KB Gonna Cost Too Much
I supported the Kris Bryant trade and it was mildly successful I guess, but here’s why I hope they don’t resign him:

At least we aren’t A’s fans. Chapman to the BlueJays. If I were an A’s fan I’d never go to another game again (tho that’s pretty easy for me to say/do).
They’ll probably move to Vegas soon.
Fair enough, but sample size of Estrada as major league hitter is quite small compared to Bryant. As of next year Giants will need another starting 1b and 3b, and they don’t have ML ready options among prospects. Luciano might grow himself out of IF altogether and rest of good hitters are all OF now.
Bryant’s biggest issue imo was he wasn’t next Marco Scutaro (who did have only one good half season in SF) and living up to expectations.
Yes, sadly, A’s doing what A’s do again, letting go of good young players once they get pricey.
After the lock out, we still have some teams already tanking the season. Yep, it seems the A’s business strategy is to be the best minor league team out there, but it also looks like the Reds are going to give them a run for their money, or should that be, lack of money. I read where Griff’s deferred dollars for 2009-2024, will make him the 5th or 6th highest paid player on the Reds this year, that is fucking obscene, and we’re only talking about $3.6 or something like that. Nothing like trying to win back fans for those cities after the owners were collective dickheads.
I’m pessimistic. Oklnd = Las Vegas.
Having trouble posting so hopefully not the third reply. Just noting we did not get Suzuki…
Is Castellanos worth pursuing??? We need a bat. Suzuki went for more than expected so I can see why Farhan did not chase that rabbit down its hole…
I don’t, though no way to know what Giants offered and if they had room to negotiate. But dang, Suzuki 27 with years of experience behind him and he’s won gold glove as corner OF in NPB. Likely not going to hit for as much power, but projects as decent enough middle order bat. Remember, Giants are replacing one middle order bat lost in Posey, with Casali and Bart. Suzuki imo would have fit perfectly, for years to come.
Castellanos (by any metrics crummy OF) turned down $$ from Reds by opting out, and ain’t gonna have any cheaper AAV.
And re tanking this what the players were arguing about teams not committing to spending on competitive salaries depressing the overall payroll levels.
Castellanos last season had almost Coors like splits.
At home in Cincy, 1.109 OPS 23 HRs ..702 slugging
On road in almost same # ABs, .772 OPS, 11 HRs, .454 slugging
hmmnn
Funny to read that the richest contract in A’s history was the Eric Chavez $66 million deal.
In 2004.
A’s fans are perpetually hoodwinked by their billionaire owner who claims he can’t compete with the big boys. What a fucking joke.
It’s too bad for fans. Used to go there (before Beane days) with buddy of mine, take Bart from Fremont, to see A’s and AL players/teams. Yanks and Boston transplant fans used to show up big time; Giants fans helped pack the place last year.
As he pockets all the revenue sharing money.
Been to 4 A’s games over the last 50 years. Once to see Ted Williams managing the Senators, once was with my brother in law, who brought a pony keg to the bleachers and my 12 year old self had my first few beers, once to see Jeffrey Leonard on the Mariners, and one was a free ticket with some friends from work. Height of the bash brother days. 35,000 people. Back and forth exciting game that the A’s won. , The loudest cheering by a land slide was for the dot racing.
The fans didn’t seen to be aware of what was actually happening on the field. It was weird to say the least.
The absence of Posey seems less a problem than the 2021 numbers of Crawford, Belt, Ruf, and Longoria. Those don’t look reproducible to me. If that group really drops off significantly, whoever they add won’t make that much of a difference. I’m guessing that’s why Zaidi hesitates to pay the big bucks for another bat. A reminder that what any single player adds is the difference between his output and his lesser replacement.
Looks like we are going with our minor league bats which might not be a bad idea. Pitching and defense win championships.
Aug 20-22, 3 game weekend series SF @ Oakland, A’s drew 106 thou, with high of 40 thou Friday night. A’s won that one 4-1, Giants won last 2 (6-5 and 2-1) on late PH bombs by Wade Jr. Saturday and Solano Sunday. McGee saved both games btw.
