A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Cheaters Lose

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on November 3, 2021

The Braves avenged our 5-0 Game 6 meltdown by closing the deal on their own 5-0 Game 6 lead. Good for them. From the time Ozuna and Acuna went down this team and the front office never gave up and ended up winning the ultimate prize. I am not really happy for their fans who are basically just Chop Zombies but I definitely know how they feel this morning—as a fan, this is the best it gets. I’m envious.

I’m happy that Not-the-Dodgers won the World Series.

    The Giants maintain their lead.
    Championships:
    Giants- 8
    Dodgers- 7

Now the focus goes on the Collective Bargaining contract negotiations.
    It’s on the clock.

I can live with this. But that forgot about the game because for you 80s fans saw the great Midge Ure from the band Ultravox last night playing solo with just an acrostic guitar. Very entertaining because Ultravox for those who remember was a very orchestrated synth focused band. So seeing him turn those into acoustic pieces was cool.

Ure also was the co-organizer with Bob Geldoff of Live-Aid. Was shocked to learn he is 68!!! But he couldn’t get to those high notes for what he was known for. Of course was also forgetful of the game and slightly distracted watching Virginia election returns!!! What a night!!

      Right. Who needs a democracy?

India has reported about 450,000 Covid-19 deaths. Many respected medical organizations and legit news sources believe the number may be as high as 10 times that. India is purposely way under-reporting the amount of deaths. Their nation has a huge amount of unvaccinated people.

  7. Bozo said, on November 3, 2021 at 6:47 am

Yep, the Braves GM did some nice deadline deals to fill that OF so they could take the division and make that playoff run.

  8. willedav said, on November 3, 2021 at 6:59 am

Cuban born Soler is an FA. .882 OPS after joining Braves. Btw him and Duvall, 30 HRs in less than 500 ABs. Add in another 7 for disgusting Joc, who gets back to back rings though 2020 isn’t real one.
Braves scored 3rd most runs in NL and had second most bombs, 239, 2 less than SF iirc. 4th best team ERA in hitter friendly warm weather yard.
Only second title since Hank Aaron’s younger days late 50s for Milwaukee.

  9. Macdog said, on November 3, 2021 at 7:59 am

It didn’t hurt that the Braves played in the crappy NL East; they wouldn’t have even finished second in the other two NL divisions. They also had the 12th-best record in all of MLB; the Jays and M’s had better records in the AL but missed the playoffs. Give credit where it’s due, though, as Flav and Bozo pointed out, the GM made great moves at the deadline that enabled them to seize their lousy division and ran with it all the way to the title. And I’m damn glad they knocked off the Dodgers.

    • willedav said, on November 3, 2021 at 8:36 am

yeah, finished strong, especially when it counted most in post season. Middle of June they were 5 games under .500. August to end of regular season 36-19.

  10. willedav said, on November 3, 2021 at 8:01 am

something funny–Bobby Valentine, running as independent, lost mayoral election in Stamford Ct. Had couple parting shots at media and made a comment about illegal voting too. In famous words of M. Dung, “Away!”

  11. willedav said, on November 3, 2021 at 8:50 am

Could be some Giants news coming soon–Nov 3 is start of 5 day window for teams and players to opt in or out of options, which do affect couple Giants. Nov 7 is deadline to issue QOs (10 day window for players to decide) and FA starts day after.

Saw an interesting piece about St. Louis likely winning a lawsuit against the NFL and the likely remedy would be awarding them an expansion team. May be one of the reasons the NFL secretary wanted the extra week beginning this season.

Assuming they would have to add a second team, where would it go? Would it not make a ton of sense to put a team in Mexico City??? Not sure what other locality in the US could sustain a franchise.

Well, I feel bad for Dusty, but good on Atlanta…happy they won. And as others have alluded, happy they eliminated the hated bums, too.

Outside of the CBA, the other hot topic right now is who the Giants will protect in the Rule 5 draft. There was a good article on this in The Athletic, yesterday.

