A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Locked Out!

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on December 2, 2021

Meh. This isn’t really moving the needle for me. It’s the off season, nothing happens now, we are literally months away from the season starting. I suspect this will all get worked out in time. And I also think Farah will have his pick of a substantial litter of 2nd tier free agents after all the dust settles. They’ll work out the economics, about the only thing we as fans will notice next year is the universal DH. And I’m fine with that, too.

I’m still not a fan of the concept of a universal DH but resigned to that coming reality. Going to hate the 10-6 droning AL like game.

  2. willedav said, on December 2, 2021 at 7:10 am

Might give SPs few more innings since when their spot in batting order came up wouldn’t matter any more. Also allows a real hitter to take their place–a guy like Ruf or Flores getting more ABs without having to play field should help Giants. Most pitchers can’t even bunt and you don’t want them on bases either.
Unfortunate that Stroman went elsewhere (Cubs for 3/$71) and Chris Taylor re upped with Dogs (4/$60).

Lock-out sucks, but from all I have read, not a big deal, and most expect this to be worked-out before ST (anything after that has the distinct possibility of impacting the upcoming season). It did not sound like the universal DH is a done deal, but we all know it is only a matter of time). I fucking HATE THE DH.

Manfred’s letter to baseball’s forgotten (fans), is pure slime, isn’t it? He blames the players for everything even though the owners had been planning on this lockout for quite some time (business as usual as the GMs kept saying). He doesn’t mention how he was able to slip in experiments to change the rules and traditions, dude should be kicked out of baseball even if it was just for the runner starting on 2nd base in extras. Add in, juiced baseballs, time clocks but no changes to TV commercials, 7 inning games, the poor officiating. eliminating some minor league teams from areas that added interest to the game and continuing Selig’s fails just to name a few things. The dreck that was written probably came from this weasel – https://www.mlb.com/official-information/executives/dan-halem, whatever, fuck em all at 1271 Avenue of the Americas. I know the players have a huge part in this but for the owners and MLB executive slime to wash their hands of it all and just blame the players, really pisses me off.

    • chipower9 said, on December 2, 2021 at 8:40 am

Agree. Manfred is a fucking douchebag. Fuck that cocksucker. He is absolutely destroying the best and most beautiful game on the planet.

    • Winder said, on December 2, 2021 at 8:48 am

Yeah, I read that to, they must think the fans are stupid. The players have some realistic gripes about stashing players in the minors to control more years. There is such big money involved for both sides that is just seems unrealistic to me.

Here’s Gausman record through middle of July last season:
19 starts, 1.84 ERA and in only 2 of them did he give up more than 2 runs ever. Giants record 13-6 as SP.
Not to be ignored, imo and unlikely to be duplicated either by anyone Z picks up from now on.

    • unca_chuck said, on December 2, 2021 at 8:39 am

I’m more concerned about his 2nd half.

15 starts, 4.42 ERA and he got shelled in the playoffs.

May or may not have anything to do with spider tack, but he fell off the table in the 2nd half of the season.

      • willedav said, on December 2, 2021 at 9:41 am

Fine, not my argument. Who does what he did over those first 19? Last season they had Gausman AND Webb at top of rotation. Now?

      • chipower9 said, on December 2, 2021 at 11:04 am

IMO it does not matter. 110 mil for five years is not worth what Gausman brought to the table. I trust our rotation will be fine with whoever Z and crew bring in. Again, no way in hell I want Gausman for 110 at five years.

    • chipower9 said, on December 2, 2021 at 8:42 am

IMO the five year 110 mil deal was a non-starter. I am glad Z did not ink him for that money. That money and length of contract is not worth the perceived drop-off of the starters we will have next year, IMO. Appreciate Gausman’s contributions over the past two years, but time to move on….

  7. unca_chuck said, on December 2, 2021 at 8:29 am

    Two more off the board.

Chris Taylor stays with the Dogs, 4/60.

Strohman, 3/71 to stay with the Cubbies.

