Michigan
Well, Harbs finally did it. Not happy for him but surprised he was able to get his team to do what it did this year and for that he deserves some type of credit.
Niners in Seattle today. No way in hell would I give 3.5. This is a sit back and just watch it game.
Just wondering if any of youse out dere made it over to Gino and Carlos last night? Some folks I know are regulars, and they were taking pics of dem and the Bishop brothers, Gabe Kapler was also in some of the selfies.
Just looked it up, on Green St. in North Beach. Used to hit great Latin Jazz club mid 70s must have been right near there called Cesar’s, run by Cesar Ascarrunz, who ran for mayor a number of times. Local musicians used to stop by, and when they were in town so did the bigger stars from NYC.
Parking always an issue, and used to watch guys getting cars towed from out in front of Green St.
I don’t remember Cesar’s, sorry I missed that joint. G&C is right next to Golden Boys pizza which was always great for a late night slice to soak up the booze.
Cesar’s was a small club just on other side of Columbus; I remember a park in front with grass just off the street. No?
Wish I had hit that bar, but too much of lightweight after catching music and facing drive back to Peninsula. Cesar Ascarrunz was a character.
Got lost one night near there after show at Keystone SF on Vallejo and me and buddy couldn’t find our car, wandering around trying to recall which side of Columbus we’d parked on.
Not sure Willie, I know there was a Ceaser’s in the Mission, but I don’t remember the one in North Beach. I moved down to SF from Humboldt in 79. Pretty much after Dan White assassinated Moscone and Milk.
same guy. He ran that club after he closed the one on Green. think he called it Cesar’s Latin Palace.
I won a year long college football pool picking Baylor who won by a half a yard by Okie State failing to score at the end!!! Pittsburgh easily beating Wake was the icing.
Interesting article on baseballs.
Hey Flavor I totally fucked up would you please delete this link.
Got it, Winder. Guess I still have editing rights from the Stable Boy days.
Today’s Niner game worries me just like the Warriors/Spurs game worried me last night. The emotional victory followed by the let-down. Thing is, in basketball you can absorb these kinds of losses.
The 49ers can’t. Got to gt on these guys early and take the crowd out of the game.
Thank you very much I was not paying attention. Thank you very much again

“used to watch guys getting cars towed from out in front of Green St.”
My vehicle once got towed from Stanyon St. near Haight St. many years ago. A friend and I were at Amoeba Records for a while, then walked back at 4:15 to where I had parked, and it was gone. It was then that I noticed a sign partially obscured by a tree branch that said “Parking until 4:00 PM.” All the locals knew it. We visitors get nailed by it.
So…..we…..
Paid for a cab to get to the impound place on Bryant St.
Paid the parking violation ticket.
Paid the tow-truck fee.
Paid the impound parking fee.
Got the vehicle back.
Nice money-maker for the city.
None of those fees were cheap.
I lived a block off of Stanyon (Woodland and Parnassus) and two blocks from Stanyon at Carl and Willard. With UC Med and Haight st close by, the residential parking stickers were the only way I could get parking through the day,
Car towing was SF racket Zum, with payoff for everyone. Used to catch shows at GAMH on O’Farrell (down street from Mitchell Bros theatre) and there was an alley behind it you could park but I think after awhile they began towing cars from there. Really liked that place, even if you were upstairs.
Not parking related, but the couple of times that I had to pick up my drums at GAMH the day after a show was pretty fucking eerie. Only the ticket taker up front and no one else in the building, drums in the back, I couldn’t load out quick enough.
Much respect for those of you who still go to concerts or clubs and support musicians performing live. Been years since I’ve done that. A customer who traveled quite often and came into store where I worked turned out to be tenor sax player who led a big band. Every few months they would do a free show in town where I worked at local senior center. they’d play 2 sets worth of great music as a type of rehearsal for their other gigs and I’d talk to leader btw sets. Great guy, but band is all broke up after pandemic and idk what he’s up to.
