Seven Losses
This will be cathartic:
7th Worst loss: Colts. On the road, they’re a good team, Jimmy was terrible as usual but this loss didn’t have me tearing my hair out. Losses happen. This was one of them. This one also happened so long ago I barely remember it.
6th Worst Loss: 1st loss the the Cards. This was back when they had Kyler and he was playing great. Plus it was on the road, a divisional game, again losses happen.
5th Worst Loss: Green Bay. This was back when everyone thought GB was suspect and Rodgers just casually strolled past the team in the final seconds with no time outs left. This one stung.
4th Worst Loss: first Sea loss. Losing to them anytime sucks.
3rd Worse Loss: last night. We had that one in the bag. It would have been 24-0 if Jimmy had even been mildy competent. Kyle’s play calling to end the half was, as usual, puss-like and scared.
2nd Worst Loss: the second loss to Seattle. despite an absurd special teams fuck up to start the game the Niners still started up 14-7 and were in control with Russell running for his life most of the first half. This is the game where Kyle inexplicably had the terrible Jimmy throw 2 balls deep into the black night sky only to have Gould miss the FG. This loss was EXTREMELY painful.
Worst Loss: Second one to AZ. They looked like they didn’t care that game and got blown out by a team led by Colt McCoy.
Ah, that felt good…….quibble with this list if you want to. The common theme is that Jimmy G SUCKS. In certain schemes, with zero pressure, he is fine (as are most QB’s). But deep down Kyle doesn’t trust him and he shouldn’t.
Pretty spot on. All on Garoppolo’s shittiness for this loss. But our weak secondary has really been exposed and started last week by Matt Ryan of all people.
mm every L is on the G and Shanahan, OK whatev.
Yes G did leave points on board early, and they should have had at least 17 of them by halftime. I stopped watching immediately after int in 3rd Quarter. But while watching Warriors-Memphis (great game one of best of season) I followed along as the G…drove ball down the field and tied the game with TD pass, something conveniently forgotten in narrative. He got ball with chance to tie game, and he did.
Followed by, defense allowing passes and runs downfield into game winning FG zone, which Titans converted. Niners had 10 point lead at halftime, which D could not hold. Team L–offense didn’t score enough, D could not hold Titans down.
End of story, and we have seen this one before, Team L including special teams..
You wanna be the star QB? You get the credit when they win and you damn sure get the blame when you lose. Especially like that. He was horrendous.
True, he deserves lot of blame. Just not all of it because there is another side of football–D allowed 20 points in one half, and Brown lit them up. Pass rush faltered and they couldn’t stop Tannehill passing attack given leaky secondary. First half STs gave up long KO return and punter shanked one badly–but D stepped out and shut out Titans. Second half, no, they got torched. Like I said this stuff happens to Ryan’s defense over and over, whether QB is Colt McCoy Russell Wilson Aaron Rodgers yada yada. If your QB and offense are having an off night you have to pick them up…didn’t happen.
A case could be made that last night was Jimmy’s worst moment as a Niner. Everything was in place for him to prove that he was The Guy; but on the second drive, his overthrow and then brutal interception completely changed the game. It really should have been 14-0, with the Titans completely on their heels, but the Titans were allowed to stick around. And, in sports, we all know what can happen when you don’t put an opponent away and let them stick around.
Zumiee, your post made me wonder if the Giants had any major failed opportunities to pad their lead against the Angels back in nightmare WS Game 6. Maybe I’ll check later…
I don’t care about the 49ers, but Flavor’s work ethic up top is astounding to me.
I bet his co-workers love him…
If I’d been watching, this may have driven me crazier than the interceptions:
“San Francisco held the Titans to 3 of 7 on third down in the first half. After halftime, Tennessee converted 6 of 9 third downs — the shortest third-and-7 with four of 10 yards or longer. The biggest one came with Tennessee facing third-and-23 at its own 28 on the final play of the third quarter.”
Maybe. 9-16. That’s fucking awful.
This has been a running theme with Shanny. 1st half decent to great, 2nd half, squadoosh. He gets out-coached in the 2nd half nearly every game. That being said Jimmy fucked this one sideways. The miss to Juice was catastrophic. The pick in the end zone is a fucking rookie mistake.
Shanny wimps out yet again in the 1st half yet throws every down on that last drive. His play calling is very erratic. Again, I was just hoping there would be a couple runs mixed in to burn clock.
