A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Staring Out The Window Waiting For Nothing

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on October 16, 2021

Taking a break from sports till the Breeders Cup. Read Kat’s idea to keep Bryant. Started agreeing with the reasoning but don’t feel like talking about the Giants. Here’s some baseball for ya tho if you really need a fix. Not sure if it will post properly it’s from the dreaded Facebook.

mm I’d be careful about letting 5 games vs. LA, who has most talent for position players and pitching of anyone, define or ignore what went on for 6 months and 162 game season.
And realize Giants played Dodgers dang tough all year and might have gotten closest to knocking them off of anyone left in playoffs, by shutting them out twice and beating Scherzer.

One trend to note about pitching is that more and more teams are using openers (Dodgers did this a lot too without Opie and Bauer) on regular basis due to dearth of quality SPs. Another given is that rest of SPs work fewer and fewer innings.

Due to lack Giants have of quality starters at higher levels (though low A guys did great) wouldn’t surprise me to see most of starters return. Finding quality on open market when dang near every major league team, contenders especially, is looking for it will be difficult.

Key then is getting most out of middle inning guys like Alvarez Leone and Garcia and shoring up that end of staff and I can see Z/H focusing on acquiring more of those type of players they identify as likely to succeed.

It really did suck losing to the Dodgers but our future does look bright. Maybe next year we can return the favor. Pitching is the key just like it has always been.

our relievers really fell apart the last couple of games especially with not being able to throw strikes. Maybe they got enough post season experience to grow from that but one thing I’d like to see are more relievers with more playoff experience. That shit does matter.

The walks as usual killed our chances. Doval hitting Not-Trea-Turner sucked as he hadn’t been doing squat. Then again neither had Bellinger but that shouldn’t have mattered.

DeSclafani had fine enough season overall. Teams only hit .225 off him ERA was 3.17 he gave up fewer line drives than ever and increased ground ball rate.
and those numbers would look even better without including Dodgers. He beat them once Sept 3 going 6 innings and shutting them out on 2 hits. Otherwise, including forgettable playoff game, they lit him up.

Signed to 1 yr $6 mil this season and made 31 starts over 167 innings WHIP of 1.09 and 8 Ks per 9. Can you afford to keep someone who struggles with LA, despite what how he performed vs. everyone else?

Compared to who? There are guys on the market. Better him than Gasman tho. His first half seems more of an outlier than reality.

3 Starting pitchers the Giants should have they’re radar on and all left handed ( to much dominant RH pitchers in rotation and if they lose Wood they need 1-2 in the rotation to balance out the staff)
are Carlos Rondon ,Robbie Ray,&Edguardo Rodriguez these pitchers have upside and the type Z/H would likely go after I would think..

Epic comeback by Okla St. outscoring Texas 16-0 in 4th quarter leading 32-24 inside 2 minutes.
4th down stop, then running in TD, then an int. Texas with 1 yd rushing in 4th Q, vs. 140 given up.

In Socal and seeing LA shit everywhere now. Sucks. Signing a FA is a risk. I’d sign Bryant because we need some god players, and the options limited. I’d sign belt too. We lost because we couldn’t replace the power and, as Craig pointed out, playoff experience. Yes LA lost Muncy, but they have 6-7 very good if not great hitters. We don’t. 2 year deal. If he will take one. Key will be deciding if this team is one to continue building with. If yes, then i’d go get mad max. 2 big years with an option. A Bauer like deal. We have the cash and need an ace. keep him from LA too. I’d keep Gausmann to. 2 good seasons. Unless he wants “ace-like” $$. If we get a #1 (Max) and Webb, Gausman might be one of the best 3rd or 4th starters going if you aren’t LA. The we can stop gap / farhan the other 2, which he has proven to be quite good at.

If they were gonna sign Belt, why didn’t they do it around the time they re-upped Craw?
He was never better or more popular with the captain stuff…

And they haven’t done Posey either.

      Curious.

Nobody’s gonna know for a long time what the market will be for any of these guys.
Fun to kick around and then see how wrong we’ll mostly be…

I get Craig not wanting to talk baseball. For me talking next year helps. I’m over the bad umpires. Still feeling the sting of the magic ride being over. I’m with Loo. Kick the tires on what they might do and see what happens:)

Assuming Cueto is bought out, he will have earned $135 million as a Giant for which he won a total of 39 games – roughly $ 3.5 million per victory. I know he had TJ, etc.
For $90 million we got 33 wins out of Smarja – about $2.7 million per win.
    Lesson learned?

  13. alleykat69 said, on October 16, 2021 at 6:22 pm

Then again on the other spectrum the Giants got great value
out of Gausman,Disco,Wood and of course Webb where they discovered
their Ace for many years to come..

And yes the 25 million they save on Cueto will go along way to replenish some SP as well..
