Why We Win And They Don’t
“This isn’t about you!!!”
Come on, tell me you can look at Fernando Tatis and not think that at some point his teammates weren’t gonna call him out on some self centered shit…
I looked at the standings today and continue to be dumbfounded by The Padres. 20 games out?!??!?!!
Ah, but then I’m reminded of Machado’s wise words: “This isn’t about you.”
Look at what Bryce Harper is doing. He’s literally murdering the ball. But his team ran Kap out of town. And Washington won it all WITHOUT him. Nice hair though, right?
The Giants have what Tatis and Harper teams will never have: a team pulling on the same rope not driven by an egomaniac.
We are lucky to have the guys we have…
Does this mean you don’t want Puig?
How do you roll out of bed at 6 AM on a Sunday and write this stuff?
Truly amazing.
Like Scherzer’s stats as a Dodger…
thanks. 3,757 of these bitches so far, and counting….
That is awesome. Tip o the cap to ya sir.
Just for some perspective, it took Henry Aaron 23 years to accumulate 3,771 hits.
Flavor will do it in half that!
Great post, BF. Said it well.
Winning the division and putting the Dodgers in the one-game Wild Card playoff would make the Dodgers the most vulnerable they would otherwise be in the playoffs, obviously.
Looking at the remaining 13 games, the schedule would seem to be slightly easier for the Dodgers, but it’s hard to predict what amount of effort the Giants’ and Dodgers’ opponents will put into those last three games.
Yes nice post BF..Not with Mad Max pitching. He’s like 7-0 in his 9 starts and they won those 2.He’s on a 36 inning streak of zero runs and the 1 run he gave up was unearned. No team wants to face him in a 1 and done game..
Doesn’t surprise me with the Padres, u have 2 hot tempered gangbangers and the team is sliding away frustration will set in. Smart of Croneworth to let the babies have it out, he’s already has a fracture in his hand and would like to end the season still possibly playing then get involved with these 2 malcontents..
Harper’s team is only a game out, fwiw and right there in WC #2 race. Phils have made NL East interesting, as Braves have now lost 4 in a row.
Leone got himself a save (with 0 Ks) and Rogers went back out there and had shutout inning. Good stuff
Another Casali shutout, and he blooped in the hit that accounted for only runs of game.
Seen others talking Posey dragging himself to finish line…and Bryant’s last bomb August 26. hmmnn
Willie, KB did hit one against the Padres a few nights ago…
ah thanks you’re right.
September he has 1 bomb and 3 rbis in 55 ABs. 5 doubles.
I don’t think he’s dazzling anyone.
Been kinda pedestrian for a star player so far…
Though I think his only hit since leaving Coors was bomb vs. Pads, GD did save a HR for Littell (right guy?) by keeping that ball from going out. what I saw (got a chance to assist at b-ball practice for first time in year and a half), D was great.
Not gonna defend Wood, but he pitched very well in his first game back and I’m sure Z/H mandated strict pitch count so he wasn’t gonna get a chance to hit and throw another inning. More outings like that would help great deal, regular and post season.
Jimmy G sucks. He’s missed 3 wide open guys for big gains.
Well he throws passes like all his receivers are Manute Bol’s height..
and yet, ended first half on great note. As beat writer Eric Branch said, “…he needs to learn to slide.”
and is also leading rusher today, yuck.
with 13 yds. team has 25, everything getting stuffed.
1. Darin Ruf (R) LF
2. Austin Slater (R) CF
3. Kris Bryant (R) RF
4. Evan Longoria (R) 3B
5. Buster Posey (R) C
6. Brandon Crawford (L) SS
7. Wilmer Flores (R) 1B
8. Donovan Solano (R) 2B
9. Anthony DeSclafani (R) P
The Giants are definitely not a young team…
If I had to pick a favorite player not named Crawford, it would have to be Flores. He has played pretty much everywhere the team has asked him to play, hell, he’s probably our emergency catcher as well.
Giants scored 4 times off Fried in first 4 innings last time they saw him in ATL last month, and Posey hit 2 run HR.
Unfortunately Braves rallied off Watson and Littell and won 6-5.
Littell gave up 3 run bomb to Soler in 7th. Wilmet hit solo homer off Will Smith in 9th but SF came up short.
No help from a Dodgers opponent again.
LA may lose 2, maybe 3 games top, rest of the way.
Starting pitching is off the charts now…
Sweet play at the plate.
