A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Who Will We Play?

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on October 6, 2021

Normally, I’d say a team with 106 wins is very likely to win their play-in game. But don’t understimate the emotional drag this epic lost division will have on Roberts and his band of baby blue idiots. They also don’t have Muncy. And Adam Wainwright, goddamn, at 40 years old is doing things we used to see old pitchers in the steroid era do. The Cardinals are the hottest team in baseball and they have an excellent chance of knocking off the Dodgers tonight despite the rather lopsided career at bats vs each pitcher.

As stated over the past couple of threads, bring on the bums. Should be a helluva game any way you slice it.

Mother fuck learned last night that as we are flying to LA Friday night will be mid-way when game starts (who has the series Fox ESPN?) and then wedding reception starts right at first pitch on Sat….FUUUUUCCCCKKK!!! And then of course could have been in LA for a potential Game 3 but flying out that afternoon and probably miss that while frickin game…

    • Flavor said, on October 6, 2021 at 7:14 am

      Awful

      • Giant Head said, on October 6, 2021 at 11:08 am

        So mad

      • Giant Head said, on October 6, 2021 at 11:10 am

On top of that was just invited to play Riviera (where the wedding will be) Fri afternoon but can’t ditch my wife and fly in early😭😤

      • djloo27 said, on October 6, 2021 at 3:08 pm

When it comes to weddings, GH, always remember these 3 beautiful words:
        WILL NOT ATTEND

      • Giant Head said, on October 6, 2021 at 3:55 pm

Boss’ daughter:(. Was scheduled for April 5 last year which would have been perfect then King Covid fucked that up.

      • djloo27 said, on October 6, 2021 at 3:09 pm

        Especially if it’s yours…

  3. willedav said, on October 6, 2021 at 7:16 am

No team has more pressure on them than Dodgers. They were favored to win Division and didn’t; at one point they were tied for first with SF and couldn’t ever regain it after Giants retook it.
Now they could be bounced out of playoffs in an anything can happen game. Scherzer hasn’t been very good last 2 starts either–maybe couple guys that have tortured Giants over the years get to him early.

    • Flavor said, on October 6, 2021 at 7:26 am

      Agreed

    • chipower9 said, on October 6, 2021 at 8:29 am

Agree. And not only that, but a lot of the “experts” are saying they are still the favorite to win the WS. Pfffttt…

  4. willedav said, on October 6, 2021 at 7:17 am

Read this elsewhere–the guy who twice handcuffed Giants, soft tossing Cards LHP Kim, isn’t even on their post season roster.

    • Flavor said, on October 6, 2021 at 7:39 am

They can adjust their roster for the NLDS after this game tonight

      • willedav said, on October 6, 2021 at 8:18 am

yes but he’s only made 1 start since August 29th. He only threw 9 innings total all September; Brewers pounded him in a start early in Sept (7 hits 4 runs in 1 inning) and since then he’s only worked an inning or 2 in relief out of the pen.

      • Flavor said, on October 6, 2021 at 8:51 am

i was just pointing out that your comment about “not even being on the PS roster” is inconsequential to whether he could be on the NLDS roster

      • willedav said, on October 6, 2021 at 8:58 am

And you’re right. Giants couldn’t hit him before in losing season series to Cards. Soft tossing LHPs seem to be problem for Giants hitters–I’m just saying he’s only been 1 or 2 inning guy lately and maybe less threat..

  5. willedav said, on October 6, 2021 at 7:35 am

Padres pounded 37 yr old Scherzer last outing sept 29th at Petco (11-9 game) for 11 hits and 5 earned runs in 5 innings, a bomb each from Caratini and Machado.
Start before that in Coors he only lasted 5 innings as well and also gave up 5 runs.
    Combined last 2 starts: 10 innings 17 hits 3 HRs 10 ER.

  6. Flavor said, on October 6, 2021 at 8:50 am

me and Kruk are in lockstep on this one

  7. Giant Head said, on October 6, 2021 at 11:12 am

Watch Scherzer throw his arm out tonight…lol but I totally want them. Would love to be in LA talking shit up 2-0…

  8. alleykat69 said, on October 6, 2021 at 11:13 am

Bring on the Dodgers is what I say!
2 Storied Rivalry Franchises meeting in the WLDS opening up at Oracle is the best of the best, make it so Captain Picard.. And then when the Giants kick their asses, The built in excuse will be if we only had Max Muncy!

  9. snarkk said, on October 6, 2021 at 11:45 am

If LA gets bounced tonight, and the Giants go onward to win the WS, all to the good.
But, then there will be the detractors that will say, well, it was a coin flip that LA got bounced by STL, and if LA had won the play in coin flip, they’d have crushed the Giants. You KNOW that’s what some would say, including national media. So, I’m all for SF playing LA, and bring it on, let the chips fall where they may. We’ve got 3 recent championships in the bank, so let’s go forward with a kick butt attitude…

  10. unca_chuck said, on October 6, 2021 at 12:06 pm

I really think the Dodgers are leaking oil and are about to break under the pressure. Fucking Roberts is a hack manager, and St Louis is just red-hot right now. Throw in Arenado and Goldie, and fuck it. Bring on the Dogs.

  11. unca_chuck said, on October 6, 2021 at 12:12 pm

    Jerry

    • chipower9 said, on October 6, 2021 at 2:10 pm

Yeah Baby! Captain Trips…rocking the Giants gear.

