A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

The Dream Continues

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on January 23, 2022

Another guy I can’t ever complain about again: Robbie Gould. That was no chip shot in those conditions. This team is flawed and I haven’t brought myself to peak at the injury report yet. But goddamn that’s now THREE games in a row that delivered us some of the highest highs you can get from watching sports.

And then there’s this guy. Life of the unvaccinated sure looks rough:

Our man Snarkk said on yesterday’s thread at 9:30am, calling on special teams to step up: “When was the last time there was a positive, big time special teams runback for the Niners?” Called that one…

Watching the video of that blocked punt, that play is nearly surreal after the actual block; the players kind of milling around, looking up, looking down, where’s the ball? It was like it had disappeared into the wintry night. And then *thud*, it lands where no one was looking and lay there for the taking. Tremendous sports moment.

Great point about Gould. That was the tougher side of the field to kick as well but it may have been that 3rd and 7 with Deebo getting that first that may have made that kick possible. A slightly longer kick there may have been exponentially tougher. Go Niners. I would love to see the battle with the Bucs and Brady next week but I have a teeny about the Rams. Now 7-0 in my playoffs picks!!!

    • willedav said, on January 23, 2022 at 7:46 am

Yes. Postgame guys on radio were talking about that play, and play call.

  3. Bozo said, on January 23, 2022 at 7:19 am

    Must see TV, you betcha.

Apparently the MLB players’ union is presenting a big counter-offer to the owners this week. Who knows what concessions they’ve offered, and what things they refuse to budge on. It seems likely the two sides will come to terms before Spring Training. The last thing the sport needs is a work-stoppage. The sport is already about to slide beneath auto-racing in popularity, if it hasn’t already.

    • Giant Head said, on January 23, 2022 at 12:12 pm

I think it is a sign they will never be close by the time spring training is supposed to start. This is going to be very protracted.

i’d say Robbie was in the zone last night….

    • snarkk said, on January 23, 2022 at 11:40 am

That may be the most “in you face” psych act I’ve ever seen by a kicker against the opposition, before or during a game. Has anybody else seen anything like this?
A premonition for things to come at the end of game…

  6. Flavor said, on January 23, 2022 at 8:17 am

why can’t i find any real news on Deebo and Trent’s injuries? They looked bad and all I’m reading is “they went for xrays”

    • willedav said, on January 23, 2022 at 8:55 am

mm beat writers will be all over this.

      • Flavor said, on January 23, 2022 at 11:17 am

        They aren’t that’s why I posted this

      • willedav said, on January 23, 2022 at 12:35 pm

Because Niners won’t allow anything to be said “officially” til they release news.

    • alleykat69 said, on January 23, 2022 at 10:00 am

Not sure with Williams he left on crutches to get x-rays..
But Shanahan didn’t see to worried about Deeb who was out on the field celebrating with his teammates and telling Stacey Dales (NFL Network) that I’m ok ..

  7. alleykat69 said, on January 23, 2022 at 9:46 am

Hey Aaron you can keep on owning the Chicago Bears lol nobody cares!
But it’s the SF 49ers who “OWN” you to the tune of 4 straight playoff losses, so own that fact Jack!
Guess Aaron’s lack immunization runs out for SB appearances as well…

Yeah the Special Teams were “Outstanding A+, I was calling for an extra wrinkle over on Chuck’s blog about how Shanahan needed to throw an extra wrinkle and said he use Deebo on a kickoff are punt return and he did and it paid off bigtime, especially that KO to start the 2nd half after another momentum builder Ward’s block FG attempt a start of a game changer..
And the Defense was constantly in Rodgers ear hole all night, just tremendous play, after their opening drive that had everyone thinking shit this could get ugly fast.Instead they ratched up the pressure and stood their ground..
And my lord,Jordan Willis who came in banged up as well with the play of the night on that Punt Block which P/A mentioned “disappeared forever into the wintry night”clearly broke the Packers Backs!!!

Road Warriors recent incredible wins..Cinn, Rams ( just to get in the playoffs) Dallas, now the Packers! This team is relentless and have peaked at the perfect time to run the table

KC weather looks about same as NYC, mid 30s.

