A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Back To No Offense

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on April 12, 2022

Ironically, it seems that the grave he’s been digging for 2 years has actually been his own. It pains me to say this but it’s time for him to go. Yaz, too. Neither can hit a lick. I guess not having Posey, Bryant or Wade turns out to not be great for the offense, eh?

With only one of those dudes coming back I fear we are going to see a lot of games like last night’s.

Still blame Longo and LaStella for being perennially hurt.

  2. unca_chuck said, on April 12, 2022 at 7:48 am

    Just fucking play Ramos.

  3. unca_chuck said, on April 12, 2022 at 7:51 am

Gentry gone as Kings coach. The Kings are spinning the coaching wheel faster than anyone. Lakers canned Vogel as well. GM Bronny skates.

  4. willedav said, on April 12, 2022 at 8:12 am

LaStella and Longoria will be back soon enough: they both missed considerable time last year and didn’t hurt team at all. Plus those injuries created room for Estrada to play every day. Injury to Wade Jr is much more important given how lame LH OFs have been, including Pederson who sucks. Kap is still gonna roll with these guys though and Ramos will be stuck on bench vs. RHP.

Give as much credit as you want for coaching staff but there are guys that can’t be fixed. Giants have scored 12 runs in 4 games and allowed Pierce Johnson to escape unscathed while their pen guys imploded.

    • unca_chuck said, on April 12, 2022 at 9:08 am

That was last year. Solano is gone. Dubon being out there all the time has been a bit of a cluster. Fucking Pederson will hopefully be gone in a couple weeks. Not getting any kind of good feeling about him. But that depends on Wade and Ramos.

Yeah, it’s about teh hitting. LaStella and Longo are supposed to be the guys to count on. Even more so this season. I don’t mind Estrada as the super sub. Dubon is still a mess. Williams can easily play his role.

  5. willedav said, on April 12, 2022 at 8:33 am

Pederson Yaz GD are 4-28 with 13 Ks (2 doubles 0 HRs), Slater 1-9. Flores 1-10 Dubon 1-8. Giants hitting .213 as a team with 3 bombs, from Bart Belt Estrada.

    • willedav said, on April 12, 2022 at 8:36 am

Team OB is .292. To hear Kap say “Approach is fine” is nonsense. Sometimes he makes as much sense as Bochy pressers.

  6. Winder said, on April 12, 2022 at 8:50 am

I imagine we will hold steady with what we have for another few weeks. We started out slow last year also, but it really doesn’t look to promising for some. Our philosophy of patience at the plate seems to have gone out the window. So far it looks like pitching is ahead of the game. The problem I see is that we don’t have that many alternatives at the moment. The team has to stay bought-in or else it will be a very long year.

  7. Flavor said, on April 12, 2022 at 9:17 am

Yaz OPS dropped 200 points last year. And so far in just 3 games he’s 500 points off last year. So glad we didn’t pay this guy a boatload of $$$ especially when he was under so much team control.

  8. unca_chuck said, on April 12, 2022 at 9:19 am

Bart looks great. The OF looks like dried shit. Losing Wade is killing us. Just play Ramos.

Yaz is continuing his downward spiral to hologram territory.

The IF is once again playing backups with LaStella and Longo out. Estrada and Williams can take over for Dubon as the subs.

Wilmet is on some kind of mental health break now. Not sure how long he’s gonna be out.

  9. blade3colorado said, on April 12, 2022 at 9:33 am

“LaStella and Longoria will be back soon enough: they both missed considerable time last year and didn’t hurt team at all.”

Huh? Willie, these are STARTERS. Consequently, it follows that THEY DID hurt the team last year, i.e., as starters, they would have performed better than the platoon players plugged in due to their absence.

Am I missing something? Please explain your logic.

    • willedav said, on April 12, 2022 at 10:19 am

Longo only played 81 games. He hit well especially vs. LHP but I mean SF won 107, so how much was he missed? His absence didn’t drag the team down. LaStella didn’t hit well at all last season. Solano and Flores, plus Estrada, covered for these guys, at least at bat though neither of first two are good fielders. I think almost everyone would take Estrada over LaStella as a regular every day guy.

      • blade3colorado said, on April 12, 2022 at 11:05 am

You’re missing my point. You indicated these starters “. . . didn’t hurt team at all.” Who’s to say that they could have won more games versus the 107 they won? Also, what about the playoffs? Both played, but only LaStella did well. These guys get paid starter salaries to not only play, but to play well. Not to mention, not be MIA via injury, etc.

