A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

“Bigger That The World Series”

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on October 7, 2021

Oh baby here we go! I don’t know much but I know this has the potential to be the greatest sporting moment of our lifetime. Texts from my buddies seemed to appreciate the weight and gravity of what is upon us:

Is this also possibly setting up as one of the greatest sporting letdowns of our lifetime?

Absolutely.

But the gambler in me say LET’S GET IT ON!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No matter what happens I am all in on this series. Five Niner Super Bowls. Three recent Dubs championships. And our Three Beauties from 2010, 2012, and 2014—all pale in comparison to the pending excitement I have about this upcoming series with LA….

Did not know of the pinch hit homer run record and the accomplishment of the bullpen re 6 pitchers with more than 50 IP and sub 3.00 ERA. Big advantage in our bullpen IMO. Webb needs to take down Game 1…

Agree on how epic this series is, Flav. First time in history these two meet in the playoffs.

Great read from the LA rag, Head. Thanks for sharing. I am quietly optimistic with our chances. I think it will be a battle and a classic series.

    Let’s Roll!

Bigger? Nah only if pissing contests matter=it’s only first round. Goal of all 8 teams left is to win it all and you have to beat 3 of them to do that. So 7 others are gonna be disappointed and go home mad when they lose. Sure beating LA would be great but if they did and then lost in NLCS or WS it would still be a blow. And with aging BC guys that might not get another shot, they’d be bummed. Belt might not even play in post season.

This is Kap in uncharted waters, so let’s see how him and his team does. As always you don’t have to be the best team, just the one playing better right now.

‘History’ being since 1994. So, 28 seasons. I see Kap even leaning on the Bore Core for playoff insights.

Game 1 is huge. Gas man needs to keep his pitch count down in game 2.

    Giants in 4.

    • unca_chuck said, on October 7, 2021 at 8:40 am

And of course 1951 and 1962. Those were 3 game playoffs.

  5. unca_chuck said, on October 7, 2021 at 8:32 am

Bigger than the WS? No, but it’ll be pretty close. This isn’t the old days of the NFL where the NFC Championship game was the real Super Bowl. There’s still a long road even if we get past the Dogs.

Guaranteed my nerves are gonna be shot for the next few days. We have stepped up all year no reason to stop now.

It’s not the biggest series the team that ends up on top of the mountain is the team with all the offseason bragging swag. But it is the SF Giants against the LA Dodgers in the most bitter rivalry (Ask Marichal &Roseboro) In baseball history, and for the first time ever squaring off in a playoff series ( that still blows me away) with out of control (my daughter lol in the LA game we went to,FYI we were tied up record wise we won never looked back though the pesky shits from down south never let us chill, but I’m thinking mojo was present) fans on both sides dissing out insults will be the norm in this one but it’s expected it’s the Giants/Dodgers and intensity will be off the charts!!⚾️💪🖤🧡

  8. djloo27 said, on October 7, 2021 at 10:10 am

It’s a shame Roseboro’s not alive for this.
The reconciliation and friendship that he and Marichal forged is a really nice story.
Imagine Juan throwing out the first pitch with Roseboro catching it…

    • snarkk said, on October 7, 2021 at 10:19 am

Maybe Roseboro’s got a relative who can do that. Marichal maybe can still crank one up there…

      • djloo27 said, on October 7, 2021 at 10:53 am

I would expect to see some of the old timers from 1962 appearing, but gotta wonder how many of them are still up to it – especially if travel is involved. Could be depressing, too.
Here’s a bunch of the living, with their current ages…

        Vin Scully – 93
        Willie Mays – 90
        Maury Wills – 89
        Felipe Alou – 86
        Sandy Koufax – 85
        Frank Howard – 85
        Ron Perranoski – 84
        Orlando Cepeda – 84
        Juan Marichal – 83
        Gaylord Perry – 83
        Bob Bolin – 82
        Tommy Davis – 82
        Ron Fairly – 81

      • snarkk said, on October 7, 2021 at 11:07 am

        Fairly died in 2019.
He’s probably not up to it.
I never much cared for his announcing for the Giants. Slightly less annoying than Lindsay Nelson.
It wasn’t even the ex-Dodger thing, he just wasn’t very good, IMO…

  9. snarkk said, on October 7, 2021 at 10:18 am

It’ll be intense and meaningful in a historic way. And, if you’re a fan on the losing side, it’ll be a long-term bummer. But, it’s not bigger than being in the WSeries. Win that, and you get one of those “beauties” that live in the trophy case forever. Win this thing starting tomorrow, and you get bragging rights, and a ticket to the NLCS…

  10. snarkk said, on October 7, 2021 at 11:36 am

I’ve warned Mrs. snarkk that starting tomorrow, I’ll likely have big mood swings over the next week…

    • chipower9 said, on October 7, 2021 at 12:05 pm

Let’s hope that those mood swings are over about the next three weeks….

