Woo Hoo!!!!!
Gotta keep this one short and sweet, got a long drive in front of me and I’m late to work. Oh well. Anyway, this one feels different that the others and we are in completely uncharted territory as one of the favorites to take down our 4th beauty.
But let’s worry about later. For now I’m happy to laugh LOUDLY in the faces of LA who won 106 games and still have to burn their best pitcher to make it to the dance. Too funny.
Yeah, pretty amazing accomplishment. For 6 months they’ve done everything they had to do to achieve their goal and I’ll be damned if they didn’t do it, against all odds. But now the hard part begins. Winning the WS still seems improbable to me, but I’m going to enjoy this division crown for the next 5 days, because they earned it while putting up the best record of any Giants team in 138 years. That’s remarkable.
GO GIANTS!
WOO FUCKING HOO! National League Champions! And as hard as the dogs tried, they could not catch us! That’s Resilience!
As I mentioned at the end of yesterday’s thread, I signed-up to compete with my dog months ago, so was out doing that yesterday. In the sport (barn hunt) you cannot have your phone on you when you compete. I had a block of time and was able to catch the first four inning on radio, then did not see the score again until it was a final. I let out a big WHOOP at that moment and folks were looking at me a bit strangely, until I was able to tell them the Giants had clinched. Then there were several other whoops.
Incredible year. Somebody fucking pinch me.
I am not going to get ahead of myself and spin on what might transpire. This team is not a fluke, and has done a GREAT job of staying in the moment, and focusing on the game at hand. I truly think if they continue to do what they have to date, and the players continue to execute, that we have as good a shot as anyone.
I did not see much of the thread yesterday, but saw Loo’s comments about why he wants us to face the bums.
What does everyone else think? Who do you prefer that our Giants play?
I see Loo’s logic, but I think it would be sweet to see the bums, after winning 106 games, get bumped in a one-game play-in, so I have mixed feelings.
Even though we won 107 games, it was a battle to the last day. I’d think that’s in our favor going into the playoffs.
I’ll be in New Orleans during the divisional series, so game time starts will be an hour earlier for me, gotta love that.
I think if they do end up playing LA and beating them, it’ll be easy to look back and say, “I’m glad it was the Dodgers.” But before the series, and during, it’ll be stressful. Urias, Scherzer, Buehler. In a 5 game series, that’s a tall order. Those fuckers went something like 40-13 to close out the season. That makes the Giants’ achievement even more impressive, but beating them in a short series is going to be tough.
The Giants’ record was 21-6 in September, a stretch not without its challenges. And overall this season, head-to-head against the dodgers, it was 10-9.
If the Sock Man’s glove was an inch shorter it might’ve been Cards-Giants tomorrow…
It’s gonna be tough alright, but what the hell?
We’ve seen Giants-Cardinals 4 times and even though that looks like an easier matchup on paper, we should know by now that paper don’t mean shit. We may never have a chance to see this again.
I’m sure fans back in 1962 thought they’d see another Yankee-Giant WS at some point. None other than Willie McCovey consoled himself with that thought…
oh me too. Giants had plenty of talent, multiple HOF players, and couldn’t get back.
They ended up with a winning record against every team in the division ( of course Arizona and Rockies not saying much) which is something to proudly hang your cap on..
One cool moment on the field was seeing Posey&Farhan embracing with such admiration for each other as Posey realizes Farhan has incredibly given them both another playoff run for glory! And a special toast to the Bore Core who were far from Boring all year!!
In the FWIW department, the GIants were 2-4 against the Cards, and they include noted Giant killers Goldie and Arenado. 10-9 against the Dogs of course.
Fuck it. It’s out of our control, but the hoopla around the Giants Dodgers would be pretty cool.
And putting them down would be a great thrill.
OK OK…after reading your comments, I too would like to see the bums. WTF…it will be historical. While we, the bums, and Cards have been hot of late, I was not aware that we lost the season series to the Cards.
All said, bring on the bums. If we can take them down, with their superior pitching staff, well, that will be something to hang our hats on (hell, beating either team in the divisional round would be huge).
But after all of this. Winning the division by ONE game on THE LAST DAY OF THE SEASON, it would be pretty fucking satisfying to eliminate the bums.
The one-game difference, of course, was the 10-9 series win over the Dodgers. Otherwise, they both went 97-46 vs. the rest of the teams. Here’s how it went down, with the +/- for the Giants.
Padres: SF 11-8 / LA 12-7. -1
Rockies: SF 15-4 / LA 13-6. +2
D-Backs: SF 17-2 / LA 16-3. +1
Braves: SF 3-3 / LA 4-2. -1
Phillies: SF 4-2 / LA 4-2.
