A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Baseball Overload

Weather looks much better today. Any Flappers hitting either of these games? Second game is Webb v Sherzer, wow.

Dubs got it done. “Four and a Poole” is gonna be quite the gimmicky conundrum for teams this year.

It is going to be a real cold double header….

This was what I got when I got home last night…bloody April 18!!!

Well that did not work…we had snow!!!

Besides me and maybe Mac there’s really no one back here in striking distance.
Younger me would never have missed being there.
    And not that much younger.
Last couple years not so great.
A fuckin’ Giant DH? Are you kidding?
Shit weather and the brutally long subway ride meant nothing.
    Today…. highly doubtful
    Maybe Thursday…

DH does give Kap a chance to rotate guys in/out of there including Belt while someone else plays 1b, and means more of Flores and Ruf at plate. Both are good hitters/shaky fielders.
Mets off to great start, at or near tops in NL for pitching and run scoring. Rox knocked off Phils last night and LA took care of Braves. Phils and Braves both couple games under .500 while Mets are 7-3.

Great report (and balanced showing good and bad so far) in Athletic on Giants minor teams and players. One thing stood out–Ramos is 6-28 since he went back down. Hope he realizes he didn’t do anything wrong while up with big club. Staying steady and by not trying to do too much in Sac is how he’ll get back. Likely Giants use most or all of 5 options to come up/down they still have on him so he has to adjust to this and get used to it.

One of more famous games in SF history was double header vs. Mets with second game going 23 innings. Remember trying to keep score of that one as a kid. Mays played some SS iirc.
The game Mays body slammed Elio Chacon at 2b was also vs. Mets, no?

      That is awesome, Winder!

wow thanks that was great, radio broadcast and pics.

I agree, that was awesome. Thanks Winder.

    That was great Winder!
When baseball ⚾️ was played with real passion and dedication!

    • Winder said, on April 19, 2022 at 10:53 am

I think that’s the first time I heard that since I was 10 years old.

As HS kid, Sunday doubleheaders at Stick were cool. Me and buddies were able to catch bus up to the game from South Bay and home. Bus went right up close to stadium and you avoided having to climb “cardiac hill”. Half hour break btw games and then teams were right back out there.

Mr. Ed will get the usual warm welcome from the 1,500 or so people that’ll probably be there in the top of the first…

      • Bozo said, on April 19, 2022 at 12:18 pm

There were even some signs in the crowd.

  10. willedav said, on April 19, 2022 at 12:26 pm

Run should be charged to Bart.

  11. djloo27 said, on April 19, 2022 at 12:34 pm

Keith loving the old school hit and run with Vosler…

    • willedav said, on April 19, 2022 at 12:41 pm

Which was abject fail. Bart strikes out a lot anyway and Vosler was nowhere near 2b. Kap outsmarted himself there.

  12. alleykat69 said, on April 19, 2022 at 12:35 pm

Joc April.. Blasts another bomb 💣

  13. Macdog said, on April 19, 2022 at 12:38 pm

Not a good start for Bart.

Grave Duggar base running screw up?

    • willedav said, on April 19, 2022 at 12:49 pm

Not in picture for our broadcast. Wondered given rundown, after Vosler stopped, what was happening at plate. Did he not take off and try and score?

      • djloo27 said, on April 19, 2022 at 1:07 pm

        That is correct…

  17. willedav said, on April 19, 2022 at 1:04 pm

6 hits already and lot of hard contact for Giants.
Megill only gave up 6 hits in 10 innings of his first 2 starts.

  18. alleykat69 said, on April 19, 2022 at 1:14 pm

7 different Giants have reached base in 3 innings!
Patience, work counts, and boom, they deliver

  19. willedav said, on April 19, 2022 at 1:21 pm

Bart has now struck out 15 times in 28 PAs. K rate was 50% coming in. MLB average on B/R says 23%.

    • xoot said, on April 19, 2022 at 2:40 pm

yet his OB% going into today’s game was .385 and his SLG .591. Big drop to Casali. Of course, Casali probably would’ve blocked those pitches today.

  20. djloo27 said, on April 19, 2022 at 1:51 pm

Hernandez absolutely called the Giants questionable defensive alignment in that situation.
He is an uncanny baseball genius…

    Big chance here for GD…

Sliders galore from Doval to survive treacherous 9th…

    • willedav said, on April 19, 2022 at 3:28 pm

pitched his way out of it. Looks like he and Bart are connecting.