This is the link the baseball’s article

I guess if you want to read it you have to get the newsletter. Sorry about that but it is a pretty good newsletter.
I’ve seen many shows at the Great American Music Hall over the years. Often we’d have a pre-concert meal at the mini-mart across the street from Mitchell Brothers. The store has a good deli, with a few chairs by the window looking out on the street. We would eat our sandwiches and watch the customers and strippers showing up to Mitchell Brothers. The customers usually arriving in taxis, the strippers usually walking from wherever they parked their car, wearing big thick coats because of the fierce cold, and usually towing luggage on wheels behind them, with their work outfits and whatever else, getting ready to clock into work.
Sounds like the place that I used to get a spinach and feta hand pie from.
Big regret of mine is never going into Mitchell Brothers when Hunter S. Thompson was working the door.
No shit. That would have been epic. Did meet him and Bill Murray in Aspen. Crazy night.
That had to be a crazy night. Was it when Bill was filming Where the Buffalo Roam?
Sounds grim…

That is terrible situation.
shootout in Cincy, with Burrow and Herbert combining for 600 yds passing 8 minutes to go. Burrow just threw another pic, in end zone. LAC up 38-22 after blowing most of 24 pt lead. Fun game
Someone starts a post these days with “shootout in Cincy,” we’re not sure what that’s going to be talking about.
sad but true. The kid in Michigan, with parents that purchased gun for him, found hiding in an art studio in Detroit after a search…who refused to take him home after conference with counselors. yikes
First Thing I thought of. Sadly
Yeah and their supposed lawyer saying no worries there not on the run they’re coming in.As the police find them hiding in a wherehouse..
I can’t believe Rittenhouse got away with what he did, and his mom wasn’t charged.
Kat there’s your main man Mitchell into endzone for 6.
Yeah Mitchell is special Willied for years to come hopefully the main back he’s that good!
I liked the commentators remark:Mitchell is slippery then a raindrop 💦
Saw the Ventures at GAMH and a bunch of other shows. Can’t remember, but I do remember that one. The Hellecasters opened! Fun stuff.
This game is going as badly as I expected.
too much stupid shit going Seachickens way..fake punt for TD, 2 stupid penalties on last drive, Gould missing extra point.
Now this lost fumble on k o return.
Hodges, Oliva, Kaat and Minoso elected to HOF.
Dick Allen missed by one lousy vote…
I doubt there are 100 people left in Brooklyn who saw Hodges at Ebbetts Field.
More meaningful to ’69 Met fans that are still around…
Disgrace that Dick Allen is not in the HOF!!
Yet they put in a midget?Minoso was just a carnival act..
The Minoso family celebrating the news…
ROFLMAO Loo!
WTF is the deal with electing some guys to HOFs when they’re dead, long gone?
And, how many pitches and hits have Kaat and Oliva got since they retired so that now they are more worthy?
All this means is that having the baseball writers control the HOF is a joke, and needs correction of their “mistakes”. What a farce.
No Lefty O’Doul and Dick (Richie) Allen? They’re out, but watch “Big Papi” get in first ballot as writer favorite, even though he failed a PEDs test.
Stabler posthumously into the NFL HOF was a travesty. In the ’70s, there was nobody better at 4th quarter passing…
I think Ron Santo got in about an hour after his funeral…
Yeah, that was egregious. I would imagine his family was alternatively happy and livid. Like Stabler’s …
Santo was utterly baffling. Who did he piss off to keep him out? And you KNOW Pete Rose gets in only after he croaks.
Lefty O’Doul should be in based on all the work he did to promote baseball all over the world s well as being a solid player.
Fucking Jimmy G throws into coverage despite Sherfield being wide open
Jimmy horrible INT and now we go for it on our own 30??? Shanny is an idiot. Luckily we were so inept it was penalized as the play was a mess. And if you are going to wildcat why not with lance??