  8. Winder said, on December 2, 2021 at 8:55 am

Just yesterday I said that I doubted there would be a work stoppage. Shows how much I know. It still seems a rather moot point though because really the only thing it effects are player signings and FO/player communications(don’t know if that also means communications with agents). At this time of year I don’t think that means very much. Both sides will be blowing smoke for the next couple of months and then a deal should get done. Same as it ever was.

  9. alleykat69 said, on December 2, 2021 at 9:26 am

I’m sick of 2nd string tier players while we wait 2-3 more years for even 1 top farm prospect tô make it up here.

Give me a Castellanos are Suzuki to get the blood flowing instead of Cobb Webs and Brebbia’s and a washed up Beebe in your Beede eye.For a team that’s setup better then most with payroll they still buy their suits off a rack from a thrift store! And they just saved another 23mil off the books fromPosey’s retiring.I just don’t get why they lay back and do squat shit? And I’m tired of hearing the same old excuse years of the contracts, how much it’s for, the player will flame out before the end of it yada yada…

    • chipower9 said, on December 2, 2021 at 9:35 am

I hear you but I do trust our current leadership to steer the ship in the right direction. I think we’ll be fine over the long-haul, Kat. Couple shots of tequilia to take the edge off? 😉

  10. unca_chuck said, on December 2, 2021 at 10:18 am

Mainly because this is really a teardown. NO ONE foresaw the season they had. Even them. They are banking on the guys coming up to build around. Throwing around big money now will only lengthen the process of this rebuild. I get that last season was a weird opportunity to go for broke, and they did try it with Bryant, but they didn’t sell the farm like the Dodgers did with Scherzer and Turner. They lost 2 top-tier prospects, Scherzer, and likely Turner after next season.

I’m glad we didn’t go all-in then or now. Hate to say it, but patience is the word of the day. The only way to win in this league is to develop talent and build around it.

    • chipower9 said, on December 2, 2021 at 11:05 am

      Agree. Patience young Jedi…

  11. snarkk said, on December 2, 2021 at 11:17 am

With this FO now in place and in charge, it’s safe to say Giants fans can count on a competitive team on the field for the foreseeable future. I can’t see a repeat anytime soon of seasons full of Gorkys types of players continuing on and on to just get through endless games of dreck ball, like we had from 2017-2019. For that, I’m thankful and looking forward to the future. As for baseball itself, I’m sorry to say I think it has a declining future on the sports scene in this country. The game is too slow in person and on TV for the coming generations of most sports fans, and I think tricks to spice it up won’t work. It is already a regional game, and the base of kids growing up to play it or become life long fans is declining in this country. The sport’s attraction to African American kids in the US is likely gone forever, which is a travesty in many respects. Expect more and more international players to be on rosters. They’re good players, but I think that does not bode well for the game’s popularity amongst US sports fans. MLB management can’t seem to market its way out of a wet paper bag, nobody knows the game’s biggest stars if they saw them in the aisle at Safeway. Ohtani is a gift from heaven to MLB, but I think they’ve even blown it with him…

    • Winder said, on December 2, 2021 at 11:48 am

I don’t get why African American kids shy away from baseball. The Money is very good compared to other sports especially if you are a natural. My all time favorite players are Mays, McCovey. F Robinson, and B Gibson. Those are the best players I ever saw. Pretty sure the sport would brighten up if players like those were to come up to through systems again.

      • djloo27 said, on December 2, 2021 at 12:54 pm

Baseball equipment can be crazy expensive for the less privileged regardless of color.
You also need a whole bunch of kids to have a real game.
Basketball and football require little more than the ball itself and much less kids to have a game.
There’s also a lot more athleticism and showmanship in BB & FB on the pro level.
Much more enticing to the younger crowd…

      • Bozo said, on December 2, 2021 at 1:34 pm

Also, the minor league system itself is one of the problems. Kids today see the NFL and NBA as a way to sign for millions, sometimes right out of high school, whereas in baseball they get to spend years going through the bus leagues and having to sell cars in the offseason to make ends meet.