      • unca_chuck said, on October 6, 2021 at 5:01 pm

I think that was opening day 1993.when they sang the anthem.

  12. unca_chuck said, on October 6, 2021 at 12:41 pm

Good news is the man-on-2nd-in-the-10th rule is gone forever.

    Let’s hope tonight goes 18 . . .

  13. Winder said, on October 6, 2021 at 1:06 pm

No matter who we play and even if we make it to the big show we will still be underdogs. The fucking media loves just about everyone except us. That’s alright though since we have been here before. I hope St. Louis kicks the Dodgers ass tonight. I think we got a better chance against the Cards pitching.

  14. snarkk said, on October 6, 2021 at 1:27 pm

Anybody with reasons why the Giants get no national media respect? Even after 3 titles in the last decade?
When the Niners were riding high in the ’80s- ’90s, they got the respect and national media attention they deserved. So, it can’t be some kind of “San Francisco” bay area “liberals” bias or something?
Doghair games when LA is on TV are on just as late in the East as are Giants home games, yet LA gets tons of run in national media. The other day on the MLB.com landing page, there was an article about the pending post season with images of players, one from each post-season team, but NOT one from the Giants, though they have the best record in all of MLB. WTF?…

    • sandog said, on October 6, 2021 at 2:01 pm

Liberals completely control the media, so it can’t be that. Not enough star players is my theory.

      • unca_chuck said, on October 6, 2021 at 5:08 pm

Hah! That Rupert Murdoch, what a flaming lib. Media is run by corporate entities now. Ain’t no libs in there.

  15. sandog said, on October 6, 2021 at 1:57 pm

G, if you need me as your +1 at Riviera I AM HERE FOR YOU.

    Go Cards!!!

  16. willedav said, on October 6, 2021 at 2:44 pm

Pads fired Tingler, no surprise. But team is messed up so i hope Bochy doesn’t even pick up the phone.
1b C and corner OFs suck. Pitching sucks–they gave up 114 more runs than Giants did, and scored 75 fewer. They have bloated contracts for unproductive players they are stuck with and fanbase that bough cool aid of being overhyped–problem is GM.

    • willedav said, on October 6, 2021 at 4:24 pm

by 1b I mean Hosmer, not Cronenworth who is solid.

  17. Giant Head said, on October 6, 2021 at 3:54 pm

Have you all started the Bochy to SD clock???

    • djloo27 said, on October 6, 2021 at 4:44 pm

Hopefully, Bochy is enjoying his retirement.

  19. Irish Kevin said, on October 6, 2021 at 4:47 pm

So I decide to watch ESPN AND MLB TV on Sunday after all the playoffs were decided, and who did they key on…not the two teams that had 100+ wins, oh no, let’s concentrate on Yankees, Boston. They must have given them 20-30 minutes of analysis time, then they get to the Giants, Dodgers and give them 5-10 minutes. I really hope the Giants win the whole thing.

  20. snarkk said, on October 6, 2021 at 4:49 pm

LA‘s power bats May prove decisive if it’s close late. LA is always tough on Giants in bottom 9th. But in extras this season, LA hasn’t been great…

  21. unca_chuck said, on October 6, 2021 at 5:04 pm

The thing is, in a short series, St L. is burning their best pitcher tonight. I don’t really care, I just want to see a 23 inning game.

    • alleykat69 said, on October 6, 2021 at 5:19 pm

Doubt the East Coast Flappers really want toothpicks holding there eyes open at 5am if it goes that long..

      • Pawlie Kokonuts said, on October 6, 2021 at 5:25 pm

I don’t have cable so ain’t watching. But my friend, a Mets fan, is bringing his Roku over Friday.

  22. djloo27 said, on October 6, 2021 at 5:05 pm

Impossible for me to root for either team tonight.
I want to play the Dodgers but if they lose, fuck ’em…

    • Pawlie Kokonuts said, on October 6, 2021 at 5:24 pm

      succinct and correct

    • sfsarge said, on October 6, 2021 at 8:02 pm

Exactly! I didn’t realize how I much my body would not allow me to root for the bums until I found myself wanting to them win this morning and as I watch the game it’s a no, if it were possible for them both to lose that would be fine by me.

  29. Pawlie Kokonuts said, on October 6, 2021 at 5:26 pm

Personally? I feel the Cardinals have peaked. Or hope so.

Crawford makes that play book it..

  31. Pawlie Kokonuts said, on October 6, 2021 at 5:34 pm

I am forming a distinct dislike of the Padres organization. I read some of the statement by AJ Preller after he canned Tingler or whatever his name is. Total corporate, self-serving bullshit bingo. He should fire himself. Though the manager did suck, with those results. CRASHED.

  51. alleykat69 said, on October 6, 2021 at 7:28 pm

Dodgers catcher Will Smith is wearing one of the new catchers mask that has 4 built in small shock absorbers at the forehead to help on direct hits .Wonder if this mask will replace the goalie mask that Posey and others use? Guess it’s all preference unless u get your bell rung and this one works better, time will tell which one you get concussed less with

I said before that I don’t really care who wins this game, even in trying to figure out who the Giants would more easily beat in the NLDS. But I’ve decided, being a life-long Dodger hater, that my desire to seem them lose as often as possible over-rides my need to have the Giants beat them. Will be happy just to see them gone, whoever does it.