Time for a Gyros dinger…
Way to go Disco.
Bryant sure looked like he lollygagged that one.
I agree with the sentiment that Bryant has been something of a disappointment. Maybe expectations were too high. He shouldn’t play center or right field, doesn’t have the speed. LF is ok. Not as good a fielder at 3rd as Longo.
I thought he’d be a better hitter for average and for power. Wondering if he has any injury issues. As for signing him, 4 years at $30 million? No way…
He’ll get 6 minimum.
Pass on that, and without even a second thought…
Shit.
Fuck. Turn on the game, double, home run. I’m out.
Disco couldn’t put anybody away in the 7th.
A Bass Baldy Blast…
For a troll, he was pretty creative.
Duvall was his boy…
He found something to relentlessly irk us with on a daily basis, which is basically the definition of a troll. It’s all we remember about him.
He was a jazz musician and knew guys i much admired. His choice of music was little too avant garde for my tastes. Adam Duvall has unfortunately turned into a very valuable player–K/K even credit his defense, not something he was ever known for as a Giant.
Lisle Ellis is an interesting, accomplished guy. He tried his best to get along here. He has a Wikipedia page. Maybe you can edit it, explain while he’ll only be remembered for irking you. lol.
Littel is lately turning into an HR giver upper…
Flashback:
Chambliss’ pennant winning homer in ’76 was also hit off Littell’s first pitch…
That Kap move didn’t work.
Winning a series is usually enough, but not these days.
The “cycle” is a big deal to old ballplayers like Kruk and Kuip.
The Giants had an outfielder named Fred Something who hit for the cycle about 12 or 13 years ago. It didn’t do much for his career.
Zum, you’re going to get James fired up. (smiley face goes here).
Yeah, I swear I remember him well, but I’m blanking out on the last name. I’m not going to look it up. I’ll just wear my shame. 🙂
Fred Breining. JK. Was it Fred Lewis aka Freddie Electric?
yes.
Yes!
I didn’t believe that stuff about Bass Baldy being a professional musician, but hey, maybe I was being too jaded.
I do remember that while he was posting everyday about Duvall, some Flappers got a discussion going about who were the greatest bass-players of all time, and he didn’t join in on the discussion, which seemed kind of odd for a guy claiming to be a professional bass-player.
He was involved in a group show at rather small place in SF around time he was posting here, with his name listed among performers…so I do believe he really was a professional musician.
Gabby found dead in Wyoming…
Just awful.
Lisle Ellis Wikipedia:
“After moving to the United States in 1992, he settled in San Francisco, working with Glenn Spearman from 1992 until 2001. He lived in San Diego from 2001–2005 and New York City from 2005 to the present.”
He told us he was living in Arizona, but whatever, I don’t care all that much. I remember the Arizona thing because he was talking about having problems with scorpions, lulz.
you’re spouting trump-like disinformation and lies now. His wiki page apparently hasn’t been updated since he retired. He lived in Fresno for a while when he posted here, and still played a bit, and then tried Ariz. No telling where he is now. Check out his discography, etc. In any event, only trolls post about what they don’t know.
Was Bass Baldy SOAD?
I can’t believe the cops didn’t at least track Brian Laundrie after he returned without her.
No Chuck. SOAD was John (?) from Walnut Creek (like I know where that is).
BB is Lisle Ellis…
The handling of the boyfriend is just incredible.
Think he’s already killed himself?
No, I think he’s gonna try to get to South America.
wow the Tennessee Tuxedos knocked off the Seachickens? makes the whole weekend.
AZ dodged a bullet.
I’m Abraham Lincoln, the 16th President. Read all about me on Wikipedia.
I just didn’t like the way that Baldy came on the blog and immediately went hard after BF daily about Duvall, in a rather trollish way, IMO. That’s not cool. Join a blog and immediately go hard at the guy whose blog it is, on a daily basis? Sorry, whatever else is true about the guy, it wasn’t cool, and it bugged me.
“He tried his best to get along here.”
I disagree.
Ali documentary starts on PBS tonight. As a historian, Ken Burns is the master of superfice, but his huge budgets allow him to fill his films with great archival stuff. And, it’s Ali . . . .
I don’t miss BB. Hey, you aren’t gonna like everyone, aye?
Got a pic of Freddie Electric somewhere. And Ray Ray/Rowand from what must have been 2007.
Part 1 of Ken Burns Ali was great.