      • snarkk said, on December 2, 2021 at 2:06 pm

Good points by both of you guys. All contributing factors.
I don’t see a way to bring back African American kids to baseball.
        It’s a huge loss to the game…

The pie grows, while the relatively smaller but still growing slices of certain conspicuous “elites” are promoted as targets of resentment to those eating enough slivers and crumbs to get by.

  15. Winder said, on December 2, 2021 at 2:44 pm

I think someone should start an organization(charity) that would let low income or really just any kid free access to a few major league games. I know the first time I went to a game at the stick I was 8 years old and totally fell in love with the game. The field was one of the most beautiful things I ever saw. That and local little league was all it took.

  16. willedav said, on December 2, 2021 at 3:13 pm

I’m with Kat this 9:26 AM. Giants had $$ to spend this offseason, and so far haven’t addressed losing Posey and Bryant bats out of the lineup, nor top of rotation guy to replace what Gausman gave them in first half.
$$ is so not their problem As has been noted before, they have $90 mil to play with. F the effing Brebbia aisle, and Brebbia too for that matter.

Speaking of $$, the only “bloated contracts” of any consequence that remain on book 2022 (if it happens) are Belt and Crawford 2 yr deals and Longoria, who gets $19.6 with $5 mil paid for by Tampa in final year of contract.

Webb will be arb eligible for first time 2023. Just for comp, Walker Buehler made $3.75 mil 2021(for a 6 WAR season 2.47 ERA) and will make $4.25 mil 2022. So no matter how good he is, Webb won’t need to be paid and will remain under team control for 4 more years.

In other words, there will not be one single high priced player on entire team going forward.

    • James said, on December 2, 2021 at 3:52 pm

I don’t think they’re being cheapskates. I’m assuming they’re holding out for the right quality to price ratio while retaining as much roster flexibility as possible. Those are tough self-imposed constraints, and if they don’t bend a little, they may come away with no marquee names.

As I said before, they can afford to lose a lot more games than they did last year and still be in the hunt. Zaidi would probably prefer being criticized for not doing enough to being caught guessing wrong on high priced free agents. It’s a rational position.

      • willedav said, on December 2, 2021 at 6:01 pm

sure James but he’s also guessed wrong on number of the bargain signings. What has he gained from trading for Dubon and J Davis? for signing La Stella for 3 years? Tauchman? Aaron Sanchez or Wisler? Dumpster diving is gonna result in getting some trash on your hands.
I think there is a better chance some of the higher quality guys they’ve already passed on could have helped the team and replaced what’s missing from 2021.

      • James said, on December 2, 2021 at 8:33 pm

The wrong guesses are inevitable, no matter the player’s reputation and track record. The cheap guys carry little risk. LaStella may yet prove to be a minor major fuck up by Z.

      • chipower9 said, on December 3, 2021 at 8:24 am

But they still won 107 games, even with the “hits and misses.” As James said there will always be misses, and I would rather swing and miss with those low cost options/dumpster dives instead of high cost free agents on long term contracts.

Bottom line, I believe Z will do what is required to make the team competitive and trust his process and decisions to get there.

    • unca_chuck said, on December 2, 2021 at 3:55 pm

You say that like it’s a bad thing, Willie. It’s December, ffs. There’s time and a ton of FAs out there. We are trying to GET AWAY from Longo-Smargle-Cueto contracts.

  17. Bozo said, on December 2, 2021 at 4:16 pm

Shoulda traded for Flav’s guy, Hunter Renfroe.

  18. djloo27 said, on December 2, 2021 at 4:58 pm

I think they’re just sticking to the formula that worked for 107 wins and figure that even a 10-15 win drop-off should be good enough to make the PS.
    Who knows?

    • James said, on December 2, 2021 at 5:45 pm

It’s certainly a pretty comfortable baseline to operate from.

