A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

The Thrill

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on February 3, 2022

I know everyone saw this the other day but we need a new thread. The Giants have finally gotten around to retiring #22. I see they are making it part of a huge ticket marketing scheme. Whatever, at least it’s getting done. For a Giants fan my age if you asked who your favorite Giant of all time is I bet 90% of us would say Will Clark…..

Of course you know that I am 100% in agreement. The Thrill above everyone else.

Ok Flav, looking for daily fantasy advice. saw your thread about daily fantasy and one thing I never had done was regular season nba. Have done playoffs and do in season fantasy. So gave it a go and had a nice $120 in wins and best was in a 400 player tourney and came in 2nd and 5th.

As in baseball I tend to do better with smaller contests but then the money is not as lucrative. What size contests do you and whomever else plays daily nba focus on. Also how do you find the time to break things down. I was up at 5 am and spent an hour and then another hour. How do you win the big dollas????

    • Giant Head said, on February 3, 2022 at 8:00 am

Also some people will do multiple entries with the same lineup. I don’t see the value in that. I am trying to go a base of 4-5 players and rotating PGs and C/PF.

    • Flavor said, on February 3, 2022 at 8:42 am

best piece of advice is to not play a tourney with more than 20 max teams entered (per player)–I usually enter 10-15 in the $4 daily tourney. Single entry is also very good– DK has 2 $5 single entries a day that you should play. I get up very early (lol, as you probably know). And then I follow every NBA beat writer and they’re very good at getting useful info out, the best info comes out after morning shootaround. So I build LU’s early and then make adjustments as news comes out and because it’s twitter it’s streamlined easily and I usually only have to make minor changes before lock.
But NBA is hard man. I have had some big scores but do much better in NFL and MLB. The problem with NBA is the chalk smashes regularly. It’s not like that in NFL/MLB. So if you like playing chalk you’ll like NBA

      • Macdog said, on February 3, 2022 at 8:48 am

I hope you didn’t have Harden on any of your teams last night, that was about as listless a game as I’ve seen him play since he joined the Nets.

      • Giant Head said, on February 3, 2022 at 9:32 am

No I did not. Had Kyrie in one but best pick was The one Ball kid from Charlotte.

      • Flavor said, on February 3, 2022 at 9:02 am

i did not. I played 15 teams across the $1 and $4 tournies, best showing was 55th in the $1 (out of 41,617 contestants)
        oneflapdown77
        RANK
        55
        WINNING
        $40

      • Giant Head said, on February 3, 2022 at 9:34 am

In that 400 group I won $60 and then $30. So sounds like you focus there and not too worried about the tourneys with 50k entries lol. Those are the ones in mlb I just suck at because the sharks seem to hit on the most obscure players having a big game.

      • Giant Head said, on February 3, 2022 at 9:31 am

That is good advice on twitter feed

Willie, from the previous thread, looks like Maxvill was never an all star.
Did get MVP votes in ’68.
Had no idea he won 2 rings with Oakland as well as with Cards.
Postseason career BA of .114 (8 for 70)…

yeah thanks man. Looked him up on the great SABR site and no mention of it at all. Couple fun facts though. Beside the record setting 0-22 in WS, he hit first grand slam ever in ML game in Canada in 1969 game.

      • willedav said, on February 3, 2022 at 8:59 am

world series record for futility set in 1968 by Maxvill.
Grand slam HR at Parc Jarry Montreal hit April 14 1969.

      • unca_chuck said, on February 3, 2022 at 11:09 am

They’ll put a man on the moon before someone hits a grand slam in Canada.

  3. chipower9 said, on February 3, 2022 at 8:29 am

Yep. Saw the news on retiring 22. Great news. And while they will be bending the fans over the barrel on ticket prices, this is one game I will definitely try to make.

Thrill has been my favorite since he and Robby Thomson came-up in ’86.

    • Winder said, on February 3, 2022 at 9:00 am

Both Clark and Thomson sparked a much needed Giants resurgence. Getting Craig didn’t hurt either. It was a good time to be a Giants fan.

    • willedav said, on February 3, 2022 at 9:01 am

Saw in Chron column by Shea that there is some kind of marketing plan around #22 that includes that game in package deal, to be available later this month. Might be on Shea twitter account, or maybe Slusser too.

  4. djloo27 said, on February 3, 2022 at 8:58 am

    Totals as SF Giants:

    Will Clark (8 Seasons – 1160 Games)
    176/709/.299 (.872 OPS)

    Jeff Kent (6 Seasons – 900 Games)
    175/689/.297 (.903 OPS)

    • Giant Head said, on February 3, 2022 at 9:36 am

As you know I love Kent but Will’s entire home career was played at the Stick.

      • Giant Head said, on February 3, 2022 at 9:38 am

And not in the juiced ball era. When Will hit 30 that was a huge huge number. Of course the year Mitchell hit 48 was unimaginable.

  5. willedav said, on February 3, 2022 at 9:20 am

found the promo as noted by Shea.
22 game package known as Thrill 22 Plan.
Get the opener, finale, bobblehead days, day of Willie mac award presented, July 30 day Clark uni retired.

Thanks I am a Fan Duel dude

    • Flavor said, on February 3, 2022 at 9:33 am

      yuck. Why?

