It’s 49 Degrees Outside
Woke up, went outside and all of a sudden it’s December again. Freezing cold, wind, where’d the sun go?
Glad to have the Marlins gone, they just don’t do it for me. Boring.
Hopefully facing the Padres will juice this season up a little….
Yeah Krukow should be fired up–definitely pitcher’s weather tonight at the O. Pads took 3 of 4 @. DBax but not good hitting team to start with.
Great to see Ramos yesterday but…Kapler imo will continue to go full on platoon with OF and since Pads only starting RHP til Wed., doubt he gets ABs til then except as PH. Kap hitting for Yaz yesterday with Slater late game tells me none of OFs safe from L/R match up ball, so I doubt he changes plan with rook.
It will definitely keep the players from getting complacent and also bring the team closer imo. Like last year we had multiple hero’s daily and I guess that’s the way the league is going. It seems to work for us anyway.
You look at the Dodgers and they seem to have gotten rid of their utility guys in favor of a set line up. No Kiki, no Pollack, Taylor and Lux are now starting and they are carrying 16 (16!) pitchers.
I think a lot of that might be because of the salaries that some of those players are getting. A month or two in and they will probably start having injuries. Sad to say but that is what I hope anyway.
From what I have read so far is that the Dogs farm system is even better than ours. So they are probably not to worried about replacements. I can’t get myself to go into their team reports but that is my guess.
Nice story on Ramos on mlb.com site from Maria Guardado, complete with pic of game shoes he wore (orange with leopard print) Ramos was so proud of. Baggs talks about them too–Crawford gave them originally to Pederson who regifted them Ramos way. According to Baggs, Crawford is the Imelda Marcos of Giants players, and his shoe collection has its own locker.

Series win. Miami always plays the Giants tough—dating back to the fiasco in 93. Saved by the Bullies yesterday. Beginning with Jarlin’s one-pitch masterpiece to pull Disco outta the hot-water he seemed to lavish; those relievers went 5.1 innings without a run scoring, thus also rescuing the still mostly punchless offense (lacking 3 starters) and nailing it down with, surprise, Leone atoning perfectly for his mess-up in his first exposure. Doval, too, made up for prior offenses where he had thrown only sliders and showed the batters a bit of heat. Whether it was the red-bearded one or a succession of role-players; the relievers gave me some major relief in earlier apprehensions as to whether they would (1. Cohere and (2. Be properly employed by Kapler &. Co. No sweat. So after this first series the pen looks to be a major bulwark for the team.
Offense is still sputtering. Some well-hit balls got snagged by the likes of Jazz Chisholm. Ramos made his statement/s. He’s looking solid and should be a somewhat better than average MLB regular for years to come. He didn’t swing for the fences, a common newbie offense, but went with the ball and racked up a pair of singles for his intro to The Show. Overshadowed, though, by Willie Mac back in the summer of ’59 with his two triples against the Phillies…got that in a sneak-peek at the Sporting News in a now long-gone drugstore on Nicollet and Lake, just a block from the old Millers stadium where #24 was hitting well over .400 in AAA before getting his call to The Show by Leo the Lip in the summer of ’51 and never looked back.
New to the Giants, Luke Williams also contributed to the offense. Even Mauricio made up a bit for his traditional base running gaffes, by driving in an all-important run in yesterday’s squeaker. Appears there will be a lot of mix n’ match by Kapler and crew, at least until some of those wounded warriors begin drifting back.
Wood was pretty messy in his last S.T. appearance. Hope he’s on it tonight…and Cobb to follow. Then it’s the Spider-Man, spinning away and bound, set and determined to get his first well-earned “W”.
That 13 game road-trip will be grueling—particularly versus those now thoroughly amped up Mets—and that weird one-game “series” against the Brew-Crew. So Los Gigantes need to win no less than two of three vs the Pads. Go Giants!
I know it’s way early but this coming series is an important one. We totally embarrassed SD last year and you can bet your bippy they are gonna come out swinging. It should be a real fun hard fought series.
Last year’s Giants schedule in April and May were favorable to the Giants, and helped them get off to a good start, and they just kept that momentum going.
I only gave the 2022 April schedule a quick glance, but it looks tougher than last year’s. So it will be important for the Giants to hang in there, and get through that relatively OK.
Long road trip coming up starting Friday @Cleveland, but Giants end month with 9 game stretch where 1 game is vs. Milwaukee and the other 8 are vs. Washington (6) and A’s (2), couple bottom feeders
Bryan Buxton is on fire 🔥 3 Homers already the last one in the 3rd deck 6 rows back!
Hope he continues smashing along with Correa with a Twins team that’s going to hit plenty. They have the Bums next so I’m hoping for an ass whipping..
One of the big surprises of last season was the collapse of the Padres in the second half of the season. They were having a lot of fun in the first half of the season, with the big gold-colored chain when someone hit an HR, and then things went sideways in the second half of the season.
