, on September 10, 2021 at 8:00 am

I like that all 3 games are afternoon games.

Pads at Dogs this weekend. Roberts started Gonsolin for 3 innings and then Cards hit game winning bomb off Bickford. Betts played 2b, and he rested Seager and Taylor. They got 1 hit in 5 innings off Cards pen. Wasn’t enough.

  6. unca_chuck said, on September 10, 2021 at 8:34 am

Pads are back in the WC spot I see. Guess they’ve turned it back around a bit.

None of this is gonna be easy. But it ain’t easy for the Dogs either.

As long as the opener doesn’t pitch like a rusty can opener I think the Giants will be fine. And I can see Kris Bryant(HR Today book it) wanting to put some major revenge whooping on his former team going even back to screwing him over getting his career started..Cubs have always been a fun organization for me to watch,Banks let’s play 2,Santo,Williams,Jenkins,Beckert&Kissinger,Hundley later on Sandberg&Grace all part of the loveable Cubs losing tradition.I still root for them except of course against the Giants starting today.Something special about rowdy Cubs fan, the brick walls, now they’re invention first of the beer snake which is funny as shit trying to get to the upper deck as well..Yes Harry Caray,Bill Murray 7th inning and others :Take me out to the ballgame it’s perfect! it’s special being a Cubs fan legend…

Bryant either needs a break or to get rolling. He’s been silent for 3 weeks now. Not sure if he’s battling some kind of injury but there’s little production from him lately.

Good keep this slime ball out of baseball forever!!

  14. snarkk said, on September 10, 2021 at 12:00 pm

It really sucks that the Giants have nobody in the minors they feel is useful for spot starts. ZMan may have tried to get a starter of some kind before the trade deadline, but I see the failure to do that as serious error, if they had no confidence in anybody in the minors. Particularly if they knew Wood was not vaccinated and they rolled the dice on him, and turned up snake eyes. These Pen games I think are going to screw up the Pen by post season time, if not earlier…

    • willedav said, on September 10, 2021 at 12:23 pm

Everyone does pen games, including LA and SD. Z did try to get Scherzer. None of us know who else was available or what prospects teams asked about.

    • snarkk said, on September 10, 2021 at 12:54 pm

      Estes is good.
He’s going to get a permanent gig with the Giants, if he wants it, when one or more of the old codgers decide to leave…

My son and some of his friends spent the summer in Chicago two years back. He landed a job at the restaurant-bar that sits up above the leftfield corner at Wrigley. The managers of the place and their well-heeled clientele were all Cubs fans; the people he worked with were WSox fans from the South Side. He became a WSox fan. Cubs fans reminded him of Boston fans he knew. He said the Wrigley stands were always full of white people.

He’s still in touch with some of the people he met there. The Cubs fans are pissed off; the WSox fans, dislike of LaRussa notwithstanding, are very happy.

    • alleykat69 said, on September 10, 2021 at 1:04 pm

Has the recognition of being the 2,000th player in A’s history if that means anything?
He did however hit a bomb in his 1st plate appearance with them as they called him “Frank the Tank”

  23. alleykat69 said, on September 10, 2021 at 12:55 pm

Yeah Littell can’t carry whole team with his hot bat..

  24. alleykat69 said, on September 10, 2021 at 1:11 pm

Mr.Clutch Wade gets it done again. Ties it up!
    Baserunning not so much..

  25. Macdog said, on September 10, 2021 at 1:13 pm

Not good baserunning by Wade. On the other hand, he probably spared Bryant from hitting into a DP.

    • djloo27 said, on September 10, 2021 at 1:13 pm

      Bryant: 4 for last 28

      • unca_chuck said, on September 10, 2021 at 1:18 pm

They got to do something with Bryant. There is nothing in his swing.

  26. willedav said, on September 10, 2021 at 1:24 pm

Matt Duffy yawn. Frank Duffy, wow part of 2 Giants disaster trades. Acquired with Vern Geishert from Reds for George Foster, then traded to Tribe with Gaylord for Sam McDowell.

    • alleykat69 said, on September 10, 2021 at 1:31 pm

Yeah Frankly saying those trades sucked for the Giants..Thanks cheap ass Horace Stoneham…

  33. snarkk said, on September 10, 2021 at 1:35 pm

Wade is clutch. Tried to do too much with the base running mistake.
Longo turned around a 98 mph straight as a string FB.
Maybe he’s getting back in gear ? That would help ! …

  34. alleykat69 said, on September 10, 2021 at 1:38 pm

U know your team sucks when the bench coach makes the pitching change instead of a hiding Manager..

  35. willedav said, on September 10, 2021 at 1:40 pm

    • alleykat69 said, on September 10, 2021 at 2:22 pm

Lol MacDog..Watsonville is the Artichoke capital the world( well atleast in California)
Wonder if people do like chokes in Chicago other then the Cubs?

      • Macdog said, on September 10, 2021 at 2:28 pm

Wasn’t it near the epicenter of the ’89 quake?

      • Winder said, on September 10, 2021 at 2:29 pm

Kat- They used to grow a lot of Artichokes in Half Moon Bay also. Remember the teepee’s that used to sit in back of an artichoke field on Hwy 1?

      • unca_chuck said, on September 10, 2021 at 2:58 pm

        They still do.

      • xoot said, on September 10, 2021 at 2:59 pm

Watsonville’s in the Pajaro River valley, near the coast; the epicenter was fairly close, in the mountains, and but probably closer to Santa Cruz. I spent half a year working saws and such at a lumber yard in Watsonville. Many violent fights among the alienated laborers; bloody hanks of hair and teeth left behind, etc. Great Mexican restaurants, though. KPIG, one of the best radio stations in the world, has its studios in the nextdoor hamlet of Freedom.

Also, fun fact: until fairly recently, the largest industrial employer in Santa Cruz was the Wrigley gum factory on the west side of town (near the original Haut surfboard shop).

  57. zumiee said, on September 10, 2021 at 2:41 pm

Longo’s most important hit so far as a Giant.

  58. zumiee said, on September 10, 2021 at 2:44 pm

It would be great if the Padres compete well vs. the Dodgers this weekend. The Padres have found some new energy.

  59. Irish Kevin said, on September 10, 2021 at 2:54 pm

Nice win, looks like E. Longo is good to go.

  60. snarkk said, on September 10, 2021 at 2:57 pm

    Very good game all around.
Not just homers, but some nice hitting with RISP, even a sac fly by Longo.
After the Gyros got the starter out of the game, that is, with pitch count.

No doubt that Craw is the team MVP.
That double play is in the top 5 Giants defensive plays of the year.

Belt was really leading the offensive fire today. He needs to keep hot…

  61. snarkk said, on September 10, 2021 at 3:01 pm

Here’s hoping the Pads do a number on LA this weekend…

    • willedav said, on September 10, 2021 at 3:29 pm

Yes. Pads in town for 4 at the O after that. Rough stretch for them. Texted with Pads fan godson who said they can’t afford too many more losses

  62. snarkk said, on September 10, 2021 at 3:08 pm

The team seems pretty damn lose, that’s good.
Here’s Belt, tongue firmly in cheek, per Pavlovic, on the stunning double play:

“My stretch over there was unbelievable, you can’t say enough about it. But I guess if you have to talk about Craw and La Stella a little bit, honestly I can’t pick which one did a better job.”

  63. alleykat69 said, on September 10, 2021 at 3:12 pm

Belt said jokingly on the flight to Chicago, oh yeah” I’m the Captain of the team”
So Longo overheard that and played off of it and ducked taped a C on his chest and he rolled with onto the field!!
Team is playing so loose 🤟I’m digging that!
