Irritating thing I hate that the Giants do is baby talking the players name and that’s from Kapler, the players,K&K, all saying that, there not in preschool ferchrissakes, usually adding a Y..
Kappy,Webby,Yazzy,Belty,Duggy,Woody,Cobby,Ruffy,etc
Man, tell me about it. This bugs the hell out of me for some reason. I think baseball players are not the brightest bulbs and this is one example.
In terms of what’s happening this spring, I’m listening to pieces of the game on the radio just because I like to drive around and listen to baseball. But other than that I have no idea what’s going on with the team.
Does Ramos have a chance to make the roster?
I heard he’s on the 40 man roster so yeah. He’s on the yoyo string. Only 5 trips tho?
“Cainer” was like fingernails on a chalk board to me.
Don’t forget Vogey!
Baggs (in Athletic yesterday) said “no” to Ramos starting season in SF but did say they could call him up on merit, later. And yes options mean that could happen 5 times.
Column in Chron on Longoria, who said it took to mid January after offseason training with Performance Fitness System in Phoenix area before his shoulder was close to 100%. Finger bothers him but thinks he only needs 20 ABs in ST to be ready for opener, which should be doable.
He had 5th best OPS on entire team last season, .833, .350 OB/.480 slugging. Vs. LHP it was over 1.000 (.450/.630) and didn’t vary hardly at all home or away. With extra LH SP Rodon added to rotation alongside ground ball heavy Wood and bunch of LH relievers his D will be important as ever.
The nicknames don’t irritate me as much now as Krukow dropping the “g” at the end of words. He says pitchin’, hittin’, breakin’ ball, etc. Has he always done that and I didn’t notice? It seems, to me, like he does it more now than he used to.
The dude grew up in Southern California, and he talks like he’s from Missouri. Well, maybe his parents are from that part of the country, but it just sounds kind of fake to me, coming from him. Like he’s trying to go all country farm-dude on us.
The new LSU football headcoach got roasted in the media for trying to sound Southern at his first LSU football rally. He only half-heartedly later tried to deny he was doing that.
Politicians do it all the time. Northern presidential candidates go into the South and suddenly start drawing out those vowels, and dropping those consonants. It’s pretty sadly funny.
Very sad, terrible news about Taylor Hawkins. Horrible news for his family, and the band, and their huge amount of fans. The Foo Fighters weren’t a band that I have much knowledge of. Right when they were first exploding big, I was getting more into Americana roots type of music. But obviously they’re one of the most popular bands on the planet.
Like so many other bands, they were so looking forward to doing a lot touring again. That’s all up in the air now, obviously. Grohl will have some tough decisions to make. Some bands find a way to plough on forward, and some just end the band when losing a key member.
Found this one in local library, “The Giants and Their City” sub heading “Major League Baseball in San Francisco, 1976-1992.” Written by Lincoln Mitchell.
Chapter 3, after Bob Lurie barely managed to keep them here, was on 1978 his best team to date under mgr. Joe Altobelli and when Giants drew unprecedented 1.7 mil to the Stick.
Also, post season November of Jim Jones and Milk/Moscone shootings that led to all the years of Dianne Feinstein as mayor and end to progressive policies favored by Moscone.
What a crazy time that was.
Off and on, I’ve been reading his book called San Francisco Year Zero, political upheaval, punk rock and a third-place baseball team. Sounds like the same book but under a different title. Dan White, Jim Jones, DKs and Vida Blue. Winder is right, crazy times.
Well if Ramos doesn’t make the team it clears the way for both Estrada ( he was a lock anyway) and Dubon both were out of options. I’m wondering if LaStella starts the year on IR and the Giants give Beede his final chance out of the BP since he’s out of options and some team would surely claim him off waviers?
I have been rooting for Beede to make good seems like forever. After a certain time you just got to cut it loose.
Yeah with you Winder, the Giants have plenty of more talented arms then Beede who’s constantly injured are just getting raked when he does pitch.Cut your losses and move on, he’s had plenty of chances and now can’t even get out AAA hitters…
Miami looking strong against Kansas up 35-29 at half.Kansas is struggling with open looks haven’t even made a 3 going down, missed 6 free throws as well.Miami winning matchups right now.2nd half should be good, see what happens with adjustments going forward..
When hasn’t Longoria been hurt, coming off being hurt, or about to be hurt, since he’s been with SF?
I’d like to know what % of games this guy has missed since being traded over…
According to B/R:
2018 125 games 512 PAs
2019 129 games 508 PAs
2020 53 (out of 60)
2021 81 games 291 PAs
Jesus. Sad sad day for music fans. Taylor Hawkins, drummmer for Foo Fighters died.
Dude was a great drummer and fronted a cool band that played hard 70s music called Chevy Metal as well. Saw them at Bottle Ri k a couple years ago. Saw the Foos a couple times as well.
Dave Grohl must be devastated. I was watching a decent interview with both of them about their raising kids and how touring now was much different than back in the day.
Man that sucks. Kirt Cobain was a long time
Ago but I’m sure Grohl still feels that pain.
the Peafowl should’ve been more physical in this game. they also should’ve made the easy layups.
Fear the Cock magic run ends against a far more talented athletic team in North Carolina.Time to turn in your magic slippers, but your run thru the tournament will only help recruiting for sure.Hold your head’s high, you made Jersey City proud..
Porzingis is in Dray’s head.
The Warriors are getting unwatchable as every drive is a kickout turnover. 5 turnovers in 3 minutes.