    • snarkk said, on December 2, 2021 at 5:46 pm

107 wins was earned, but a total outlier.
GMen went 32-6 vs. Rockies and Dbacks — both were historically turdish teams in 2021. They can’t be that bad again in 2022. Braves went to the WS and won, with 88 season wins, getting hot at the end. 90 wins next season would be a good target for the Giants…

      • willedav said, on December 2, 2021 at 6:06 pm

very true. Braves hit 2 less HRs than Giants, have power laden IF, and strong SPs.
but last season and 107 Ws is over and done with, and while great fun, didn’t end well. Giants got to an unexpected postseason, and then got eliminated in first round by hated rivals. Why not try and be better and improve what you have, is all I’m saying.

      • chipower9 said, on December 3, 2021 at 8:25 am

I think Z is trying to improve the team…just going about it in a different manner than you feel is best (throwing money at big free agents).

Commercials I hate? There’s that HP Greenlake ad with the executive confronted by the dilemma of whether to go to “the cloud” or use their local data center to gain “insights” from across their “data siloes.” While The Clash, who are great but not as good as the Beatles, get abused, a female executive naively mulls it over after getting input from her diverse team.

I can’t imagine who it is the ad is targeting. How many companies large and complex enough to have data siloes to worry about and exploit are there? How many don’t have technical staff or consultants to advise them on how to approach this problem, the solution to which would almost certainly not be a minor player like HP?

If there really is a sizable target demographic for this ad, I sure did screw myself financially working in the public sector.

Question to Niner fans. Not a lot of discussion here, just curious if there’s any kind of buzz in the Bay Area about an upward trajectory now. Looking at New England, lot of buzz on the football shows and Pats fans are very excited about the momentum their team has built in starting to gel as a team and they lead the AFC East now. Yet here are the Niners, at 6-5 just 1-1/2 games behind the 8-4 Pats, and they’re sitting in the 2nd wildcard spot. But I don’t hear much buzz. Is the team upward rising? Or is it more a testament to the mediocrity of the NFC (AFC too), a lot of middle of the road teams this year?

    • James said, on December 2, 2021 at 8:25 pm

Will Lance and Wiseman both flop? Should two teams in one city simultaneously make “athletic” “project” picks? These are my questions.

    • snarkk said, on December 2, 2021 at 10:01 pm

Probably a question for Unca, Paul.
But, Niners had better health the last few games, and really upped the run game, running about 40X per game.
This week they’re at Seattle, the normal nemesis. But, Seattle is bad this season, Wilson has a bad finger, and their defense isn’t too good. By momentum, Niners should win, but they’re missing a bunch of defensive starters this week to short term injury, and no Deebo — he’s out maybe 2 weeks with a groin suffered late in last game. Probably a close game…

      • PaulinAsia Banh Bao said, on December 2, 2021 at 10:06 pm

  26. unca_chuck said, on December 3, 2021 at 12:46 am

Paul for all intents and purposes LA and Minn are good teams. The Niners have been struggling with consistency and shanahan was not doing a good job of calling plays early on. Then they played AZ without Murray and Hopkins and were awful.

Lynch talked to the team after that game. It was embarrassing on all fronts. I made the mistake of picking that game to go to but they have been playing much better since that game.

Shamahan has focused on the run game and Jimmy G is JimmyG. He still makes stupid throws. against Minn Shanny laid into Jimmy on the sidelines after an early pick. He did just ok after that. But they won. They lost a lot of winnable games early.

Definitely a weird year. All the hot teams early are floundering. . Except AZ. And the struggling teams are coming back. Except Houston and Seattle.

    • alleykat69 said, on December 3, 2021 at 9:08 am

Yeah P/A I will add also to Chuck’s post that Shanahan can be quite stubborn in his suppose genius coaching styles that teams were catching up too.And his handling of Brandon Aiyuk at the start of the season was just ridiculous for a high draft pick that is desperately needed as a complimentary weapon to Deebo Samuels especially now that’s he’s out for 2 weeks with a groin injury.Of course there’s 2 sides to every story, it could of been Aiyuk, coming in out of shape, attitude, partying to much, curfews? but after they aired it out 1 on 1 finally and got their in-house grievances worked out, this team his starting to really click! And the emergence of RB Elijah Mitchell who I believe will be a star in this league for many years with his ,size, strength, speed able to read blocks and hits the holes cutting back are taking it outside is a thing of beauty!

