Win Out To Win The Division
One of the few weekend days where baseball will be taking a back seat for me. Webb will continue his march towards under the radar Cy Young votes and Max Scherzer will be laying waste to the pathetic Padres.
Meanwhile…..NFL! Opening Sunday. Oh my does Draftkings ever have some spectacular tournies today.
No surprises in Detroit. Just go in there and treat them like the Dodgers do the Padres. Seriously, does San Diego have any self respect at all?
65 years ago. How many of you guys are 65?

Cool artwork on the (program cover?). Nope…not 65 (a year short). My remote will be getting a workout today bouncing between the Niners and Giants.
Giants with the opportunity to close out 6-0 on this road trip. Just keep winning and put the pressure on the bums. Would be cool to get just a little help from the damned Friars (win at least one of your series).
GO NINERS!!!!!
The Giants are EN FUEGO!
Just turned 60, so a little before my time, but I have read a lot about 49er history (Giants too) over the years. That is one cool poster. The Lions are one of those teams I always seem to be rooting for, maybe partly because I read Plimpton’s “Paper Lion” as a kid. Their history is interesting too, and they’ve had a lot of great players, but also a lot of bad luck. I think it’d be really good for the NFL if they one a Super Bowl at some point. Michigan is more than a little football crazy. Great unis too!
GO 49ERS!
Yeah I like the Lions too. Maybe Thanksgiving day games gives me a soft spot for them? My first NFL playoff game was niners vs Detroit. I remember it was such a bright beautiful day at Candlestick.
Was that in the ’83 playoffs, the one when Eddie Murray missed a late FG that would’ve won it for the Lions?
Yup. I was thinking about that exact game a minute ago. It was a very makeable kick, too and he was an excellent kicker. Part of the bad luck I was talking about.
Never hear a peep about his HOF baseball namesake…
yes. I barely remember the end for some reason. I just remember coming up that big assed escalator and looking out on the field, it was so bright and sunny. And the uniforms both teams were wearing, impeccable.
The Niners have a long history with the Lions, including winning their first Super Bowl in their stadium. The Lions beat the Niners in the first game of that season there, but that’s where Ray Wersching found out that squib kicks on that rock hard turf caused the ball to bounce in crazy ways. I think he started doing it because he was hurt in that game. He then used them to wreak havoc on the Bengals in the SB.
Welcome back LJ!
Stay awhile for Christ sake!
Thanks Loo! I’ve been around, just living up to my user name! LOL
I had a great old friend who was the only Lions fan I ever knew.
He died too young a few ago.
He also loved the Doors and Deep Purple.
R.I.P. Tommy Santagata…
Sounds like my kind of guy. Huge Purple fan here and The Doors were one of the first bands I ever got into.
Rarely meet a rabid Deep Purple fan.
Unca Chuck a solid candidate here…
Was this the last time Detroit was relevant? Great names in this game, including Detroit RB Billy Simms.
Good friend of mine got married on this very day, and as the game got closer and closer to the dramatic finish, the dance floor got emptier and emptier until he realized everyone, including me and ALL the ushers, were packed into a bedroom in the house with the game on.
man, thanks for posting this! This is EXACTLY how I remember it as Young Flavor in ’83
The dance floor in my house is always packed.
The bedroom’s empty…
Sims was a terrific back. He scored the game winning TD in that game I mentioned above. Injuries derailed his career, but he was phenomenal when healthy.
Yep. He was bad ass.
going thru my memory rolodex, I THINK the only two playoff games I went to were the Lions game and then the Super Bowl at Stanford–so technically the Lions game was the only Niner playoff game I ever went to?
Lions always gave #20 to their best player.
Sims, Lem Barney, Sanders…
put a gun to my head I’d probably say Billy Sims was my favorite college back of all time
McCaffrey second?
no, probably a tie for second between Barry Sanders and Herschel Walker. College football meant a lot more to me back then than it does now
I bet OJ was a lot of people’s favorite…
I preferred Leroy Keyes and Earthquake Enyart…
Poor Monte Clark. Great coach who never got his due. Loved him as the Niners coach in 1976 as he had the team at 6-2 under Jim Plunkett before getting waylaid by injuries. This was his high point in Detroit.
I’m really tired of seeing the Lions getting wiped out on Thanksgiving Day. The NFL needs to make a change on that.
DEFINITELY!
Having to watch the Lions locked in a room with family is my personal hostage crisis…
Yeah; the Lions get blown out every year and people have to end up talking to their crazy relatives. 🙂
It would be hard to express how much Kelly dominated Myers in a crucial moment of that Dodger game last night. Myers struck out on three pitches looking utterly helpless.
I’m upping my percentage of Bochy managing the Padres next season to 99.9%.
I saw that AB. Myers had another one the night before, runners on 2nd and 3rd and kept flailing/check swinging at sliders away.