Shanny being outcoached is a weekly event now. Exposed in 2 superbowls. Niner fans see it but casual fans and announcers still think is elite…
Of course you could make a case that wasting draft capital on a player who doesn’t play could have been used on an elite DB
Neither Shanny or Grappy are as good as we thought they were—or maybe as good as we hoped they’d be. In that case, that’s not really on them, we share some blame in that too.
We just don’t seem to be able to adjust to the opposition in the 2nd half. To me that is mostly on the coaches. Jimmy was terrible.
He throws a a lot of ugly balls.
So did Namath among many others.
In my mind an NFL QB should be capable of throwing a tight spiral 95% of the time regardless of accuracy.
Testaverde and Jurgensen usually threw beautiful balls…
Yep, watching a QB that has touch on the ball is a thing of beauty.
With the regular season nearly over, one ranking service has the Niners at:
Offense: 10th
Defense: 21st
SpTeams: 21st
So, the stats show they’re a middling team, and their record supports that…

I don’t get why they gave up on the run game!
Wilson jr had a TD and 13.4 Fantasy points in the FIRST QUARTER
Then it was like he had the plague only 1.3 points more they certainly underutilized him and he probably could of scored a 2nd TD just pounding the rock in to make it 14-0 instead of Jimmy tying to force one in to Kittle who was well covered.
They had everything going for them, great 1st drive, totally dominated the Titans held to 55 yards at halftime, yet only up 10-0? That sucked, and what sucked more the 49ers D was playing great on 1st and 2nd downs allowing only a 3 yard avg but over 9 yards on 3rd down as they converted 9 of 14 ridiculous, long yardage too,10 and even 26 yards and they converted, that’s when you scream at your tv WTF it was so frustrating, that and had no answer for AJ Brown(11 catches 125 yards a TD) just coming off the IR who constantly burned them , why not double team his ass?Complete 2nd half meltdown and it was on everyone to look in the mirror and accept responsibility in this winnable game that the blew..
So many coaches abandon the running game too soon.
Maybe because passing has become so easy with all the rule changes…
True Loo, but when u have Patrick Mahomes u can abandon the run quicker, not the same when the 49ers have Jimmy G a 2nd rate QB in comparison.
But I guess why try and run , when u can get 40 yards on a BS call by the refs on pass interference by just chucking it downfield.Cornerbacks the most miserable job in football I feel sorry for them always under a microscope, they get less respect then Rodney Dangerfield..
The Titans clearly made an adjustment at halftime that resulted in Brown being easy to target and hit. Again, it was clear they couldn’t do jackshit in the first half (before the adjustment). Shanny should have tried to score at the end instead of giving up. If he had to give the ball back it would have been to a team that had done squat in the first half offensively.
The other issue is that after Tenn made whatever adjustment they made our D-co clearly had no fucking answer at all for it. Again, shitty coaching.
Yeah halftime adjustments are keys for all football teams rather going good are definitely going bad!
Titans had 3 OL starters out and the Niners took advantage in the 1st half, but where was that same dominance in the 2nd half? So I guess DC Ryan’s got schooled too against their OC’s backups after halftime which they should of kicked ass against all game but didn’t..
Niners brain trust screwed up royally in their D backfield personnel planning and drafting. The cornerback play is obviously horrific, that Thomas kid out there looks clueless on how to defend a ball coming his way. If they sneak into the playoffs, a really good QB is going to torch them…
For me, the worst loss is always the one that just happened. Or maybe it’s the last one the team gave away, yeah that’s it..
A sunny balmy Christmas morning here in Saigon, Christmas Eve for you all. Just want to wish all Flappers in Flap Universe a peaceful time in Christmas and new year. You all rock.

to all reaches of the Flap Universe for well wishes and holiday kisses , champagne 🍾 caviar and truffles with cracked crab 🦀 and lobster, hey why not have both Lewis (Trading Places) I agree ☝️
Thanks, Kat! You too… “Looking good, Lewis!”
Their halftime adjustment was to send Brown and Jones on deeper routes on 3rd down.
I have hope for Ambry. He’s a rook and made some plays. Norman is washed up and has not made a play on ONE pass. That they have avoided CBs for years is plain short sighted.
agree on Thomas. I think he could work out.
From Atlantic to Pacific
Gee, Garoppolo’s horrific.
Anybody watch “Don’t Look Up” on Netflix yet? Curious what people thought. I’m actually gonna watch it again, I think I dozed off a couple times last night (not because it was boring, just because I’m old).
i watched Falling Down tonight. Movie has held up through the years.
Agree, re-watched that not too long ago.