  14. alleykat69 said, on November 3, 2021 at 10:54 am

I see the Raiders released Ruggs immediately which obviously the right move to do.I have no sympathy for him at all throwing his life away after seeing the video of him just sitting on a curb next to his mangled vette as the woman and her dog are burning to death inside her suv something he will have visions of the rest of his life.

    • snarkk said, on November 3, 2021 at 11:15 am

Apparently the Vegas police have estimated this moron was driving his ‘Vette at 150+ mph down the road and “slowed” to around 130 mph at the time of the crash. Of course he lived, but killed someone innocent. This morning he was arraigned and the allegation was he tested out at least twice the legal alcohol limit…

      • alleykat69 said, on November 3, 2021 at 12:10 pm

The drunk always lives while the innocent victim’s usually die pretty sure stats will prove that..

      • snarkk said, on November 3, 2021 at 2:10 pm

Also, now it’s reported Ruggs had a loaded handgun in the driver’s side of his car. Drunk and in possession of a loaded weapon can get you another 5 years or so in prison…

“Democracy is when you go to the polls and the majority wins right???”

Tell that to all the people that attacked the Capitol building on Jan. 6.
They’re not clear on the concept.

    • snarkk said, on November 3, 2021 at 11:16 am

That’s true except when the Seditionist party candidate loses, then it’s not Democracy, it’s obviously voter fraud. A political position that Giants owner Johnson repeatedly funds…

    • djloo27 said, on November 3, 2021 at 3:18 pm

I would re-name the Washington Football Team the “Capitols” – spelled like the building and unlike the hockey team spelled “Capitals”…

Video is horrific. I wish i hadn’t seen it. Ruggs just sitting there is the worst. I’m sure there was nothing he could actually do, but look frantic like you care you just killed someone. damn

Unvaccinated Aaron Rodgers has caught Covid-19 and will be away from playing football for a while.

    • snarkk said, on November 3, 2021 at 1:50 pm

Apparently his second bout of it, per reports.
He said in a news conference earlier this year that he was “immunized”. Apparently he chose that word instead of “vaccinated”, as it is now reported he was not vaccinated. So, it seems he was trying some sort of word game, semantics, per reports I’m hearing on radio. He underwent some kind of herbal treatments or similar to increase his antibodies, but wasn’t considered by the NFL as vaccinated — duh — so he was on a Covid testing protocol at the Packer facilities. This guy went to Cal and he was a great QB there. But, if you’re a fool and possibly a liar, I don’t care where you went to school, that’s no bueno…

  20. snarkk said, on November 3, 2021 at 2:52 pm

    Now, that’s unexpected.
If the DH is coming, he could do that and take pressure off his hips.
Maybe his physical condition is worse than generally known, which is what I’ve surmised ever since his injury in 2011…

  26. alleykat69 said, on November 3, 2021 at 4:12 pm

Quite a shock Buster retiring, didn’t expect that with the DH probably coming into play, but I respect his decision going out on top as the “Greatest Catcher in SF Giants history” and a HOF player in my book with 3 W/S rings ROY ,MVP ,GG,Silver Slugger award, more I’m forgetting I’m sure. He’s a gamer from the start helping the team win their 1st championship in his rookie season speaks volumes!
Big shoes to fill no doubt but now it’s Joey Bart time who’s had plenty of minor league AB’s and just needs to build the confidence of the pitching staff going forward and let’s get that 1st HR now lol.Do you bring back the veteran Casali? Maybe needed? Are roll the dice with Bailey L-R platoon who they’re very high on but maybe needs more seasoning?Interesting what Z/H will do, but in Z/H I trust..

They wait 5 years to gain perspective; a quality which is rare in this world of the, “I WANT IT NOW!” populace.

I have never seen the world divided like this before, even the 60’s got nothing on what’s going on now. People are just fucking wacked. Maybe the evangels will try and start a new crusade.

