Overrated LA
The Rams are 4.5 favorites? Look, I know the Bengals have some issues with their OL that LA should be able to exploit but if you can go into KC and take down the great Mahomes when you spot him a 21-3 lead, in that environment, I’m betting they can get past a Rams teams that specializes in blowing 17 point leads.
I’ll be rooting hard for Cincy regardless.
Jeez, dead zone for sports for Big Flavor right now. NBA doesn’t really do it for me. Hockey is stupid. And with football just about wrapped up I would usually be staring out that damn window with Chi with feverish excitement for baseball to start but that seems a lifetime away from happening right now.
Being the gambling master that you are Flav did Vegas lose a bit on the Niners at +3.5 and just beating the spread and trying to get Bengal fans and the bandwagon to jump on that line??? Should be a good game regardless.
i had a two team parlay, Cinn ML to NIners ML so I don’t know how vegas did but they got my $$$$
Chi’s window would be a cool spot for a Flapalooza…
well, theoretically….
It’s a great view, but would be a little tight…as it is my office. Great view west. On a clear day I can see the coast range (about 100 miles away). I’d rather be gearing-up for a trip to Scottsdale and ST games. Sign…

mm watching more NBA than I have in years. Seeing a guy get 40 like Curry did last night is awesome, League is wide open and full of good teams in West and East and I dig seeing left coast guys I watched play college ball try and make mark at next level.
i play a lot of daily NBA fantasy at draftkings. I love doing the research and building teams but I can’t stand watching games, lol. I watch parts of games if I have a few guys going on the streameast website Loo turned me on to. That one is 10 times better than bilasport
Happen to catch Kevin Porter Jr. (noted nut job who used to get suspended at USC and has carried that over into NBA) staring down and trash talking Curry? Not recommended! As Toscano said, “You gotta know what you’re stepping into.”
yes. hilarious. And I love how he agressively hiked up his shorts
Baseball content in Athletic ranges from Giants coverage by the great Baggs to weirdo Grant Brisbee. To keep stove lukewarm at least he has had series of columns around what Giants should do once things get settled.
Latest centered around idea that if DH is really coming to NL this seaon, that would be good opportunity for them to add a bat. Tossed names out there like Schwarber Soler yada yada you would not normally consider for OF.
There is always room at the window, Flav. And it looks like I may be sitting for a spell. Fucking owners and players union need to get their shit together and get this done, so we can get back to what we’re supposed to be doing…talking baseball, ST, roster moves, yada yada…
I had thought that baseball would have worked it out by now. Now it’s nothing but a power move. To bad for everyone involved. But I will say fuck the owners.
Bilasport is dead. As is Liveonscore. Streameast is the go-to now. The halftime shows are epic. If not seizure inducing.
I had a few 9er games where I just watched the play-by-play graphic after Bilasport went down.
Streameast.io is the new site for Warriors games.
NFL is the only sport that is broadcast over network TV.
I agree with ya, Winder. The owners and Manfred wanted the lockout. After they already went through a short season and fan lockout with Covid, I’d think that both sides would have agreed to continue this year with the last agreement while hashing out a new one during the season, but no.
At this point, I don’t think the players should give into anything. Perhaps if the players stated that going forward, they would only meet for discussions on the 1st of every month negotiations might speed up.
Yeah, I am for anything that works.
Like DH something that appears to be coming is expanded playoffs, from current 10 to 12 or 14. Big rake in $$ for owners, so if players agree, hopefully they get something in return like increase in league minimum salary and owners do something to discourage tanking/revenue sharing $$ to bottom feeders. Any movement on shortening path to arb years or FA seems to hit wall with MLB.
I am not sure of the average time most players end up in the bigs but my understanding is that clubs pretty much control the first 4 years of a players career regardless of quality of play. I know that exceptional players hit the big time quickly it’s the average competent players that get stuck. I think this is a big issue for the players.
Just looked up Yaz salary–far as I can find out he’s making $600 K. Arb eligible this year, FA in 2026. Solid player with 3 seasons behind him, making barely above league min. Years of control matter.
