A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

He Just Needs Two

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on December 14, 2021

Everyone is saying how cool it is that Steph is going to break the record at MSG and I guess it’s cool. Personally, I’m not too jazzed about this record. It’s been obvious for many years that he’s the best 3 point shooter of all time. I guess it’s good to finally have the record behind him to prove it. It’s been funny watching these teams go to great lengths to try to stop him from taking it down on their floor. I don’t think New York has anyone who can slow him down though.

Maybe they’ll try this?

Agreed, focus on record by media way overblown. Interesting thing to me will be what rotation looks like once Thompson is back on floor for good. This will change sub patterns that Kerr has for most part done great job with. FO did well in off season to add in good depth pieces; finding 20+ minutes for #11 is gonna cut into playing time for someone (maybe more than one)…see how that works out.

I think it’s fucking with Steph a bit. He doesn’t look like he’s enjoying the hoopla around it. He sure has been off his game this last week.

Wiggins stands to lose the most playing time. He’s pretty inconsistent anyway, so the change is welcome.

      • willedav said, on December 14, 2021 at 8:31 am

Wiggins, really? He’s a solid defender who attacks rim and scores midrange, and can knock down a 3. Other forwards have definite smaller skill set. I’m wondering more about Poole and Lee. Kuminga is interesting but minutes where he can fit in less dependent on what Thompson does.

Baseball’s the only sport with indelible numbers in the record books.
    Basketball? Only Wilt’s 100, I’d say.
Football? Used to know OJ’s 2003, no idea what the record is now or who even holds it.
I doubt that most 49er fans know Jerry Rice’s career totals…

Hi Loo . . . Agree with you. Related to NFL, I am flabbergasted that no one calls BS to Tom Brady’s accomplishments.

        Welcome back, Blade!!!

cool pic. Loo which bridge is this? Recognize the landscape at all or has it completely changed?

    • unca_chuck said, on December 14, 2021 at 7:54 am

Still can’t believe George tore down the house that Ruth built. Travesty.

    • djloo27 said, on December 14, 2021 at 12:17 pm

I’m sure it’s the Macombs Dam Bridge that people used to walk between the Polo Grounds and Yankee Stadium.
Not sure if any Flappos made it there in 2016…

As far as recognizing it, I couldn’t tell you much.
My only reason for ever going up there was the occasional trip to Yankee Stadium.
The neighborhood was a war zone pre-Giuliani…

Pretty sure they haven’t moved the river…

Think it’s Eric Dickerson? back in the 80’s who holds the most rushing yards over 2,100 ?

  5. Giant Head said, on December 14, 2021 at 7:49 am

I definitely did not want to see him break it last night. Doing it at MSG if there is one place on the road to get max media attention that is the place. All bball eyes will be on NYC tonight.

    • alleykat69 said, on December 14, 2021 at 7:58 am

Since he knows exactly where he stands I wonder if Steph can accurately miss a 3 he’s so good, just to make sure he breaks the record in NY.As GH just said it’s max media, like a Ali/Frazier fight!

  6. Giant Head said, on December 14, 2021 at 7:53 am

Enjoyed watching last night’s game. You could see how beneficial having Sabonis on the Dubs would give them an extra dimension. Would take probably Wiseman, Looney (maybe the Pacers agree to waive him) Porter and or Damion Lee (prob they would waive both) to make the money work and then add another #1 and #2. Who makes that deal?

  7. Giant Head said, on December 14, 2021 at 7:55 am

I’m not too worried about the rotation once Klay is back. Poole becomes the 6th man and hopefully takes charge as the go to scorer for the 2nd shift. The way they are using Steph this year, he would pair up with Poole as the backcourt starting 2nd and 4th qtrs so should be plenty of offensive ammo while Klay sits.

    • willedav said, on December 14, 2021 at 8:42 am

Different mind set as sub vs. being starter. Once Thompson is ready to roll, he’s getting crunch time minutes while Poole sits–does that mean he hunts more of his own shots and points while in there? How does that affect overall team performance, including D and ball movement/turnovers?

  8. unca_chuck said, on December 14, 2021 at 7:57 am

Shit, my son has been pining for Andre Drummond for years. A guy like him and we are unbeatable.

Just hoping against hope Wiseman works out. I’m not seeing it from him.

    • willedav said, on December 14, 2021 at 8:37 am

Yet, bro. Ayton as a comp had full year of college at Pac 12 U of A before turning pro, plus has multiple seasons behind him already with 196 games played in his NBA career in his 4th season–Wiseman has one partial season only and 3 games of college. Given time I think Wiseman can be similarly effective player with better shooting range. Hope GS keeps him.

    • unca_chuck said, on December 14, 2021 at 9:24 am

Yeah I’m not thinking of trading him, but I really hope he rounds out.

  9. unca_chuck said, on December 14, 2021 at 8:04 am

Yeah, it’s Dickerson, AK. Adrian Peterson got like 4 yards away from the record a few years back. And Derrick Henry got close (75 yards?) last year.

  10. Macdog said, on December 14, 2021 at 8:23 am

Interesting stat: Allen made his soon-to-be-broken-record 2,973 3s on a record 7,429 attempts, while Curry has attempted a far fewer 6,889, 3rd all-time.

