fwiw, Fangraphs put rankings of best SP staffs (Positional WAR) as a team, and Marlins come in right behind Dogs and Braves at 13th overall (Giants 6th). Top 3 very solid, led by Alcantara their Opening Day guy tomorrow.

Opening day has always been a big deal to me, this year I didn’t think it would be, but I was wrong. I’m getting fired up, FIRED UP. Went to the store today to stock up on some polish dogs and brats, the MLB app is loaded on my tv, I’m ready to roll.

Steve, re: your 12:59 about the HR/K trend in the game now, even CNN has an Opening Day story about the decline of baseball (killjoy CNN!)….. Nothing overly insightful but seems to largely blame the game’s overall boringness and decline on the trend of HR or K and nothing else in between. Honestly wouldn’t be surprised someday to see some offshoot of the game involving only a pitcher and a batter, no need for fielders, kind of like that scene in The Natural, a traveling carnival kind of thing. Bum threw 40 pitches in the 3rd inning vs. Padres, walking 4 guys. Trails 1-0 though Pads have only 1 hit. Also thrown 68 pitches so far, yikes.
This should be an interesting year, DH in the NL, no more man on 2nd for extra innings, starting pitchers going 4 innings for the win(slight sarcasm there) and of course injuries, sounds like baseball. GO GIANTS. not quite 107 wins but they should make the playoffs, maybe 95 wins