Mets: SF 5-1 / LA 6-1. -.1/2
Marlins: SF 4-3 / LA 3-4. +1
Nats: SF 5-2 / LA 7-0. -2
Brewers: SF 3-4 / LA 4-3. -1
Cards: SF 2-4 / LA 4-3. -1 1/2

A’s: SF 4-2; LA 2-1. + 1/2
Angels: SF 3-1 / LA 3-3. +1
Rangers: SF 3-1 / LA 2-1. + 1/2
I’m impressed with the breakdown MacDog,well done sir!
Ditto.
Very interesting.
SF has to thank the Cubs and Reds for playing LA tough…
Nice work Mac, but not for the ADD crowd…
I’d be really happy to see Cards wipe LA off the map. One game series is one thing where anything can happen; going 5 is quite another and will be battle of pitching staffs and overall talent. Sooner LA is done and out of the way the better.
Agree.
I just down’t want to see Arenado or Goldie in the playoffs. They are known entities that routinely kill us.
Amd the Cards are the fucking Cards. They never go away. I would rather play the Dogs, as they seem like the more likely team to falter in the clutch.
Just gotta say that all the way in Utah I carried my Giants hat around with me yesterday, wore it, and ran into friends from the Bay who also had their gear on. We were rooting from all over!
RACH!
I don’t care who we face, but I hope that the wild card game goes 15 or 16 innings.
The bums were 24-24 in one-run games; Giants, 31-17. Keep em off the bases, keep em in the park.
I 100% want to face LA. I actually think St. Louis is going to beat them but I WANT to face LA. Our guys aren’t intimidated by LA players the way Giant fans seem to be. And knocking them out would be the sweetest thing I can imagine. And come on, SF/LA post season? WTF who wouldn’t want to see that?????
Agree. I am on board…
I’m up for playing LA. History and all that. Chances are slim this would every happen again in my lifetime.
Plus, Giants know them inside/out; SF knows what to expect at the Latrine; it’s an hour plane flight, not 3 hours, so time zone/fatigue is not a factor.
And, LA may not have Muncy available for some or all of the series, or even if, maybe he’s not 100%.
Though LA’s starters are scarier.
Plus, St. Louis has been on fire for the last 20+ games.
LA too, but it has feasted on crap teams and disinterested teams (Brewers), so it’s recent run seems to me not as impressive.
And, yes. There is the wild card of Arenado and Goldy.
They’ve been on fire, so from past history you have to expect they’d torch the Giants, as usual …
If someone should beat Giants, I’d hate most for that team to be LA. Second choice anyone else.
Atlanta
Giants have repeatedly taken care of the Cards in the post season over the past two decades.
Another time may be tempting fate…
Mets declined their option on Rojas — the most obvious managerial move. They’re busy creating some other position in the organization for him, away from Citifield, probably. His mournful tv dugout demeanor is the worst ever. He looked like he’d been fired half way through the season.
The new era Farhan Giants don’t give a shit about the franchise history vs Goldy or Nolan A. And only Buster, Belt and Craw remember 2012 and 2014. The dodgers, though — I bet they all want to beat the dodgers now. I would love that.
They may not give a shit about Goldie and Arenado, but they should.
of course they know how good Goldie and Arenado are, I didn’t say otherwise — they just don’t buy into the irrelevant oh, they ALWAYS kill the Giants stuff.
But, they always do…
If the Giants lost to LA, at least SF would lose to the season’s objectively next best team in MLB.
The Cards, not so much. They’ve just been the hottest team lately.
I wouldn’t be all butt hurt with losing to LA. That’s transitory.
Hell, LA basically kicked Giants ass for the entirety of the ’70s and ’80s. Losing in an NLDS to them wouldn’t be great, but at least SF was in the NLDS.
The A’s kicked Giants ass in the ’89 WS; I rarely think of that. Just getting to that WSeries was awesome after nearly 30 years since the last WS…
I would like to see us and the Brewers in the Championship series. It would be sweet to knock the Dogs out of the playoffs but it doesn’t really matter to me who we face.
The thing that concerns me is that the Giants pitching is not as good as 2010-12. Probably on par with 2014, but Bum was awesome then. Hitting is much better, but if the pitching is so so, and the HRs don’t come like recently, then it’s trouble vs. a top opponent…
True, but the game has changed so much in such a short time since then, the comparison may not be relevant.
And if there was ever a season where trying to make sense out of anything was pointless, this is it.
107 wins????
These Giants might hit 4 or 5 dingers in a game, or maybe none or 1. Unpredictable. I’m just saying in that case, the pitching they have, while certainly it’s been very good, is not as predictably and dominantly good as the 2010 and 2012 teams. Good pitching usually beats good hitting…
Tom – the Giants have proven all year that hey do NOT have to hit the long ball to win games. Not buying it that if they don’t hit HRs, they’re toast.
