Chop Chop Chop—oween!
Juuuuuuust about there. One more win till the cheaters are bounced. For some reason it doesn’t feel like tonight’s the night but hopefully it will be. Atlanta deserves this. They deserve it for their perseverance throughout the year and they deserve it because they did what we failed to do: send the dreaded Dodgers to an early Winter slumber.
Not looking good for Dusty.
But, if he can gut out a win tonight, I give them a shot to take 3 in a row…
Put a box of toothpicks in Dusty’s mouth their done..
Dusty is jinxed, first the infamous Russ Ortiz ball incident ,then the famous witness protection kid Steve Bartman play. It’s just not in the cards for him.Sad I like Dusty but just don’t see it, in the end cheaters never win..
Barring a miracle, Dusty is the new Gene Mauch…
The ninth inning last night was dramatic. Big gutsy performance by Smith.
If Atlanta can finish the job, the NL will have won 8 of the last 12 World Series.
In 20-20 hindsight, it’s turned out to be a mistake not trading Bum & TFLR at the 2019 deadline…
Letter to editor in LA Times, from one Sterling Buckingham:
“Perhaps the Dodgers could use Dave Roberts as the opening manager for 4 1/2 innings and then use a starting manager for the rest of the game.”
If it doesn’t already exist, I bet there will soon be an in game “Manager’s App” that will have every analytic stat programmed into it right up to the second that will make every decision for the manager. Pitching changes, shifts, pinch hitters, everything…
That’s why we need to keep the DH out of the NL. The software will never be able to bring itself to call a bunt.
Zumie…. Foo Fighters inducted into Rock&Roll HOF
And it was the legendary Paul McCartney who introduced them
In as they sung “Get Back” together..
I love McCartney but enough already.
I think it’s time for him to “Get Lost”…
Well, he’s doing a lot of media appearances right now because he has a new book out. And so it goes. 🙂
I don’t know what he may have said about Lennon, but I have a feeling Yoko might have something to say about it at some point soon…
Kings look flat in an early game, but only trail the Mavs by 6 at the half. The Mavs don’t look all that great, either.
Both teams shooting lots of 3-pointers, bricking lots of them, and a 53-47 halftime score. Today’s NBA.
Jerry Remy passed away. Sad news. He was much beloved by Red Sox fans.
I have to admit I never liked his broadcasting style. Maybe it was just his very thick Boston accent. That accent grinded on me.
Also he had 3 children who at various times were arrested for assault, including one serving life for murder. Gotta wonder about his parenting abilities.
Adam slam!
Up and Adam.
The Houston TrashCans are in serious trouble.
and somewhere in Arizona the call goes out….”Fuck you Big Flavor!!!!”….Lisle is right again
Or whatever his name is.
I’m curious, Zum, why don’t you think that’s who he is?
My memory of it is that he never said he was that guy. And when some Flappers tried to get him to acknowledge he was that guy, he disappeared off the Flap.
Plus, he seemed to behave like a troll, IMO. The only reason we all remember the Duvall thing is because he pounded on it continuously. The repetition of it was trollish, IMO.
And I guess it’s no big deal to BF now, but I thought Baldy was being a jerk to BF, and that bothered me.
I guess I missed some of that. But I do remember when he first started posting it was with that name.
I just find it odd that someone would troll using an out jazz bass players name.
Baldy’s persona on the Flap just seemed off, IMO.
I just…..expect people to be real people on the Flap. We don’t all have to be best friends, obviously, but I like the realness of everybody. Many of us have now met each other in real life. It’s such a great community of folks. New people coming in should have some respect for that, IMO.
what’s really weird is that zumiee continues to lie about it. what kind of piece of dung does that? Maybe Lisle said a bad word about Paul’s bass work.
The saga of Bass Baldy can be easily resolved by researching the archives…
Whatever, Xoot.
