A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Good and Bad

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on October 20, 2021

Ah, the highs and lows of sports. Sadly, the Dodgers came back and won last night. Once again hitting led the way to victory. Funny how often that happens, eh? But the Warriors took down the Lakers! Woo Hoo! I still don’t know how they did that.

I stayed up for the Dubs game last night. After so many missed open shots and missed three-pointers, and completely mis-matched on size, how could they win?? Oh yeah they are old and slow on defense rotations. How bad did Westbrook look?? Key play late Westbrook does not bother to box out on Wiggins who corrals a missed Lee three pointer and they swing the ball around ending up in Wiggins hands on the perimeter and he buries the 3 putting up 12 game over.

Really liked what Bjelica gave with his double double in limited minutes. Think he was 6-7 from the floor. I did not remember him being this big so his size will be a big factor coming off the bench.

Iggy looks in amazing shape and Poole looks in fighting shape ready to take it to the next level. Said before the game to a friend that he can score 20 a night. What does he do last night? Scores 20…and all that with Curry off his game shooting about .250 but still ends up with triple double.

Still wish they kept Bradley. LA got him because at least he tries to defend. The rest of the team not so much.

Braves manager says they are going with opener tonight. In Game 4 on road in NLCS…wow game sure is different.

Starling Marte just scares me as 1 yr outlier contract season wonder in 2021. It was his best season in last 5 yrs even though he only hit 12 HRs. He stole ton of bags, yes and has high OB career .345. He’d never stolen more than 33 in long time so it seems like showcase I can still do this thing. Btw, the team that led NL in steals was…Padres so how much good did that do them?

Over the last 5 years, Bryant has been better hitter every year except for 2020 and has always hit for more power. Marte will definitely be cheaper option, as he made $12 mil 2021 and just turned 33. Better player going forward than guy 3 years younger? idk

    • Flavor said, on October 20, 2021 at 10:06 am

Marte would be a terrible add. Let Farhan work his magic he’s not going to add a big bat. And he doesn’t need to he can do what he always does

  5. unca_chuck said, on October 20, 2021 at 9:35 am

$24 mill compared to $300 mill?

    • Flavor said, on October 20, 2021 at 10:07 am

      i just don’t think for a second they’re adding Bryant. It’s not Farhan’s style

  6. chipower9 said, on October 20, 2021 at 10:26 am

As shared by WilleD and I yesterday (this from an article in The Athletic, Bryant will not be a priority. They will kick the tires, but SP is the priority per Zaidi.

Other priorities are Posey (either accepting his option or negotiating a new deal), and Belt. But again, Z said SP would be the priority.

Giants should make a huge push for Marcus Seimen to play 2nd base the upgrade over LaStella ,Barrels,Flores would be great with his power numbers.I don’t see Barrels coming back anyway,Mr.Ed yes definitely to valuable with more versatility to play more positions then Barrels could..
Now if they add the DH then Solano adds value but this old team has plenty of options for that spot..

  8. chipower9 said, on October 20, 2021 at 11:09 am

Zaidi has said they will exercise the options on Mr. Ed and Alvarez. So, you can basically book it that Wilmer will be on the club next year. Barrels is a different story. I agree…he may have played his last game as a Giant.

I trust Z, Harris and the rest of them to navigate the off-season and put the team in position to challenge again next year.

Only 120 days until pitchers and catchers report.

doesn’t current CBA expire Dec.1? I think in Baggs column he mentioned this, and that bunch of important stuff (luxury tax, arb years etc.) might not be sorted out by then. Which could mean not lot of action on FA front.

  10. Winder said, on October 20, 2021 at 12:18 pm

Pitching is the #1 priority for this team. I read that Athletic article too and Z makes a lot of sense. I doubt Boras would let Bryant take a hometown discount and who knows what that would be anyway. My guess is he goes to NY. I still get caught up in the ‘lots of offense’ game in baseball but pitching is where you win championships. I have loved Mays my whole life and still thinks he’s the best to ever play the game, at least in my lifetime. But IIRC he was terrible against Gibson, Koufax, and quite a few others, and that just goes to show how important pitching is.

  11. alleykat69 said, on October 20, 2021 at 1:11 pm

Z/H definitely have top priority with the pitching staff with only Webb locked in.
He probably will try and resign Disco, what about Marcus Stroman to replace Gausman?about a wash in salaries. Then go after both Robbie Ray,Edguardo Rodriguez, there dumping Cueto so theirs plenty of coin coming off the books.
    SP Webb (1)
    Stroman (2)
    Ray (3)
    Rodriguez (4)
    Disco (5)

  12. Bozo said, on October 20, 2021 at 2:23 pm

If I remember right, pitching was our top priority at the deadline. We did get Watson and I have to believe he would’ve been a huge asset against LA, but still I wonder what SPs Zaidi couldn’t get.

  13. unca_chuck said, on October 20, 2021 at 3:34 pm

The Lakers will steamroll the fair to middling teams but struggle with the good ones. Bjeiica surprised me. Don;t know that much about him but he looked very solid out there. Double double off the bench was nice.

And Poole really was the catalyst late in the 3rd and early in the 4th when the Warriors made their run.

  14. unca_chuck said, on October 20, 2021 at 3:36 pm

AP is reporting that the Giants plan to exercise Posey’s $22 mill option. If he wants to continue playing.