    • Flavor said, on February 3, 2022 at 9:37 am

oh 1 more thing, be very careful of back2backs. As you know coaches limit minutes and if you’re playing guys who play the next day you aren’t going to get the minutes you need out of them. That goes for blowouts too

      • Giant Head said, on February 3, 2022 at 9:41 am

I signed up years ago for Fan Duel and then when they added the Sportsbook was too easy just to keep playing with them. I was going with Anthony Davis tonight on a couple of entries with a back to back after a huge night and they are only traveling back to Staples/Crypto and likely no Lebron. But will keep my eye on that.

“Belichick apparently told Flores before he interviewed that the job had already been decided to be given to somebody else. Weirdly loose lips by the normally near-mute Belichick…”

Belichick texted him by accident and thought he was texting the guy that was already being given the job.
Flores was confused why Belichick was congratulating him for getting the job before he’d even been interviewed.

    • djloo27 said, on February 3, 2022 at 2:48 pm

Is anybody amazed that these guys have each others phone numbers?

    • unca_chuck said, on February 3, 2022 at 3:00 pm

It’s a small world after all.

    • snarkk said, on February 3, 2022 at 5:11 pm

      Good info, zum.
      I looked more at this.
Belichick essentially did the equivalent of butt dialing the wrong ex-assistant coach named Brian…

  8. djloo27 said, on February 3, 2022 at 2:59 pm

If they had the technology in 1967, do you think Lombardi would’ve texted Landry?

“Gonna be a little chilly Sunday, bruh. Wear your warm cowboy hat” 😬😂😄
    Vinny

    • Macdog said, on February 3, 2022 at 3:47 pm

I wonder what he would’ve texted Stram: We’re gonna matriculate down your fucking throats!

      • willedav said, on February 3, 2022 at 4:42 pm

Max really isn’t feeling very well. I might sit him today.

A few years ago over here, I was dating someone named Thuy Linh at the same time I was also getting massage regularly from Linh Thuy, unknown to Thuy Linh. One quick careless *oops, wrong girl* chat on WeChat ended Thuy Linh. Interestingly, I still get massa from Linh Thuy now and then. Ah, massage girls, loyal to the end.

Kuminga another highlight reel dunk. Warriors rebuild lead back to 20.

Go Dubs. Finally let go of the Niner game. Olympics too. Go USA!

  13. Winder said, on February 4, 2022 at 8:59 am

Read this morning that there is a good possibility this strike could end up like 94’s. Baseball is playing a tough game if that’s the case. It will affect a bunch of young new baseball fans. Baseball can’t afford to do that IMO.

    • unca_chuck said, on February 4, 2022 at 11:04 am

Attendance got hit hard the last strike. They are gonna end up using those hard/soft baseballs we all used on cement as kids. They were like super balls. Otani will hit 135 home runs in 2023.

  14. Winder said, on February 4, 2022 at 9:01 am

    Totally forgot about this guy.

    • unca_chuck said, on February 4, 2022 at 11:08 am

Never heard of this guy. Though i do remember the Ballad of Bonnie and Clyde.

Been an arrest in the 49er fan Daniel Luna (40)attack that’s left him in an induced coma.
Brian DiFuentes(33) has been charged with felony assault ( released on 30k bail Friday morning)
Thing is a grainy video shows at around 4:30 half hour before the game with other 49er fans, assuming still tailgating?Luna may have first instigated the altercation pushing the Rams fan first in parking lot L and then DiFuentes turned around and hit him the mouth and he fell as his head hit hard on the concrete.

Lots of weird shit going on with this? Security? Reports don’t break out for a few days later? Most fans unaware of the incident?

    • snarkk said, on February 4, 2022 at 1:01 pm

Hard to believe nobody saw what happened if the incident was in the parking lot before the game…

Feb 4 was birthday of Jimmy R Johnson, guitarist and founding member of The Swampers backup band to so many hit makers at Muscle Shoals. Credit list of hit songs he performed on in studio just amazing including hits like Mustang Sally and Aretha’s Respect, plus Stones Sticky Fingers LP. Passed Sept 2019.

  18. alleykat69 said, on February 5, 2022 at 5:05 pm

Man I remember watching Ransom play at Cal, he had tremendous talent and speed!
Think he got drafted by the Warriors, but never played an NBA game?
This god damm I-880 freeway has seen many of senseless random shootings on it in the last few years,I’ll be thinking twice on driving on it anymore!! RIP Gene u sure didn’t deserve to die like this!!

  19. xoot said, on February 5, 2022 at 5:51 pm

Cops arrested a 25 year old guy from San Francisco this morning for the 880 rush hour murder of Ransom.

  20. unca_chuck said, on February 5, 2022 at 5:59 pm

Fucking nuts. It has happened on 80, 580, 680 and 880 recently.

if the tech busses get going on 280 again, it’ll happen there, again.

    • willedav said, on February 6, 2022 at 8:17 am

wow. Sun Devils were 2-7 in league coming in, Bruins 8-2. Great W for Hurley.
Speaking of Jersey, if NCAA Tourney were played at the RAC, Rutgers could win it all. Thrashed Sparty by 20 yesterday and they’ve already beaten Purdue there too.

      • Macdog said, on February 6, 2022 at 8:44 am

Yeah, probably RU’s best game this season. Winning on the road is another matter. Their upcoming schedule is tough, I think their next games are against ranked teams.

      • Macdog said, on February 6, 2022 at 8:45 am

        *next five games*

      • willedav said, on February 6, 2022 at 10:33 am

Mac, Big Ten is supposed to get 7 teams in, very tough league with plenty ranked. Post for Illini ,Cockburn, is beast.
