A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Surprise This Morning

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on December 22, 2021

It was 6:31am and my phone buzzed…..

45 minutes later I’m at the Millbrae Pancake House eating breakfast with this dude….

We chopped up a lot of shit in an hour including our collective desire to have the Kale garden removed and replaced with a Forever Giant Ring of Honor to include all of *our* hall of famers.

Thoughts?

Great pic! Helluva good idea too. Be nice to get something like that done while most of these guys are still alive.

Pancakes With Diggity…as Molly Cyrus would say: “That’s pretty awesome!”

Another fine Bay Area breakfast establishment is Ole’s Waffle House in Alameda. I’m not a waffle person, but I had some excellent pancakes there.

Impressive performance by the Suns vs. the Lakers last night. The Lakers were missing Davis, but still, the Suns seemed very versatile and deep. They seem like a team now that really could win a championship. Long way to go on the schedule, obviously, though.

btw fun facts relating Giants and Woodland: it is birthplace and home to HS of Giants coach Alyssa Nakken, who married HS beau Rob Abel (met at same school) this past November in San Rafael.

      Nakken and Abel.

Millbrae House of Pancakes a lifetime staple of mine!! I will always go out of my way to eat at this legendary restaurant..
Old School red and white checkered tablecloths and a killer extended menu!
Great u hooked up with Flavor, SanDog shootin the shit and brainstorming new Flap ideas!
Hope your sister is doing well after her surgery and up an around soon!

  7. chipower9 said, on December 22, 2021 at 2:11 pm

That is bad ass. Glad you two got to meet-up. I am not in love with the kale garden, so I love the idea.

SanD – hoping for a quick and full recovery for your sister.

  8. unca_chuck said, on December 22, 2021 at 2:14 pm

Damn. Haven’t been there in 40 years. Very cool you guys got to hook up.

I’m slowly getting my ass kicked by this booster shot. REALLY tired, no appetite, chills. Got thru most of my work and crashed for a couple hours.

Don’t forget that is the location of the whiskey bar. The garden is around the edges. Take the fucking salad out. Leave the whiskey. Tell them Sonny sent you.

When talking about posting a Pancake House pic at the Flap we both agreed that Alleykat would appreciate it the most. Both of us feel like their are too many statues around Oracle. And with so many more deserving names to honor/retire their number it seems like a *ring of honor* with names like Bonds, Kent, Timmy, Cain, Bum etc….would be more appropriate than adding more statues outside.

Used to hang out at the Lyon’s in 19th and El in San Mateo. Shoot pool down the street at Town & Country. Drink till the darkest bar in existence closed and eat waffles, smoke ciggies, and drink coffee till dawn. Strange days indeed.

  11. unca_chuck said, on December 22, 2021 at 3:55 pm

This is keeping me sane as I fever out all day.. The music never Stopped/Terrapin is magnificent. Great great show.

  12. James said, on December 22, 2021 at 4:04 pm

That looks like an adequate whipped cream to pancake ratio.

I hate to even admit this, but I didn’t even know the NFL had 17 games now. Or I knew, but completely forgot. When did it expand to 17? Haha, probably years ago. Have I really been that out of it? Sheesh…. What a drag it is getting old…

Great idea for Giants’ *own* hall-of-famers…

    • Macdog said, on December 22, 2021 at 8:33 pm

This is the first 17-game season, so you’re not going crazy.

      • PaulinAsia Banh Bao said, on December 22, 2021 at 11:48 pm

Thanks, John, that actually makes me feel a bit better… 🙂

Excellent, Flav and SD having a pancake summit, working shit out. Should’ve had reps for the owners and players there so the lockout could have been unlocked.

  17. Winder said, on December 23, 2021 at 8:39 am

It’s pretty obvious that you guys have a lot of fun here. And that is awesome. Giants baseball and pancakes, nice.

  18. Macdog said, on December 23, 2021 at 8:47 am

Flapjacks and Flappers, gotta love it!

    • chipower9 said, on December 23, 2021 at 8:57 am

      Good one Mac.

  19. Flavor said, on December 23, 2021 at 9:08 am

gentlemen, because I don’t give enough credit to players from yesteryear (just ask Dirt on Twitter) can someone explain to me why to dude is in the HOF? Stats seem quite underwhelming to me and also I’ve never heard of him
    https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/s/schoere01.shtml

    • Macdog said, on December 23, 2021 at 9:33 am

Top fielding second basemen who also could hit a little were probably rare in late 1940s-mid-’50s MLB. Add in two World Series titles as Cards skipper in the ’60s. Here’s what his HOF plaque says:

Roommate Stan Musial credited him with “Greatest pair of hands I’ve ever seen”. Sleek, far-ranging second baseman for 18 seasons. Led N.L. fielding and hit .300 or better seven times. When elected in 1989 had worn major league uniform 45 consecutive seasons as player, coach and manager, piloting Redbirds to World Series in 1967 and 1968. 14th inning homer won 1950 All-Star Game for N.L.

      • Macdog said, on December 23, 2021 at 9:43 am

Before Loo corrects me: Schoendienst only got one World Series title with Cards, in ’67.

  20. unca_chuck said, on December 23, 2021 at 9:24 am

He got in as a manager i think. Won the world series for the cards in the 60s.

    • Flavor said, on December 23, 2021 at 9:34 am

Thanks that makes a lot more sense. I should ask Daniel about this

      • chipower9 said, on December 23, 2021 at 9:38 am

Great idea…Daniel may have more info, but Mac’s info sums it up pretty good.

    • Macdog said, on December 23, 2021 at 9:35 am

It looks like he’s in as a second baseman.

  21. Winder said, on December 23, 2021 at 10:27 am

    An old time fan favorite.