It also makes Kapler’s job easier, where he doesn’t have to do as much mixing and matching (and don’t get me wrong, he was absolutely outstanding doing this). If these two starters didn’t hurt team at all, they should just play the 3 guys you mentioned 24/7, right? By the by, I dislike Longoria and LaStella, as they have been big disappointments overall during their stints with the Gmen, especially Longoria.

    • unca_chuck said, on April 12, 2022 at 11:05 am

Yeah, to say Longo and LaStella are not important misses the point. Sure, we were able to get away with it last year but that was because we had Solano and Estrada playing well, and Wilmet filled in as well. And it kept Doobie Dubon off the field. Solano is gone. La Stella is out. Wilmet is out or at 3rd. Doobie is in.

You can’t say this doesn’t affect the team’s hitting, Wilie.

      • blade3colorado said, on April 12, 2022 at 11:06 am

        Thank you Chuck.

      • unca_chuck said, on April 12, 2022 at 11:24 am

        Lol. Didn’t see yours . . .

      • willedav said, on April 12, 2022 at 12:26 pm

Having them both (key word) out at same time does, yes Chuck. Both of you admit Kap still has Estrada and Flores to back them up just like last year, no? And both of them are better hitters (more power) than LaStella or Solano, right? Z added Williams so he should have both 2b and 3b reasonably well covered, except for Dubon.

  10. Flavor said, on April 12, 2022 at 10:20 am

Loo, how close to that Brooklyn subway shooting are you?

  11. willedav said, on April 12, 2022 at 10:26 am

Think Flavor makes good point about Yaz. Looking at 2021 splits he only had one really bad month but second half overall was significant drop off. Plus he hit better on road with more power–slugging was 100 points higher (.502 vs. 409) and he hit twice as many HRs (17-8). He’s become platoon guy, not fit to face LHP.
Weird thing is, he was kind of harbinger 2021–when SF won he had OPS of .862, when they lost .565.
Again, seems like coaching staff could not help him get rolling, and now he’s off to bad start again so you gotta wonder how fixable his problems are.

  12. Bozo said, on April 12, 2022 at 11:37 am

Willie, did you coin the Jocass moniker? I think I’ll be using that one.

    • willedav said, on April 12, 2022 at 12:36 pm

yeah that first AB bugged me. 2 ducks on pond 2b and 3b, he takes 2 called strikes and then Ks. Krukow kept making excuses for him–he’s looking middle in…F that. Drive somebody in!

      • Bozo said, on April 12, 2022 at 1:20 pm

Works for me, Jocass it is.

  13. Bozo said, on April 12, 2022 at 11:40 am

I gotta get this straight, so we want Longo long gone, but when he’s not here we miss him?

Kinda like that Dan Hicks tune, How Can I Miss You If You Won’t Go Away.

    • Bozo said, on April 12, 2022 at 11:44 am

Actually, nothing like that tune but who can resist a Dan Hick reference?

        lqtm

        I’m somewhere in the crowd.

      • Bozo said, on April 12, 2022 at 1:08 pm

In the crowd? Quite the crowd on that stage. A lot of great SF players joined in for that one. That must have been a hell of a show.
Great, great song by the way.

      • unca_chuck said, on April 12, 2022 at 1:33 pm

Yeah it was a great show. Seen them a few times. Usually about a 10 year gap between shows!

      • unca_chuck said, on April 12, 2022 at 1:44 pm

It’s kinda weird that shows I went to 45 years ago are popping up on the internet.

    • willedav said, on April 12, 2022 at 12:37 pm

      LaStella too.

Giants place Tyler Rodgers on paternity recall RH reliever Yunior Marte from Sacramento..

  15. snarkk said, on April 12, 2022 at 3:23 pm

Yaz is still swinging at eye level waste pitches.
If he worked on that during the off season, he didn’t work hard enough…

  16. alleykat69 said, on April 12, 2022 at 3:59 pm

2 useless roster spots right now are GraveDuggar&Beede!!
GD is way overmatched his whole careers been like that, and that goes with Beede who stuff is ridiculously hittable, are the Giants really expecting the light bulb to come on? He’s only going to pitch if the team is getting blown out, so why carry him are Duggar just cause they’re out of options?Let them in up with the A’s,Pirates, are Orioles where all bottomfeeders end up..