Yes they are a team now that most teams don’t look forward to playing especially come playoff times which I feel they will be in and hopefully stay healthy for a deep run. They’re is quite a bit of parity in football this season which is good for the game, just glad the 49ers have risen from the ashes to get back in the playoff race!

And quickly about the New England Patriots,Amazing how quickly Bellichick ( now he’s a true genius, love em or hate him) has turned them back around with a rookie QB Mac Jones there not asking him to do too much, 2 real good RB’s Harris/Stephenson and even ex 49er WR Kendrick Bourne coming up big along with the best defense in football the Pats are back winning 6 in a row…

      • willedav said, on December 3, 2021 at 10:22 am

Ha Mac Jones…the guy mostly panned here as the draft pick QB that would ruin Niners. Under Belichick he’s thrived and far outplayed every other QB drafted higher in first season.

      • unca_chuck said, on December 3, 2021 at 10:44 am

Shanny actually impressed me a little after the early struggles calling plays. He’s good at designing stuff. He just has problems stringing together plays. As in he’ll find a weakness in the defense and stop exploiting it on his own rather than waiting for the opponent adjusting to the weakness. As in giving up on the run too early, which he did in a lot of games this season. Putting Deebo in the backfield was risky, and of course he’s hurt, but it reaped a lot of benefit to the offense.

      • unca_chuck said, on December 3, 2021 at 10:46 am

Hard to say how Jack Mones would have done here as our pass protection leaves a lot to be desired, but with our run game I think he’d be fine. I still think Lance has the bigger upside.

I hope all the young QB’s excel it would make the league a better place.

      • unca_chuck said, on December 3, 2021 at 10:56 am

The Aiyuk situation was ludicrous when you saw fucking Sanu and Sherfield getting his reps. That is something you deal with in camp and get straightened out before the season, not 6 games in. It cost us games not having him out there producing. Shanny is showing his father’s abject stubbornness to the detriment of his coaching and the success of the team.

The great news is Bosa is playing at a very high level and is only getting stronger. I just wish Armstead was doing more. We need a better pass rush, and Dee (Found On Road Dead) Ford is doing his best Jalen Hurd impersonation. He isn’t coming back this week, and Warner is out. As is Greenlaw. And the DBs aren’t shitting the bed as bad as they were earlier. Sds terrible as Josh Norman has been, he leads the league in causing fumbles with 7.

      • Winder said, on December 3, 2021 at 11:52 am

Big test with Jimmy this week. See how he does with Deebo out.

      • unca_chuck said, on December 3, 2021 at 12:20 pm

The hope is they get Kittle more involved with catching passes rather than blocking. Aiyuk should be able to take up the slack with Deebo out. He’s caught like 3 passes since he became an RB

      • Winder said, on December 3, 2021 at 12:29 pm

I hated getting rid of Bourne, he was not only a clutch player but a great locker room presence. Kind of like Kittle.

Read great obit in NYT on Curley Culp. Broncos drafted him and tried him at guard (oops) on O line before trading him to Chiefs. Few years later he’d signed to play for WFL(who never paid him and folded), Stram got pissed and dumped him off to Oilers (oops again) where he thrived in Bum Phillips 3-4 at nose tackle and had a season with 11 sacks.

NYT also had list with pic of notable deaths this year; winter months at start seem to be heaviest. Couple I didn’t realize–the great Bunny Wailer (Neville Livingstone iirc) an original in Marley’s group, and Jay Black lead singer of Jay and the Americans. Loved “Come a Little Bit Closer”

  28. Flavor said, on December 3, 2021 at 12:22 pm

Sanu starting over Aiyuk was a straight up joke. And Shanny trying to convince us that Sanny had earned those starts made him look like an idiot. We aren’t deep enough at WR for Shanny to play these stupid mind games with with one of our best receivers.

    • Winder said, on December 3, 2021 at 2:28 pm

Yeah, I had totally bought into Shanny the first few years. But what I have seen the last couple of years has made me have a change of heart. It’s easy to blame him for a lot of things but to me the worst aspect is the inability to adjust on both sides of the ball.