I was watching some of the Blue Jays game yesterday, and they have a coat they put on someone when he hits an HR, and it makes you wonder if over-celebrating is really something you’d want your team to be doing. The Blue Jays didn’t make the playoffs last season.
It may have been the Red Sox last season that rolled a guy in a cart down the length of the dugout after he hit an HR.
I’m glad the Giants haven’t been a team that does that stuff over the years. The Giants have tended to be more old-school about stuff like that, and that’s fine.
Baseball is dumb that way. Like guys blowing their knees out at home plate in stupid celebrations. If some team is doing something stupid, the next teams has to top them.
The Toronto HR jacket though is kinda cool. It has list on the back of all the different countries represented in Blue Jays clubhouse and there are quite a lot of them
Yeah, the Captain’s hat and his inflatable Zodiac or whatever that was, now that was dignified.
Nasty winds this evening.
Bart hitting 7th, ahead of GD and 3b Dubon. Ruf at DH.
I always liked it when the A’s used to fling stuff in the stands.
Nice going jocass
doobie dumps a dp
Dubey gets the run in.
dinks a run
As GD flops…
Is it too soon to change my Krukow jersey to Estrada?
Krukow’s weather expertise has vanished. He said earlier that the wind isn’t a factor tonight, just as it ceased to be a factor at Candlestick at 6:30 pm. Uh, no, on both counts. The swirling arrow graphic he loves so much proved one assertion wrong. If he’s gonna phone it in he needs to upgrade his phone.
Wouldn’t be a Giant-Padre game without a Myers bomb…
Wow, what a catch by Yaz!
Helluva nice catch by Yaz, but I’d say K &K are going a little too crazy over it…
Yah, add a bullpen mound to that catch.
Lotsa wasted baserunners
Hoo weeeeee!
Got heeem in
Gift wrapped. Thank you very much.
Got to love the between the AB ads
Duggar is hopeless…
The olé offense
Why didn’t Rogers submarine his throw to first?
He would’ve got rid of it faster…
And the dribbler attack. Fuck
Speaking of ads, that Metallica ad for whiskey surprised me. Hetfield is a recovering alcoholic. Alcohol almost destroyed his life and the band.
Alcohollica was their nickname…
Yaz flashing the leather
Gift fuckup by Me Rogers
Mr
Easy out at home by Mr.Rodgers sometimes I think these pitchers have no brains late in the games when outs prevented are a must!
Kuip has no depth perception
One of these times Kuiper’s going to get it right.
I first liked Kuip’s call on the allitle high breaking ball which was an obvious fastball the catcher had to reach up for, and then of course his ejaculation over Ruf’s drive.I don’t know what it is but baseballs don’t seem to be jumping out of the park so far, change the balls this year?
yikes. Hope by Joc tober this guy is playing somewhere else.
Pretty sparse looking crowd tonight but it’s prolly. 40 degrees now.
Shea said 23 thou
When a broadcaster can’t tell the difference between a curve and a slider he just calls it a breaking ball.
Nothing wrong with that…
I get that, but when a broadcaster can’t tell a fastball from any off speed pitch is pretty sad..
the ballpark scoreboard instantly publishes the type of pitch along with the mph now. fucking angles and spin rates will be next
Here’s where I miss Donnie Barrels.
Last chance for GD.
Come through or get lost…
Or somewhere in between…
He lives to flight
One more day
Can’t do this shit on my phone
Grave Duggar escapes the Golden Sombero!
Dubon will be lucky to have Adrianza’s career…
doobie does diddly
Fucking Longo and LaStella
Could see this mess coming.
Joc Pederson is a butcher with a glove.
Alvarez looked like a mess from the jump. Already not liking the bullpen use. Why a lefty vs 2 righties? Thought Joc could have caught that one:(
Just want Wade back so Pederson can DH only!!!
this is a tough game — too many pitchers, too little offense. a lot depends on CobbWebb now
So I assume the Rodger twins are allowed to play a twin billing?
Ramos gotta be in on deck circle
Big league sliders. Ruf couldn’t hit em either.
Blah.
Dreary…
Not going to win many games with 10 hits that only produce 2 runs…
Nauseous
dazzling sequence of three pitches Rogers threw to Ramos — although the idiot umpire whose zone-edge calls had varied all night long set it up by actually calling the first corner FB correctly.
Little things. Rogers goes home to get lead runner and maybe things end differently
Yeah Sportsdude,
From little league on late in a game you always want to get the out at home, especially in a tie game.
Bad play by Rodgers, worse that he got nobody out.
If you’re going to try to make it as a pure “guess” hitter, you better have a quick bat
and some ability to make a quick adjustment.
Posey did and could.
GD dont and can’t…
Never seen a player more consistently overmatched then GD..
