A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

This text from my buddy Luke in Portland pretty much sums them up:

EITHER LA is one of the greatest baseball teams of all time OR it is as Luke said….

Remember the start of the year and everyone was freaking out about the LA/SD rivalry? Hmmmm where’d that go? It lasted about 3 weeks. A rivalry that lasts 3 weeks. That’s cute.

Anyway, back to business. Apparently we are going to have to play .900 or better ball the rest of the way to win the division. Strap it on and let’s roll….

Hard to figure how the Padres have struggled so much with that roster. Fer crissakes, they’re stacked.

Let’s roll…bring on the pussies! And the donuts! Just read an article from Baggs in the Athletic and it breaks down the “holes” in the Giants team. There aren’t many, except donut holes. Appears the boys have a hankering for donuts when the play day games. Not only do they have the best record overall, but also the best day baseball record (37-15 in day games – .712). So, again, bring on the donuts! And the pussies…

That was a fun article. There will be doughnuts for the rest of the season.

I just finished that article, it was hilarious

I also agree with Kap, there is nothing better than a cake donut and a good cup of coffee

I think Bochy would like to come back and manage the Padres again, but the game has changed so much.
He hasn’t been gone very long so he’s already seen most of the big differences.
Could he go along with them now?
    I don’t think anyone has a choice anymore…

    • snarkk said, on September 13, 2021 at 9:06 am

If they offer him $8 million a year for 2 years, he’d probably learn to love the stats. Padres need a steady hand, though Bochy isn’t the best with young players. He’d need a young staff, IMO, and a savvy bench coach who can sort through all the stats. I dunno, he should have plenty of money, a spread out in Poway or Escondido or wherever, his fishin’ boat and probably a wine cellar chock full of top end Cabernet, so that may be hard to leave at his age. He had some health issues he was managing when he left SF, maybe he doesn’t want those to come back with the stress from managing…

  6. Flavor said, on September 13, 2021 at 9:22 am

i don’t get why anyone like Bochy wants to come back. Dude has all the money in the world, all the world series rings, fucking go do whatever you want. Fish. Start a fishing company. Gamble. Travel. Whatever you want to do. Who knows, maybe this is what he wants to do. If it is, I doubt money plays into it

It’s in their blood for life.Managers and NFL QB’s have the competition in their genes there still about being adrenaline junkies to compete forever.Brady 44 and still winning SB, Even Scumbag LaRussa 76 has that team in 1st place? Bochy I can see returning maybe the only thing he wants to accomplish now is to finish with an above .500 career record? that might be all the motivation he needs..

    • Winder said, on September 13, 2021 at 12:01 pm

The first year Bochy started managing the Giants I used to get so mad at him because I thought he was half asleep. It took awhile to understand the way he manages which compared to most is pretty laid back.. He also didn’t really look to well the last year he was here. I don’t see why he would want to get back into it.

  8. unca_chuck said, on September 13, 2021 at 10:04 am

Bochy is obviously a baseball lifer. The game is so embedded in his being that I’m sure he would love to get back into the game managing a team like the Padres. Our media is pretty forgiving, and it is even more so down there. The expectations would be minimal compared to how badly they have done despite the spending spree so I think he could balance out the stress.

One of the national scribes (Nightengale?) a couple weeks ago said the Mets were set to hire Bochy as their manager this off-season, and that it was set in stone. Some FB clown was parroting this scenario and my take was, no way no how on God’s green Earth would Bochy go to New York. Even for stupid money.

    • snarkk said, on September 13, 2021 at 10:52 am

Bochy is smart, under that “aw shucks” and “wellllll …” persona. Agreed, he’s too smart to ever go to NY…

  9. snarkk said, on September 13, 2021 at 10:57 am

First game back at home from a roadie is often tough to win.
Giants have to stay focused tonight…

  10. alleykat69 said, on September 13, 2021 at 11:09 am

A team that has won 9 out of there last 10 seems pretty focused to me, there clicking on all cylinders..

  11. chipower9 said, on September 13, 2021 at 2:24 pm

Kershaw going for the bums tonight. They start a tough series with the d-backs in la.

  12. willedav said, on September 13, 2021 at 3:05 pm

Pads are still in WC race, and will get 2 openers instead of Dogs 3 best they faced over weekend. They would need a split, at least.

  13. willedav said, on September 13, 2021 at 3:08 pm

The advantage of starting season on road means ending At home. Giants have 13 home games vs. only 6 away to end regular season.