Might want to move away from that window:
USA Today…
Players made a proposal that contained two changes,
Lowering their plan for a pool to pay pre-arbitration players from 105 mil to 100 mil
and cutting the the number of players impacted by proposed service-time anti manipulation rules..
Owners will respond to the Union perhaps later this week, but it has been clear there is little chance
Spring Training will start as scheduled on Feb16.
In a sign of lack of progress, the Union has started to distribute withheld money to players from its stoppage fund.
Yes staring out of Chi’s window 🪟 even longer looks inevitable! Need any extra Windex Window Cleaner Chi? this could last awhile sadly.
The average MLB salary is something around $ 3.8 million; I think the minimum is about $550K.
So, the MLBPA is ready to distribute strike funds? I find that pretty laughable. How many guys can’t live off the past couple of years for a month or two? It’s not like these guys are SEIU members cleaning hospitals and offices for barely a living wage. I predicted that at worst they’d delay Opening Day by two weeks. Looks like I may have assumed both sides learned their lesson in the past. But, greed is a strong character failure…
14 playoff teams means December baseball. Jesus. The greed knows no end.
Look at the NFL and their expanded playoffs and 17 game schedule. I give it 4 years before they get rid of all the preseason and impose an 18 game season.
With Super Bowl on President’s weekend…
Either they play the WSeries in snowstorms or they move it to an annual rota of warm weather cities, like a Super Bowl…
this lawsuit by Flores, if he’s got receipts, is going to bring the NFL to its knees…..
“the Washington Commanders”….it’s wild that a billion dollar operation could fuck something up so badly….
Such a cheesy name Commanders? Captain Crunch going to be the team mascot?
Then again the dumbest owner in football Daniel Snyder it makes sense!
getting into it with George Karl on twitter right now. LOL that’s why i love that site.
Get’m Flav!
Re: the Flores suit, I love this quote in the story on NFL’s site, from the Broncos organization: “Our interview with Mr. Flores regarding our head coaching position began promptly at the scheduled time of 7:30 a.m. on Jan. 5, 2019, in a Providence, R.I., hotel.” From what I’ve seen in the past, nothing good comes from a 7:30am *inteview* at a Providence hotel. Substitute the bit about a head coaching position and replace it with “regarding making an offer he couldn’t refuse” and maybe you got it right….
The Rooney rule is an insult to the people it’s supposed to help…
Belichick apparently told Flores before he interviewed that the job had already been decided to be given to somebody else. Weirdly loose lips by the normally near-mute Belichick…
The charges will probably be dropped.
If not this case will be thrown right out.
-F. Loo Bailey
In Feinstein book, Bienemy said one team called him and told him they were only interviewing him to satisfy Rooney rule, and wanted to do it over the phone instead of having him fly out. He told them, “Let’s not and say we did.” As Loo said last night, Rooney rule is an insult. Maybe just unintended consequences, maybe not.
Flores suit is long overdue.
Is anyone really surprised by this? Look at the owners. Rich white Trumpers most of ’em. Look at how well they handled the Kaepernick situation.
Who’s to say even Jed didn’t play his part in that. He dismantled the team after Colin signed that team-friendly deal that was supposed to keep the team together. Instead Crabtree, Gore, and VD were all gone, Harbaugh bailed, and the team was awful.
David Green passed last week. He was part of Jack Clark trade with STL, along with Jose Uribe. Prior season he had hit 15 bombs for Cards but only hit 5 for SF and rest of his offense fell apart too. Dealt off for infamous PTBNL.
Didn’t that turn into Jose Uribe?
Nvrmnd. Missed that in your post.
This had me laughing. The Flores deal. Wonder if the Broncos sale is part of the impending fallout. What a fucking sham:
Fins denying what Flores said about tanking too. Be interesting to see how that unfolds.
Disgusting to see how owners circling the wagons over this BS.
I guess the Washington Generals was already taken.
😀
There are 13 Black coaches in the NBA per at least one report I’ve seen on the Internet. Lots of assistant coaches.
On the radio, I heard a good analogy. About 70% of the players in the NFL are Black.