    • zumiee said, on November 3, 2021 at 4:59 pm

I never fully realized how bad it is until I started checking out the Herman Cain Awards SubReddit site. At that site, they show what memes the anti-vaxxers are sharing amongst themselves. The level of craziness is off the charts.

      • zumiee said, on November 3, 2021 at 5:06 pm

The site shows that a lot of the anti-vaxxers have a similar progression to their posts.
        It goes something like this:
        Covid is a hoax!
        Fauci is a farce!
        Masking doesn’t work!
        I caught a cold
        I’m really sick!
This Covid is no joke, pray for me!
(A family member or friend takes over the posting)
He’s in the ICU on a respirator
He’s gone now and will be missed by his wife and five kids. He was a great guy. He earned his angel wings.
Here’s the GoFundMe link to help his family with the huge medical bills.

      • unca_chuck said, on November 3, 2021 at 5:10 pm

Darwin usually comes out ahead in these scenarios. There’s even a list of right-wing anti-vaxx talk-show hosts who have died of COVID.

      • snarkk said, on November 3, 2021 at 5:40 pm

The GoFundMe is the one that really gets me.
The deceased just spent the last year screaming invectives, lies and threats on social media against masks, vaccines, Fauci, mask mandates, “liberals”, gay people, the local school board and generally anybody that believes in science — then gets Covid and dies unvaccinated, and his/her family then begs for money — with the survivor wife/husband saying they either still won’t or are thinking about getting vaccinated themselves. It’s utter insanity, stupidity, hypocrisy, monumental selfishness, and unbelievable hubris all rolled into one. Then, because somebody else has called their dead relative to task for all that, and for probably helping others shun the vaxx too, they play the “victim” card…

  31. unca_chuck said, on November 3, 2021 at 5:34 pm

Fucking Ruggs is lucky Chevy moved the engine to the middle of the new Corvettes. Unfuckingreal that he’s relatively unscathed while the innocent driver dies. Then again that’s how this shit usually goes down.

My niece was a passenger in her boyfriend’s 350 Z. He was drunk and picked her up from the airport when she was moving to Mississippi. He fell asleep going 110 MPH and crashed somewhere outside of Hattiesburg. He wasn’t seatbelted and was flung out the driver’s side window and suffered a broken leg and tore up his knee and ankle. She of course was belted in and suffered blunt force trauma to her head. She was in a coma for a week and was unplugged. 23 years old He got 4 years and was out in 2.75.

  32. Bozo said, on November 3, 2021 at 5:55 pm

Awhile back I said Posey might opt out for retirement. I figured that the Giants would use him as a back up and coach to Bart and he might not like that role, but maybe he’s just tired and wants to spend time with his kids.
I do figure a coaching gig is in his future if he wants it.

  33. willedav said, on November 3, 2021 at 6:00 pm

FA list for Cs is pretty weak. Giants could trade for potentially better player than Casali, but we’ll have to see.
Zaidi said week or two ago Bart was third C.

  34. willedav said, on November 3, 2021 at 6:05 pm

ESPN had story on (ex) Coach Rolovich. The school brought in medical personnel to talk to him and answer any questions he might have, and he repeatedly asked the guy about Bill Gates. Was he invested in companies that made the vax, how much has he profited from it yada yada. What can you say? Now he’s filing suit for being unlawfully discharged as state employee…and he was top public salary for entire state of Washington.

If you read through comments on the MLBTR story, there are a number of Dodger fans chiming in about what a class player Posey was and how he’ll be missed. Even though as couple said he’s tortured them for long time.

  38. Winder said, on November 3, 2021 at 6:57 pm

Class act is truly the best way to describe Posey. What joy he brought to Giants fans in 2010.