  11. unca_chuck said, on October 7, 2021 at 12:14 pm

This isn’t like some phenomenon that has eluded the 2 teams since 1883. The ONLY way for these teams to meet in the playoffs began in 1994 with the advent of the wild card. Being in the same league for decades, and then the same division for 24 years precluded any playoff meetings until ’94.

Yeah, it’s intense and it will be nail-biting, but the historical significance only goes back 28 seasons.

    • djloo27 said, on October 7, 2021 at 12:24 pm

Can’t remember us ever meeting SD, COL, or AZ either, right?
But those wouldn’t be very special.
      Not enough hatred…

      • unca_chuck said, on October 7, 2021 at 12:39 pm

Yeah, it used to be you couldn’t meet a division rival until the NLCS. I’m sure it has happened, but not to us.

  12. sandog said, on October 7, 2021 at 12:28 pm

I’m gonna bust out the game-worn Yamid Haad jersey for work tomorrow. It only gets brought out for extra special occasions such as this—similar to Judge Smales “Billy Baroo” putter.

Speaking of putters….is it soft spikes only for us tomorrow at Riviera, G?

    I like today’s selection at Bardball: http://bardball.com/

  15. willedav said, on October 7, 2021 at 3:54 pm

Stros lineup might be only one with more hitting prowess than LA. McCullers shutting out Sox through 7.

    • snarkk said, on October 7, 2021 at 3:59 pm

      Stros are tough.
Dusty just might make it through all the way to the WS…

    • snarkk said, on October 7, 2021 at 4:59 pm

McGee for only 6-7th frame duty against 6-9 spots in the LU.
Dovall is my closer, or in highest leverage situations…

      • unca_chuck said, on October 7, 2021 at 5:53 pm

        Where’s Rogers?

      • Flavor said, on October 7, 2021 at 6:50 pm

i dunno, the rest probably did the overworked McGee some good. And he’s probably got a more reliable mindset than the wet behind the ears Doval. But I’m cool with whatever Kap decides.

  16. zumiee said, on October 7, 2021 at 7:28 pm

I look forward to this series as much as I would for a root canal. Let’s get this root canal done. And put a crown on it. 🙂

  17. Pawlie Kokonuts said, on October 7, 2021 at 7:47 pm

    Well said.

  18. mrsprtdude said, on October 7, 2021 at 8:12 pm

Giants win 1/2 in SF, schuerzer wins game 3, we beat there bullpen or Goslin in game 4, Webb takes us home in game 5. Book t!
To echo Snarkk…., Mrs Dude knows to tread lightly the next 3 weeks! We will be at game 2 where Gausman kicks ass! My daughter flying in from Az too!

    GO GIANTS!

  19. djloo27 said, on October 7, 2021 at 8:51 pm

I see writers everywhere are now comparing Doval to K-Rod.
Wonder where they saw it first…

djloo27 said, on September 17, 2021 at 9:37 pm (Edit)

Need Doval to turn into K-Rod…

  20. alleykat69 said, on October 7, 2021 at 9:23 pm

    Nice call Loo!
As much as I think Doval could be the man and close, playoff pressure is ratcheted by 💯 and Kapler going with his duo of Rogers,McGee all year still might be his play. Not saying it’s right, and if Doval blows Dodgers away things could change, I’m agreeing what BF said earlier,”:Doval may still be alittle wet behind the ears”

Geez u guys see that steal of home by Rays Randy Arozarena ? Amazing jump like he was shot out
of a cannon, lefty pitcher slow on his delivery and it was all over, he scored head first without a tag! The Rays have it all going, strong starting pitching, bullpen, they all throw gas ,more sluggers then last year, solid defense, there my pick in the AL for the W/S hopefully against the Giants, and yes shit ratings, but the 2 best need to play period!

First time since the late great Jackie Robinson of the Dodgers pulled it off against the Yankees and Yogi Berra still arguing over the safe call with Jackie from heaven to this day! Of course Jackie was safe to going in feet first though..
