How much NCAA tourney have you guys watched? I have seen exactly zero seconds of it. Is it good?

Trivia time. Besides being a pretty bizarre transaction line….who was this?

Today’s retro post of the day. 7 years ago….

Once I got eliminated in all my pools (had AZ winning in most) completely lost interest. Did not watch last night but had a concert. Duke UNC I hate both but looked like a good game.

Zumie’s “Wayback Machine” post of 2015, is something I would embrace by the clown in the Commissioner’s office today. DH going universal, 7 inning double header games, and bringing out a tiger or lion at least once a game for each team would encourage kids to attend. One eaten player counts as a run . . . Only maimed – a double (and of course a pinch runner for him).

How was the winter at The Overlook?

      • blade3colorado said, on April 3, 2022 at 7:48 am

Hahaha . . . You mean the one in California or Colorado? If California, plenty of rain (almost 4-5 times as much as last year), but not much snow. If you think the drought was bad last year, this will eclipse it. In fact, former colleagues at the Bureau of Reclamation are saying that the Feds are “just getting started” in regard to water restrictions, especially to agriculture. I think California just took measurements in the Tahoe basin and they measured a half inch . . . This time of year, it should be at least 5-6 feet.

Tourney has been excellent. Lot of upsets yet Kansas going for it all. NC (8 seed vs. 1/2s in Final Four) was a bubble team not sure of making it at times last month. And yes Duke NC game was very good game that could have gone either way.

Jay Bilas had good column on ESPN about how to improve game. First, go 4 x 10 minute quarters with foul shots at 5th team foul, and like womens game eliminate 1 and 1 and make it automatic 2 shots per.
Second, allow more freedom of movement by calling game tighter and change block/charge call to when offensive player gathers to go up and shoot instead of when he leaves feet. D has to be set sooner on charge.
Third, get tougher on coaches and do not allow them to bully officials. Others have suggested as he has to eliminate flop call altogether and streamline review process that disrupts flow and lengthens games..

Ah thanks Flav that was fun thread and Loo was right about SF overpaying for Peavy.

Re: Sabes/Evans, is Evans the one to be credited for drafting Giants top prospects (Ramos Bart and Luciano Matos Pomares group) and Logan Webb/Slater/GD? Doval was signed as FA in 2015 as well.

Oh shoot. A’s traded Manaea to Padres

    • willedav said, on April 3, 2022 at 8:54 am

lot of speculation might be part of other move by Padres. Manaea only has 1 year of control (at almost $10 mil) and up/down career so far

    • Winder said, on April 3, 2022 at 9:16 am

The A’s have a direct pipeline to SD. It’s also payback for the Giants districting in the SJ area. The A’s are still pissed about that.

      • Winder said, on April 3, 2022 at 9:44 am

They have had that pipeline for years I think it really took off with Alderson going over to the Pads but it was going on before that too.

  7. Winder said, on April 3, 2022 at 8:53 am

I love that Gore is retiring a Niner. He is one of the toughest football players ever and a total class act. I bet a first time HOFer also.

  8. xoot said, on April 3, 2022 at 10:11 am

a’s don’t have many fans left, I suppose, but many of them believe that the Giants are behind the opposition to a new ballpark in Oakland. Most recent piece of evidence: last week a coalition of groups filed notice in court that they intend to sue the city and the a’s over deficiencies in the Environmental Impact Report for the waterfront project, and the lead law firm in the suit is the same one that generally has represented the Giants since Magowan et al bought the team. Manea to SD will add a bit of subtle subtext to the cutthroat-rivals conspiracy theory.

    • xoot said, on April 3, 2022 at 10:24 am

oh, Manea is penciled in to start today for SD vs. OAK at the a’s ST park, and the game will be televised here in the Bay Area.

  9. Flavor said, on April 3, 2022 at 11:35 am

Manaea sucks, not worried about him going to SD

  10. mrsprtdude said, on April 3, 2022 at 12:16 pm

My brother is a die hard sports fan, like me. With our dad we rooted hard for our teams. Luckily for me dad was a Giants fan! Sadly my brother lifelong / diehard A’s fan. He would be on an A’s blog if there was one. He recently unfollowed the A’s on espn, bleacher report and My Teams. A sad moment for both of us.

    • Winder said, on April 3, 2022 at 12:25 pm

I never hated the A’s except for ’89’ and I always had fun during the Billyball years. Some years I made it to more of their games than I did Giants games. Bart made that real easy.

  11. zumiee said, on April 3, 2022 at 12:17 pm

Bart could be a key x-factor for the season, if he can have some regular season success like what he’s having in Spring Training.

  12. zumiee said, on April 3, 2022 at 12:20 pm

Even though only a Spring Training game, it was fun watching the Giants trounce the Dodgers yesterday.
    Kimbrel looked rusty as heck.

  13. zumiee said, on April 3, 2022 at 12:23 pm

I’m blanking out momentarily on the name of the heavyweight Giants reliever that is a Dodger now. That dude looked enormous in that Dodger uniform.

    • alleykat69 said, on April 3, 2022 at 12:41 pm

Zumie,, That was Reyes Moronta! I couldn’t believe how fat he was , he makes Pablo look like Dubon.
“His rehabilitation program only worked on his jaw muscles, shoveling food down his throat “

  14. alleykat69 said, on April 3, 2022 at 12:34 pm

Yeah a buddy of mine at a watering hole we hang out is a DIE HARD A’s fan. But he recently came into the bar wearing an A’s Jersey with “Traded” on the back.I started to chuckle and he said: it’s inevitable every season so I’m just rolling with the punches now. I was going to put every player’s name on it with their name crossed out but I would run out of space..