      KB rested.
With Yaz, we’ll have a couple of Ks, but hopefully no running over the LFer and/or RFer…

    • unca_chuck said, on September 13, 2021 at 4:20 pm

Ruf is the proverbial bull in the china shop. Yaz better loosen up his pipes before the game.

  15. unca_chuck said, on September 13, 2021 at 4:11 pm

Tough? LA is 11-2 vs AZ. They kill them almost as much as we do.

    • snarkk said, on September 13, 2021 at 5:48 pm

      Hey Chuck.
I see where Mostert tore knee cartilage, out for 1/2 season after surgery.
What’s with this guy? He seems to get hurt walking onto the field?
A Maserati is fast, but not if it’s always in the shop.

  17. willedav said, on September 13, 2021 at 5:31 pm

I hope Bochy continues ride off into sunset. Game is different, and just less enjoyable these days. Btw Manfred and Union, fans are gonna be the losers.
Why bother taking 6 months out of your life every year stuck around baseball players and Greg Papa’s of the world when you can travel or stay home as much as you like?

Disingenuous imo to bring up examples of LaRussa and Dusty as old guys having success.
both of them were signed to teams already built to win–ChiSox probably win in spite of TLR.

  20. willedav said, on September 13, 2021 at 6:56 pm

Padres have now given up 10 more HRs than they have hit–even with Tatis Jr. leading the league.
Btw, Chris Paddack, who had been listed as SP for thursday was placed on IL.
Replacement on roster is…none other than Shaun Anderson.

And 2nd on the team in RBIs….

      • chipower9 said, on September 13, 2021 at 8:14 pm

And IMO there’s more feast than famine…and he’s a damned good glove in the OF.

    • willedav said, on September 13, 2021 at 8:11 pm

it’s the bombs Loo. that’s why he’s in CF tonight and GD isn’t coming in until later to take over Ruf’s spot for D.
Kap or whomever is making the lineup for him, likes bombs.

  35. willedav said, on September 13, 2021 at 8:08 pm

Looking at B/R, Padres are only 10th NL in HRs and slugging pct. So what do they have tonight, couple doubles and 1 run. Giants are hitting the ball out of the park, and of course lead league in bombs. It’s what they do
Changing managers aint gonna fix that by itself, but they’re welcome to try

    • chipower9 said, on September 13, 2021 at 8:15 pm

Giants pitchers have a lot to do with SD’s limited success tonight. ng has been lights-out…

Fucking Raider game is insane. OT….

  41. unca_chuck said, on September 13, 2021 at 8:32 pm

Crazy ass Raiders game. They tie it with a 55 yard FG wit 0:02 on the clock.

  42. chipower9 said, on September 13, 2021 at 8:39 pm

Shaun Anderson with that 8.0+ ERA….come on down….

  43. chipower9 said, on September 13, 2021 at 8:41 pm

  45. djloo27 said, on September 13, 2021 at 9:24 pm

    Is it that simple?

  51. alleykat69 said, on September 13, 2021 at 9:44 pm

Another 6 straight wins would be sweet to make them 100-50 50 games over .500 it’s just unfathomable to believe, so why not ???

  52. djloo27 said, on September 13, 2021 at 9:45 pm

Giants look like a deep team.
    Anybody remember Donnie Barrels?

  53. xoot said, on September 13, 2021 at 9:55 pm

funny moment in the dugout after the game with Larry Baer and Farhan congratulating Kapler, but only Farhan following Kapler down the steps toward the clubhouse. Muslim, he may not drink alcohol; but I bet his exuberant team will enjoy celebrating with him.

  54. zumiee said, on September 13, 2021 at 10:10 pm

It’s basically official now that Kap will win the NL Manager of the Year award.

    • djloo27 said, on September 13, 2021 at 10:17 pm

      Should be unanimous…

      • alleykat69 said, on September 13, 2021 at 10:24 pm

About as unanimous as Farhan winning the executive GM award 🥇

  55. Irish Kevin said, on September 13, 2021 at 10:18 pm

I have been listening to the Giants on a transistor radio when there was no TV, I have learned to not get too high or to low with this game. But it sure is hard not to compare 2010 and this year. But I will never forget 1989, and 2002.

  56. mrsprtdude said, on September 13, 2021 at 10:43 pm

Nice win. So awesome to clinch already. Unreal SF has won so many games. Most of us will be off by THIRTY wins from preseason predictions. Astounding
