Unfortunately Back To Houston
Snitker owns that one. I get that they’re short on pitchers but it was clear Davidson didn’t have it, couldn’t find the strike zone and had no business in a game like this anyway. When you’re handed a 4 run first inning lead you have to do everything you can to hold on to it. He just kept rolling with this dude till it was too late. I don’t think Dusty managed his pitchers much better. Letting Valdez hit for himself with a man on 3rd down 2 runs was essentially giving up the inning. But Dusty’s never been too good with managing pitchers, has he?
Ah if only Bass Baldy hadn’t disappeared we might be able to get to the bottom of this mystery. Zumiee is right, me and that dude didn’t like each other. But most of my venom was directed at him because I thought he was being an idiot about Duvall and not taking into consideration park factors. Well, good ol’ Bass Baldy got the best of Big Flavor on this one. And I have no problem admitting when I’m wrong about something. If more people admitted they were wrong about things this world would get along better….
I started this series pulling for Dusty but with each game I find myself pulling for the Braves (even with their loss last night). More importantly, I have been hoping to see a good series. So far, so decent.
Let’s go 7 and beat Houston in front of their fans.
Me too Chi. Besides beating LA, Morton getting 3 outs with a broken leg nudged me over to the Braves.
can’t we just give studs like this a huge raise?
Astros scored 9 runs with 12 hits 6 BBs and 0 bombs. Braves had Duvall slam and Freeman HR and couldn’t hold lead. Smyly didn’t help them either.
There was definitely an argument here with BB, but I don’t recall it. I do remember exchanging jazz music posts with him and him advising me to check out certain musicians I wasn’t familiar with, in a more avant garde style than I prefer. This was style of music he preferred to play and a group he was in did play in SF as part of weekend feature at a small venue. I didn’t go and never saw him perform before he moved to AZ.
Funny thing about Duvall is Giants aren’t only team to give up on him.
Reds traded him away to Braves for 3 stiffs including Matt Wisler.
Braves themselves let him walk and be an FA after 2020.
Marlins signed him in Feb and then traded him back to the Braves for a backup C who hit .157 for them.
Only in baseball IMO can you be up 3-1 in your own ball park and think the pressure is all on the other team and you can cruise to a title. Then bam the whole series is flipped with just one win and still down 3-2 but with 2 games waiting for you at home aka Giants-Cards in 2012.
I still hope the Braves win but I am glad that it didn’t end last night. When it comes right down to it I would like to see both teams choke but someone has to win.
Always like Dusty, even as Dodger and Braves player. Reminded me of well dressed guys I’d see at Bay Meadows walking around with cocktail in their hands.
Something I’ve never quite understood is relationship btw Cora and Hinch in terms of other teams FOs being willing to hire them after they served suspensions, zero pushback from players on AL teams they played against, and the relative success both of them have had as managers, with Boston and Detroit.
No one said we can’t hire these guys for what they did or I’m not playing for these a-holes? The opposite seems to have happened.
After Chris Bassitt recent revelations, seems fans are more vitriolic vs. Houston guys than MLB players and mgmt
Bonds got frozen out altogether by Selig and no one ever hired him again after last season as a Giant, even to DH so don’t tell me baseball owners and mgmt. didn’t collude there.
Mac did you find answer for 9:23 last night?
Giants fans remember light hitting Chuck Hiller with slam for them in 1962.
Yes. Wanna take a guess? A clue: Like it or not, it’s from one of the most famous games in WS history,
Canseco in the Kirk Gibson game.
Shouldn’t have needed the clue, but I did…
That was the one that hit a camera over the wall I believe…
Loo got it!
That’s how it always goes. Blame the people. Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain.
Selig and LaRussa get into the hall of fame while the players face the backlash. The sportswriters play into it. Plausible deniability.
Didn’t Bass Baldy briefly emerge from exile within the past year or two?
not that I saw. He disappeared one day after I had given him some extreme business.
Extreme Business lol, it actually reminded me before your time BF
Of “The Leave it to Beaver Show”
Wally and Eddie sometimes Lumpy, would always say just giving the Beaver are his friends the “Business” to pick on them.
I’m sure you remember this classic about 20 seconds in…
one of our convos was about bass player Jymie Merritt, who was in great Art Blakey groups of early 60s before forming his own groups. He was born May 3 1926 and died year and a half ago April 10 2020. One of his sons was in Conan O’brien’s band. BB was familiar with the late Mr. Merritt but wasn’t aware of prowess of his son.
Maybe around those days of year I might have made post about him–jazz station I listen to will mention b-days or recent deaths of famous musicians like that and play songs artist had made.