Thankfully, this is the last night we have to put up with the chop. In ’92, the early days of the chop, I remember watching Jays-Braves World Series Game 6 on a Saturday night, the Braves fans chanting and chopping all game long, but to no avail as the Jays won in 11 innings to win the title. The next day I was at NY Giants-Seahawks in Jersey. The Giants were going nowhere in the second and final year of the Ray Handley error, and the Seahawks were on their way to 2-14. Not surprisingly, the game was living down to expectations. At some point, probably the 2nd half, the Giants fans, with that Game 6 fresh in their memories, started chanting and chopping “RAY MUST GOOOOO, RAY MUST GOOOOO.” Maybe it was one of those you-had-to-be-there moments, but It’s still one of the funniest things I’ve ever seen at a sports event.
You’re too young to remember the famous “Goodbye Allie” chant for Allie Sherman.
It was quite excellent and maybe ahead of its time…
I’ve been wondering why the Braves organist plays Delta Dawn when Kyle Tucker is coming to bat. I only know the Helen Reddy version, but there’s also a Tanya Tucker one, so mystery solved.
Ha, yeah, before my time but heard all about that as a young NYG fan. Sherman from what I’ve read was really an interesting guy.
Freeman got all of that one.
Wow. Stros scratch back into the game and Valdez gives up a bomb to Freeman. Derp.
Minter has been lights out.
I guess I jinxed him.
Stros for the lead!
Albies sure does strike out a lot.
Everyone it seems strikes out a lot.
They’re like saturated fat. If you exercise …
Was Lisle his first name? Or last name? Asking for a friend.
I remember his name as Lisle Ellis, Paul. Who is/was a jazz bass player. Kind of a weird name/persona to pull out of the hat to troll with, but what do I know?.
Oh, I think that was him, doubt he was a fake troller. I remember some short discussions about Bisbee AZ ’cause I had just been down that way. Or something like that. Anyway, no matter. The Flap (and Splash before it) has had (and still has) some characters.
Yeah you right and for the record, my real name isn’t Bozo. 🙂
I was looking through some threads from June 2016.
BB was making solid contributions…
Baldy’s references to his buddies/collaborators in Rova seemed legit to me.
Braves threw the towel in bringing in Smyly..
He tosses slower then Zito and I thought that was impossible..
Was reading a story about the “anchor outs”, people who live on houseboats near Sauasalito… illegally, I guess. Homeless encampments in the eyes of local authorities and well-monied residents, even though the boats are technically their homes. Movement is to eliminate them, due to problems and threats to environment, etc. I don’t know about them, but does anybody remember the collection of “houseboats” along that small waterway near China Basin? They were there for years, long gone now, I think. Right near that driving range (I have no idea if that’s still there). They were defiinitely “encamped”, probably illegally, but they weren’t bothering anyone, and they had grown an interesting little subculture. I used to go hit buckets of balls and eye the anchor-outs almost enviously. Kind of a peaceful life.
I predict you will get many responses on this one, Paul…
I moved from SF in 2008, at the time I lived at 17th and Texas so after many games I stumbled past the boats at Mission Creek. Don’t know if UC Med pushed them out or not, but I thought they had some sort of long term deal. Haven’t a clue if the driving range is still there.
Right, Mission Creek, couldn’t remember the name…
Haha, yeah, there are some lawyers here that might have a different take. I shouldn’t have said “they weren’t bothering anyone”, maybe they were, but they weren’t bothering me, so… Funnily enough, here, as lockdowns slowly start to end at different paces in different places, there are some people (some locals, some foreigners) who left where they were and headed to Vung Tau, my fav little beach get-away a couple hours from Saigon, but Vung Tau has no hotels open yet and apartments can’t take new tenants yet, so these vagabonds have taken to squatting in a couple of abandoned resorts on the beaches outside of town. I stayed at those resorts long ago, they were nice. Now they’re boarded up and taken over by nature. Wonder how long the local gov’ts will allow them to squat. My guess: not long.
Back to Houston.
The Series That Nobody Likes lives on for another game.
Dusty lives to fight on in game 6.
This ain’t over yet…
I wonder who’s the last player to hit a World Series grand slam for the losing team, may have to look that up.
