A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

And Then There Was One…

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on September 17, 2021

Yes gents it’s true. We’ve played 147 games and but one lone contest separates us from LA. Not much of a buffer, to be sure. The baseball season is long, nobody giving away a trophy for the nice Spring months we had….

Atlanta rolls into town and while I usually like the drag an east coast team takes to the best coast it’s just not happening with the Braves who got rained out yesterday. So they got their off day. LA has to go to Cincinnati. Eh, they might offer a challenge. The Reds don’t roll over the way AZ and SD does.

I have no idea what’s going to happen this month. I’m just so thankful we get some meaningful baseball. Sit back and enjoy the ride…….

It sure would be nice to see our bats come alive against the Braves.

  2. willedav said, on September 17, 2021 at 7:41 am

Pads bats finally woke up, scoring 16 runs in 2 games, with 14 hits off Gausman and co. yesterday and waxing Leone/pen buddies for 9 runs day before. Too bad nothing like that happened for them vs. LA.

Does look like weekend of no pen games.
Old supervisor of mine from Buffalo would have had one word for ending of Giants-WFT game. “Fixed.”

    • unca_chuck said, on September 17, 2021 at 8:09 am

Giants got +4 so they win with the FG or no.

  3. Bozo said, on September 17, 2021 at 7:41 am

What I wanted to see from Mr. Zaidi was for him to make the Giants better and to hurt the Dodgers in the process. And that is what he has done. Time for the players to take it the rest of the way.
    All Aboard!

  4. willedav said, on September 17, 2021 at 7:51 am

Wood is supposed to be ready to start Saturday game, on pitch count. He has incentivized contract based on starts he generates 10 outs, so see what happens.
Barrels might be back today too, per Ron Kroichick who was Chron beat writer for yesterday’s game.

    • alleykat69 said, on September 17, 2021 at 8:49 am

That’s not encouraging on Wood.Sure it will be lack of stamina/rust that makes this quickly turn into another bullpen game..

    • snarkk said, on September 17, 2021 at 10:17 am

He’s been directly asked; Wood won’t reveal his vaxx status before he got the Covid.
Until/unless he says he had a breakthrough case, IMO his selfishness failed his team and teammates.
      If I were a vaxxed teammate, I’d be furious…

    We need Clint!!!

  6. chipower9 said, on September 17, 2021 at 8:43 am

Good perspective, Flav. It is going to be one hell of a sprint to the finish. Go Giants!

And I agree with Charlie…we need Clint. Regularly…like every fucking day regularly!

  7. alleykat69 said, on September 17, 2021 at 8:51 am

That and my little midget from the Twilight Zone!!

    • chipower9 said, on September 17, 2021 at 9:38 am

Yes, Kat! We need to see that little fucker closing the door on the bums, EVERY day until the end of the season.

  8. willedav said, on September 17, 2021 at 8:56 am

Braves still need these games too as they are only 3 up on Phils. Despite leading NL East Braves haven’t won any more games (76) than Padres Reds or Cards, 3 teams fighting it out for WC #2.

  9. alleykat69 said, on September 17, 2021 at 10:03 am

Gotta hand it to Daniel and is Cardinals who I wrote off after being 44-46 at the A/S break as Padres were sitting real good at 53-40 and low and behold the Cards go 32-23 and the Padres fall on their faces and the Reds are still there as well, definitely a 3 way W/C sprint to the end.But something about that Cardinals tradition and always competitive has me thinking they take that spot..

    • zumiee said, on September 17, 2021 at 12:04 pm

As I’ve said before, the Cardinals are the relentless zombie team of baseball. They just keep coming at you.

      • unca_chuck said, on September 17, 2021 at 1:01 pm

Like the fucking Seahawks. Stories of their demise have been greatly exaggerated. They just keep coming back.

Pete Carroll is as old as I am–just turned 70 couple days ago.

Larry Bird, Bernard King and me all turn 65 in December.
Sugar Ray Leonard already did in May.
I’m not dealing with aging all that well.
        My own and other people’s…

I hear ya brother. I hit 65 next year.

  10. djloo27 said, on September 17, 2021 at 1:47 pm

Bryant is 7/16/.283/.864 in his roughly quarter of a season as a Giant.
Seems to get dinged up a lot and although he can play a lot of positions, he doesn’t play them all that great.
Boras might get him $300 million from someone, but I doubt it’s gonna be the Giants.
If he suddenly puts the team on his back and they go far, l guess that could change…

  11. willedav said, on September 17, 2021 at 1:55 pm

Bryant does help bridge the talent gap vs. LA though and shoves an OF platoon guy, of whom Giants have lot of, to the bench. Sure has some issues at 3b but also represents fill in for last year of Longoria deal. Another year in SF battling LA and SD pitching he might even be more productive.
Years, more than $$, would be key

    • alleykat69 said, on September 17, 2021 at 3:46 pm

Yeah I’m all about the years , 4 with an option 4/150??
Dealing with Borass the snake oil of agents could be difficult, but Zman plays that game well and was in the hunt if some want to believe with Bryce Harper, so that could work some dealing with Boras again possibly.