Plus, our pitching is fucking damned good. The Giants are 2nd in all of MLB in ERA and WHIP. And the bullpen has been incredible.
107 wins…just keep fucking doing what you’re doing.
Let’s Roll!
Doval is reliever of the Month.
https://www.nbcsports.com/bayarea/giants/giants-camilo-doval-named-nl-reliever-month-september
of course it would suck if LA took us out. But that’s what you have to risk in order to be able to do the ultimate: take them out.
TBS will handle the broadcast for all NLDS games in both series…

No shit…
I see times listed for the first two games: Game 1 at 9:37 p.m. ET/6:37 PT; Game 2 at 9:07 p.m. ET/6:07 p.m. PT.
that’s incredibly fucked up for you east coasters
Actually works out good for me.
Dude, it’s business as usual.
No problem here…
Well how about it fellas? I was at the yard Friday and yesterday. Absolutely electric yesterday. I’ll also be there for game 1. (Hate that I still can’t post from my phone)
It doesn’t really matter who we play, all of these teams are good. I’d be less worried about the cards honestly. I feel like they’re due to cool off soon. Maybe the peaked too early on they peter out. Either way, now the real fun begins.
Sarge, the Giants averaged a pitiful 21,000 per home game this season, roughly half a house in a 107 win season. A far cry from the years of alleged consecutive sellouts.
Do you blame COVID entirely for this?
I’m sure it won’t stop the the post season games from selling out, so what happened to the fan base this year?
I think there are a few factors at play. COVID has definitely played a part. For a good majority of the season public transportation options were limited. Driving to and parking in and around the ballpark are even more of a pain than before, parking has gotten ridiculously expensive 40-60$. And concession prices have gone up too. Beers are 13-17$!
Also, a lot of people are still working remotely and many have moved away entirely. So a lot of the tech bro crowd who frequent games aren’t around. Tech companies surround the park.
Thanks, Sarge.
Those are big city prices.
I would never drive to a game…
Brought home 2 winning games! Nice job Sarge!
I do what I can Kat.
TBS doing the telecasts?
That already a victory,NO JOE BUCK!!!
I was drinking Keystone Lights yesterday.
My friend was trying to push Grolsch on me…
“so what happened to the fan base this year?”
A lot of them didn’t feel comfortable being in a crowd yet during this pandemic. I really think that’s the reason.
I can’t even imagine riding BART yet.
Time for a flapper trip to the arcade
Woohoo! Idk what I did, but I managed to log back in with my phone! It’ll be so much easier for me to post now.
Great point about the parking situation, Sarge. I hadn’t really thought much about that. I can’t imagine how crazy that’s gotten with the loss of parking due to the development project.
Every parking lot in America has attendants who can be bribed to stash your car somewhere and get you in and out quick. Not just sports venues. Hospitals are big participants…
There’s still relatively cheap ($30.00) parking near the park.
Yeah I guess there might be. If I do drive in, I park on 3rd and Harrison. Some nights it’s 20$, some nights it’s 40$ it really just depends. That’s still about a 15 minute walk to the yard.
Bart is just a fucking hassle after a game. Muni is packed, 25 min walk then a 45 min ride to the creek.
Chuck how late does bart run after the games? The wife and i are going Saturday
They’re running regular schedule. Bart runs until about midnight.
I heard Facebook and Instagram were out of commission for several hours today.
Somehow life went on without all the “likes” and “lols”…
And when the fuck do they plan on capturing that Laundrie scumbag?
You can’t take a crap without a camera on you anymore.
How fuckin’ hard can it be?
Agree, what a shit show. Still think he’s dead somewhere?
Think they woulda found him if he was dead.
The buzzard guy was very convincing…
As for the NLDS, I don’t really care who the Giants play, although it’s always satisfying to see LA lose early and often. Kinda feel that if we can get through the divisional series, there’s a very good chance to reach the World Series. I think St. Louis or LA will be the toughest competition in the NL for this team, so it’s good one of them will be gone. The last time the Giants won the division on the last game of the season (against SD, no less), they pretty much rolled in the post-season (beat Atlanta 3-1, Philly 4-2, and Rangers 4-1). I like the odds.
It’s pretty quiet regarding Muncy’s injury.
There’s this:
““There was some testing, but it’s still sort of unclear what it means,” manager Dave Roberts said after his club completed a sweep of the Milwaukee Brewers.
“I think it’s still painful. We don’t want to close the door on a potential down-the-road postseason appearance. We’re going to kind of see how he responds the next few days and see where it takes us. … I think it’s deeper than the soft tissue. From what I hear, the X-rays and other scans, it’s still unclear. Which doesn’t sound right, but it’s the truth.””
That sure clarified everything.
I guess he doesn’t want STL to know much ahead whether Muncy will play. Not sure what that does to advantage LA, but whatever…