  29. alleykat69 said, on December 3, 2021 at 1:48 pm

Yes and not too mention Shanny’s absurd obsession with keeping Jalin “Never played a down in an NFL game Hurd” around to save face on a terrible pick just so he wouldn’t get claimed by Seattle/LÁ in the division is more nonsense.Hey and guess what he’s still unclaimed and likely will never play again ever..

  30. unca_chuck said, on December 3, 2021 at 2:03 pm

Yeah, losing Bourne turned out to be a terrible move. Esp with the shit guys we have as backups.

    Jennings actually looks OK tho.

    • Winder said, on December 3, 2021 at 2:09 pm

Belichick knew what he was getting and fuck Paarage(sp) for not giving him his money.

  31. willedav said, on December 3, 2021 at 2:36 pm

Trey Lance is a project (and this season will be a waste unless G gets hurt), and might turn out to be next Taysom Hill–fine enough runner but crummy passer like a lot of the “mobile” QBs. Jones is an accurate passer right now and will only get better at making quick decisions in that system. The inaccuracy of the G overthrowing open receivers high and outside is what bothers me most about him not lack of mobility.

    • willedav said, on December 3, 2021 at 2:40 pm

look at QB matchup this week of Herbert vs. Burrow. Sure both can run a bit, but the more important thing is both are capable of throwing for 300-400 yds. any given week.

  32. unca_chuck said, on December 3, 2021 at 3:08 pm

Herbert has looked a lot more ordinary this season. Lance has some problems with his mechanics that need to be fixed. This season isn’t a waste by any means.Lance needs schooling. He’s not ready fon prime time. Fucking Rodgers spent 4 years waiting. Young 3, so there’s no real timeline other than not throwing him to the wolves like Z Wilson, Lawrence, and Fields have been. And they are struggling mightily as they get pounded into the turf. Jones is in a very successful system on a strong team. Any one of those 4 QBs would be doing OK as a member of the Pats.

    • willedav said, on December 3, 2021 at 4:09 pm

So what happens next year? Lance still waiting around?

      • willedav said, on December 3, 2021 at 4:58 pm

Just asking. No idea of cap hit from whatever G makes or what their plans are.

      • Winder said, on December 3, 2021 at 5:18 pm

My guess is Jimmy is gone. Ready or not here comes Lance.

    • PaulinAsia Banh Bao said, on December 3, 2021 at 7:20 pm

Correct about NE’s successful system. That’s what has allowed them to plug in any variety of running backs and receivers over the years with barely missing a beat. Weird to watch NE games now; if you squint just a bit, Jones to Hunter Henry looks just like Brady to Gronk, etc. Current team is less than 2 years past losing Brady, Gronk, James White, Sony Michel, et al, but they plug ’em in and keep on moving.

  33. alleykat69 said, on December 3, 2021 at 8:10 pm

A lot of the Patriots success can be contributed to OC Josh McDaniels who continues to come up with consistent game plans. For a guy who was once a laughing stock HC he’s getting the last laugh now. What I don’t get is I assume he’s sticking around to succeed Belichick at the helm someday, but why would Belichick ever step down now that he has another young Brady to mold into in Jones for another run for years to come?

    • PaulinAsia Banh Bao said, on December 3, 2021 at 8:47 pm

Belichick will be 70 in April, he’s 4 years older than me. I’m “half retired” now, gave up the burn-out of fulltime university teaching here for just now and then part-time work. I can’t even imagine dealing with the stress and constant workload and travel of being a head coach at that (this) age. He ain’t doing it for the money anymore; he seems to really enjoy it and I guess he’ll stay on until it’s not fun anymore. And this new crop he has now looks fun.

Ha that’s what my softball buddies used to say about us playing ball for an hour and then drinking beer for 3 afterward.
Then the wags started coming along.