Out of town visiting the boy in Chicago. Love that city! Giants? 88
We lost a lot of production. Good pitching will keep us a float.
3 1/3 shutout innings from Cobb yesterday, and SPs off to great start in ST.
Yeah all the SP have done great,l watched the start on late night MLB network, wanted to see Cobb throw.
I was impressed, he throws hard , spots pitches well, looks like another Z/H steal again at the bottom of the rotation as pitching will definitely carry this team again..
Side note: Dubon blasted a long 2 run homer to LF over a grass berm and into some trees as he got both butt cheeks into that one..
Just a guess but I don’t see how Dubon doesn’t make the team since he’s out of options and besides I think LaStella starts the year on IR and Longo&Belt always shaky, you need infield depth. However i believe GD still has one option left and will be digging some late night graves around Rivercats Stadium as the Giants start with 14 pitchers and 14 position players with GD the odd man out..

to Flavor
Flav: Yesterday’s victory reminded me of a 107 win team of recent memory. Several takeaways: Ramos’ double tells me that he will be on speed-dial at Sac-town. He’s that close, but needs plenty of playing time. It could be that one or maybe even two of the O.F.ers get traded. If so, Ramos would start in The Show. Recently read that at least one MLB team is in dire need of a C.F.er. Beebe also looks to be surplus, though who would want him at anywhere but AAA stuffing. Grave Duggar comes to mind as tantalizing trade-bait.
Crawdaddy and Ruf-Ruf looked a bit rusty, but they will come along over a few games. Catching looking better with both Bart and Bailey circus in the hit-parade. Bailey should be starting C. For either AAA or AA. He’s coming along quickly, what with him clocking a double. Yaz appears to be getting into gear with that triple, even though stranded. So we’re back to that old RISP bugaboo.
Setting the template for the offense was Mauricio with that runner on with his massive drive into the trees. I truly like his enthusiasm and his energy. Every successful team needs one of those. Tostado (even without guacamole) and Johnson providing a run with back to back doubles with Johnson may be indicative of a fully loaded pipeline past the top 30 prospects. No wonder Z. did not take the dive for Suzuki on a long-term contract for mucho dinero.
So the offense, including several regulars, came out to play baseball yesterday. Today’s lineup looks more like that of some of the earlier games with mostly scrubinis and prospects on the docket. Yesterday,’s array included six XBH’s, including an arithmetical succession of 3 doubles, 2 triples (unusual) and one Dinger. Oh, and that strapping Joc did manage to steal a base.
Pitching is the name of the game and it appears that our starters are little less than superb. Cobb coming through with 3.1 to get the wind, gives SF a studded rotation from 1-5. Then in June the I.L. should disgorge one of Zaidi’s potentially decent pickup starters, just in time to fill in for arms in some danger of tiring—or possible injury. Took note that they ran out Hjelle for a full two I.P., who did give up one run on one hit, a triple which was not L.O.B. by the Angelicals. Strikes me that the tall Norskie is being groomed as the long-man every team needs and also for possible trade-bait come June or so. This time the bullies were on their game, with Alvarez, Littell, Williams and Doval enjoying scoreless outings. Camilo gave up a noisy double betwixt striking out the side. Seems like he can get hard at this stage of his career—but not often
Rotation will be the team’s bread and better. If the bullies can approach last seasons, MLB-leading ERA’s, etc., my projection is that the team will be good for 92 wins, based on excellent pitching and a few timely hits here and there by the offense. Team is a probable for Post-Season. Even with offensive juggernauts, such as the Phillies, will need to squeeze through a partial handful of runs versus our formidable staff. Belt, Longo and LaStella may be injury prone throughout the year. That makes both Dubon and Estrada extremely valuable. I’m expecting a possible breakthrough from Thairo. He just possibly be one of the big surprises of the MLB season.
Stix: “Recently read that at least one MLB team is in dire need of a C.F.er.” I’d say 2, if you count the Giants, which I do. Yazz is better as corner OFer, and there’s no one else on the team that is a *starting CFer*, all due respect to Slater and GD. And of course Mac’s post there about Long Gone’s injury parade getting an early start shows that G’s might need a real 3rd bagger as well.
May 5th will be 50 years since Mays’ last basket catch in a Giant uniform.
Just in case you weren’t feeling old…
BTW, it was in Philadelphia.
Maybe you saw it, Paul…
I don’t recall. (Story of my life.) How do you even know about his last basket catch? Amazing.
Checked the box score and saw 2 putouts.
Figured it was a safe assumption..
Longo in mid-season DL form. Christ. Bring up Ramos.
I’d like to land 2018 wonder boy, Miguel Andujar (3B-OF) from the Yankees.
Straight up for the Grave Duggar?
Sure.
Wtf the old guys can’t even get thru practices now without getting banged up?And when did this finger act up? During the strike even? When he could of had it fixed then?
The usual combination of Longo&Belt hit the Mash unit!
Real smart now passing on all the RH bats that could of made a difference!
If anyone’s dreaming about Matt Duffy, forget it.
Signed a one year deal with the Angels a couple weeks ago…
If anyone’s dreaming about Duffy, they need to enter dream therapy.
LaMonte limped off the field today and left the stadium with assistance, I hear.
And the hits just keep on coming..
Estrada/Vosler combo at 3rd?
Return of my boy Jaylin Davis??
How about this guy?
Fats Waller at 3rd. I like it.
