Back To A Single Game Lead
Every time I start feeling an inkling of hope that we might possibly be able to close this deal, dread and despair drag me right back down again. For a brief moment yesterday I had dreams of the Rockies finishing off LA after we had tied SD. Then it all fell apart.
Now WE are the ones being fed to the head of the volcano in Nepal. Ugh.

And who would have thought 60 days ago let alone 30 that there is a real possibility that the one game wild card game would likely be against the Cardinals???

Well, we have all known for a long time now that his was going to be an epic battle between us and the bums. All I can say is I would rather be one up than one down.
And as I mentioned at the end of the thread last night, over the course of ours and the bum’s last series, we each played three games and the bums gained no ground. Yeah, they didn’t lose any either, but at least we have maintained our ever so slim lead.
And yes, the Cards are fucking insane right now. Not only have the Cards won 12 in a row, but they just swept a four game set against the Brewers in Milwaukee, and are only three back of the brewcrew for the division lead.
StL is 7.5 back of the Brewers.

The Giants sure are making this interesting. It is nice though to be analyzing just about every play and pitch at this time of year. Baseball is fun again.

Ending was unfortunate, but to review: Pads used the sac bunt because they were at bottom of the order with Kim and Caratini, 2 of worst hitters on team, at bat. Myers was on deck so even the idea of walking bases loaded after the bunt would not have been good. The ball barely got by drawn in Crawford and run scored.
But as to Giants half…Belt is their best hitter, had single earlier off Darvish and they have 3 of their best up with man on second and no outs.
James has shown link before that indicates very little real difference in scoring the run there with a bunt–reason being giving up the out lessens ability to score.
There is no way I’m giving up an out with my best hitter(s) at the plate for a bunt. Wade did this the other night with man on 1b and K/K were on him for it, rightfully so for such a good hitter.
Giants on previous day scored 8 runs on 0 HRs and 12 hits. They are fully capable of plating runners and have been all year, with or without bombs. Kap did the right thing letting hitters swing away; his hitters failed.
Posey is their best hitter, not Belt.
Is Posey is up, I’m fine with hitting away, plus he’s slow as a snail, a bunt makes no sense because he might get doubled up if he makes a poor one.
I’m still in for what I said, and nothing you can say will change my POV on it…
Understand, but bunting is not smart baseball, which is why Kap didn’t do it.
Fun fact: Dodgers and their superstar lineup score more runs than anyone else in entire NL–and they have 3 sac bunts from non pitchers the entire season. Taylor Barnes and McKinstry have one each and none of their top 8 hitters have any at all.

29 runs for SF at Coors in 3 games/allowed only 12. This was series right after they beat Buehler on Sunday night ESPN game, and got 9 game win streak rolling.
Coors is great place to let it fly I expect the Giants lethal LU will do it again there.I’m actually expecting Dickerson to have a big series here, he just downright kills Rockies pitching at this park, and he wrapped up his rehab in nice fashion with a 4-4 HR night, so he’s locked in good.
Flappers that might be down on Bryant I say forget about he’s a very multiple talented player that the Giants don’t have (Wade getting there for sure but the track record is still small) with his consistent big league power and OPS..To me he’s not completely healthy (wrist?back tightness? oblique?) but he’s a gamer trying to play thru it, and maybe he goes off this weekend to silence some critics.Hell this time of your the whole team is dragging to the finish line that’s what 162 games will do to you! Not sure if this was covered, but Giants recently put Moranta on waivers to create a spot for Kazmir on the 40 man roster. He cleared waivers and is back with Sac.
I had high hopes he would be a key piece to the bullpen this year, but he has struggled to regain FB velocity and command.
Hius injury last year was pretty awful. He”s likely got another 8 months of rehab to get back to his former self. If possible.
Actually, that big injury happened at the end of the 2019 season and kept him out all of last year. He then had an elbow injury that set him back this year.
So, he had been pitching this year…just has not been good. I hope he can return to form…always liked the guy. Thought he would have potential to close at some point.
Moronta’s injury last year was pretty awful. He’s likely got another 8 months of getting right to get back to his former self. If possible.
As mentioned above, the injury that required surgery was at the end of 2019 and made him miss all of last year. He had a set-back earlier this year with his elbow. He has been pitching and trying to return to form for some time in Sac…just was not happening. Hope he can come back.
That’s if doesn’t balloon past Bartolo in weight and can still be effective..

Btw saw the beautiful Barbara Bain today on old Perry Mason rerun from late 50s. She is still alive at age 90, and interestingly enough, so is composer of Mission Impossible theme pianist Lalo (real name Claudio from Buenos Aires) Schifrin. Fantastic show, great theme. Haven’t seen any of the sequels/movies.