Police may have just entered the boyfriend’s house in Florida if you believe everything you see on Twitter…

    • Flavor said, on September 17, 2021 at 3:40 pm

you know what’s a trip about that case? I’ve seen a half a dozen pics of those 2 together and they look like different people in every one of them. Check it out. Tell me I’m not right.

    • snarkk said, on September 17, 2021 at 4:36 pm

Without consent, the cops need probable cause and a warrant to do that, so assuming a somewhat diligent judge, the police must have found some supporting evidence of something…

      • djloo27 said, on September 17, 2021 at 4:40 pm

According to one of the news reports, the police were requested by the parents to come to the house and speak with them – but not the boyfriend…

      • snarkk said, on September 17, 2021 at 4:41 pm

Whose parents? His? If they own the house, they can give consent for cops to enter if no warrant…

      • djloo27 said, on September 17, 2021 at 4:43 pm

        Yes, the boyfriend’s parents…

  16. djloo27 said, on September 17, 2021 at 4:45 pm

  17. djloo27 said, on September 17, 2021 at 4:52 pm

Says “a lot is happening” and “it doesn’t look good”
Maybe he took off and killed himself, too…

Looks like I get my wish for a different closer.
      Not this way, though.
      Another “oblique” strain.
Kap is not locking anybody into the closer role as of right now on pre-game radio…

      • xoot said, on September 17, 2021 at 6:33 pm

Doval and Castro should get their shots now, setting up for the closer mix, finishing off in non-close situations.

Reds up 3-0 over Dogs top 8. All 3 off Buehler in 6 innings.

    Um yeah no doubt.

  23. snarkk said, on September 17, 2021 at 6:38 pm

I’m wondering if this “oblique” with McGee is real, or they decided he was hitting a wall and needed some time…

  27. xoot said, on September 17, 2021 at 6:58 pm

the ump’s bad call on the slider at Freeman’s knees allowed the inning to continue, didn’t it? Should’ve been over then, right? Wonder if Webb got pissed off.

That missing person case has the essential thing it needs to get national media attention: the missing person has to be an attractive white woman.

    • djloo27 said, on September 17, 2021 at 7:56 pm

If Susan Smith wasn’t white, do you think her kids would still be in the lake?

  49. alleykat69 said, on September 17, 2021 at 8:14 pm

  52. xoot said, on September 17, 2021 at 8:22 pm

Buster’s wagging his bat behind his ear again, at least on that AB

  53. unca_chuck said, on September 17, 2021 at 8:52 pm

Ruf hit one out, foul, after his side tweak.

  54. Lurker John said, on September 17, 2021 at 8:56 pm

Loo, you’re as spry as ever. 65 may be looming but your mind is nimble and sharp. When you hit 60 or so it seems like it’s just one thing after another, at least for me. I guess you just do what you have to do.

  55. Lurker John said, on September 17, 2021 at 8:57 pm

I hadn’t hear McGee hurt himself. Not a good time of the year for that, especially with how well he’s been throwing.

    • unca_chuck said, on September 17, 2021 at 9:06 pm

I think it’s more of a BS injury to give him a few days off.

  56. xoot said, on September 17, 2021 at 8:59 pm

“frenetic gum chewing” pretty funny. Buster is definitely not using the same stance that gave him hits earlier in the season. HIs bat’s wagging behind the ear now.

  57. Lurker John said, on September 17, 2021 at 9:00 pm

What a revelation Wade has been. He’s got some serious pop. Where was that earlier in his career? That was a bomb he hit tonight and he’s hit several like that this year. He might be the steal of the year for any team. And he’s pretty good defensively too. Zaidi has the magic touch.

    • alleykat69 said, on September 17, 2021 at 9:08 pm

He got tired of watching Jaylin Davis get all the hype with his bombs. Now Davis lacks the hype sadly..

  58. Macdog said, on September 17, 2021 at 9:03 pm

Not a good night for the Brandons on the bases.

  59. alleykat69 said, on September 17, 2021 at 9:04 pm

Does Belt have a D letter scotch tape for Dumbshit..

  60. Lurker John said, on September 17, 2021 at 9:05 pm

Yeah, Kat, Crawfish has been amazing all around. His defense is as good as it’s ever been, spectacular on a regular basis, and he’s hitting the crap out of the ball. All time Giant as far as I’m concerned, their best SS ever, NY included.

    • alleykat69 said, on September 17, 2021 at 9:11 pm

No doubt LJ they’ve never had a SS as good as Crawford and as durable..

  61. unca_chuck said, on September 17, 2021 at 9:08 pm

Speier was up there defensively but nowhere near offensively. Crawfish gets the nod.

  62. snarkk said, on September 17, 2021 at 9:08 pm
