Wild Card Weekend In The Books!
Well that long weekend ended with a thud. I hate people that say a team didn’t come to play but that was just unreal watching all the things the Cardinals couldn’t get done.
Now the focus turns to Green Bay. Everyone says we can run on them and I’m assuming that’s a necessity if we want a chance of winning up there this time of year. The Rams can beat the Bucs. Are we looking at another trip to LA for the right to go to another Super Bowl?
Getting ahead of myself but still fun to think about….
A week after SF owned line of scrimmage vs. Rams in second half, LA comes out and runs football/thrashes Murray.
it’s possible Kingsbury doesn’t know what he’s doing.
Cards faded badly down the stretch losing 4 of last 5, including at home vs. Lions. Their lone win? At Dallas in a game the Cowboys shot themselves in the foot with penalties and then whined about it afterward (sound familiar?), Cards still had a chance to win the division but lost to a bad Seahawks team. This was nothing more than the superior Rams beating the crap out of a Cards team that limped into the playoffs.
As Flav said, Kingsbury not looking like sharpest tool in the coaching shed. More important though, Murray was guy with ball in his hands all night, like in his own end zone when he threw shortest pick 6 in playoff history.
If you make bad decisions and do stupid stuff with ball, all mobility arm strength and speed in world isn’t gonna help you.
Very curious as to how well the Niners O line did against LA’s D line and how badly AZ did. We have always been able to neutralize (somewhat) Aaron Donald and get the better of the Rams, even with Von Zipper now, but look like shit against those Cards, who did little against Stafford. But those AZ games were a long time ago.
0-4 vs the Cards and Seattle, 2-4 vs the west, and still reach the playoffs. Strangest season ever.
Would the Rams tanking the 2nd half against the 9ers have helped LA in the playoff picture some way? Because the Rams sure played like a different team last night.
I don’t think it affected anything since AZ lost and Tampa won, so there was no way to realistically get any higher. If AZ had won, LA would have dropped to 5th. And played AZ in AZ.
Hey, maybe they just wanted the Saints out. Then again, maybe they just suck and AZ sucks more.
Doesn’t really matter I guess, it’s Tundra time.
Just like last year the Cards folded the 2nd half of the season. It’s what happens after a small running QB keeps getting hammered. Defenses have figured ways to mostly contain him so he has to use his wr’s and running backs which were also beat up by this time.
Kliff Kingsbury
(3y at ArIzona)
Weeks 1-7: 15-5-1
After Week 7: 9-20
Kingsbury and Murray both looked like rookies last night.Kingbury has no clue on in game adjustments and Murray’s best assets his running was never used like they already determined that’s not going to be part of his shitty game plan.. Hey I wouldn’t be shocked if Murray goes back to baseball to help energize the game playing with the A’s leading off since they still own his rights..
His career might last longer.
Losing DeAndre Hopkins can’t be understated.
If AZ/Murray has a bad year next year, I can see him bailing out on football. Then again,he’ll be reaching his first big FA deal which will be in the hundreds of millions come 2023. AZ could even franchise tag him that 5th year (2023) so he stands to get $130 mill or whatever the top 5 QB average is.
Going to baseball means nothing near that salary.
He’s a really good football player. He’s like a Mike Vick but a lot better passer. He’s such a competitor that unless he gets hurt badly I don’t think he will leave football.
This site went live today:
http://www.covidtests.gov
Literally takes 30 seconds and they’ll mail you 4 test kits…
#psaloo
Yeah, I signed up for it, plus each to be sent to my two snarkettes at college.
Given the taxes I’m paying, I figure the gov’t owes me a couple thousand more kits. We’ve just recently gone through about 8 tests while the snarkettes were home for holidays, and this Omicron variant is spreading like wildfire. They are hella hard to find in the stores. I figure they aren’t too accurate, from what I’ve read. However, if you get the same result from two tests a couple of days apart, likely that result is accurate…
Yeah Loo, thanks for posting, my sister sent me the link earlier and I already signed up! Free is good and since no CC information it’s legit!
where’s everyone stand on this…
don’t forget, shorter week to recover and um gametime temp in GB Saturday night supposed to be 17 degrees.
Jimmy didn’t the 49ers this far to miss this game ,he will start, but maybe get extra some reps in for Lance atleast for some possible surprise plays.