  35. unca_chuck said, on December 3, 2021 at 10:51 pm

Yeah, I’m with Winder. I’m 98% sure Jimmy G is gone next year a la the Chiefs with Young Sir Alex and Patrick Mahomes. Short of Jimmy masterminding a Super Bowl win, he gone.

McDaniels was an abject failure as HC of the Broncos. Like plenty before him (Ron Wotus?), some guys just ain’t boss material.

    • PaulinAsia Banh Bao said, on December 3, 2021 at 11:43 pm

Yeah, he was terrible. Should just stay an OC.

Brian Kelly gets a 10 year/$95 million deal, plus incentives, to coach LSU. I guess I don’t understand the economics of college football. How does that deal pay for itself? LSU makes that much money from ticket sales, merchandising, and TV?

    • willedav said, on December 4, 2021 at 9:00 am

Wouldn’t surprise me Zum. They get 90 thou at every home game. Saw nice article in NYT on Deion Sanders at Jackson State and what he’s done to revive program. Hopefully he stays and ignores lure of big $$ programs. And encourages other big names to coach HBCUs too.

Brian Kelly is an ASS WIPE JERK!!
He gives his former players at Norte Dame less then 2 minutes of his time about his departure to LSU before bailing out the door! Fuck Him!!He’s always been a prick to interviewers heading into halftimes especially if they were losing.I would really like to clock that guy just once for being the total DICK he is thinking he’s always better then anybody else..

Another story he hired ex 49er coaches Robert Saleh and Matt LaFluer both just getting there feet wet on a coaching staff at I believe it was Central Michigan. So Kelly is throwing a party at his house and both Saleh and LaFluer show up thinking they were on the guest list, which turns out they weren’t, and Kelly told them to them he needed them to shovel the snow from the driveway/ walkway , park the cars for the guests, and retrieve their cars when they were going to leave!!

Big-time College football coaches now getting Gruden style 10-year contracts at $100 million. Private jets. Free homes, not just subsidized mortgages. Old homes bought out at double market prices. These coaches abandon their current kids at the drop of a hat, treat them like crap, like Kelly, for the next, bigger contract at the next school that is “such a good fit”. Meanwhile, the NCAA is still pissed that female volleyball players and swimmers or male gymnasts now can make some chump change money off their own names.
I generally like watching college sports more than pros, but at least we know up front that the pros are all about the Benjamins. The NCAA and big time College sports is a cesspool of ethics…

Yes, the brutal honesty of many Americans is fuck the world as long as you break mine off. As a firm believer in Karma in the end everyone pays for the good or the bullshit they do. The capitalistic formula is full of holes and should be revised.

Jacob Cruz former 1st rd pick by the Giants in 1994 (Bust)
Joins the Giants as an assistant hitting coach ( hey can’t have enough of them as they keep it at 4 after losing Donnie Ecker) the others if people forget are Lind,Viele,&Guerrero ..

Hey I’m all for it, sured worked last year!
You could use them this way
    1) RH hitters only
    2) LH hitters only
    3)Switch hitters only
    4) And this one’s the hardest, the few players that might be interested in using the whole field from line to line..

There were 3 women yesterday on ESPN commentary show Around the Horn, and one of them said, Georgia hasn’t been in a close late game all season, while Bama had to pull out tough W last week vs. Auburn. So second half should be interesting.

  41. alleykat69 said, on December 4, 2021 at 4:05 pm

Yeah, the NCAA is pretty scummy from top to bottom. All their supposed support of the student-athlete starts and ends with how much money that student-athlete can make them.

Look up Richard Washington, a kid from SJSU who got hosed by the system. mainly because he isn’t a big enough money generator for the NCAA.

There’s an article in the Chron about him.

I like San Antonio, lot of Pac 12 guys (Murray White Poeltl Eubanks plus Landale from St. Mary’s). They aren’t very good (7-13 coming in) but given GS all they can handle so far.

In the last 40 or so years, the rich have perfected the art of owning U.S. lawmakers. The “donor class” these owners of the politicians get called.
There are some politicians who stay pretty clean, but there’s not enough of them.
I try to stay generally optimistic about things, but it’s clearer than ever how rigged the game is.