    • snarkk said, on April 12, 2022 at 5:16 pm

Beede likely will get DFA’d by end of the month.
Waiting for his light bulb to go off is like waiting for Godot…

  18. zumiee said, on April 12, 2022 at 6:03 pm

Looks like Connor Joe has found a good fit being in Colorado. I would think the Rockies could have a lot of fun this season. The baseball world has zero expectations for them. They can just play footloose and fancy-free, and crush the ball in that ballpark.

  19. Flavor said, on April 12, 2022 at 6:34 pm

3 dudes hitting exactly .100 making your starting 9 has got to be a record.

    • willedav said, on April 12, 2022 at 7:31 pm

No bloops or dribblers either. GD stung his sac fly too.

  24. willedav said, on April 12, 2022 at 7:39 pm

Before he got the GIDP there from Crawford, Darvish had thrown 51 pitches and got 3 outs.

10-1 with 10 hits after 2 innings? Yeah the 100 boys and everyone else is getting stats to go up..

    • paul sorensen said, on April 12, 2022 at 8:06 pm

Especially after 10 hits and only 2 runs yesterday. They figured something out!

  30. willedav said, on April 12, 2022 at 8:07 pm

Just hope Baer doesn’t go apeshit with these unis and batting helmet.

    • Bozo said, on April 12, 2022 at 8:09 pm

I keep thinking they look like unis for Cricket players.

      • xoot said, on April 12, 2022 at 9:41 pm

not the ones I see practicing their, what is it, batting? in empty Sunday parking lots in Silicon Valley.

  31. alleykat69 said, on April 12, 2022 at 8:15 pm

They don’t do it for me, but I think they have done pretty good in them? The helmets are bush league with white squibbily lines leading to a traffic accident..

  32. unca_chuck said, on April 12, 2022 at 8:20 pm

Getting this on MLB network for some reason. Blocked on TBS.

WTAF with these Susie Creamcheese helmets? The hoodies are worse. They look like a hazmat crew in the dugout.

But boy howdy, they score a 10 spot with them, fuck it. I’m in.

    • paul sorensen said, on April 12, 2022 at 8:28 pm

Creamsicles. They look like creamsickles. I always hated creamsickles, weird flavor, I get queasy just thinking about ’em….

  33. alleykat69 said, on April 12, 2022 at 8:44 pm

Except for Disco’s warped album debut, the starting staff has been like ST impressive.
    Webb 7 k’s, Rodon 12k’s in 5 ,Wood 6k’s and now Corn on the Cobb 10 k’s in 5..

    • djloo27 said, on April 12, 2022 at 10:16 pm

    Dubon’s baseball IQ seems hopeless.

  35. willedav said, on April 12, 2022 at 9:20 pm

Dubon really is clueless. Just go up there and take your hacks. He should be grateful for any he gets.

  36. unca_chuck said, on April 12, 2022 at 9:29 pm

At least Mr. Kotter looks like he gave Dubon an earful. What a clueless move.

  37. xoot said, on April 12, 2022 at 9:36 pm

Dubon is a feckless asshole. You know Alyssa was telling him in three different languages do not try to steal, pendejo.

The unis do look like creamsicles and that’s appalling. I said it last year I’ll say it again use the deep, burnt International Orange color of the fucking bridge itself!

As a kid, however, I did sometimes enjoy a creamsicle of a summer day. Not my preference, but the OJ vanilla icecream combo was ok.

My weapon of choice on the subway is a concealed glove mallet,
which I successfully smuggled into MSG last week.
The key is to strike first. Not much good against a gun.
Can easily fracture some homeless psycho’s skull with it.
That’s what living here has come down to…

      • xoot said, on April 12, 2022 at 10:15 pm

that’s a fine mallet. a former AAA player convinced me to roll my front tire over my kids’ gloves with two baseballs in them, wrapped in towels. worked really well, although another former AAA player untied all the laces of one new glove, worked it around, and retied it, and it was perfect.

The lyrics. where do they appear? I sort of like em. Come on, don’t be coy.

Sad to hear about Gilbert Gottfried. I didn’t follow him to closely, but I remember him in Beverly Cop 2, when Murtagh and Riggs were giving him some phony shit about his wife and unpaid parking tickets. He goes that Bitch, and then pulls out his wallet and says you know if I open this up and suddenly money is in my hands then it’s not, I’m mean I just don’t know where it went? Will this take care of the Bitches tickets? I loved his nasal voice it was one of a kind! RIP Gilbert..A real good comedian u had to laugh with he was that funny..