And no way either Warner(ankle sprain) are Bosa (concussion) miss this game either, it’s the playoffs, get extra treatment on the ankle and rest same with Bosa ( he will clear protocol)no need for these 2 studs to just suit up Saturday only..
Eric Branch in Chron mentioned the hit that might have messed up G occurred with about 3 minutes to go in first half. Gregory hit him as he threw incomplete pass and he landed on right shoulder, possibly in attempt not to fall on injured hand and thumb. Brunskill then lifted him up to his feet by grabbing his right arm and G winced in pain as he went to sideline. No more first half throws after that.
Comparing second half to first, not “good Jimmy”, and very few beyond 10 yd distance from line of scrimmage.
Niners only score of second half came very first play after the int by Williams in 3rd Q, the 26 yd run on sweep by Samuel.
First half drives before he got hurt: 3 FGs and TD including yds of 41 56 and 75.
Second half beside the one TD after pick: 4 punts 1 int “drives” of 15 18 23 and 11 yds. Yds of course doesn’t include penalties by Boys.
I’m kinda bummed that Bills/Chiefs must play in this next round. Seems more like a championship matchup. I’ve not been overly impressed with either Titans or Bengals. So it goes.
Titans beat both on consecutive weeks at home in regular season.
Oh, there you go again, countering my light-weight opinions with facts….. 🙂
Well, you aren’t gonna hear anything from the team regarding Jimmy’s health.
This is exactly why the Niners took Lance.
JimmyG is an injury or two waiting to happen…
Since original column came out Branch has updated it with direct quotes from G. When he first got hit and fell, he admitted he went to put his hand out but thought better of it–“So I tried to catch it with my elbow a little bit and just jammed the shoulder.”
Shanahan didn’t think shoulder impacted drop off in second half but told reporter, “…ask him.” What?
so Branch did, and G said, “Being a QB it affects every throw…no excuses or anything like that, but the injury is what it is.”
Branch says, “The evidence suggests G’s aching right arm factored into his painful second half stats.” Agreed.
First half 11-14 for 133 yds and downfield passes of 11 12 and 27 yds beyond LOS. Branch mentions beauty of 3rd and 10 pass to Jennings in first Q on sideline out when he had dropped back 10 yds and hit him for 11 yd gain and first down.
Second half “completed 5-11 passes for 39 yds and none of his completions traveled 9 yds beyond the LOS.”
Yikes. Saw that in the Chron this morning. They showed the game on the NFL NW last night and I saw the hit. Didn’t look too too terrible, but he was in pain when Tomlinson tried to pick him up.
Oh boy. What a trip it would be for Lance to start. I’m sure the GB fans still smart from the 181 rushing yards (and 265 passing) Kaepernick laid on them in that other playoff night game in Green Bay in 2013.
At least Shanahan has to have him ready to go should G take another hit that messes him up that bad. I find what he said about questions Branch raised to be really odd…his shoulder injury in addition to effed up thumb didn’t make a difference? wow
Kinda makes you wonder what’s going on in his head. I doubt that he can’t help looking a little forward to a possible meeting with his old mentor in Tampa. I think it’s a 50/50 shot in GB this week even if Lance is starting.
You all saw how Murray self destructed against the Rams,I don’t want to see that happening to Lance if he starts his 1st ever playoff game.Tons of pressure on a rook to get the job done. He’s better used in getting a few packages setups Shanahan can design which he should use just to screw with the Packers DC some.
Guess we will know early on if they get the good Jimmy (1st half when he was solid) are the bad 2nd half Jimmy with his pick and luckily a floater short hopped to Kittle who ended up fumbling in which would of been a killer.
Expect control easy throws and a heavy dose of the run game with Mitchell and hopefully control the clock and keep Rodgers on the sidelines as much as possible!
Not that Rodgers needs another weapon back ( though I think he’s washed) Randall Cobb will be active after 7 weeks off due to core muscle surgery, amazing how professional athletes can recover compared to us mere mortals lol 😂
Lance played for North Dakota State–weather shouldn’t bother him, or magnitude of the game either. The “bad G” showed up after shoulder injury. If he can’t throw 10 yds down field, D will just line up as many in box as they can to shut down run and short passing game. Lance should be plenty ready– works with scout team vs. front line D all week in practice and has plenty of guys to throw to.