It’s all about the awesome trophy for me…
Too bad the Giants play the A’s only four times this season instead of six.
Do you like Conforto for us Mac if the years and money aren’t too ridiculous?
Another lefty OF bat, not sure about him, unless as you said they can get him at something reasonable.
Guess Chuck was right even with Z’s past relationship with the A’s Beane will never deal with the Giants!
Chapman are Olson would of been a cornerstone piece to get at 2 positions in desperate need of an upgrade.
Then to back to the lip service again when it comes to Suzuki with money to easily handle his contract, I’m just disappointed that the cubbard is bare, and Z is banking on the likes of Slater,GD,Vosler’s,LaStella’s of the world to produce. Is it really that difficult when you have the spare coin to get involved with an immediate upgrade in need?
Just go ahead and let the Bums add Freeman &Castellanos as well, what do we need them for?
Anybody like Soler?
Anybody but the Giants do…
There done only scrubs left, maybe they go all in for Pujols lol 😂
Alex Dickerson to Braves for 1Y $1M.
Anybody interested in Trevor Story to play 2B?
“Whenever our President speaks I can only think of this…”
It’s so great to have a sane person as president.
At least he’s not recommending we ingest bleach to beat a Covid infection.
And, in my book, he’s kicking Putin’s ass re: Ukraine, where the previous occupant of the Oval Office worked hard to dismantle NATO and was/is a Putin puppet…
Wasn’t meant to start political stuff.
I’ll take it down…
About time we see how these supposed OF prospects of the Giants do in the Big Leagues. I’ve seen pretty much enough of AAAA guys like Duggar and Slater, let’s try some new ones…
As for the A’s, they’ll be getting rid of some more veterans, no doubt.
How anyone can remain a fan of that franchise and continue give it money is beyond me.
If there are still actually season ticket holders, they need a mass Intervention…
I used to get so pissed at Stoneham for doing a lot of the same stuff.
It will be interesting to see how Kap navigates DH in lineup every day. Since SF already has wilmet and ruf, couple defensive liabilities anywhere except 1b, I don’t think adding a Soler type to mix fits Z/Kap flexibility platooney mode. Bottom line, platooney ball did pretty well last year.
During that A’s series Dickerson was DH in 2 of the games and Posey once.
Final game Kap started LHs and then replaced them (Yaz Wade Jr. La Stella) with Solano Slater Ruf.
Toronto BlueJays starting LU is just downright scary!
Starting infield of 3B Chapman, SS Bichette,2B Biggio,1B Guerrero C Jansen
Outfielders Springer, Hernandez DH,Gurriel,Grichuk,etc.. just reeks of offense and power from this starting 9
did I read that correctly: Donnie Barrels to Cincy?
BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!
Wow. Lots of money but he’s probably gonna do real well there.
Good for Bryant, he’ll put up gaudy numbers but never get near the World Series again.
His poor wife will need to contact Bekins again.
I’m glad he’s not coming back. I was not impressed with his short stint with the Giants.
He’s jack of multiple positions but master of none. Yeah, he’ll get inflated hitting numbers there, like he did at Wrigley…
He’ll probably torture us…
For Bryant, Barrels and Dick:
We just landed Pederson.
Jon Morosi of MLB.com reports that the Giants have reached an agreement with free agent outfielder Joc Pederson.
Joctober heads to the Bay Area. It’s been a tumultuous offseason, filled with numerous high-profile departures, but Pederson represents a massive upgrade for the Giants’ corner outfield spots. The 29-year-old righty-masher should benefit from Oracle Park’s new lefty slugger-friendly dimensions and represents a decent late-round option for fantasy managers in deeper mixed
excellent. Bombs away.
Congrats to KB got his money and glad we are not spending that dough. I thought maybe 5 years $100 mill but Rockies have to do something crazy.
Farhan dumpster diving for Joc…lefty DH when needed.
Wow crazy money 7/182 good for KB, No way the Giants get in on that action.I was expecting him to go to the Phillies with his buddy Harper, but nobody was going to touch that insane contract the Rockies threw at him.Enjoy the cellar with the D-backs Kris.