    • xoot said, on April 19, 2022 at 3:35 pm

I noticed Bart and Doval laughing together after Doval’s save the other day. Lotta time together in Sacramento.

    We lose…

  25. Lurker John said, on April 19, 2022 at 3:50 pm

Not exactly a shocker. The Giants don’t get guys in from third with less than two outs. Other teams do. This is going to be a long series.

    • snarkk said, on April 19, 2022 at 4:07 pm

Not surprising when as a team you don’t make a lot of contact, and it’s not emphasized that you should focus ABs and swings on putting the ball in play…

  26. djloo27 said, on April 19, 2022 at 4:19 pm

        ABY at this point…

  27. alleykat69 said, on April 19, 2022 at 4:26 pm

Guess Cobb’s groin injury will sadly allow Beede an upcoming start.

  28. Macdog said, on April 19, 2022 at 5:31 pm

    Goddamn, they’re gonna get swept.

    • willedav said, on April 19, 2022 at 5:38 pm

Ugly inning. 2 outs/runner on 2b, and then Webb can’t get anyone out and it’s 3-0

  29. James said, on April 19, 2022 at 5:34 pm

Cobb injured and Webb throwing 90, depressing.

  30. djloo27 said, on April 19, 2022 at 5:39 pm

Kinda glad not to be freezing my ass off out there to see this…

    • James said, on April 19, 2022 at 6:06 pm

We were considering a trip out there, very glad we stayed put. Maybe seeing a no-hitter? Not even close to worth it, freezing your ass off while watching your team get swept.

  31. alleykat69 said, on April 19, 2022 at 5:44 pm

Webb usually has great control , not the case in this freezing weather and that’s the difference with his high pitch count..

  32. djloo27 said, on April 19, 2022 at 5:47 pm

    Why not?
    There’s 33 guys in the pen…

  33. James said, on April 19, 2022 at 5:52 pm

“The Giants don’t get guys in from third with less than two outs. Other teams do.”

The Giants batted 343, OPS of 930 with runners on 3rd, less than two outs in 2021. They were well above the league average.

  34. snarkk said, on April 19, 2022 at 6:16 pm

SF looks a little light on hitting so far this season, 10 games in. Team OPS at 9th and Avg. at 12th of 15 in NL.
They’re hitting HRs, but not much else. Looks like 240 HRs again might be necessary…

  35. Macdog said, on April 19, 2022 at 6:27 pm

I got to some night games at Candlestick, but the coldest baseball game I’ve ever been to was a late April night game at Shea.

  36. djloo27 said, on April 19, 2022 at 6:46 pm

    Mets pen can be had.
    Anyone’s can, really…

  40. djloo27 said, on April 19, 2022 at 7:16 pm

What’s Angel Pagan up to these days?

  41. Macdog said, on April 19, 2022 at 7:35 pm

    The bullpen looked good anyway.

  42. mrsprtdude said, on April 19, 2022 at 9:30 pm

I will repeat. Yaz is a guy who hit great for a month in 2020. Time to realize he isn’t good and go sign Conforto to a Rondon contract?

    • Bozo said, on April 20, 2022 at 7:41 am

Yaz did hit 25 bombs last year and is a decent OFer. But, if the Giants did want to get rid of him, Boston would make a great trade partner. The Sox need a right fielder badly (shit, they’re trying Arroyo out there) and getting an OFer named Yaz would be an instant hit in Boston. They do have a pretty decent farm system, so a solid prospect and Wade/Ramos in the OF for us, might not be a bad idea.

  43. alleykat69 said, on April 19, 2022 at 10:01 pm

The reason Conforto isn’t signed anywhere is he refuses to get vaccinated and teams are staying away cuz of that.Pretty stupid to lose millions cause you won’t get a shot…

  44. willedav said, on April 20, 2022 at 7:03 am

Giants scored 1 run in the last 16 innings they played yesterday.
Funny thing about 2 outs and RISP hitting-Mets guy Anthony diComo said they were 28th last year and hit .204 and yet burned Webb.

  45. James said, on April 20, 2022 at 8:35 am

Mets won first game getting 3 weak groundballs for hits in one inning against Cobb, and Giants lost 2-3 bombs to the wind last night in the second game (Yaz, Estrada, maybe Belt). Bad luck. But the Cobb injury and lack of life on Webb’s fastball were the twin downers. It was good to see Sherzer also off by a couple MPH, so maybe it was the conditions (didn’t seem to bother Marte), but Webb isn’t shit if he’s throwing 90-91 instead of 93-94.