Which I guess would shake out to mean he isn’t planning to play in 2023. So no 2 year deal. Speculation though.

And they are looking at a qualifying offer for Belt.

    • snarkk said, on October 20, 2021 at 4:42 pm

I’d like to know their rationale on giving Craw a 2 year extension, but not so to Belt…

      • Flavor said, on October 20, 2021 at 4:52 pm

he gets injured every single year and he’s going to be 34 next year. I’m not going to kill myself if they resign Belt but this is how Sabean got tricked so easily. Dudes have a great year and he’s handing out deals like it’s Christmas. Posey and Crawford, fine. But do we really need to bring back every old guy?

      • snarkk said, on October 20, 2021 at 5:43 pm

I agree with the idea of a QO, not a 2 year deal.
He’s injured too much. Somebody may offer him more than the $18 million or whatever The QO is this year, but I don’t know which teams might. Maybe Texas?…

  15. Flavor said, on October 20, 2021 at 4:50 pm

    idiots.

    • unca_chuck said, on October 20, 2021 at 5:15 pm

Wow. Like the stupid fucking ump the other day, read the goddamn room.

      TIme and situation.

Astros and Dusty with the upper hand heading back to Houston…

Really pathetic down 7-1 just dumbass to do! Should of taken the wheels off the cart 🛒 instead..

    Suck it Urias!!!

  17. Giant Head said, on October 20, 2021 at 6:32 pm

Belt one year $10-$12 mill quite fair. Offer Posey same deal as Craw. Why would we not resign Gausman. Don’t see us signing two other pricey starters. Not sold on Rat. Stroman will get better get bigger dollars that Farhan won’t spend. Wouldn’t Wood sign for a reasonable price and would still be a good signing?

No KB then Semien is the must in my mind.

    • Giant Head said, on October 20, 2021 at 6:33 pm

      Ray not Rat.

    • alleykat69 said, on October 20, 2021 at 6:59 pm

Captain Belt is not going to take 10-12 mil. That’s not even enough gas for his SS Minnow run for the 3hr tour…

    • unca_chuck said, on October 20, 2021 at 8:08 pm

Posey is getting his $22 mill.

      • djloo27 said, on October 20, 2021 at 8:44 pm

That’s insane money for 18/56/.304 and tremendous D in 113 games.
But for Buster, I wouldn’t object.
If Bart looked remotely ready, I’d consider the buyout and sweeten it up to keep him around…

Puts a smile on my face watching Uranus get ripped a new anus!!
Even better watching them after giving up the 5th run on a sac fly and
the runner Rosario hung out to dry between 1st and second after Uranus
cuts it off and nobody’s at 1st to take a throw from him lol 😂

  19. mrsprtdude said, on October 20, 2021 at 7:53 pm

The more time that goes by the more bummed I am the hitters didn’t show up. LA pitchers hittable, we just didn’t. Losing Belt is mostly what domed us. Who would have ever thought I would ever write that?

    • djloo27 said, on October 20, 2021 at 8:48 pm

      I’m with you…

  20. Macdog said, on October 20, 2021 at 8:38 pm

Here we go again with the Braves, same deal as last year. Let’s hope they don’t choke again.

  21. djloo27 said, on October 20, 2021 at 8:47 pm

So the first day the parents go looking for the Laundrie creep, they find him in about 10 minutes.
    How amazing…

    • alleykat69 said, on October 20, 2021 at 10:21 pm

The asshole parents should be on trial and convicted they’re as much scumbags then they’re scumbag son!!

  22. mrsprtdude said, on October 20, 2021 at 9:33 pm

Losing Turner will hurt. lets hope Braves finish them tomorrow!

It’s not too late for you west coasters to wish Juan Marichal a happy 84th birthday.
There was never anyone like him, before or since…

  25. alleykat69 said, on October 20, 2021 at 10:39 pm

Didn’t know it was his Birthday Loo, HBD Juan Marichal !!! Had the pleasure to see the Dominican Dandy pitch as a kid at Candlestick he truly was amazing to watch.Had the fastball, curve, slider, knuckle curve, changeup, even a forkball which I’m still not sure how u throw that one? all from different angles as well, his signature high leg I tried to master as a kid never could lol..
I always laughed when Lon Simmons would ask Juan who’s English wasn’t that good back then, “How you do you feel today? And Juan would just say “I feel real good today Lon” like he’s rehearsed that line over and over but it was always funny with his accent..

  26. djloo27 said, on October 20, 2021 at 10:58 pm

Threw a screwball, too Kat. The man was a freak of nature.
When he first came here, he lived on ham and cheese sandwiches because that was the only thing he knew how to order. I hate that so many people only seem to remember him for the Roseboro incident…

  27. alleykat69 said, on October 21, 2021 at 12:10 am

Uhh yes the screwball how did I forget that one,Damm he had every pitch in his arsenal at any time!
Yeah it still irks me that the Roseboro incident had to be the incident that nobody forgot instead of how talented
a pitcher he was and just as dominant of stretch and longer then Koufax did,but the sportswriters just screwed him over when it came to winning a CY Young.Hell I don’t think he ever finished higher then 8th? when he’s winning 25 games what a joke and prejudice stance they took blackballing Juan!