The NHL players are essentially all White – from Europe, Canada, the US. What if all but one of the head coaches in the NHL were Black — wouldn’t we say there was something really weird going on there?…
32 Billionaire white owners aren’t going to give a shit about some token BS Rooney rule which has been just lip service from the beginning and should just be abolished. Most dumbest thing you can’t even blame idiot Commissioner Rodger Goodell on this one, his hands are tied on who a team eventually hires as HC.
Mike Tomlin again the only “Uncle Tom Black”coach left, ironically from the Steelers under the Art Rooney rule protection program till he decides to finally quit..
Brian Flores also reported that Dolphins Owner Steve Ross was offering him 100k a game for tanking games in 2019 so they could end up with the 1st pick in the upcoming draft, he refused and they ended up drafting 5th.
Yeah lots of shit will be coming out for sure but will it matter? Flores will never coach again just like Kappy never played again, just to make statements nobody will listen too on hiring black coaches..
Yep. Exactly. Said the same thing earlier. The owners will ALWAYS be bigger than the game. Just like baseball. The owners was more more more. More playoff games, more control over the arbitration clock. More control over the money they don’t have to spend on their teams. Hello Oakland and Pittsburgh.
Seeing Elway as being part of this is a little unnerving. You’d think he would have a little more empathy for the situation. Like the supreme court overturning the voter rights act because, you know, racism is over.
Shea says Giants to retire Wil Clark’s number this year July 30 Saturday game.
Might as well bring Jack the Ripper to the festivities.
mm Hal Lanier too.
In 8 years (!) with Giants, over 1100 games and 3500 ABs, he hit 8 HRs.
Slash line for SF: .229/255/.277. Sure was different era, huh?
Lanier was there when i first got real interested in the Giants around 1968. The original .000-fer. Then they (thank God) brought in Chris Speier.
Yeah, I remember Hal Lanier. Too well.
His “hitting” sucked balls.
The guy had slightly worse overall offensive stats than Johnny LeMaster.
Fun Fact:
Mays nicknamed Hal Lanier “Maxie” after Hal’s dad Max who was Mays’ teammate early in his career…
Giants rarely had anything decent hitting in front of Mays when he batted 3rd in the order…
Couldn’t stand Hal Lanier,he never even got a hit in batting practice!
I was so happy when the Giants brought up rookie Chris Speier in 71 and finally he displaced Lanier at SS after sharing useless time with him for part of that season. And guess what they won the division with the youthful Speier help leading the way!
In case you missed it the first 10 times I posted it, this is the illustrious crew that has worn #22 for the Giants since Will’s departure…
Rikkert Faneyte
David McCarty
Osvaldo Fernandez
Damon Minor
Eric Davis
Kurt Ainsworth
Jose Cruz, Jr.
Dustan Mohr
Mike Matheny
Matt Morris
Keiichi Yabu
Eli Whiteside
Cole Gillespie
Roger Kieschnick
Jake Peavy
Dan Uggla
Christian Arroyo
Andrew McCutchen
Lanier had some value as a utility player. Except for 1st base and Jim Ray Hart the Giants infield rarely hit. I did like Hiller at times but none of em could be counted on to get a hit
Well, we did have McCovey.
and Cepeda
That’s what I meant about 60s (etc.) being a different era–it’s like no one cared so much if middle IFs didn’t hit, it was more about the glove. How could a guy like Lanier last so long?
Mark Belanger’s career as SS for O’s (and one final one with LA) ,18 years and 8 gold gloves:
20 HRs slash line .228/.300/.280 .580 OPS.
Yeah, i don’t believe Davenport would have lasted at 3rd as long in this day.
Even with Jose Uribe, who had one outlier season in 87 when he hit .291, for his 8 year career with SF he had OPS of .614, and 5 of those years it was .601 or worse.
Dal Maxvill, the Hal Lanier of the 60’s Cardinals…
Exactly. All Star starter once iirc–didn’t entire Cards IF make it one season?
Got to get me a Dustan Mohr jersey.
Welcome to L.A. (I know the Oakland restaurant the victim owns. I have lunch there fairly often.)