I’m listening off/on to Niners game.
Seems like their D backfield is constantly hurt and/ or just plain F’ing up. Why don’t they draft some?
Not to mention they’ll never get anywhere in playoffs with Jimmy G as QB, the guy just isn’t good.
They never throw strikes downfield; you’re asking for Picks if you keep throwing over the middle and slants…
G is driving them down the field from the 2 as we speak. He’s only part of the problem and he outplayed Cousins (who makes even more $$) last week. They did draft 2 DBs, just haven’t played them much.
In the NFL, if you’re QB is part of the problem, that’s a big problem…
We passed on so many good CBs these last 2 drafts. It is a huge problem. Whenever Norman is out there, we suck.
Place is hexed. although it was scene of awesome defensive stop inches short of goal that saved SF.
Niners gave a game away today. All kinds of mistakes.
Football is hard enough without the incomprehensible officiating. Sherfield is held his whole route and has his arm held by the DB inthe end zone. No call.
Tomlinson gets called for holding while doing absolutely nothing. Bosa and Armstead were held on about 12 rushes with no calls. And of course our own stupid penalties.
No one does a “Pfffttt” like Blade…
kyle completely bungled that last set of downs. Two runs and then 2 passes to Sherfield? WTF? He was afraid of scoring too quickly and then no throws to Kittle? Absurd.
Yeah why use Kittle at the goaline when he only had 9 catches 181 yards 2TD’s and 39.5 fantasy points at the time, when you can use your 3rd string receiver in Sherfield?? Shanahan is such a fucking terrible play caller when the game is on the line!
Kyle ain’t throwing the ball. There’s more than one guy on those routes. Jimmy just has such lousy vision and no feel for reading his progressions. If they lose to Cincinnati, they need to think about changing QBs.
The holding on Sherfield was blatant and obvious. They could have called PI on that play as well. But no.
A couple of key injuries and this team falls apart. After 5 years we should be better than this.
They have to find someone better than a washed-up Josh Norman at CB. He and Dontae Johnson are fucking awful. And we missed Asante Samuel by one fucking pick. I wanted him bad.
DBs are like boxers.
They seem to lose it all at once…
Call me spoiled, but Mahomes flat out stinks this year…
Officiating was bad, but our stupid penalties in key moments worse. Play calling at the end was so frustrating. Did we bring harbaugh back and I didn’t notice?? Time for Shanahan to go.
I haven’t looked at the stats, but just from observation, it seems like an awful lot of missed extra point kicks this year. Pretty basic job to get one lousy point.
I liked it better when it was almost automatic.
It was meant to be that way.
Just 10 yards before they moved the goalposts back…
The NFL moved it back a few more yards a few years ago to make it harder. The NFL likes more missed extra points. It causes crazy things to happen in games, like coaches going for more 2 point conversions.
“extra-point kicks are now taken 33 yards from the goal posts”
I forget now which team, but wasn’t there a team today that could’ve kicked an extra point to tie it and send it into OT but they went for 2 and didn’t get it? I don’t know. If you don’t have a kicker who can make that, better find one…
So a few years ago they moved it back 12 or 13 yards. That was pretty dramatic, actually.
Ravens head coach Harbaugh went for 2 to end the game in regulation. He later said his defense had too many injuries to go into overtime. I had never heard a head coach say that before.
Shit a field goal kicker has no excuses missing kicks it’s the only thing they do all week, but hit extra points are practice on different distances! It’s the easiest job in the NFL along with the punter! Do your job consistently is all the coach expects, don’t are hit the wavier wire!
Loo, per your 8:05, it looks like Mahomes has what I remember one coach calling it “happy feet”. Maybe he always does that, since he’s always ready to be mobile, but when he’s in the pocket, he just never seems to set himself. Cue a Steve Martin video….
I agree, Paul.
Pretty sure it’s PTSD from the Super Bowl…