  22. snarkk said, on December 23, 2021 at 11:24 am

If you were an old-timer and your name was “Red”, you had one foot in the HOF already…

  23. willedav said, on December 23, 2021 at 11:25 am

Schoendienst won WS as player 1957 with Braves (Hank Aaron was 23 then), who beat Yanks for title. He was 34 and had been traded over by NYGiants and hit .310 with .782 OPS for them. Next year Braves won pennant again but lost WS, and Red slumped to .641 OPS.

Btw, read a column in F/G on Kent and HOF chances and one of the knocks is

    • willedav said, on December 23, 2021 at 11:27 am

Fielding compared to other HOF 2b.

  24. zumiee said, on December 23, 2021 at 1:01 pm

I find it kind of interesting which former athletes and coaches turn out to be really good broadcasters and which ones don’t. It’s pretty hard to predict, from a fan perspective, usually. I had no idea Tony Romo would turn out to be good.
Last night I was watching a Hawks game, and I was thinking: “that analyst is really good.” It turned out to be Vince Carter.
Ronnie Lott and Bill Walsh basically bombed as broadcasters.

“Cruise ship must remain at sea after 55 people test positive for Covid”

I’m amazed people still go on cruise ships these days.

    • snarkk said, on December 23, 2021 at 4:15 pm

5000 people cooped up for a week in a floating city 1000 feet long, and it is virtually guaranteed some of them have some Covid variant infection when they get on board. I wouldn’t go if I were paid to go. Seems crazy to me, but others obviously don’t care…

      • djloo27 said, on December 23, 2021 at 7:18 pm

Even under normal circumstances, a cruise never appealed to me.
Seems like all people do is eat too much and fall overboard…

  26. alleykat69 said, on December 23, 2021 at 2:21 pm

“Flapjacks and Flappers, got to love it!” Well played MacDog!
Thanks for the shout out about Millbrae House of Pancakes BF,and DiggityDog!
Yeah the place is a one of a kind classic like Harry’s Hofbrau in Redwood City!

I occasionally would get pigs in a blanket( sausage wrapped around inside the pancakes 🥞)with hash browns & plenty of refills of coffee ☕️ at Millbrae’ killer too!
Yeah this might sound corny but I have WR Stephon Diggs on my Fantasy Football team
so I named my team “Diggs in a Blanket “

  27. alleykat69 said, on December 23, 2021 at 4:49 pm

49ers really relaxed in warmups, Kittle bump chests with former TE Greg Olsen on the sidelines in his suit was hilarious, he’s pumped up!
Even better seeing Deebo Samuel rockin a hoodie that says Kyle, with 2 football pictures of him wearing his number 17 from his days playing at the University of Texas Longhorns days..
Time for the 49ers to kick some Titans asses!
    31-17 Niners Let’s GO!!!

  28. alleykat69 said, on December 23, 2021 at 5:31 pm

Oh Hell yeah what an opening drive!
Working on all cylinders for a Wilson TD plunge!
Titans we’re confused on every play call!

  29. Flavor said, on December 23, 2021 at 6:38 pm

infuriating that Kyle just gives up at the end of the half there. Why would he worry about giving the ball back to Tenn? They can’t move the ball, at all. Total puss move by Kyle there.
Niners winning in spite of Jimmy who has been horrendous tonight.

    • Winder said, on December 23, 2021 at 6:57 pm

I just hate that and he does it all the time.

  30. alleykat69 said, on December 23, 2021 at 7:09 pm

Once Jimmy turns into his “ Jim don’t call me Chris Everett” still a great TV moment with Jim Rome as he flies over a desk at him! with his panicked happy feet BS it just turns ugly!
    And now another freaking pick!!
Great and of course they score to tie it up at 10-10 when it should of been a blowout!!!
Never would of happened to Walsh like this, he would of kept pounding a team into submission..

    • snarkk said, on December 23, 2021 at 7:34 pm

      Walsh had better players…

  31. mrsprtdude said, on December 23, 2021 at 7:31 pm

I’m sure when Niners totally sucked it was frustrating, but this team drives me to drink. I agree total puss move by shanny. i hate not trying. How about a bomb and a PI. A long shot to walk off sucks. Now the play calling is horrid, and Jimmy went from being a very good Qb in the last 6 weeks to complete trash. More false starts than my kids pop Warner team. FUCK

  32. djloo27 said, on December 23, 2021 at 7:32 pm

If nothing else, I bet the 49er defense is top 5 in self aggrandizing celebrations.
Still haven’t learned from blown SB…

    • djloo27 said, on December 23, 2021 at 7:34 pm

      I know.
      Everybody does it.
That’s what makes it so tiresome…

  33. Bozo said, on December 23, 2021 at 7:32 pm

    Damn.

  34. alleykat69 said, on December 23, 2021 at 7:44 pm

To huge plays by Deebo fired up and shootin wads in Titans faces, then dipshit Crapp a load gives it all back on 20 yard sack!!

  35. Bozo said, on December 23, 2021 at 8:12 pm

    Merry fucking Christmas, Tennessee.

    • Macdog said, on December 23, 2021 at 8:40 pm

I met a man who lives in Tennessee, he was headin’ for
Pennsylvania and some homemade pumpkin pie

      • Bozo said, on December 23, 2021 at 9:04 pm

and a happy New Year, Perry Como.

        How ya been doing Mac?

      • Macdog said, on December 23, 2021 at 9:31 pm

        Doing ok Bozo, thanks.

  36. alleykat69 said, on December 23, 2021 at 8:16 pm

And the band and the trombone player wrap it up for a Cal victory!
Just a pathetic game after such what should of been a dominating start!!