Joc Pederson..meh for me when u already have a shitload of LH bats.Guess u can slide him into some DH AB’s ? Just not a huge fan of this punk, maybe Kap will have to beat the shit out of him once to keep him in line..
Gotta hope the Captain keeps him in line.
And that cubic zirconia thing from 2020 will never be seen in public.
Not quite Brady coming home to the Niners, but why the fuck not? Never liked Pederson but he’ll run into one more than enough. I hope.
Better than Limp Dick Dick Dick.
KB? Laugh all the way to Rocky Mountain Savings and Loan, pal.
Only a 1 year deal for 6 million for Joc, that works in the Z dumpster dive atleast.
Still wish they would of got a RH power bat, but maybe Ramos will get his shot soon..
I think Joc’s a good fit right now. The pearls are dumb, but so is the Capt’s hat. If they rake, how can you care? Keep the knothole cave in RF closed off from the evening winds.
As someone tweeted, Pederson has played on the last two World Series champs.
Not exactly like he helped the Braves much. Went 1-15 in WS. 9-44 overall for ATL postseason.
He’ll be our next Pat Burrell?
Reading Meadows is available from the Rays, no idea what they want from him, but he would be far superior than Joc. If we don’t pursue Castellanos then Ramos has to be given a shot to be the everyday starter in left and see if he is big league material or not.
Just looked up the origin of the term “platoon.” Apparently it was adopted from football, which employed it to describe the separate teams for offense and defense.
Zaidi has passed Belt as my favorite Giant.
And also coming from the French ‘peloton’ and ‘pelota’, meaning “small ball”. So when Jon Miller does his HR call, is he really saying bye bye platoon? Hmmm…
Our platoon is here to stay . . . .
I know. But a guy can dream….
I am obviously not well clued in to MLB salaries and/or players’ individual worth. Bryant gets $26m a year, Joc gets $6m a year? That just seems like a crazy discrepancy, even more so because I’d rather have Joc than KB anyway.
Number of times Joc has hit .250 in his career: ZERO
Numbers at SF are better (scroll down a little):
https://www.baseball-reference.com/tools/split_stats.cgi?full=1¶ms=site%7CSFO03%7Cpederjo01%7Cbat%7CAB%7C
Graduated Palo Alto High!
yes. We played on the same field although juuuuuust a few years apart.
But he’s hit over 250 against RHers multiple seasons!
Rutgers on pace to score about 90, Harper Jr. lighting up Irish. Tremendous block by #5 at rim.
McConnell (22) is having a great game.
ouch second half in 14 minutes they have 6 hoops and 5 turnovers.
Onto OT.
Joc is perfect for our team. We’re the Platoon Kings.
I don’t see any scenario where Grave Digger gets many AB’s..
probably still best defensive CF. If this is all they do, I’d imagine he gets starts there vs. RHP (with Yaz and Wade Jr.) and Joc is DH.
Wade and Bart are the key guys, I’d say…
I think what James said at 9:25 is pretty important. Regression from older guys Belt Crawford Longoria and Ruf would hurt. Would take a lot from others to make up for it.
For sure the pressure will be on Bart, you can’t replace Posey’s experience and bat,Bart is going to need a lot of time adjusting to the pitching staff. His 1st career Giants homer may help him relax though?
OT Rutgers-Irish play in game.
Great play in game going into OT.
I have Rutgers winning it , just thought they’re more athletic, but Norte Dame’s bigs are keeping them in it.Typical March Madness,.
Mmm
Damm Double OT wow!!
Onto 2OT.
Damn.
Wow tough loss for Rutgers as Atkinson for Norte Dame was a savage inside and muscles up the winner 89-87 with 2.7 seconds left
Freeman’s a fuckin’ Dodger…
You just knew it was gonna happen.
Yep, it was inevitable.
Yeah it’s ridiculous they’re is no salary cap.The rich get richer.
Both the NY teams sit at the top with over 230 million spent , the Dodgers third at 220 million
The Giants sit at #13 128 million so basically 6 million over the average of 122 million and standing pat..