  15. alleykat69 said, on April 3, 2022 at 1:17 pm

Duke players were a bunch of punk lowlifes not shaking North Carolina’s players hands and heading straight to the clubhouse after they lost.Their was one player that showed class,Wendell Moore, and Coach K and a few assistants.Just a bad look in his last game coaching not to have his whole team behind him..

  16. willedav said, on April 3, 2022 at 1:41 pm

I could see Manaea doing well for SD. For one, he has to be ecstatic to get away from A’s amid another selloff and chance to play before more than few thou every home game. .FO had to have checked in with Melvin on him beforehand, so reunion should be seamless transition.
Looking at splits from last season he made 5-6 starts each month all season, and in 3 of those he had ERA of 3.30 or better, along with 2 bad months he got hit harder. Pitched better on road than at home too. Still Ks a lot of guys, and Pads D on IF should be solid. Like lot of team, if Pads SPs are healthy could be solid rotation.

I’d like a guess about today’s trivia question please

    • djloo27 said, on April 3, 2022 at 3:39 pm

      Could really use a hint…

      • Flavor said, on April 3, 2022 at 3:58 pm

Transaction date is a good hint

      • Flavor said, on April 3, 2022 at 3:59 pm

I mean, howany dudes in 2019 did we trade for cash

  18. unca_chuck said, on April 3, 2022 at 4:19 pm

Panik? We dumped him somewhere in that time frame. Thought it was the BJs tho.

    • Flavor said, on April 3, 2022 at 4:20 pm

No but I appreciate the guess! Feel free to cheat at this point. I really want someone to get this. He’s a pitcher

    The Doughy Fuck?

  20. alleykat69 said, on April 3, 2022 at 4:46 pm

    Derek Holland??

    • willedav said, on April 3, 2022 at 4:48 pm

yeah was that the older guy that beatched about something and mostly got raked?

      • alleykat69 said, on April 3, 2022 at 5:30 pm

Yes he was starting but was getting raked so the Giants moved him to the BP which he didn’t like, then made a disparaging remark about Asians that he had to apologize for.Giants according to him faked a finger injury, put him on the DL while they figured out how to get rid of him..

  21. willedav said, on April 3, 2022 at 4:46 pm

Thought it might have been Stratton or Blach, but no. Right year, but no on date.

  22. mrsprtdude said, on April 3, 2022 at 4:51 pm

    No guess Craig. A mystery

  23. willedav said, on April 3, 2022 at 5:03 pm

    Dyson?

  24. unca_chuck said, on April 3, 2022 at 6:42 pm

    Think it was Holland?

  25. willedav said, on April 3, 2022 at 6:55 pm

Bjelica tearing up his old team. 10 points in second quarter as GS up 20 on Kings.

    • willedav said, on April 3, 2022 at 6:57 pm

      Plus 6 boards and 2 assists,lol

  26. xoot said, on April 3, 2022 at 6:57 pm

was 19 the year of action jackson? I watched BP from CF one day in 19 and saw Dyson chase everything even theoretically within his range and then rage if he missed it or exult if he tracked it down. Drugs? I don’t know. Over the top, definitely. Meanwhile, Shawon Dunston shagged as if he was ready to play that day. A guy near us shouted “Mr. Jackson! Over here!” My son laughed and corrected the guy. Dunston shook his head and lobbed the ball to us. My son gave it to the fuck up. Meanwhile, Holland jogged around out there like an overweight LL dad. Man, I used to go to about one game every month. Long time ago.

    • xoot said, on April 3, 2022 at 7:04 pm

no. I’m wrong. My memory’s from 2018 and the Giants traded Jackson then.

  27. willedav said, on April 3, 2022 at 7:36 pm

Trade was from July 2019. Just a month after epic Flap meet up at the O. chance to meet Zum and Unc Chuck, he of epic ump razzes, plus re meet with Snarkk SanDog and Flav. Pre game $100+ bar bill, ball tossed our way by Yaz btw innings that turned into Marvin Benard adventure, Dickerson blasting one right over our heads, Giants W and though I didn’t participate post game wrap up at nearby watering hole as well. doesn’t get any better than that!

If you haven’t seen Once Upon A Time In Hollywood 700 times, you’re wasting your life…

  29. djloo27 said, on April 4, 2022 at 5:50 am

I don’t think opening day is a sellout yet.
    That would be surprising…

  30. willedav said, on April 4, 2022 at 6:57 am

Talk about a whack schedule. Giants open with Miami then host Padres for 3. No other NL West teams til 2 with Dogs early in May, then week later take on Rox and Pads. They don’t play AZ until July. wtf?

  31. unca_chuck said, on April 4, 2022 at 7:07 am

    There’s your balanced schedule.

    • willedav said, on April 4, 2022 at 8:01 am

After those 3 here with Pads, next opponents are Cleveland (?) Mets Nats Brewers (1 game only) followed by home games with A’s and Nats again end of the month. Unreal.

      • willedav said, on April 4, 2022 at 8:03 am

Only 2 off days also, after Pads game Wed 11th and then 11 in row on road plus 2 game home set vs. A’s without day off til Thursday 28th.