  9. Winder said, on January 23, 2022 at 10:47 am

I don’t know how anyone quantifies the ‘It’ factor. I believe the 49ers got ‘it’ going right now. A little luck with the ball bouncing our way doesn’t hurt a bit either.

Ah, death at age 95 reported for renowned Buddhist monk and prolific author Thich Nhat Hanh, in Hue. His books were short tracts packed with many useful teachings.

  11. snarkk said, on January 23, 2022 at 11:39 am

In that photo, Rodgers appears to have decided to wear his chin strap across his nose instead of a mask…

    • willedav said, on January 23, 2022 at 12:28 pm

blogger on Athletic said something like it was his worst loss in “Moderna era.”

  12. willedav said, on January 23, 2022 at 1:14 pm

wow story on Yahoo said Gonzaga took away John Stockton’s season tickets as he refuses to wear a mask while in attendance. Story goes on to quote some nut job conspiracy claims he makes on an anti vax site, as in hundreds of athletes have died after taking vaccine, and hundreds of thousands are dead because of doing same, getting vaccine.
Completely unverified nonsense from yet another athlete who has done his “research”. yeow.

    • snarkk said, on January 23, 2022 at 3:00 pm

He’s just a liar, like Rodgers.
All anti-vaxxers who have no legitimate medical reason to avoid, which is almost all of them, are liars…

  13. Winder said, on January 23, 2022 at 2:05 pm

Looks like we go back to LA.

  14. alleykat69 said, on January 23, 2022 at 2:49 pm

I’d be fine with that Winder Niners don’t need another long road trip game.
And since we OWN the Rams and a sea of red will be present it’s all good!

    • Winder said, on January 23, 2022 at 3:03 pm

Yeah, it doesn’t get any better that a 9er/Ram championship. I will be devastated if we lose but really elated if we win. For a 9er fan this will be like a Superbowl game.

  15. snarkk said, on January 23, 2022 at 2:56 pm

Rams kicker blows a 47 yarder short in 50 degree warm Tampa. Gould hit on the 45 yarder in a snowstorm at 10 degrees and 0 windchill..
Rams doing everything then can to give Brady more chances to steal this one…

  16. snarkk said, on January 23, 2022 at 3:09 pm

Rams are friggin’ hopeless, trying to give this one away…

  17. willedav said, on January 23, 2022 at 3:18 pm

TD Bucs on 4th and inches, whoa.

  18. willedav said, on January 23, 2022 at 3:19 pm

Wasn’t paying attention–what was their biggest lead? I stopped watching at 20-3.

    • willedav said, on January 23, 2022 at 3:20 pm

Rams and 17 point leads, lol.

    • Macdog said, on January 23, 2022 at 3:32 pm

      27-3.

  19. willedav said, on January 23, 2022 at 3:24 pm

    wow rematch.

  20. unca_chuck said, on January 23, 2022 at 3:25 pm

Trent Williams x-rays are negative for his ankle injury.

  21. unca_chuck said, on January 23, 2022 at 3:29 pm

Deebo should be fine. I think he was just generally beat up and gassed. They showed him after the game and he looked fine.

  22. Macdog said, on January 23, 2022 at 3:31 pm

    That was absolute insanity.

  23. unca_chuck said, on January 23, 2022 at 3:31 pm

What a finish!! TB’s defense gags up a hairball.

  24. alleykat69 said, on January 23, 2022 at 3:40 pm

I don’t see any 49er missing this championship game including Williams and Thomas!
Bring it on!! Let’s Go continue your dominance Niners as McVay will see ghosts of Shanahan in his head all offseason!

  25. unca_chuck said, on January 23, 2022 at 3:41 pm

Let’s single-cover their best weapon to finish the game.

  26. unca_chuck said, on January 23, 2022 at 3:43 pm

Thomas needs to be able to go. Johnson is such a liability out there. I was thrilled to see Ryans roll Tartt to double cover Adams.

3 weeks ago I said it would be de ja vu all over again to beat Dallas, Green Bay, and LA in the playoffs.

Here we go!! nd then get Cincy in the Super Bowl!!