I went back to the archives like Loo mentioned and it looks like he was posting in 2015 as Lisle Ellis and sometime in 2016 he was bassbaldy. Besides logging in through WordPress couldn’t you login through FB? That’s what I figure he was doing until he got set up in WordPress. I didn’t see where he and Flav got into it but he did have some lively discussions. I checked out his facebook page and from what I was able to see, he lives in Brisbane AZ and he’s played with some pretty heavy hitters over the years. His discography mentions he has played with Cecil Taylor, Paul Bley and Rova among others. On a sad note and from his FB page, it appears that his son was stabbed to death back in 2019.
oh shit stabbed? Yikes. That all lines up with how he presented to the blog Bozo. Thanks for researching
That’s what I could gather. I guess his son was a musician as well and living over in Europe. Kind of wish I hadn’t gone down that FB rabbit hole.
A great line by Willied
”Reminded me of well dressed dudes I’d see walking around at Bay Meadows with a cocktail in hand”
Man that is so true! I used to watch these guys decked out to the nines with their racing forms and cocktails 🍸
with a wad of dough that could literally choke a horse in one hand, cocktail and the form in another leaning on a table that said “Reserved for us everyday we’re here”
There was a time when a kid could learn a lot about the world at the racetrack…
The one thing that really sucks about the Giants is their main owner: a billionaire liar and continuing supporter of lunatic, neo-fascist politicians…

And even worse, can’t develop a goddamn outfielder…
Well, except for Duvall and Reynolds . . .
He’s the worst.
My wife worked for him ~35 years ago when Franklin was still pretty small. And a friend of mine knows the family pretty well.
As usual, if you didn’t know his politics, you’d think he was a nice guy. Then again, I haven’t seen him in 25 years myself.
I thought this guy was immensely underrated.
Solid ’60’s type QB…
Oh hell yeah loved the old Cardinals. I think guy that did NFL highlight shows (tried not to miss those on weekends) in those days was Jim Leaming, and in his accent the name came out like “Cholly.”
He must be pre-Hart. Vaguely remember that name.
For some reason as a kid I thought it was cool that the football team and the baseball team were the same name.
i’m in this guys camp
Oh, and Joe Lacob is Mother Teresa? Do you buy gas? Go to Home Depot? Use AT&T?
Jesus. Spare me the melodrama.
Well, hard to find another multi national who has done more to enrich themselves (and Congressmen) while ruining the planet than Oil Cos going back 100 years to John d. Rockefeller. But I still fill up at Chevron.
Not defending Mr. Johnson, but 40 thou at playoff games at the O (and years of “sellouts”), tells all. If Giants get into more of them, yard will still be filled.
And we all know who paid for the naming rights of the Oracle in first place.
Chase Center? Big banks aren’t any better, or different. The list is never ending.
I’m still hoping that some arena gets named for Preparation H…
Root for the laundry or give up on sports…
KNBR btw is owned by Cumulus, another bunch of money hungry a-holes in the industry.
95% of sports team owners are egomaniacal red-hat wearing greed-head assholes.
If this is your intro to that reality, well, thanks for waking up.
This isn’t the 50s with the Morabitos, a local working-class Italian family running the 49ers. Or Franklin Mieuli deerstalking his way to courtside to watch his team. It’s Jerry Jones and his 5 billion dollar homage to his massively inflated ego. It’s Dan Snyder and his smarmy punch-me face. It’s Mr. Happy Ending Robert Kraft who gets a slap on the (ahem) wrist while DeShaun Watson twists in the wind for a similar deal.
All these guys are billionaires. Do you think they WANT to pay more taxes? My father hated Bush II. He thought he was dumber than a stump but he voted for him. Why? Tax breaks.
you guys saying “what about this company? what about that company?” are missing the point. I don’t have a problem with republicans persay or companies *being greedy*. I have a problem with the owner of the Giants supporting multiple lunatics who tried and are continuing to try to overthrow our democracy. He’s continued to apologize for it and he keeps doing it. Again, normal republicans I can deal with. I am friends with many of them. But Hershel Walker? Lauren Bobert? MTG? etc….You support these people, especially with the amount of money we’re talking its A LOT, and I can’t overlook that. And yes, I am backing that up by refusing to go to any more Giants games till Johnson is gone.
Damn, and I was hoping to make another trip out there next year. haha.
We have Johnson, but at least no Tritt, Trump, or Tomahawk trash in the yard.
Isn’t the next Flapalooza in Minnesota?
I’m just wanting this World Series to be over. Baseball already “seems like a dream to me now” (lyrics from what song anyone?). Looking forward to Z/Harris working their magic in the off-season. May it begin soon.
Amen. Haven’t watched an inning of playoffs since SF lost. Just hoping there is a real off season followed by real baseball season.
America (Simon & Garfunkel)
2 for 2 today!
Yep. Oddly enough, the group Yes covered that, in their Yes-sian sort of way, it was ok. But Bookends was one of my 1st albums, played it til it wore plum out. Don’t know how many times I sang “Counting the cars on the NJ Turnpike” while driving down the NJ Turnpike….
107 wins not only seems like a dream, but a mathematical impossibility…
Sitting thru that Chief game was a chore.
They are just no good anymore…
There weren’t many teams the Chiefs would’ve beaten tonight, but they were fortunate to be playing one of them.
An absolute stinker start to finish.
Feels like both teams lost…