I am quite surprised BF made no mention of the Stanford game.
i texted my buddy in Colorado (who can bet legally) and I told him +17.5 is a joke hammer the Cardinal. Now he’s mad I didn’t tell him to bet the $-line
Shaw and his QB outcoached and outplayed SC.Thrash
1. Austin Slater (R) CF
2. Darin Ruf (R) LF
3. Kris Bryant (R) RF
4. Buster Posey (R) C
5. Evan Longoria (R) 3B
6. Wilmer Flores (R) 1B
7. Thairo Estrada (R) 2B
8. Mauricio Dubon (R) SS
9. Logan Webb (R) P
3 straight for Buster, but he probably sits tomorrow, so that would give him about over 48 hours rest till Tuesday night’s game…
Can’t remember an all RH line up like this…
Hope Ramos can fit in there next year.
I would assume Castro was exiled to make room for Mr. Ed…
Jesus fucking Christ jimmy
Feel better?
Lions gonna be Lions. Loved Paper Lion, and Night Train Lane too.
Goff in mid-season form..
Then again, so are our fumbling QB issues.
That’ll do trey, that’ll do
I just turned 65 “Everyday your eyes open is a good day!”
Congrats! Turned 60 this year myself.
I’m scheduled for 65 in a few months…
Nice! Jimmy did just enough to keep the drive going. Trey finishes the drive.
Not to shabby complete your 1st NFL pass for a TD!! Trey Mania has started..
Run D is terrible.
Loved those 10 AM Bloody Mary games when I was in LA…
Nice hole there!
Greenlaw pick 6 to the house!
Thanks Goff for being the shit QB u always have been lol 😂
Slush said Brebbia and Barager out for Wilmet and Slater. Oh you younguns….last month I hit 70.
Much as I love this, Detroit as been a tragedy of a football team for over 75 years. Shame for that rabid fan base.
I am 66 years old. 1955 was a very good year, Disneyland opened.
Buster kills a big inning.
Duffman can’t handle backhander, Slater RBI hit for 3-0.
Cubs waking up, couple deep drives to CF. 3-2.
Slater missed one in the sun that turned into triple.
Yeah lucky he wasn’t hurt, but ball was hit well.
Wilmer!
Wilmet strikes again!
Jesus. WTF is going on out there?
2 4-out innings.
Bryant has not been good defensively this week.
Niner game caused me a high amount of unnecessary stress! No Giants too! WTF???
never easy. SMH
Jeesus. Garbage pitch.
🧹🧹🧹 Fucking tortuous…
Niners and Giants both play terrible defense but come away with wins.
The other Giants also played terrible defense but weren’t quite so fortunate.
Yes! Two ugly finishes, but two wins. I’ll take it, though the 49ers’ injury jinx continues. You never see a hack like Dontae Johnson get hurt, it’s always the important guys.
YES!!!
Sweep the Cubbies!
Verrett likely ACL. Niners weakest position just got weaker. GRR
Giants did their part, now it would be great to see the Padres come through today.

Big day for Mr.Ed nice to see him back!
Lots of torture in 49ers game and this one but in the end ugly wins count too!
They may count, but they’d better get their shit together. AZ blew out a good Titans team, the Seahawks rolled over a good Colts team and we’ll see how the Rams do tonight. Pretty sure they’re going to be really good. That was a pathetic 4th quarter showing today.
Totally agree. The 49ers arrogance almost bit em in the ass.
Verrett being likely done is a killer. Major coaching fuckup in this one. The D went soft AND put in the backups to allow those easy 4th quarter TD drives. Not a good start. But a win is a win. Esp on the road.
Offense looked fine till they sputtered late. Huge fumble by Deebo. No catches by Aiyuk.
I don’t even recall them targeting Aiyuk.
The Giants just keep being amazing.
Scherzer is no-hitting the Padres. Not a big surprise.
Oh I guess it’s a perfect game going. Figures.
Padres get a hit!
Bochy now at 99.9999% probability to be managing the Padres next season.
I agree zum.
I’d say odds are better than even,I dunno about 99,99+.
He’ll get a lot of cash if they want him.
I said when he left the Giants at end 2019 seasonI thought he’d take over the Pads the next season. Then Covid hit in early 2020.
He’s probably had enough fishing, and maybe got his health together. Pads could be better if they had a steady hand in the manager’s office. Covid situation next off season may be a key; he may not want to risk it, even assuming he’s vaxxed up…
Great point. Covid is an X-factor.
I hope the Padres plan on laying down for the Giants like they did for the Dodgers.
No shit.
Dodgers may win 15 of the last 20, at least. Giants need to go 8-2, worst 7-3 against Diego…
is our magic number 2 to clinch a playoff spot??? So beat the loser Friars tomorrow and we are in…
fuck that. Into what? Hosting some dumbass one game crap shoot? No way. Win the division, that’s the only goal
Pav said that was Giants’ first sweep at Wrigley since 1995.
Just watched the condensed game. Wilmer not only had an excellent day at bat but at 1B as well. He handled some shaky throws, made the play on the high bounce in the 9th that could’ve been trouble, and appropriately fielded the final out. On the flip side, another bonehead OF play involving Slater. That’s got to stop.
Sorry, he was indisposed…