    • unca_chuck said, on December 14, 2021 at 9:25 am

In close to half the games.

      • Macdog said, on December 14, 2021 at 9:29 am

Yeah, I saw Kat point that out!

  11. alleykat69 said, on December 14, 2021 at 9:10 am

19 seasons for Allen setting the 3 range record
13 seasons for Curry to break it which includes a lot
missed games with injuries and a shortened covid season..
Regular season games played,1,900 games played by Allen, 788 for Curry easily over 2-1 ratio..

    • unca_chuck said, on December 14, 2021 at 9:32 am

Wow. Didn’t realize the # of games discrepancy. Way under half.

  12. willedav said, on December 14, 2021 at 10:16 am

Wasn’t fan of teams he played on (Celts and Heat) but Ray Allen is class guy all the way. His bio “From the Outside” is very good read.

  13. alleykat69 said, on December 14, 2021 at 10:40 am

I would love to see the Warriors make a trade with the Pacers for C Myles Turner who would be a perfect fit and is still only 25 just hitting his stride..He’s a serious rim protector, heck he’s in the running for DPOY (can u imagine teaming him up with Green? a shot blocker at 2.8 a game( one weakness on the Dubs middle of the pack I believe?) and he’s even hitting 3’s at close to 40% and he’s not thrilled how the Pacers are using him..

Warriors window is closing with the big 3 all in their mid 30’s add Turner for that final push for a championship!
Yeah your going to have to give up Wiseman,Moody?, Toscana? can’t think of the name of that guy Kumiga? whatever package might work I’d be all in! Hey I like Wiseman but do they have the patience to keep developing him over Turner’s who’s already a proven commodity?Thoughts? Even on different players involved are salary?

    • Flavor said, on December 14, 2021 at 11:49 am

Turner needs to grow up. He thinks he’s just a role player in Ind. He’d fucking hate playing in SF

  14. snarkk said, on December 14, 2021 at 11:38 am

Kuminga has potential to be a beast.
I’d keep him at all costs…

    • unca_chuck said, on December 14, 2021 at 11:39 am

Definitely, Snarkk. I’d trade Wiseman before Kuminga.

      • snarkk said, on December 14, 2021 at 12:05 pm

I think he has a shot in a few years at being another Kawhi Leonard, hopefully without the head case…

      • unca_chuck said, on December 14, 2021 at 12:25 pm

Yeah, he’s already a great slasher to the rim and a solid defender. The rest will come around.

  15. mrsprtdude said, on December 14, 2021 at 3:19 pm

If Kuminga becomes another Kawhi I’ll take it. Any rookie that turns into a MVP, Ring winner and likely HOF’r is a win, even if he is a head case:)

    • willedav said, on December 14, 2021 at 4:18 pm

      Tons of potential/so little experience.
I saw game on TV at San Diego St. when they retired Leonard’s number, very cool thing. Always loved watching him play, and hope he can return this season to near previous level.

  16. willedav said, on December 14, 2021 at 4:30 pm

It is cool tonight’s’ game is at the Garden, and realize Knicks would love nothing better than to be able to walk out with a W. As Ernie J just said, Warriors have won 7 in a row there. Last time they lost, Steph got 54. Could be one of those “ring ceremony” games where defending Champs get hardware, and opposing team takes it upon themselves to knock them down a peg.

  17. unca_chuck said, on December 14, 2021 at 4:45 pm

Half the Knicks team is out so I doubt it, Willie.

    • willedav said, on December 14, 2021 at 5:19 pm

Only one starter though, Barrett. More minutes/shots for everyone else.
Bench guys keeping Warriors in it–they’ve got half the points.

      • willedav said, on December 14, 2021 at 5:28 pm

starters getting back in groove, cut lead to 2.

  18. alleykat69 said, on December 14, 2021 at 7:47 pm

Well Hoosiers Coach Dale would say :We will play with 4 my teams on the floor ref!!

Fuckin COVID is wreaking havoc again.
    At least in sports.
    Question:
If you test positive, do they know which variant you have?

    • zumiee said, on December 14, 2021 at 9:47 pm

It depends on what test is used.
Not a super helpful answer, I know.

      • djloo27 said, on December 14, 2021 at 10:08 pm

So each variant has it’s own test?
Has anyone died from the new one?
        Do they even know?
        So tired of this already.
Fauci has no insight of value.
All he does is state after the fact obvious shit.
Brilliant man, nice guy, shitty pitcher and totally defeated by this menace…

      • zumiee said, on December 15, 2021 at 1:18 am

We need at least 90% of people to be fully vaccinated in order to defeat the virus. There are too many stubborn ignorant anti-vaxxers, though.

      • zumiee said, on December 15, 2021 at 1:23 am

The U.S. is now at 61%. (Less than that have gotten the booster, though.)
Calif. is at 65%. Vermont leads at 76%.

  20. zumiee said, on December 14, 2021 at 9:40 pm

“THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — The Los Angeles Rams added wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. and eight other players to the reserve/COVID-19 list on Tuesday, the team announced.”