Funniest Buster memory was his non-participation in the Harper-Strickland flare up.
He knew Strick was a dope and the whole nonsense wasn’t worth risking injury.
Ask the 2 stooges who banged heads…

It’s my morning coffee time in Saigon, and the first thing I see is about Buster. I share everyone’s surprise (or even shock). I really don’t care about the Hall of Fame, even though he’s likely a shoo-in for that. Buster took charge of the team when he took over for Benjie in June 2010 and cemented the team’s rise to a dynasty. Obviously throw in the names of MadBum, Cain, and Timmy there, but for this Giants fan, Buster made the Giants who they are. I’m feeling a little baseball sad this morning…

  41. PaulinAsia Banh Bao said, on November 3, 2021 at 7:45 pm

Willie, yeah, saw Z’s comment about the ranking of catchers. But this changes everything, no way Casali moves up in the ranking from 2nd C to starter. Might even change Z’s thinking about re-signing Casali at all. Maybe an opportunity now that doesn’t come around too often for such an important position: make it Bart and Bailey and may the best man take the job while the other is hopefully good enough to stay anyway. This is suddenly a very key thing for Z/Harris to add to their off-season strategizing.

  42. willedav said, on November 3, 2021 at 8:28 pm

mm I think what SF does depends more on how good they feel about Casali than Bart. Someone like Wilson Contreras who is only 29, has one more year of control and is a good hitter, might be available in a trade. Then you can mix/match #1 and #1a as Bart learns staff and gets more comfortable.

Genoves is supposed to be further along than Bailey right now but both of these guys are couple years away.
Bailey started year at High A Eugene and sucked before being demoted to Low A san Jose where he hit much better..
Genoves started hot in San Jose, got promoted to Eugene and then struggled before finishing up with 6 games at Sac.

  43. PaulinAsia Banh Bao said, on November 3, 2021 at 8:56 pm

I hear you… but imagining Casali as even half of the starting catcher’s position does not sound to me like a good idea for a team trying to build on what they accomplished this year while also trying to improve the post-seasonality of the team. I’m all in on establishing more regular starters at the positions. For most of 12 years, Giants never had to even think about who was their starting catcher. Now they do. I guess Casali was fine as Buster’s backup, but don’t see him as a regular starter.. which I think they need at that position.

    • PaulinAsia Banh Bao said, on November 3, 2021 at 9:11 pm

I guess another way of looking at it is, if they’re not going to give Bart the position to see if he can man it, now, with Buster going, then when? What’s the point of developing someone and then not giving him the job when it comes up. Maybe he’s really not ready, but it’s time to find out. Haha, maybe “too soon” to be talking about this… 🙂

  44. Winder said, on November 3, 2021 at 9:35 pm

I think we will pick up another vet catcher Casali did a good job behind the plate but we really need some power from that position. Maybe Bart will be ready but I don’t think so. Hopefully there is no lockout this year because it should be fun just to see how we go about building the 40 man roster.

  45. unca_chuck said, on November 3, 2021 at 9:54 pm

Bart will be 25 next year. If he isn’t ready now, when will he? Bailey certainly isn’t ready.

    • Winder said, on November 3, 2021 at 10:11 pm

Maybe he is and since Posey’s gone he will get the job. From what I read over the season Bart had a lot of ups and downs in Sac and it just seemed that things really didn’t click for him.

  46. snarkk said, on November 3, 2021 at 10:28 pm

I think we need to keep in mind that normally, the catcher position does not lead a team offensively, or even be a middle of the road offensive performer. Defense and calling the game are the key skills for a catcher; offensive production is just a side act.
So, Posey’s departure is just another reason why the OF in SF needs to get better and more productive next year…

  47. alleykat69 said, on November 3, 2021 at 10:28 pm

Yeah I agree it’s time for Bart to shit are get off the pot.
The full year in the minors should only benefit his progress further at the Show.
I’m not as much worried about his hitting( even though that 1st big league Bomb might take some pressure off of him) then his defense which seems lackadaisical at times.I want him to take a “I’m in charge attitude” and get the confidence of the pitching staff right away.I believe he’s had time in the minors with Webb in the past, so that’s a good building block to start out with.

  48. zumiee said, on November 3, 2021 at 10:34 pm