Same with Kittle, who grew up in Iowa and went to U of same. His high for receptions in any one season in 4 yrs there was 22–he mostly blocked. at 2 PM (now) in Des Moines, it’s 11 degrees.
With the way the Niners looked most of the year I never expected to get this far. I would take Lance over a gimpy Jimmy if that’s the case. I agree with Willedav I don’t think the game would be to big for him. Listening to him talk he seems like the most level headed guy on the team.
Good chance we lose Peters to the Giants for their GM job. That is good for him but not so much for us. Pretty sure most of the coming in the later rounds were mostly because of him. I would bet he had nothing to do with Solomon, Foster, or Pettis.
gems
AK we should be able to block better than AZ did. For whatever reason we do a better job of that than most when it comes to the Rams.
Saturday’s GB weather report.
thanks, that was nice. Oscar Peterson on piano there i believe, Joe Newman on trumpet.
Never liked this band very much, but this song is pretty great. Listened to this when I drove my ass to live in Colorado to be a ski bum.
Drove into Salt Lake City at 3 am coked up for the last push to Aspen and saw the most insane lightning storm over the mountains behind the city.
Just did the drive again to Montana during the apocalypse.
I love cross country trips even if you’ve been on the same route before.
Took Hwy 40 going east to Denver early70s with a couple of college students going back to U of Denver. Beautiful drive across mountains, but…stopped for breakfast in Heber City Utah and man it was like Easy Rider flashback with everyone inside looking at you once we sat down and ate. Got out of there as fast and quietly as we could
I-80 has good old Bendover Utah right there on the Nevada border. I always stop in there just to check out all the Mormons going wild in West Bendover. And don’t forget Charlie’s Liquors in Hawthorne NV.
Heh heh. Did highway 50 coming back from Colo one of the times (loneliest highway in the country). Man, what a cool desolate starkly beautiful drive. You go through parts of Moab and the painted desert in Utah iirc. Nevada though is just high scrub. Must have killed about 25 rabbits. I have never seen this anywhere else but highway 50 where you will see 10-15 jackrabbits standing on the edge of the highway at night, and one will invariably step out and get hit. Missed a few but hit a lot.
For me, the Bronx is an epic journey at this point…
Chiefs LB Willie Gay arrested for assaulting a vacuum cleaner…
That sucks.
Gay sex with an appliance?
So I guess Willie Gay is anti vacs?🤷♂️
Warner and JG not on the injury list. Bosa questionable. Unlucky we play Saturday:(
Giants paid Cueto roughly $115 million to go 21-22 from 2017 thru 2022.
I know he had TJ and was a great competitor but man that’s horrendous.
And the less said about Smardj the better.
No wonder they let Gause go free for big bucks…
agreed. Paying big bucks for a FA pitcher is just stupid. Luckily Z knows this.
what Gausman did in first half that helped get SF to 107 Ws and first in Division still has to be replaced. We’ll see if Z did enough to cover pitching this season.
Least of Giants problems is $$
Thay all practiced. They are all gonna play. This is pretty awesome…
I hear on sports radio people setting up lists of top 5 all time NBA players and similar repetitive stuff to keep content going on their shows. It’s insane that some of these yayhoos don’t put Kareem in the top 5. Anybody paying attention to sports in his heyday from UCLA through the Lakers knows that he is not only in the top 5, he just might be #1. If I had a choice to start a team with anybody in their prime from the history of the NBA, it would not be Lebron or Steph. It would be Jordan first, then Kareem over Wilt…
djloo27 said, on March 31, 2021 at 4:41 pm (Edit)
Kareem’s the G.O.A.T.
After that take your pick: Wilt, Oscar, MJ, LBJ, Magic, Russell
If I’m starting a team – my choice is Kareem…
Cueto’s biggest game was gonna be the one he never got a chance to pitch–game 5 of 2016 NLDS.
He lost game 1 1-0 on HR by Javier Baez in bottom 8. Complete game 8 IP 3 hits 0 BB 10 Ks 118 pitches.
Bryant had one of 3 hits, double.
Unreal. Warriors lose to a shitty Pacers team down 5 starters. 5. At home. 21 turnovers.