  27. Flavor said, on January 23, 2022 at 5:33 pm

The Rams are so beatable. They blew not one but two 17 point leads recently. And it’s great we only have to fly down to LA to play in front of mostly our fans anyway. Kyle’s got mcvay’s number. If our guys are healthy, we win

  28. willedav said, on January 23, 2022 at 6:29 pm

What happened to #21 on TD? Feet get tangled with receiver or just crossed up and fell on his own?

  29. willedav said, on January 23, 2022 at 6:33 pm

    Wow touchdown Tyreek!

  30. willedav said, on January 23, 2022 at 6:46 pm

Man 13 seconds and Mahomes gets to FG range.

  31. alleykat69 said, on January 23, 2022 at 6:53 pm

Madness in KC 25 points scored in final 2 minutes!
Crazy shit how Buffalo can allow a FG with 13 seconds left?
And now KC gets the ball in OT and nobody can stop each other possible gw TD drive right here!
How’s your blood pressure doing Loo?

  32. alleykat69 said, on January 23, 2022 at 6:56 pm

    Unb

    • Macdog said, on January 23, 2022 at 6:58 pm

      Say no more.

  33. alleykat69 said, on January 23, 2022 at 7:00 pm

Unbelievable choke job in the Bills prevent a win defense to allow that tying FG with 13 seconds? It should never be possible until it is possible

  34. Irish Kevin said, on January 23, 2022 at 7:08 pm

Concerning The Rams, like Krukow always says, ownage is ownage

  35. Bozo said, on January 23, 2022 at 7:13 pm

    Congrats, Loo.

    • djloo27 said, on January 23, 2022 at 7:41 pm

      Thanks, Bozo…
Had to be the most insane game ever played.

      • alleykat69 said, on January 23, 2022 at 8:01 pm

Happy for you Loo moving on, but still it was downright stupid on why the Bills after their go ahead TD with 13 seconds left did not just squib the kickoff wasting more valuable seconds ? I doubt Butkner doesn’t even get a chance at the end to tie it.. But whatever hell of game just another cardiac game this weekend of crazy exciting football!!

      • djloo27 said, on January 23, 2022 at 8:27 pm

In fairness, Buffalo got screwed by the stupid overtime rule just as the Chiefs did 3 years ago vs. Pats in the AFC title game. You have to let both teams possess the ball…

      • paul sorensen said, on January 23, 2022 at 9:30 pm

Yeah, they really need to change that rule, it’s terrible.

  36. willedav said, on January 23, 2022 at 9:46 pm

Fantastic game. As long as we’re talking about a “rematch”…

The college rule from couple years ago wasn’t bad, where both teams get possession from 25. That leaves part of special teams out of it though, no kick offs or punts or returns, which is also a flaw. Wasn’t Arkansas involved in 7 OT game or something? Ridiculous.
Now they’ve just made it sillier with 2 pt tries being deciding factor.

  37. paul sorensen said, on January 23, 2022 at 10:00 pm

Who was that “color commentator” for that game? Romo? Why the fuck was he always shouting? Kinda annoying.

    • djloo27 said, on January 23, 2022 at 10:17 pm

Romo (color) and Nantz (play by play) drove me fuckin insane with their absolute non-stop chatter.
They refuse to let the game breathe for a millisecond.
The commercial with the talking carton of doody samples was more tolerable than those two…

      • paul sorensen said, on January 23, 2022 at 11:02 pm

Agree about letting the game breathe. There were some games this season (done by Fox, I think, but could be wrong) when more than half of the plays were going and the guys were talking about something else that they’d started talking about before the play, and only when the play was finished did they mention what happened. STFU already.

  38. alleykat69 said, on January 23, 2022 at 10:41 pm

Yeah I’m sick and tired of Romo and I bet Nantz is too having have 2 play second fiddle salary wise, I get that with the football knowledge more and I can just tell they both try an needle each other when they can..
I particularly cant stand Romo’s cockiness like he’s trying to predict every freaking play before it develops, and he was totally Homer for the Cowboys last week it was pathetic!!

I do agree the playoff form for OT liked Loo mentioned and others is screwed up! Hard fought battles should not be settled in OT by a coin flip drive the field TD with the opponent QB sitting on his ass frustrated knowing his fate is sealed without a possession in most cases! Maybe a college scenario atleast, both team start at the opponent’s 25 yard line but have to score and also have to go for a 2 point conversion, seems more fair imo..
